Application of ferrate(VI) in the treatment of industrial wastes containing metal-complexed cyanides : A green treatment显示文摘Ferrate(VI) was employed for the oxidation of cyanide (CN) and simultaneous removal of copper or nickel in the mixed/complexed systems of CN-Cu, CN-Ni, or CN-Cu-Ni. The degradation of CN (1.00 mmol/L) and removal of Cu (0.095 mmol/L) were investigated as a function of Fe(VI) doses from 0.3–2.00 mmol/L at pH 10.0. It was found that Fe(VI) could readily oxidize CN and the reduction of Fe(VI) into Fe(III) might serve effciently for the removal of free copper ions. The increase in Fe(VI) dose apparently favoured the CN oxidation as well as Cu removal. Moreover, the pH dependence study (pH 10.0–13.0) revealed that the oxidation of CN was almost unaffected in the studied pH range (10.0–13.0), however, the maximum removal effciency of Cu was obtained at pH 13.0. Similarly, treatment was carried out for CN-Ni system having the initial Ni concentration of 0.170 mmol/L and CN concentration of 1.00 mmol with Fe(VI) dose 2.00 mmol at various pH values (10.0–12.0). Results showed a partial oxidation of CN and partial removal of Ni. It can be observed that Fe(VI) can partially degrade the CN-Ni complex in this pH range. Further, Fe(VI) was applied for the treatment of simulated industrial waste/effuent waters treatment containing CN, Cu, and Ni.SEUNG-MOK Lee DIWAKAR Tiwari 2009Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,10:17
A comparative study on the antioxidant activity of methanolic leaf extracts of Ficus religiosa L,Chromolaena odorata(L.) King & Rabinson,Cynodon dactylon(L.) Pers.and Tridax procumbens L.显示文摘Objective:To compare the antioxidative effects of the methanolic leaf extracts of Ficus religiosa (F.religiosa),Chromolaena odorata(C.odorata),Cynodon dactylon(C.dactylon) and Trida,x procumbens(T.procumbens) as well as the contents of antioxidants in the extracts. Methods: Total phenol and total flavanoid contents were measured according to the standard procedures. The total antioxidant capacity was determined using the phosphomolybdenum method.Reducing power was determined by the potassium ferrieyanide reducing method. The free radical scavenging activity was measured by 2,2’-Diphenyl-l-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) assay. Results: Quantitative phytochemical analysis of total phenol content showed that C.odorata had the highest content of phenolic compounds significantly followed by F.religiosa,T.procumbens and C.dactylon.As for the total flavanoids content,F.religiosa had the highest content, followed by C.odorata,T.procumbens and C.daxtylon.Study on the total antioxidant capacity revealed that F.religiosa,C.dactylon and C.odorata showed higher total antioxidant capacity.T.procumbens showed the lowest capacity.Meanwhile,T.procumbens and C.odorata have the highest reducing power activity followed by F.religiosa and C.dactylon.The results of DPPH radical scavenging activity indicated that T.procumbens induced the largest elevation as the concentration of its extract increased, followed by C.odorata and F.religiosa and C.dactylon.Conclusions:The present study demonstrates the antioxidative capacity of all the four plant species.Of all the plants,C.odorata,a perennial weed plant showed potentially a high antioxidant activity, with higher phenolic and flavonoids contents. The data suggest that C.odorata can be best utilized in developing bioantioxidants.Melinda Krishanti P Xavier Rathinam Marimuthu Kasi Diwakar Ayyalu Ramanathan Surash Kathiresan Sadasivam Sreeramanan Subramaniam 2010Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,5:6
Effect of ionic strength on adsorption of As(Ⅲ) and As(V) on variable charge soils显示文摘The study was to investigate the adsorption behavior of arsenite (As(III)) and arsenate (As(V)) on two variable charge soils, i.e., Haplic Acrisol and Rhodic Ferralsol at dierent ionic strengths and pH with batch methods. Results indicated that the amount of As(III) adsorbed by these two soils increased with increasing solution pH, whereas it decreased with increasing ionic strength under the acidic condition. This suggested that As(III) was mainly adsorbed on soil positive charge sites through electrostatic attraction under the acidic condition. Moreover, intersects of As(V) adsorption-pH curves at dierent ionic strengths (a characteristic pH) are obtained for both soils. It was noted that above this pH, the adsorption of As(V) was increased with increasing ionic strength, whereas below it the reverse trend was true. Precisely the intersect pH was 3.6 for Haplic Acrisol and 4.5 for Rhodic Ferralsol, which was near the values of PZSE (soil point of zero salt eect) of these soils. The eects of ionic strength and pH on arsenate adsorption by these soils were interpreted by the adsorption model. The results of zeta potential suggested that the potential in adsorption plane becomes less negative with increasing ionic strength above soil PZSE and decreases with increasing ionic strength below soil PZSE. These results further supported the hypothesis of the adsorption model that the potential in the adsorption plane changes with ionic strength with an opposite trend to surface charge of the soils. Therefore, the change of the potential in the adsorption plane was mainly responsible for the change of arsenate adsorption induced by ionic strength on variable charge soils.XU Renkou WANG Yong TIWARI Diwakar WANG Houyan 2009Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,7:5
Attenuation of MET-mediated migration and invasion in hepatocellular carcinoma cells by SOCS1显示文摘AIM To investigate the role of suppressor of cytokine signaling 1(SOCS1)in regulating MET-mediated invasive potential of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)cells.METHODSStable derivatives of mouse(Hepa1-6)and human(hep3B,Hep G2)HCC cell lines expressing SOCS1or control vector were evaluated for their ability to migrate towards hepatocyte growth factor(HGF)in the transwell migration assay, invade extracellular matrix in response to HGF stimulation in a 3-D invasion assay by confocal microscopy, and to undergo anchorageindependent proliferation in semisolid agar.Following intravenous and intrasplenic inoculation into NOD.scid.gamma mice, the ability of Hepa cells to form othotopic tumors was evaluated.Following HGF stimulation of Hepa and Hep3B cells, expression of proteins implicated in epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition was evaluated by western blot and qR T-PCR.RESULTS SOCS1 expression in mouse and human HCC cells inhibited HGF-induced migration through matrigel. In the 3-D invasion assay,HGF stimulation induced invasion of HCC cells across type-Ⅰcollagen matrix, and SOCS1expression significantly reduced the depth of invasion.SOCS1 expression also reduced the number and size of colonies formed by anchorage-independent growth in semisolid agar.Following intravenous inoculation, control Hepa cell formed large tumor nodules that obliterated the liver whereas the SOCS1-expressing Hepa cells formed significantly smaller nodules.Tumors formed by SOCS1-expressing cells showed reduced phosphorylation of STAT3 and ERK that was accompanied by reduced levels of MET protein expression.HGF stimulated Hepa cells expressing SOCS1 showed increased expression of E-cadherin and decreased expression of EGR1,SNAI1and ZEB1.Comparable results were obtained with Hep3B cells.SOCS1 expressing HCC cells also showed reduced levels of EGR1 and SNAI1 transcripts.CONCLUSION Our findings indicate that loss of SOCS1-dependent control over epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition may contribute to MET-mediated migration, invasion and metastatic growth of HCC.Yirui Gui Md Gulam Musawwir Khan Diwakar Bobbala Claire Dubois Sheela Ramanathan Caroline Saucier Subburaj Ilangumaran 2017World Journal of Gastroenterology2017,23,36:3

Trans-presentation of interleukin-15 by interleukin-15 receptor alpha is dispensable for the pathogenesis of autoimmune type 1 diabetes显示文摘Interleukin-15(IL-15)is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that is required for the survival and activation of memory CD8^(+)T cells, natural killer(NK)cells, innate lymphoid cells, macrophages and dendritic cells.IL-15 is implicated in the pathogenesis of various autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis and autoimmune type 1 diabetes(T1D).IL-15 receptor(IL-15R)consists of a specificαchain, theβchain that is shared with IL-2R and the commonγchain.IL-15 is unique in the manner in which it binds and signals through its receptor subunits.IL-15 that is complexed with IL-15Rαbinds to theβγreceptor complex present on the responding cell to mediate its biological effects through a process referred to as trans-presentation.The trans-presented IL-15 is essential to mediate the biological effects on T lymphocytes and NK cells. Here we show that IL-15,but not IL-15Rα,is required for the development of spontaneous and virus-induced T1D,viral clearance and for antigen cross-presentation to CD8^(+)T lymphocytes. Our findings provide insight into the complexities of IL-15 signalling in the initiation and maintenance of CD8^(+)T cell-mediated immune responses.Diwakar Bobbala Marian Mayhue Alfredo Menendez Subburaj Ilangumaran Sheela Ramanathan 2017Cellular & Molecular Immunology2017,14,7:2
