| 1 | Restoring the plant productivity of heavy metal-contaminated soil using phosphate sludge,marble waste,and beneficial microorganisms显示文摘Assisted natural remediation(ANR)has been highlighted as a promising,less expensive,and environmentally friendly solution to remediate soil contaminated with heavy metals.We tested the effects of three amendments(10%compost,C;5 or 15%phosphate sludge,PS5 and PS15;and 5 or 15%marble waste,MW5 and MW15)in combination with microorganism inoculation(rhizobacteria consortium alone,mycorrhizae alone,and the two incombination)on alfalfa in contaminated soil.Plant concentrations of Zn,Cu,and Pb were measured,along with proline and malondialdehyde production.The microbiological and physicochemical properties of the mining soil were evaluated.Application of the amendments allowed germination and promoted growth.Inoculation with the rhizobacteria consortium and/or mycorrhizae stimulated plant growth.PS and MW stimulated the production of proline.Inoculation of alfalfa with the rhizobacteria-mycorrhizae mixture and the application of MW allowed the safe cultivation of the legume,as shown by the low concentrations of metals in plant shoots.Zn and Pb concentrations were below the limits recommended for animal grazing and accumulated essentially in roots.Soil analyses showed the positive effect of the amendments on the soil physicochemical properties.All treatments increased soil p H(around 7),total organic carbon,and assimilable phosphorus content.Notably,an important decrease in soluble heavy metals concentrations was observed.Overall,our findings revealed that the applied treatments reduced the risk of metal-polluted soils limiting plant growth.The ANR has great potential for success in the restoration of polymetallic and acidic mining soils using the interaction between alfalfa,microorganisms,and organomineral amendments. | Anas Raklami Abdel-ilah Tahiri Noura Bechtaoui ElGharmali Abdelhay Eloisa Pajuelo Marouane Baslam Abdelilah Meddich Khalid Oufdou | 2021 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,1: | 8 |
| 2 | Adipose-derived stem cells:Pathophysiologic implications vs therapeutic potential in systemic sclerosis显示文摘Adipose-derived stem cells(ADSCs)residing in the stromal vascular fraction(SVF)of white adipose tissue are recently emerging as an alternative tool for stem cell-based therapy in systemic sclerosis(SSc),a complex connective tissue disorder affecting the skin and internal organs with fibrotic and vascular lesions.Several preclinical and clinical studies have reported promising therapeutic effects of fat grafting and autologous SVF/ADSC-based local treatment for facial and hand cutaneous manifestations of SSc patients.However,currently available data indicate that ADSCs may represent a double-edged sword in SSc,as they may exhibit a pro-fibrotic and anti-adipogenic phenotype,possibly behaving as an additional pathogenic source of pro-fibrotic myofibroblasts through the adipocyte-to-myofibroblast transition process.Thus,in the perspective of a larger employ of SSc-ADSCs for further therapeutic applications,it is important to definitely unravel whether these cells present a comparable phenotype and similar immunosuppressive,anti-inflammatory,anti-fibrotic and pro-angiogenic properties in respect to healthy ADSCs.In light of the dual role that ADSCs seem to play in SSc,this review will provide a summary of the most recent insights into the preclinical and clinical studies employing SVF and ADSCs for the treatment of the disease and,at the same time,will focus on the main findings highlighting the possible involvement of these stem cells in SSc-related fibrosis pathogenesis. | Irene Rosa Eloisa Romano Bianca Saveria Fioretto Marco Matucci-Cerinic Mirko Manetti | 2021 | World Journal of Stem Cells2021,13,1: | 3 |

| 4 | Role of the diet as a link between oxidative stress and liver diseases显示文摘Oxidative stress is caused by an imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen(free radicals) and the body's ability(antioxidant capacity) to readily detoxify the reactive intermediates or easily repair the resulting damage. An adequate diet, characterized by daily intake of foods associated with improvementsin the total antioxidant capacity of individuals and reduced incidence of diseases related to oxidation, can modulate the degree of oxidative stress. In fact, dietderived micronutrients may be direct antioxidants, or are components of antioxidant enzymes, leading to improvement of some indicators of hepatic function. However, although their increased dietary intake might be beneficial, literature data are still controversial. This review summarizes what is known about the effects of diet nutrients on oxidative stress, inflammation and liver function.
