1Effect of atmospheric aerosol on surface ozone variation over the Pearl River Delta region显示文摘Our analysis of the surface aerosol and ultraviolet(UV) measurements in Pearl River Delta(PRD) region shows that the sur-face UV radiation is reduced by more than 50% due to high aerosol concentrations.This has important impacts on urban eco-system and photochemistry,especially on ozone photochemical production over the region.The quantitative effect of aerosols on surface ozone is evaluated by analyzing surface observations(including ozone,ultraviolet radiation,aerosol radiative pa-rameters) and by using radiative and chemical models.A case study shows that the aerosol concentrations and UV radiation are significantly correlated with ozone concentrations.The correlation coefficient between the aerosol optical depth(AOD) and the PM10 mass concentration is very high,with a maximum of 0.98,and the AOD and UV radiation/ozone is anti-correlated,with a correlation coefficient of -0.90.The analysis suggests that ozone productivity is significantly decreased due to the reduction of UV radiation.The noon-time ozone maximum is considerably depressed when AOD is 0.6,and is further decreased when AOD is up to 1.2 due to the reduction of ozone photochemical productivity.Because the occurring probability of aerosol optical depth for AOD550 nm≥0.6 and AOD340 nm≥1.0 is 47,and 55% respectively during the dry season(October,November,December,January),this heavy aerosol condition explains the low ozone maximum that often occurs in the dry season over the Guangzhou region.The analysis also suggests that the value of single scattering albedo(SSA) is very sensitive to the aerosol radiative effect when the radiative and chemical models are applied,implying that the value of SSA needs to be carefully studied when the models are used in calculating ozone production.DENG XueJiao ZHOU XiuJi WU Dui TIE XueXi TAN HaoBo LI Fei BI XueYan DENG Tao JIANG DeHai 2011Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,5:10

4Mechanism underlying treatment of diabetic kidney disease using Traditional Chinese Medicine based on theory of Yin and Yang balance显示文摘The pathogenic mechanism of diabetic kidney disease(DKD) is complex. The development of DKD cannot be fully explained by a single mechanism.Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) has been applied extensively for the treatment of DKD in China.However, studying the mechanism of DKD using theories and methods that are appropriate for TCM characteristics and searching for theoretical bases for TCM clinical application are topics that still need to be explored and researched. Activation of the transforming growth factor(TGF)-β1/Smad and PI3 K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathways functions as a self-protection mechanism against renal microinflammation in DKD. However, the persistent abnormal overactivation of reactions causes secondary cell dysfunction, cell apoptosis, increased extracellular matrix(ECM) secretion, and eventually renal fibrosis. During this process, the dysregulation of self-balance among a variety of signaling pathways and the loss of self-feedback regulatory mecha-nisms downstream of these signaling pathways are critical causes of the occurrence and development of DKD. 6Relationship between zonal position of the North Atlantic Oscillation and Euro-Atlantic blocking events and its possible effect on the weather over Europe显示文摘The North Atlantic Oscillation(NAO) exhibited a marked eastward shift in the mid-1970 s. Observations show that the extreme weather events in Europe have emerged frequently in the past decades. In this paper, based upon the daily NAO index, we have calculated the frequency of in-situ NAO events in winter during 1950-2011 by defining the Eastern-type NAO(ENAO) and Western-type NAO(WNAO) events according to its position at the east(west) of 10°W. Then, the composites of the blocking frequency, temperature and precipitation anomalies for different types of NAO events are performed. Results show that the frequency of Euro-Atlantic blocking events is distributed along the northwest-southeast(southwest-northeast) direction for the negative(positive) phase. Two blocking action centers in Greenland and European continent are observed during the negative phase while one blocking action center over south Europe is seen for the positive phase. The action center of blocking events tends to shift eastward as the NAO is shifted toward the European continent. Moreover, the eastern-type negative phase(ENAO) events are followed by a sharp decline of surface air temperature over Europe(especially in central, east, and south Europe), which have a wider and stronger impact on the weather over European continent than the western-type negative phase(WNAO) events do. A double- branched structure of positive precipitation anomalies is seen for the negative phase event, besides strong positive precipitation anomalies over south Europe for ENAO event. The eastern-type and western-type positive phase(ENAO+ and WNAO+) can lead to warming over Europe. 7Advances in crop phenotyping and multi-environment trials显示文摘Efficient evaluation of crop phenotypes is a prerequisite for breeding, cultivar adoption, genomics and phenomics study. Plant genotyping is developing rapidly through the use of high-throughput sequencing techniques,while plant phenotyping has lagged far behind and it has become the rate-limiting factor in genetics, large-scale breeding and development of new cultivars. In this paper,we consider crop phenotyping technology under three categories. The first is high-throughput phenotyping techniques in controlled environments such as greenhouses or specifically designed platforms. The second is a phenotypic strengthening test in semi-controlled environments, especially for traits that are difficult to be tested in multi-environment trials(MET), such as lodging, drought and disease resistance. The third is MET in uncontrolled environments, in which crop plants are managed according to farmer's cultural practices. 9Microwave absorbing properties and magnetic properties of different carbon nanotubes显示文摘The microwave absorbing properties and magnetic properties of as-grown Fe-filled carbon nanotubes (CNTs), annealed Fe-filled CNTs, and multi-walled CNTs were studied. Vibrating sample magnetometer results showed that the annealed Fe-filled CNTs have the weakest coercivity and strongest saturation magnetization among the three types CNTs, due to the presence of more ferromagnetic α-Fe nanowires. After annealing, the values increased to 291.0 Oe and 28.0 emu/g and the samples showed excellent microwave absorbing properties. 10Twin structure of the lath martensite in low carbon steel显示文摘It has been well accepted that the martensites in quenched carbon steels exhibit two typical morphologies which are closely dependent on the carbon content, i.e. lath martensite in low carbon steels and lenticular martensite in high carbon steels. Based on conventional belief, the lath martensites in low carbon steels are with high density dislocations as the substructure, in contrast to twin substructure in lenticular high carbon martensite. In the present work, an intensive transmission electron microscopy investigation was made to characterize the microstructures of the lath martensite in a low carbon steel of 0.2 wt%C. It was found that lots of lath martensites consist of twin as their substructure, rather than high density dislocations. In addition, nanoscale precipitates cohering with ferrite matrix were found at the twin interfaces. 11Effects of structure and sur-face properties on carbon nanotubes' hydrogen storage characteristics显示文摘Hydrogen adsorption experiments were carried out in special stainless steel vessels at room temperature (298K) and under 10 MPa using self-synthesized multi-walled carbon nanotubes. In the experiments, carbon nanotubessynthesized by the seeded catalyst method were pretreatedby being soaked in chemical reagents or annealed at hightemperature before they were used to adsorb hydrogen, but their capacity for hydrogen storage was still poor. Carbonnanotubes synthesized by the floating catalyst method were found to be able to adsorb more hydrogen. 12Preparation of alumina supported on carbon nano-tubes and its application in fluoride adsorption from an aqueous solution显示文摘A novel material, alumina supported on carbon nanotubes (Al2O3/CNT), was prepared from carbon nano-tubes and A1(NO3)3. X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra demonstrate that alumina is amorphous, and scanning electron microscope (SEM) images show that CNT and alumina are homogeneously mixed. Furthermore, the fluoride adsorption behavior on the surface of Al2O3/CNT has been investigated and compared with other adsorbents. The results indicate that Al2O3/CNT has a high adsorption capacity, with a saturation adsorption capacity of 39.4 mg/g. It is also found that the adsorption capacity of Al2O3/CNT is 3.0-4.5 times that of γ-Al2O3 while almost equal to that of IRA-410 polymeric resin at 25°C . 13Calibration and brightness temperature algorithm of CE-1 Lunar Microwave Sounder (CELMS)显示文摘CE-1 Lunar Microwave Sounder (CELMS) is the first passive microwave radiometer in the world to sound the surface of the Moon in the lunar orbit at altitude of 200 km. The scientific objective of CELMS is to obtain global brightness temperature (TB) of the Moon, to retrieve information on lunar regolith, and to evaluate the distribution of helium-3 on the Moon implanted by solar wind. Before launch of CELMS, a series of experiments were carried out in laboratories to test the performances of the systems, and to calibrate the responses between the input of TB and the output of voltage from the receivers. However, the thermal condition exposed to CELMS is more complicated in lunar orbit than on the Earth, which makes the temperatures of different parts of CELMS wave vary greatly, and the cosmic background is not very clean due to the pointing of cold space antenna to the direction of the satellite running, which brings uncertainties into data-processing of CELMS when the temperature of cold space is used as a calibrator. Furthermore, the lack of knowledge on the lunar ingredients and compositions, distributions of physical temperatures, and properties on lunar microwave radiation leads to difficulties in validating the measurements and retrievals of CELMS. By analyzing the results of ground experiments and the measurements of CELMS in-orbit, along with our knowledge of the properties of lunar surface, here we give algorithms on calibration and antenna pattern correction (APC) of CELMS. We also describe in detail the principle of microwave transfer among the elements of CELMS, and discuss the method on testing calibration parameters of the system. In addition, the theory and model on correction antenna pattern of CELMS are developed by comparing antenna temperatures by CELMS with those simulated by microwave radiative transfer models. The global distribution of TB is given and the features of TB are analyzed. 14The Antitumor Components from Marine-derived Bacterium Streptoverticillium luteoverticillatum 11014 Ⅱ显示文摘Eight known compounds were isolated from a marine-derived bacterium Streptoverticillium luteoverticillatum 11014 using bioassay-guided fractionations. Their structures were identified by spectral analysis as bis (4-hydroxybenzyl) ether (1), p-hydroxyphenylethyl alcohol (2), N-(4-hydroxyphenethyl) acetamide (3), indole-3 carboxylic acid methyl ester (4), dibenzo[b,e] [1,4]dioxine (5), thymine (6), cytosine deoxyribonucleoside (7) and 2, 3-butanediol (8). These compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activities against K562 cell line with the SRB method for the first time. Compounds 2 and 4 showed cytotoxcities with IC50 values of 101.1 and 165.3 μmol L-1, respectively. 15A study on accumulation and distribution of gas in southern Songliao Basin显示文摘A number of isolated fault sags in Late Jurassic--Early Cretaceous were developed in the early stage of southern Songliao Basin,and unified to a depression basin in the late stage.Therefore,multiple isolated lower petroliferous systems were formed with fault sags as source rocks.The source rocks of fault sags in Late Jurassic--Early Cretaceous were mainly described with gas generation as favorable source rocks,leading to the southern Songliao Basin rich in natural gas resources combined with organic gas resources in Nenjiang Formation.A number of tectonic movements in southern Songliao Basin led to the formation of abundant structural traps and complex fault systems,and controlled the distribution strata and positions of sources rocks in Late Jurassic--Early Cretaceous fault sags.The oil-gas reservoirs can be divided into two types,i.e.,primary and secondary ones.The primary oil-gas reservoirs were distributed in the fault sag strata and the bottom of overlying depression strata(lower Quan-1 Member).The oil-gas reservoir accumulation depended on the trap development situation and the distance from source rocks.The preservation conditions of oil-gas reservoirs depended on the degree of reconstruction in the late tectonism.The secondary oil-gas reservoirs were distribution in the Quantou Formation of depression strata,where oil and gas reservoir accumulation depended on three conditions,i.e.,trap development situation,deep gas sources and the fault to connect the shallow traps and deep gas sources.The southern Songliao Basin is rich in lower coal type gas,upper oil-gas and biogas resources,which are important resources in the future.WANG Dehai KANG Haiping ZHAO Yanwei ZHAO Dalin LV Shicong WU Jianan CHEN Chunguang 2013Global Geology2013,16,1:4
16Comparison of three remotely sensed drought indices for assessing the impact of drought on winter wheat yield显示文摘Agricultural drought threatens food security.Numerous remote-sensing drought indices have been developed,but their different principles,assumptions and physical quantities make it necessary to compare their suitability for drought monitoring over large areas.Here,we analyzed the performance of three typical remote sensing-based drought indices for monitoring agricultural drought in two major agricultural production regions in Shaanxi and Henan provinces,northern China(predominantly rain-fed and irrigated agriculture,respectively):vegetation health index(VHI),temperature vegetation dryness index(TVDI)and drought severity index(DSI).We compared the agreement between these indices and the standardized precipitation index(SPI),soil moisture,winter wheat yield and National Meteorological Drought Monitoring(NMDM)maps.On average,DSI outperformed the other indices,with stronger correlations with SPI and soil moisture.DSI also corresponded better with soil moisture and NMDM maps.The jointing and grain-filling stages of winter wheat are more sensitive to water stress,indicating that winter wheat required more water during these stages.Moreover,the correlations between the drought indices and SPI,soil moisture,and winter wheat yield were generally stronger in Shaanxi province than in Henan province,suggesting that remote-sensing drought indices provide more accurate predictions of the impacts of drought in predominantly rain-fed agricultural areas.Jianxi Huang Wen Zhuo Ying Li Ran Huang Fernando Sedano Wei Su Jinwei Dong Liyan Tian Yanbo Huang Dehai Zhu Xiaodong Zhang 2020International Journal of Digital Earth2020,13,4:4
17The Nature and Predictability of the East Asian Extreme Cold Events of 2020/21显示文摘Three extreme cold events invaded China during the early winter period between December 2020 to mid-January 2021 and caused drastic temperature drops,setting new low-temperature records at many stations during 6−8 January 2021.These cold events occurred under background conditions of low Arctic sea ice extent and a La Niña event.This is somewhat expected since the coupled effect of large Arctic sea ice loss in autumn and sea surface temperature cooling in the tropical Pacific usually favors cold event occurrences in Eurasia.Further diagnosis reveals that the first cold event is related to the southward movement of the polar vortex and the second one is related to a continent-wide ridge,while both the southward polar vortex and the Asian blocking are crucial for the third event.Here,we evaluate the forecast skill for these three events utilizing the operational forecasts from the ECMWF model.We find that the third event had the highest predictability since it achieves the best skill in forecasting the East Asian cooling among the three events.Therefore,the predictability of these cold events,as well as their relationships with the atmospheric initial conditions,Arctic sea ice,and La Niña deserve further investigation.Guokun DAI Chunxiang LI Zhe HAN Dehai LUO Yao YAO 2022Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2022,39,4:4
18Review on ω Phase in Body-Centered Cubic Metals and Alloys显示文摘An to phase with a primitive hexagonal crystal structure has been found to be a common metastable phase in body-centered cubic(bcc) metals and alloys.In general,to phase precipitates out as a high density of nanoscale particles and can obviously strengthen the alloys;however,coarsening of the co particles significantly reduces the alloy ductility.The co phase has coherent interfacial structure with its bcc matrix phase,and its lattice parameters are a_ω =2^(1/2)×a_(bcc) and C_ω= 3^(1/2)/2 ×a_(bcc).The common {112}(11 l)-type twinning in bcc metals and alloys can be treated as the product of theω→ bcc phase transition,also known as the ω-lattice mechanism.The ω phase's behavior in metastable β-type Ti alloys will be briefly reviewed first since the ω phase was first found in the alloy system,and then the existence of the ω phase in carbon steels will be discussed.Carbon plays a crucial role in promoting the ω formation in steel,and the ω phase can form a solid solution with various carbon contents.Hence,the martensitic substructure can be treated as an α-Fe matrix embedded with a high density of nanoscale ω-Fe particles enriched with carbon.The recognition of the ω phase in steel is expected to advance the understanding of the relationship between the microstructure and mechanical properties in bcc steels,as well as the behavior of martensitic transformations,twinning formation,and martensitic substructure.Dehai Ping 2014Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2014,27,1:4
19Seasonal Cumulative Effect of Ural Blocking Episodes on the Frequent Cold events in China during the Early Winter of 2020/21显示文摘Starting in mid-November,China was hit by several cold events during the early winter of 2020/21.The lowest temperature observed at Beijing station on 7 January reached−19.6°C.In this paper,we show that the outbreak of the record-breaking extreme cold event can be attributed to a huge merging Ural blocking(UB)ridge over the Eurasian region.The sea-ice cover in the Kara and East Siberia Seas(KESS)in autumn was at its lowest value since 1979,which could have served as a precursor signal.Further analysis shows that several successive UB episodes occurred from 1 September 2020 to 10 January 2021.The persistent UB that occurred in late September/early October 2020 may have made an important contribution to the October historical minimum of sea ice in the KESS region.Our results also show that,after each UB episode in winter,significant upward propagation of wave activity occurred around 60°E,which resulted in weakening the stratospheric vortex.Meanwhile,each UB episode also caused a significant reduction in sea-ice extent in KESS and a significant weakening of the westerly jet in mid-high-latitude Eurasia.Results suggest that the Arctic vortex,which is supposed to enhance seasonally,became weaker and more unstable than the climatic mean under the seasonal cumulative effects of UB episodes,KESS warming,and long-lasting negative-phase North Atlantic Oscillation(NAO-).Those seasonal cumulative effects,combined with the impact of La Niña winter,led to the frequent occurrence of extreme cold events.Yao YAO Wenqi ZHANG Dehai LUO Linhao ZHONG Lin PEI 2022Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2022,39,4:4
