2Ecology and social system of northern gibbons living in cold seasonal forests显示文摘Gibbons in China represent the northernmost margin of present day gibbon species distribution(around N25°). Compared to tropical habitats, northern gibbon habitats are characterized by low temperatures and remarkable seasonal variation in fruit abundance.How gibbons adapt to their cold and seasonal habitats and what ecological factors affect their sociality are key questions for understanding their ecology and social system evolution, the elucidation of which will contribute to the conservation of these special populations/species. According to preliminary short-term studies, northern gibbons consume more leaves and use larger home ranges than tropical gibbons. Interestingly, some Nomascus groups consist of more than one adult female. However,these preliminary results are not well understood or incorporated into current socio-ecological theories regarding gibbon species. To better understand northern gibbons, our team has systematically studied three habituated groups of Nomascus concolor, three groups of N. nasutus, and two habituated groups of Hoolock tianxing since 2002. In this paper,we stress the challenges facing gibbons living in northern habitats and summarize their behavioral adaptations to their harsh environments. We also describe the northern gibbon social system and discuss the potential relationships between their ecology and sociality. 3Mapping theme trends and knowledge structures for human neural stem cells:a quantitative and co-word biclustering analysis for the 2013-2018 period显示文摘Neural stem cells,which are capable of multi-potential differentiation and self-renewal,have recently been shown to have clinical potential for repairing central nervous system tissue damage.However,the theme trends and knowledge structures for human neural stem cells have not yet been studied bibliometrically.In this study,we retrieved 2742 articles from the PubMed database from 2013 to 2018 using 'Neural Stem Cells' as the retrieval word.Co-word analysis was conducted to statistically quantify the characteristics and popular themes of human neural stem cell-related studies.Bibliographic data matrices were generated with the Bibliographic Item Co-Occurrence Matrix Builder.We identified 78 high-frequency Medical Subject Heading(MeSH)terms.A visual matrix was built with the repeated bisection method in gCLUTO software.A social network analysis network was generated with Ucinet 6.0 software and GraphPad Prism 5 software.The analyses demonstrated that in the 6-year period,hot topics were clustered into five categories.As suggested by the constructed strategic diagram,studies related to cytology and physiology were well-developed,whereas those related to neural stem cell applications,tissue engineering,metabolism and cell signaling,and neural stem cell pathology and virology remained immature.Neural stem cell therapy for stroke and Parkinson’s disease,the genetics of microRNAs and brain neoplasms,as well as neuroprotective agents,Zika virus,Notch receptor,neural crest and embryonic stem cells were identified as emerging hot spots.These undeveloped themes and popular topics are potential points of focus for new studies on human neural stem cells.Wen-Juan Wei Bei Shi Xin Guan Jing-Yun Ma Ya-Chen Wang Jing Liu 2019Neural Regeneration Research2019,14,10:5
4Characterization and Expression Analysis of a Complement Component Gene in Sea Cucumber(Apostichopus japonicus)显示文摘The complement system plays a crucial role in the innate immune system of animals. It can be activated by distinct yet overlapping classical, alternative and lectin pathways. In the alternative pathway, complement factor B(Bf) serves as the catalytic subunit of complement component 3(C3) convertase, which plays the central role among three activation pathways. In this study, the Bf gene in sea cucumber(Apostichopus japonicus), termed Aj Bf, was obtained by rapid amplification of c DNA ends(RACE). The full-length c DNA of Aj Bf was 3231 bp in length barring the poly(A) tail. It contained an open reading frame(ORF) of 2742 bp encoding 913 amino acids, a 105 bp 5'-UTR(5'-terminal untranslated region) and a 384 bp 3'-UTR. Aj Bf was a mosaic protein with six CCP(complement control protein) domains, a VWA(von Willebrand factor A) domain, and a serine protease domain. The deduced molecular weight of Aj Bf protein was 101 k Da. Quantitative real time PCR(q RT-PCR) analysis indicated that the expression level of Aj Bf in A. japonicus was obviously higher at larval stage than that at embryonic stage. Expression detection in different tissues showed that Aj Bf expressed higher in coelomocytes than in other four tissues. In addation, Aj Bf expression in different tissues was induced significantly after LPS or Poly I:C challenge. 5Indoor massive multiple-input multiple-output channel characterization and performance evaluation显示文摘We present a measurement campaign to characterize an indoor massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel system, using a 64-element virtual linear array, a 64-element virtual planar array, and a 128-element virtual planar array. The array topologies are generated using a 3D mechanical turntable. The measurements are conducted at 2, 4, 6, 11, 15, and 22 GHz, with a large bandwidth of 200 MHz. Both line-of-sight (LOS) and non-LOS (NLOS) propagation scenarios are considered. The typical channel parameters are extracted, including path loss,shadow fading, power delay profile, and root mean square (RMS) delay spread. The frequency dependence of these channel parameters is analyzed. The correlation between shadow fading and RMS delay spread is discussed. In addition, the performance of the standard linear precoder—the matched filter, which can be used for intersymbol interference (ISI) mitigation by shortening the RMS delay spread, is investigated. Other performance measures,such as entropy capacity, Demmel condition number, and channel ellipticity, are analyzed. 11Proximity association in polygynous western black crested gibbons (Nomascus concolor jingdongensis): network structure and seasonality显示文摘We investigated the structure and seasonality of the proximity network in a group of polygynous western black crested gibbons (Nomascus concolor) using social network analysis. The spatial proximity changed seasonally and was affected by temperature and rainfall. Preferred proximity association was not distributed randomly among individuals. Kinship was one explanation for the social structure, as offspring preferred to maintain close proximity with their mothers. The proximity of infants to mothers decreased with age, and independent offspring had lower proximity to mothers than dependent ones. We found that the adult male had different proximity relationships with two different adult females. The frequency of proximity between the male and the infant-carrying female was significantly higher than that between the male and the female who had immigrated carrying one offspring of uncertain paternity into the group. Infanticide avoidance and/or predation protection for dependent infants might explain the proximity relationship differences. Temperature influenced group proximity association, with individual proximity increasing in the cold months and decreasing in the hot months. 16An Efficient Approach for Mitigating Covert Storage Channel Attacks in Virtual Machines by the Anti-Detection Criterion显示文摘Covert channels have been an effective means for leaking confidential information across security domains and numerous studies are available on typical covert channels attacks and defenses.Existing covert channel threat restriction solutions are based on the threat estimation criteria of covert channels such as capacity,accuracy,and short messages which are effective in evaluating the information transmission ability of a covert(storage)channel.However,these criteria cannot comprehensively reflect the key factors in the communication process such as shared resources and synchronization and therefore are unable to evaluate covertness and complexity of increasingly upgraded covert storage channels.As a solution,the anti-detection criterion was introduced to eliminate these limitations of cover channels.Though effective,most threat restriction techniques inevitably incur high performance overhead and hence become impractical.In this work,we avoid such overheads and present a restriction algorithm based on the anti-detection criterion to restrict threats that are associated with covert storage channels in virtual machines while maintaining the resource efficiency of the systems.Experimental evaluation shows that our proposed solution is able to counter covert storage channel attacks in an effective manner.Compared with Pump,a well-known traditional restriction algorithm used in practical systems,our solution significantly reduces the system overhead.Chong Wang Nasro Min-Allah Bei Guan Yu-Qi Lin Jing-Zheng Wu Yong-Ji Wang 2019Journal of Computer Science & Technology2019,34,6:0

18Observation of intra-group and extra-group copulation and reproductive characters in free ranging groups of western black crested gibbon(Nomascus concolor jingdongensis)显示文摘Black crested gibbons(Nomascus concolor)are 1 of only 3 gibbon species that have been observed in long-term polygynous groups,but their mating behavior and reproductive characters have never been reported.Based on population monitoring over 7 years and direct observation for 26 months of the study groups in Wuliang Mountain,central Yunnan,we describe for the first time the copulation behavior and breeding pattern of free-ranging western black crested gibbons.The gestation period of black crested gibbons is estimated to be between 6 and 7 months.The average breeding interval is 3.5 years,with infant independence at approximately 2.5 years.We observed 2 intra-group copulations and 5 extra-group copulations.Copulations were initiated when a female gave a‘solicitation’gesture.When a male made any mating attempt,the female might refuse it.These results demonstrate direct female mate choice.Both male and female gibbons dispersed from their natal groups and sometimes replaced paired adults in other groups.We observed no evidence of infanticide during inter-group conflicts or after replacement of adults.Together with extra-group copulations,these phenomena indicate a flexible social organization and complex mating system.We also observed a male-biased sex ratio among offspring.More genetic work is necessary to describe the effects of inter-group copulation and the genetic diversity of this population.Bei HUANG Zhenghua GUAN Qingyong NI Joseph D.ORKIN Pengfei FAN Xuelong JIANG 2013Integrative Zoology2013,8,4:0
19Construction of SNP genetic maps based on targeted next-generation sequencing and QTL mapping of vital agronomic traits in faba bean(Vicia faba L.)显示文摘Owing to the limitation of a large genome size(~13 Gb),the genetic and gene mapping studies on faba bean(Vicia faba L.)are lagging far behind those for other legumes.In this study,we selected three purified faba bean lines(Yundou 8137,H0003712,and H000572)as parents and constructed two F2 populations.These two F2 populations,namely 167 F2 plants in Pop1(Yundou 8137×H0003712)and 204 F2 plants in Pop2(H000572×Yundou 8137),were genotyped using a targeted next-generation sequencing(TNGS)genotyping platform,and two high-density single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNP)genetic linkage maps of faba bean were constructed.The map constructed from Pop1 contained 5103 SNPs with a length of 1333.31 cM and an average marker density of 0.26 cM.The map constructed from Pop2 contained 1904 SNPs with a greater length of 1610.61 cM.In these two F2 populations,QTL mapping identified 98 QTLs for 14 agronomic traits related to the flowers,pods,plant types and grains.The two maps were then merged into an integrated genetic linkage map containing 6895 SNPs,with a length of 3324.48 cM.These results not only lay the foundation for fine mapping and map-based cloning of related genes,but can also accelerate the molecular marker-assisted breeding of faba bean.LI Meng-wei HE Yu-hua LIU Rong LI Guan WANG Dong JI Yi-shan YAN Xin HUANG Shu-xian WANG Chen-yu MA Yu LIU Bei YANG Tao ZONG Xu-xiao 2023Journal of Integrative Agriculture2023,22,9:0
