1Investigation of the alloying effect on deformation behavior in Mg by Visco-Plastic Self-Consistent modeling显示文摘Alloying elements can drastically alter the deformation behavior of Mg.In the present work,Visco-Plastic Self-Consistent(VPSC)modeling was employed to investigate the effect of alloying elements on Mg’s tensile behavior,in particular the relative activity of different slip and twinning modes.Mg-0.47 wt.%Ca,Mg-2 wt.%Nd,and AZ31 extruded alloys were deformed by micro-tensile tests in a scanning electron microscope(SEM).Texture and grain size measured by electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD)were used as the input for VPSC.After parameter optimization,the VPSC model successfully reproduced the stress-strain curve of each alloy.Simulation results indicate that the slip/twinning activity in the three alloys are different.Mg-0.47 wt.%Ca shows strong extrusion texture,and prismatic slip was quite active during its tensile deformation.In contrast,Mg-2 wt.%Nd shows weak extrusion texture,and basal slip was dominant.This alloy also developed more twinning activity than the other two alloys.AZ31 shows strong extrusion texture similar as Mg-0.47 wt.%Ca,but prismatic slip was less active in it.The slip/twinning activity revealed by the VPSC model can explain the difference in the tensile behavior of the three alloys.Alireza Maldar Leyun Wang Gaoming Zhu Xiaoqin Zeng 2020Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2020,8,1:5
2Origins of high ductility exhibited by an extruded magnesium alloy Mg-1.8Zn-0.2Ca:Experiments and crystal plasticity modeling显示文摘Low ductility and strength are major bottlenecks against Mg alloys’wide applications.In this work,we systematically design the composition and fabrication process for a low-alloyed Mg-Zn-Ca alloy,showing that it can be extruded at low temperatures(~250℃)and high speeds(~2 mm/s).After the extrusion,this alloy exhibits a substantially weakened basal texture,relatively small grain size,very high tensile elongation(~30%),and good strength.The origin of the considerably improved ductility was studied using a combination of three-dimensional atom probe tomography(3D-APT),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),electron backscattered diffraction(EBSD)in conjunction with surface slip trace analysis,in-situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction,and elasto-plastic self-consistent(EPSC)modeling.Co-segregation of Zn and Ca atoms at a grain boundary is observed and associated with texture weakening and grain boundary mediated plasticity,both improving the ductility.While basal slip and prismatic slip are identified as the dominant deformation systems in the alloy,the ratio between their slip resistances is substantially reduced relative to pure Mg and most other Mg alloys,significantly contributing to the improved ductility of the alloy.This Mg-Zn-Ca alloy exhibiting excellent mechanical properties and low fabrication cost is a promising candidate for industrial productions.Jie Wang Gaoming Zhu Leyun Wang Evgenii Vasilev Jun-Sang Park Gang Sha Xiaoqin Zeng Marko Knezevic 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,25:2
3The effect of basal dislocation on {11■1} twin boundary evolution in a Mg-Gd-Y-Zr alloy显示文摘This study aims to understand the features of{11■1}twin boundaries in a high strain rate compressed Mg-10 Gd-3Y-0.4Zr using electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD)and transmission electron microscopy(TEM).Based on the Schmid factor calculations,the basal dislocations are easily activated within the{11■1}twin and suppressed in the surrounding matrix.The consequent basal dislocation-twin interaction during deformation can lead to the misorentiation deviation of{11■1}twin boundaries,accompanying with the formation of a step at the twin boundary.Such a{11■1}twin boundary evolution mechanism provides a new vision of twinning behavior in Mg alloys.Huan Zhang Yangxin Li Yuxuan Liu Qingchun Zhu Xixi Qi Gaoming Zhu Jinhui Wang Peipeng Jin Xiaoqin Zeng 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,22:2
