1Immunotherapy – new perspective in lung cancer显示文摘Lung carcinoma is associated with a high mortality worldwide,being the leading cause of cancer death.It is mainly classified into squamous non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC),non-squamous NSCLC,and small cell lung cancer.However,such malignancy has been increasingly subdivided into histological and molecular subtypes to guide treatment.Therapies can be used in adjuvant and palliative settings.Regarding immunotherapy,it has been widely tested in both first or subsequent palliative lines.In this sense,drugs such as pembrolizumab,nivolumab,atezolizumab,ipilimumab,avelumab,and durvalumab have been assessed in large studies.Some of these trials have also studied these medicines in adjuvant and in maintenance therapy.In recent years,advances in immunotherapy have raised the hope that the unfavorable prognosis observed in several affected individuals can be changed.Immunotherapy has increased the overall survival in squamous NSCLC,non-squamous NSCLC,and small cell lung cancer.However,it has added to the oncology practice some side effects that are unusual in standard chemotherapy and require special clinical support.In order to show how immunotherapy is being applied in the treatment of lung carcinoma,we reviewed the main studies in adjuvant and palliative scenarios.What is the better scheme?What is the better combination?What is the better dose?When should we use immunotherapy?Does programmed cell death ligand 1 expression significantly interfere in immunotherapy efficiency?Some of these questions have already been answered,while others require more investigations.Fillipe Dantas Pinheiro Adriano Fernandes Teixeira Breno Bittencourt de Brito Filipe Antonio Franca da Silva Maria Luísa Cordeiro Santos Fabrício Freire de Melo 2020World Journal of Clinical Oncology2020,11,5:3

3Tribological performance under different environments of Ti-C-N composite films for marine wear-resistant parts显示文摘The need for reducing the wear in mechanical parts used in the industry makes self-lubricant films one of the sustainable solutions to achieve long-term protection under different environmental conditions.The purpose of this work is to study the influence of C additions on the tribological behavior of a magnetron-sputtered TiN film in air,water,and seawater.The results show that the addition of C into the TiN binary film induced a new amorphous phase,and the films exhibited a dual phase of fcc(face-centered cubic)-TiN and amorphous carbon.The antifriction and wear-resistance properties were enhanced in air and water by adding 19.1at%C.However,a further increase in the C concentration improved anti-frictional properties but also led to higher wear rates.Although the amorphous phase induced microbatteries and accelerated the corrosion of TiN phases in seawater,the negative abrasion state was detected for all Ti-C-N films due to the adhesion of the tribocorrosion debris on the wear track.Hongbo Ju Rui Zhou Jing Luan Ch Sateesh Kumar Lihua Yu Junhua Xu Junfeng Yang Bowei Zhang Filipe Fernandes 2023International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2023,30,1:1

6Insights into the oxidation resistance mechanism and tribological behaviors of multilayered TiSiN/CrVxN hard coatings显示文摘In the last decades,vanadium alloyed coatings have been introduced as potential candidates for self-lubrication due to their perfect tribological properties.In this work,the influence of V incorporation on the wear performance and oxidation resistance of TiSiN/CrN film coatings deposited by direct current(DC)reactive magnetron sputtering is investigated.The results show that vanadium incorporation significantly decreases the oxidation resistance of the coatings.In general,two layers are formed during the oxidation process:i)Ti(V)O_(2) on top,followed by a protective layer,which is subdivided into two layers,Cr_(2)O_(3) and Si-O.ii)The diffusion of V controls the oxidation of V-containing coatings.The addition of vanadium improves the wear resistance of coatings,and the wear rate decreases with increasing V content in the coatings;however,the friction coefficient is independent of the chemical composition of the coatings.The wear of the V-containing coatings is driven by polishing wear.Hongbo Ju Moussa Athmani Jing Luan Abbas AL-Rjoub Albano Cavaleiro Talha Bin Yaqub Abdelouahad Chala Fabio Ferreira Filipe Fernandes 2023International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2023,30,12:0
7Roots and rhizomes of wild Asparagus:Nutritional composition,bioactivity and nanoencapsulation of the most potent extract显示文摘The nutritional composition and bioactive properties of roots and rhizomes of Asparagus stipularis were evaluated.Antioxidant activity of extracts obtained by infusion was evaluated using free radicals scavenging and reducing power methods.Porcine liver primary cell was used to check the hepatotoxicity of infusions.Results revealed that Asparagus samples are likely a source of nutrients,such as dietary fibre and essential fatty acids.HPLC-DAD-ESI/MS characterization of infusions allowed the identification and quantitation of 7 phenolic compounds,all hydroxycinnamoyl derivatives,with caffeic acid as the most abundant.Roots infusion contained the highest amounts of these compounds.It also exhibited the highest antioxidant activity in all assays,with EC_(50) values of 0.44±0.01,0.98±0.03 and 0.64±0.01 mg/mL for DPPH,ABTS and FRAP assays,respectively,with no toxicity towards PLP2 primary cell cultures(GI_(50)>400μg/mL).PLGA nanoparticles loaded with root extract were prepared using solvent-evaporation double emulsion method.Nanoparticles size was about 260 nm and a polydispersity index around 0.1,with a zeta potential of about-36 mV,as well as a good encapsulation efficiency of approximately 83%.Their morphology was analysed by SEM and spherical polymeric nanoparticles with a smooth surface were observed.FTIR and DSC were also performed,which allowed corroborating the efficacy of the encapsulation and to confirm the production of a stable and robust system to load Asparagus extracts.The developed nanoparticles are expected to be used as delivery systems for bioactive compounds of A.stipularis and they could be used as an innovative dietary supplement.Khaoula Adouni Ana Júlio Celestino Santos-Buelga Ana M.Gonzalez-Paramas Patrícia Filipe Patricia Rijo Sofia A.Costa Lima Salette Reis Angela Fernandes Isabel C.F.R.Ferreira Virginia Fernandez-Ruiz Patricia Morales Guido Flamini Lotfi Achour Pedro Fonte 2022Food Bioscience2022,45,1:0

9Maternal low protein diet induces persistent expression changes in metabolic genes in male rats显示文摘BACKGROUND Perinatal exposure to a poor nutritional environment predisposes the progeny to the development of metabolic disease at the adult age,both in experimental models and humans.Numerous adaptive responses to maternal protein restriction have been reported in metabolic tissues.However,the expression of glucose/fatty acid metabolism-related genes in adipose tissue and liver needs to be described.AIM To evaluate the metabolic impact of perinatal malnutrition,we determined malnutrition-associated gene expression alterations in liver and adipose tissue.METHODS In the present study,we evaluated the alterations in gene expression of glycolytic/Krebs cycle genes(Pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 4 and citrate synthase),adipogenic and lipolytic genes and leptin in the adipose tissue of offspring rats at 30 d and 90 d of age exposed to maternal isocaloric low protein(LP)diet throughout gestation and lactation.We also evaluated,in the livers of the same animals,the same set of genes as well as the gene expression of the transcription factors peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1,forkhead box protein O1 and hepatocyte nuclear factor 4 and of gluconeogenic genes.RESULTS In the adipose tissue,we observed a transitory(i.e.,at 30 d)downregulation of pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 4,citrate synthase and carnitine palmitoyl transferase 1b gene expression.Such transcriptional changes did not persist in adult LP rats(90 d),but we observed a tendency towards a decreased gene expression of leptin(P=0.052).The liver featured some gene expression alterations comparable to the adipose tissue,such as pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 4 downregulation at 30 d and displayed other tissue-specific changes,including citrate synthase and fatty acid synthase upregulation,but pyruvate kinase downregulation at 30 d in the LP group and carnitine palmitoyl transferase 1b downregulation at 90 d.These gene alterations,together with previously described changes in gene expression in skeletal muscle,may account for the metabolic adaptations in response to maternal LP diet and highlight the occurrence of persistent transcriptional defects in key metabolic genes that may contribute to the development of metabolic alterations during the adult life as a consequence of perinatal malnutrition.CONCLUSION We conclude that perinatal malnutrition relays long-lasting transcriptional alterations in metabolically active organs,i.e.,liver and adipose tissue.Allan de Oliveira Lira JoséLuiz de Brito Alves Mariana Pinheiro Fernandes Diogo Vasconcelos David Filipe Santana João Henrique da Costa-Silva Béatrice Morio Carol Góis Leandro Luciano Pirola 2020World Journal of Diabetes2020,11,5:0

12The Igarapé Weir decelerated transport of contaminated sediment in the Paraopeba River after the failure of the B1 tailings dam(Brumadinho)显示文摘The B1 dam of Corrego do Feijao Mine,owned by Vale,S.A.mining company and located on the Ferro-Carvao stream,collapsed and injected 2.8 Mm^(3)of clayey,silty,and sandy iron-and manganese-rich tailings into the Paraopeba River(Minas Gerais state,Brazil).The accident occurred on 25 January 2019 and the tailings have been co-transported with coarser natural sediment since then,being partly trapped in the Igarape Weir reservoir located on the Paraopeba River nearly 45 km downstream the injection point.The general purpose of the current study was to model suspended sediment transport in the vicinity of the Igarape Weir aiming to assess the concomitant barrier effect imposed by this structure.Specifically,the spatial distributions of suspended clay,silt,and very fine-grained sand fractions(CSS)of sediment were mapped around the Igarape Weir under low-flow(16 m^(3)/s)and high-flow(5 to 10,000 years return period stream discharge;699e2,699 m^(3)/s)regimes,using RiverFlow2D as the modelling tool.The concentrations of the various grain materials in the upstream and downstream sectors were quantified linking the barrier effect to concentration reductions in the direction of stream flow.It was also a study goal to calculate differences of iron and manganese concentrations in the sediment+tailings mixtures along the Paraopeba River.The study results showed reductions in the CSS between 6.6%and 18%,from upstream to downstream of the Igarape Weir,related with backwater effects,free and sub-merged hydraulic jumps,bank sedimentation in periods of high flow,and streambed sedimentation controlled by channel sinuosity and tailings density.These reductions were accompanied by drops in the concentrations of iron and manganese present in the clay and silt fractions,which varied between 6%and 42%under low flows and between 16%and 44%under high flows.Bank sedimentation was viewed as a potential threat to the riparian vegetation in the long-term.Dredging is the potentially most effective mitigation measure to help lead the Paraopeba River to a pre-rupture condition.The retention of sediment+tailings transported in suspension is less effective than the trapping of bedload sediment+tailings behind the Igarape weir.The efficacy of sediment trapping is expected to be larger for natural sediment because it is much coarser than the tailings.In that context,the simulations revealed for the low-flow period that 33.6%of the sediment deposition comprised suspended transport of natural sediment(thus,was comprised 66.4%of bedload transport),this proportion rose to 86.9%for mixtures of natural sediment+tailings,a result that did not differ much for the high-flow periods.Daniela Patrícia Salgado Terencio Fernando Antonio Leal Pacheco Renato Farias do Valle Junior Mayte Maria Abreu Pires de Melo Silva Teresa Cristina Tarle Pissarra Marília Carvalho de Melo Carlos Alberto Valera Luís Filipe Sanches Fernandes 2023International Journal of Sediment Research2023,38,5:0
