1Persea americana attenuates inflammatory response associated with hyperlipidemia in ovariectomized and irradiated rats by regulating MMP-3/TIMP-1 levels显示文摘Objective:To explore the effect of Persea americana supplementation on inflammation,oxidative stress,and lipid profiles in ovariectomized rats fed with a high-fat diet and exposed to radiation.Methods:The control group was sham operated,while groups 2-5 were ovariectomized and fed a high-fat diet.Groups 4 and 5 were exposed toγ-radiation(1 Gy/week for 5 weeks)after ovariectomy.Groups 3 and 5 were treated with 1 mL/250 g/day of Persea americana for one month.Serum levels of estrogen,alanine aminotransferase,aspartate aminotransferase,cholesterol,triglycerides and lipoproteins were measured.Additionally,hepatic oxidative stress,inflammatory and fibrogenic markers were evaluated.Results:Persea americana treatment reduced the oxidative stress markers as well as the levels of triglyceride,total cholesterol,and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol,which in turn lowered hepatic fat accumulation.Moreover,it suppressed hepatic inflammatory mediators(interleukin-6,tumor necrosis factor-α,and C-reactive protein)and downregulated pro-fibrogenic markers(transforming growth factor-βand tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1).Conclusions:Persea americana provides protection against ovariectomy,and gamma radiation-mediated hepatic inflammation not only through its antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,lipid-lowering effect but also by modulating the fibrogenic markers.Dina F.Elmaghraby Fatma A.M.Salem Esraa S.A.Ahmed 2022Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2022,12,9:1

7Bee honey and exercise for improving physical performance,reducing fatigue,and promoting an active lifestyle during COVID-19显示文摘An active lifestyle has enormous health benefits.However,physical activity has globally decreased since the beginning of the current coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)outbreak because of social distancing measures.Older adults and people with age-related diseases(e.g.,diabetes,obesity,cancer,cardiovascular disorders,etc.)are widely affected by COVID-19 and its grave adverse effects because of their baseline poor immune function.Although they are in intense need for the therapeutic benefits of exercise,they may express a low capacity for exercising due to skeletal muscle dysfunction and low motivation.Honey is a natural energy-rich,low glycemic index food with a variety of biological activities.It is reported to correct muscle pathology in diseased conditions.Because skeletal muscle is the key structure involved in the exercise,we explored the literature for the exercise-promoting potential of natural honey.Bee honey improves physical performance at moderate levels of activity,and it reduces the production of inflammatory cytokines and biomarkers of fatigue following strenuous exercise among athletes.Supplementing ischemic heart disease patients with honey combined with floral pollen improved patients’tolerance for physical loads and corrected metabolic dysfunctions.Therefore,the therapeutic use of honey may have implications for increasing the capacity for exercise in aged and diseased individuals.Soundly designed studies are needed to evaluate such possibilities.Amira Mohammed Ali Esraa Mohammed Ali Alaaeldin Abou Mousa Amin Omar Hendawy 2021Sports Medicine and Health Science2021,3,3:0

9Tissue Doppler,speckling tracking and four-dimensional echocardiographic assessment of right ventricular function in children with dilated cardiomyopathy显示文摘BACKGROUND Right ventricular(RV)function is frequently overlooked during dilated cardiomyopathy(DCM)evaluation.AIM To evaluate RV function in children with idiopathic DCM using relatively recent echocardiographic modalities.METHODS We prospectively studied the cardiac function in 50 children with idiopathic DCM and 50 healthy children as a control group,using four-dimensional echocardiography(4-DE),Tissue Doppler Imaging(TDI),and two-dimensional-speckles tracking echocardiography(2-D-STE).RV EF was measured by 4-DE.RESULTS The auto left(LV)ejection fractions(EF)measured by 2-D-STE were significantly lower in the patients'group than in the control.The sphericity index was also significantly lower in children with DCM than in the control.RV EF measured by 4-DE was significantly lower in the patient's group than the control.RV S wave,e´/a'ratio,myocardial performance index(MPI),and tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion(TAPSE)were significantly impaired in children with DCM than in control.Both LV and RV global longitudinal strains(GLS)were significantly reduced in children with DCM than in control.RVGLS was significantly associated with the duration since diagnosis,tricuspid annulus S wave,RV MPI,and TAPSE,but not with the age of the patients,RV EF,or e´/a'ratio.CONCLUSION There was impairment of the RV LGS and other systolic and diastolic parameters in children with DCM.STE and TDI can help to detect the early decline of RV function.Mohammed Al-Biltagi Osama Elrazaky Wegdan Mawlana Esraa Srour Ahmed Hamdy Shabana 2022World Journal of Clinical Pediatrics2022,11,1:0
10Preparation of solar-enhanced AlZnO@carbon nano-substrates for remediation of textile wastewaters显示文摘Photoactive aluminum doped ZnO(AlZnO)was synthesized by sol-gel method.After that,AlZnO photocatalyst was deposited on five carbon-based materials(CBMs)using ultrasonic route followed by solid-state mixing using ball mill.The CBMs used were poly aniline(PANI),carbon nitride(CN),carbon nanotubes(CNT),graphene(G),and carbon nanofibers(CNF).The crystal phases,elemental compositions,morphological,and optical properties of the AlZnO@CBMs composites were investigated.Experimental results revealed that two of AlZnO@CBMs composites exhibited superior bleaching efficiency(100%removal)and photocatalytic stability(three cycles)for 50μmol/L Methylene Blue(MB)contaminated water after 60 min irradiation in visible light at pH 6.5,0.7%H2O2,and 5 g/L inorganic salts.Under optimum conditions,AlZnO@CBMs nanocomposites were employed for the treatment of mixed dyestuffs composed of MB,Methyl Orange(MO),Astrazone Blue FRR(BB 69),and Rhodamine B(RhB)dyes under dark,ultraviolet,visible,and direct sunlight.For mixed dyestuffs,the AlZnO@G achieved the highest dye sorption capacity(60.91μmol dye stuffs/g)with kinetic rate 8.22×10^-3 min^-1 in 90 min via multi-layer physisorption(Freundlich isotherm)on graphene sheet.In additions,AlZnO@CN offered the highest photo-kinetic rate(Kphoto)of^54.1×10^-3 min^-1(93.8%after 60 min)under direct sunlight.Furthermore,the selective radical trapping experiment confirmed that the holes and oxidative superoxide radicals are crucial on dyes photodegradation pathway.Owing to their superior performance,AlZnO@G and AlZnO@CN nanocomposites can offer an effective in-situ solar-assisted adsorption/photocatalytic remediation of textile wastewater effluents.Esraa M.El-Fawal Sherif A.Younis Yasser M.Moustafa Philippe Serp 2020Journal of Environmental Sciences2020,32,6:0
11Hybrid Chaotic Salp Swarm with Crossover Algorithm for Underground Wireless Sensor Networks显示文摘Resource management in Underground Wireless Sensor Networks(UWSNs)is one of the pillars to extend the network lifetime.An intriguing design goal for such networks is to achieve balanced energy and spectral resource utilization.This paper focuses on optimizing the resource efficiency in UWSNs where underground relay nodes amplify and forward sensed data,received from the buried source nodes through a lossy soil medium,to the aboveground base station.A new algorithm called the Hybrid Chaotic Salp Swarm and Crossover(HCSSC)algorithm is proposed to obtain the optimal source and relay transmission powers to maximize the network resource efficiency.The proposed algorithm improves the standard Salp Swarm Algorithm(SSA)by considering a chaotic map to initialize the population along with performing the crossover technique in the position updates of salps.Through experimental results,the HCSSC algorithm proves its outstanding superiority to the standard SSA for resource efficiency optimization.Hence,the network’s lifetime is prolonged.Indeed,the proposed algorithm achieves an improvement performance of 23.6%and 20.4%for the resource efficiency and average remaining relay battery per transmission,respectively.Furthermore,simulation results demonstrate that the HCSSC algorithm proves its efficacy in the case of both equal and different node battery capacities.Mariem Ayedi Walaa H.ElAshmawi Esraa Eldesouky 2022Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,8:0
12An Observational Study on the Management of COVID-19 Patients in Limited-Resource Hospitals显示文摘Background:The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of limited-resource hospitals in managing mild and moderate hospitalized cases of COVID-19 with comorbidities and in preventing their progression to severe illness.Methods:Data were obtained from 88 moderate COVID-19 patients with comorbidities who were admitted to limitedresource hospitals.The data were classified into several parts:comorbidities,chronic medication before hospital admission,symptoms of COVID-19 before and during hospitalization,clinical features,laboratory findings on hospital admission,complications during hospitalization,as well as worst laboratory values during hospitalization,hospital stay,and outcomes.The clinical features,laboratory results,type of oxygen therapy used,and the final treatment outcome were all evaluated to assess for any potential relationship.Results:All patients were alive upon discharge.Before admission,the majority of patients(60.2%)received COVID-19 treatment,and the average hospital stay was 12 days.The most common symptoms were fever(88.7%),cough(95.5%),shortness of breath(90.9%),myalgia(84.1%),confusion(63.6%),headache(62.5%),sore throat(88.7%),rhinorrhea(17%),chest pain(58%),diarrhea(19.3%),nausea and vomiting(38.6%),anosmia(62.5%),as well as dysgeusia(64.8%).Based on chest radiograph or computed tomography(CT)scan,9.1%of the patients had unilateral pneumonia,90.9% had bilateral pneumonia,and 96.6% had multiple mottling and ground-glass opacity.Age was found associated with a significant increase in headache(p=0.005),rhinorrhea(p=0.013),chest pain(p=0.007),and the need for positive airway pressure(p=0.008).Between pre-and post-hospital admissions,there was a significant increase in lactate dehydrogenase and ferritin but a decrease in platelet,D-dimer,hemoglobin,lymphocytes,neutrophils,and total leucocyte count(p<0.001).There was a significant association between hospital stay and D-dimer level(p=0.05).Conclusion:Limited-resource hospitals in Egypt were efficient in managing mild and moderate hospitalized cases of COVID-19 with comorbidities.Many of these cases did not escalate to severe illness and were all alive upon discharge.Early management of COVID-19 tends to delay the disease progression to severe illness and improves patients5 chances of survival.Treating COVID-19 or using oxygen therapy at home can also delay the need for hospitalization in mild or moderate cases.Marwa O Elgendy Ahmed M Khalaf Ahmed O El-Gendy Mona A Abdelrahman Sara O El Gendy Ahmed M Abdel Hamied Omar Essam Karim Al Amir Esraa M Yousry Mohamed EA Abdelrahim 2022Journal of Clinical and Nursing Research2022,6,3:0

14Micropropagation of Daylily(Hemerocallis fulva)from Crown-Tip Explants and Assessment of Somaclonal Variation of in Vitro-Propagated Plants Using SCoT Markers显示文摘Determination of the somaclonal variation of in vitro-propagated plants is crucial to determine the appropriate micropropagation protocol and growth regulators for commercial scale multiplication.In this research,nine multiplication media(MM)augmented with different concentrations of 6-benzyl adenine(BA),Kinetin(Kin),and Thidiazuron(TDZ),Three rooting media(RM)supplemented with three levels ofα-naphthalene acetic acid(NAA)and three types of soil mixtures(v/v);Coco peat/Vermiculite/Sand(CVS),Peat moss/Perlite/Sand(PPS)and Peat moss/Perlite(PP)were used in the micropropagation protocol of daylily plants.MM2 showed the maximum shoot length and the number of leaves,while MM9 showed the maximum number of shoots.The RM1 showed the maximum root length and the number of roots.During acclimatization,CVS,PPS,and PP soil mixture showed similar performance except the CVS mixture showed lower performance regarding plant height and diameter.The genetic fidelity of micropropagated plants was evaluated using Start Codon Targeted(SCoT)Markers.Six SCoT primers amplified 51 scorable bands with an approximate range from 146 bp to 1598 bp size.Thirty one out of 51 loci were presented in the mother plants.40 loci were polymorphic,11 were monomorphic and 7 were unique.The amplification patterns of the micropropagated plants demonstrated genetic integrity to the mother plant ranging from 84.32 to 47.06 and somaclonal variations ranging from 52.94 with 5 mg/l BA pathway to 15.68 with 1mg/l TDZ pathway,thus demonstrating that the homogeneity and the variation of the micropropagated plants affected by the type and the quantity of the plant growth regulator used during multiplication subcultures.This research can be successfully used for other ornamental and medicinal plants’bulk multiplication,germplasm conservation,and future genetic improvement.Esraa E.Shalan Said S.Soliman Ahmed A.Mahmoud Jameel M.Al-Khayri Salha M.ALshamrani Fatmah A.Safhi Areej S.Jalal Diaa Abd El-Moneim Abdallah A.Hassanin 2023Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2023,92,7:0

16A Novel Convolutional Neural Network Model for Malaria Cell Images Classification显示文摘Infectious diseases are an imminent danger that faces human beings around the world.Malaria is considered a highly contagious disease.The diagnosis of various diseases,including malaria,was performed manually,but it required a lot of time and had some human errors.Therefore,there is a need to investigate an efficient and fast automatic diagnosis system.Deploying deep learning algorithms can provide a solution in which they can learn complex image patterns and have a rapid improvement in medical image analysis.This study proposed a Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)model to detect malaria automatically.A Malaria Convolutional Neural Network(MCNN)model is proposed in this work to classify the infected cases.MCNN focuses on detecting infected cells,which aids in the computation of parasitemia,or infection measures.The proposed model achieved 0.9929,0.9848,0.9859,0.9924,0.0152,0.0141,0.0071,0.9890,0.9894,and 0.9780 in terms of specificity,sensitivity,precision,accuracy,F1-score,and Matthews Correlation Coefficient,respectively.A comparison was carried out between the proposed model and some recent works in the literature.This comparison demonstrates that the proposed model outperforms the compared works in terms of evaluation metrics.Esraa Hassan Mahmoud Y.Shams Noha A.Hikal Samir Elmougy 2022Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,9:0
17Robust Deep Learning Model for Black Fungus Detection Based on Gabor Filter and Transfer Learning显示文摘Black fungus is a rare and dangerous mycology that usually affects the brain and lungs and could be life-threatening in diabetic cases.Recently,some COVID-19 survivors,especially those with co-morbid diseases,have been susceptible to black fungus.Therefore,recovered COVID-19 patients should seek medical support when they notice mucormycosis symptoms.This paper proposes a novel ensemble deep-learning model that includes three pre-trained models:reset(50),VGG(19),and Inception.Our approach is medically intuitive and efficient compared to the traditional deep learning models.An image dataset was aggregated from various resources and divided into two classes:a black fungus class and a skin infection class.To the best of our knowledge,our study is the first that is concerned with building black fungus detection models based on deep learning algorithms.The proposed approach can significantly improve the performance of the classification task and increase the generalization ability of such a binary classification task.According to the reported results,it has empirically achieved a sensitivity value of 0.9907,a specificity value of 0.9938,a precision value of 0.9938,and a negative predictive value of 0.9907.Esraa Hassan Fatma M.Talaat Samah Adel Samir Abdelrazek Ahsan Aziz Yunyoung Nam Nora El-Rashidy 2023Computer Systems Science & Engineering2023,47,11:0
18Price Prediction of Seasonal Items Using Time Series Analysis显示文摘The price prediction task is a well-studied problem due to its impact on the business domain.There are several research studies that have been conducted to predict the future price of items by capturing the patterns of price change,but there is very limited work to study the price prediction of seasonal goods(e.g.,Christmas gifts).Seasonal items’prices have different patterns than normal items;this can be linked to the offers and discounted prices of seasonal items.This lack of research studies motivates the current work to investigate the problem of seasonal items’prices as a time series task.We proposed utilizing two different approaches to address this problem,namely,1)machine learning(ML)-based models and 2)deep learning(DL)-based models.Thus,this research tuned a set of well-known predictive models on a real-life dataset.Those models are ensemble learning-based models,random forest,Ridge,Lasso,and Linear regression.Moreover,two new DL architectures based on gated recurrent unit(GRU)and long short-term memory(LSTM)models are proposed.Then,the performance of the utilized ensemble learning and classic ML models are compared against the proposed two DL architectures on different accuracy metrics,where the evaluation includes both numerical and visual comparisons of the examined models.The obtained results show that the ensemble learning models outperformed the classic machine learning-based models(e.g.,linear regression and random forest)and the DL-based models.Ahmed Salah Mahmoud Bekhit Esraa Eldesouky Ahmed Ali Ahmed Fathalla 2023Computer Systems Science & Engineering2023,46,7:0
19Therapeutic pediatric upper endoscopy: a retrospective report from a low-volume center显示文摘Background:Pediatric endoscopy has become an essential diagnostic and therapeutic tool for a range of gastrointestinal conditions in children,according to published guidelines.This study aimed to assess the indications,outcomes,and complications of therapeutic endoscopy in children at King Abdullah University Hospital(KAUH)in Jordan.Methods:This study conducted a retrospective chart review of therapeutic endoscopic procedures,including esophageal dilation,variceal and non-variceal hemostasis,foreign body retrieval,and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy(PEG)Tube insertion,performed between January 2014 and December 2020 at the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit(a mixed adult and pediatric unit)at KAUH.Demographic data,indications for intervention,comorbidities,procedural outcomes,postprocedural treatment,complications,readmission,and patient follow-up data were extracted from the patient's medical records.Results:During the study period,185 patients underwent 260 therapeutic endoscopic procedures.110(60%)of the patients were boys.The average age of the patients was 81.8±51.46(standard deviation)months.Foreign body retrieval was the most common procedure,with accidental ingestion being the primary cause and coins being the most commonly impacted foreign body.Followed by esophageal dilatation and PEG tube insertion.Complications were mild and rare.Conclusion:The success rates and post-procedural complications of pediatric endoscopy procedures are similar between low-and high-volume hospitals worldwide,and procedural volume is not the only factor contributing to procedural outcomes and complication rates.Eyad Altamimi Reem AbuAssi Sana`a Abdulnabi Esraa Al-Faris Aya Zarraq Lujain Leghzawe Ma`moun Ali Naif Rawabdeh 2023Gastroenterology & Hepatology Research2023,5,4:0
20A Triple-Channel Encrypted Hybrid Fusion Technique to Improve Security of Medical Images显示文摘Assuring medical images protection and robustness is a compulsory necessity nowadays.In this paper,a novel technique is proposed that fuses the wavelet-induced multi-resolution decomposition of the Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT)with the energy compaction of the Discrete Wavelet Transform(DCT).The multi-level Encryption-based Hybrid Fusion Technique(EbhFT)aims to achieve great advances in terms of imperceptibility and security of medical images.A DWT disintegrated sub-band of a cover image is reformed simultaneously using the DCT transform.Afterwards,a 64-bit hex key is employed to encrypt the host image as well as participate in the second key creation process to encode the watermark.Lastly,a PN-sequence key is formed along with a supplementary key in the third layer of the EbHFT.Thus,the watermarked image is generated by enclosing both keys into DWT and DCT coefficients.The fusions ability of the proposed EbHFT technique makes the best use of the distinct privileges of using both DWT and DCT methods.In order to validate the proposed technique,a standard dataset of medical images is used.Simulation results show higher performance of the visual quality(i.e.,57.65)for the watermarked forms of all types of medical images.In addition,EbHFT robustness outperforms an existing scheme tested for the same dataset in terms of Normalized Correlation(NC).Finally,extra protection for digital images from against illegal replicating and unapproved tampering using the proposed technique.Ahmed S.Salama Mohamed Amr Mokhtar Mazhar B.Tayel Esraa Eldesouky Ahmed Ali 2021Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,7:0
