Light signaling and UV-B-mediated plant growth regulation^FA显示文摘Light plays an important role in plants' growth and development throughout their life cycle. Plants alter their morphological features in response to light cues of varying intensity and quality. Dedicated photoreceptors help plants to perceive light signals of different wave-lengths. Activated photoreceptors stimulate the down-stream signaling cascades that lead to extensive gene expression changes responsible for physiological and developmental responses. Proteins such as ELONGATED HYPOCOTYL5 (HY5) and CONSTITUTIVELY PHOTO-MORPHOGENIC 1 (COP1) act as important factors which modulate light-regulated gene expression, especially during seedling development. These factors function as central regulatory intermediates not only in red, far-red, and blue light pathways but also in the UV-B signaling pathway. UV-B radiation makes up only a minor fraction of sunlight, yet it imparts many positive and negative effects on plant growth. Studies on UV-B perception, signaling, and response in plants has considerably surged in recent times. Plants have developed different strat-egies to use UV-B as a developmental cue as well as to withstand high doses of UV-B radiation. Plants' re-sponses to UV-B are an integration of its cross-talks with both environmental factors and phytohormones. This review outlines the current developments in light sig-naling with a major focus on UV-B-mediated plant growth regulation. | Arpita Yadav Deeksha Singh Maneesh Lingwan Premachandran Yadukrishnan Shyam Kumar Masakapalli Sourav Datta | 2020 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2020,62,9: | 6

Clinical features and characteristics of retinopathy of prematurity in developing countries显示文摘Retinopathy of prematurity(ROP)is an emerging cause of childhood blindness in the developing countries. The low and middle-income countries are facing common challenges in the midst of the‘third epidemic’of ROP.Improvement in neonatal care facilities has increased survival of preterm babies.Lack of awareness and non-uniform standards of care in the ever-increasing number of neonatal intensive care units(NICUs)and special newborn care units(SNCUs)has resulted in this surge of ROP.Apart from low birth weight and the degree of prematurity, use of unblended supplemental oxygen, sepsis, anemia and blood transfusion are important risk factors associated with ROP in developing countries.Atypical forms of aggressive posterior ROP(APROP)are seen in heavier birth weight babies in the developing countries.Prevention of ROP by good quality neonatal care, timely diagnosis by mandatory ROP screening in NICUs and training manpower for laser treatment of ROP requires close collaboration between the neonatologists, ophthalmologists and the policy makers.Team approach and inter-disciplinary co-ordination are keys in a nation’s drive to fight this preventable cause of blindness. | Mangat R.Dogra Deeksha Katoch | 2018 | Annals of Eye Science2018,,1: | 0
Building and evaluating an artificial intelligence algorithm:A practical guide for practicing oncologists显示文摘The use of machine learning and deep learning has enabled many applications, previously thought of as being impossible.Among all medical fields, cancer care is arguably the most significantly impacted, with precision medicine now truly being a possibility. The effect of these technologies, loosely known as artificial intelligence,is particularly striking in fields involving images(such as radiology and pathology)and fields involving large amounts of data(such as genomics).Practicing oncologists are often confronted with new technologies claiming to predict response to therapy or predict the genomic make-up of patients.Understanding these new claims and technologies requires a deep understanding of the field. In this review,we provide an overview of the basis of deep learning. We describe various common tasks and their data requirements so that oncologists could be equipped to start such projects,as well as evaluate algorithms presented to them. | Anupama Ramachandran Deeksha Bhalla Krithika Rangarajan Raja Pramanik Subhashis Banerjee Chetan Arora | 2022 | Artificial Intelligence in Cancer2022,3,3: | 0
Ocimum sanctum extract preserves neuronal echotexture and controls seizure in lithium-pilocarpine induced status epilepticus rats显示文摘Objective:To investigate the effect of Ocimum sanctum hydroalcoholic extract(OSHE)on seizure control and neuronal injury in rats with lithium-pilocarpine-induced status epilepticus(SE).Methods:SE was induced by administering lithium chloride followed by pilocarpine 24 h later.OSHE was administered either alone or in combination with valproate(VPA)3 days before SE induction until 14 days post-SE induction.Seizure parameters were recorded on day 1(0-3 h),day 1-3 and day 4-14 post-SE.On day 14 post-SE,neurobehavioural tests(elevated plus maze and passive avoidance)were done followed by total antioxidant capacity,neuron-specific enolase, immunohistochemistry, and electron microscopic assessment in the hippocampus and cortex tissue. Results:OSHE+VPA provided more significant seizure protection(75%)than VPA(62.5%),OSHE(62.5%),or SE control(12.5%)(overall P=0.003).The latency to stage-3/4 seizures was increased and the number of stage-3/4 seizures was reduced in all treatment groups compared to the SE control group(P=0.002 and<0.001,respectively).The OSHE+VPA group also had better memory retention than other treatment groups(P<0.001)in the passive avoidance test.Total antioxidant capacity level was significantly higher and neuron-specific enolase was lower in the OSHE and OSHE+VPA groups compared to the SE control group.Electron microscopic study showed significant myelin sheath damage(67.5%,P<0.05)and axonal degeneration(51.8%,P<0.001)in the hippocampus of the SE control group, which were alleviated by OSHE or OSHE+VPA treatment. In immunohistochemical analysis, the OSHE,OSHE+VPA,and VPA groups had a significantly higher number of viable neurons and less neuronal loss compared to the SE control in the hippocampus(P<0.001).Conclusions:OSHE either alone or in combination with VPA shows better seizure control by preservation of neuronal echotexture and reducing oxidative stress in the hippocampus. | Soumya Sucharita Pattnaik Sudhir Chandra Sarangi Deeksha Sharma Surabhi Sinha Tapas C Nag Aruna Nambirajan Manjari Tripathi | 2023 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2023,13,11: | 0

RSPO2 as Wnt signaling enabler: Important roles in cancer development and therapeutic opportunities显示文摘R-spondins are secretory proteins localized in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi bodies and are processed through the secretory pathway.Among the R-spondin family,RSPO2 has emanated as a novel regulator of Wnt signaling, which has now been acknowledged in numerous in vitro and in vivo studies.Cancer is an abnormal growth of cells that proliferates and spreads uncontrollably due to the accumulation of genetic and epigenetic factors that constitutively activate Wnt signaling in various types of cancer.Colorectal cancer (CRC) begins when cells in the colon and rectum follow an indefinite pattern of division due to aberrant Wnt activation as one of the key hallmarks.Decades-long progress in research on R-spondins has demonstrated their oncogenic function in distinct cancer types, particularly CRC.As a critical regulator of the Wnt pathway,it modulates several phenotypes of cells, such as cell proliferation, invasion, migration, and cancer stem cell properties.Recently,RSPO mutations, gene rearrangements, fusions, copy number alterations, and altered gene expression have also been identified in a variety of cancers, including CRC.In this review,we addressed the recent updates regarding the recurrently altered R-spondins with special emphasis on the RSPO2 gene and its involvement in potentiating Wnt signaling in CRC.In addition to the compelling physiological and biological roles in cellular fate and regulation,we propose that RSPO2 would be valuable as a potential biomarker for prognostic, diagnostic, and therapeutic use in CRC. | Ankit Srivastava Deeksha Rikhari Sameer Srivastava | 2024 | Genes & Diseases2024,11,2: | 0
Effectiveness of total therapy in immune thrombocytopenia purpura:case series显示文摘Immune Thrombocytopenic purpura(ITP)is a haematologicimmune-mediated disorder in which the amount of platelet in the blood decreases abnormally.Single-agent therapies for ITP have not proven successful in achieving long-term remission, with relapse occurring in about half of the patients(p/t).Treatment options which include Rituximab with Dexamethasone as frontline therapy, have durable response rates ranging from 58%to 76%.In this study,we have used‘Total therapy’as treatment which includes low-dose Rituximab in combination with Thrombopoietin receptor agonist(TPO-RA)(Romiplostim)and high-dose Dexamethasone. In this case series study, each patient received romiplostim(250 mcg weekly s/c,4 doses)in combination with low-dose rituximab(100 mg weekly IV,4 doses)and high-dose dexamethasone(40 mgIV on days 1-4and days 15-18).This treatment combination demonstrated rapid response rates and a low rate of side effects, making it a good alternative for individuals with ITP. | Nisarg R Hajariwala Hinal S Panchal Nira Amin Deeksha A Singh | 2022 | Cancer Advances2022,5,7: | 0
