8Molecular basis of the silkworm mutant re^(l) causing red egg color and embryonic death显示文摘The coloration and hatchability of insect eggs can affect individual and population survival.However,few genetic loci have been documented to affect both traits,and the genes involved in regulating these two traits are unclear.The silkworm recessive mutant re^(l)shows both red egg color and embryo mortality.We studied the molecular basis of the re^(l)phenotype formation.Through genetic analysis,gene screening and sequencing,we found that two closely linked genes,BGIBMGA003497(Bmre)and BGIBMG4003697(Bm-Semala),control egg color and embryo mortality,respectively.Six base pairs of the Bm-re gene are deleted in its open reading frame,and BmSemala is expressed at abnormally low levels in mutant re^(l).BmSemala gene function verification was performed using RNA interference and clustered randomly interspersed palindromic repeats(CRISPR)/CRISPR-associate protein 9.Deficiency of the BmSemala gene can cause the death of silkworm embryos.This study revealed the molecular basis of silkworm re^(l)mutant formation and indicated that the Semala gene is essential for insect embryo development.Jiang-Wen Luo Er-Xia An Ya-Ru Lu Ling Yang Ting-Ting Gai Song-Zhen He Song-Yuan Wu Hai Hu Chun-Lin Li Cheng Lu Xiao-Ling Tong Fang-Yin Dai 2021Insect Science2021,28,5:0
9Oxygenic iron clusters in ZSM-5 zeolite promote quantum sieving of gaseous hydrogen isotopes显示文摘Isotopic separation is of paramount importance for producing high-purity heavy hydrogen,yet the process remains hugely challenging.Here,we report on an Fe/ZSM-5 zeolite that was able to efficiently separate deuterium from protium via chemical quantum sieving.Structural data showed that four types of Fe species were present in Fe/ZSM-5 and oligomeric Fe-O clusters in the zeolite pores were correlated directly with gas selectivity.Gas adsorption revealed that Fe-O species served as the main adsorption sites and interacted with D_(2) more strongly than with H_(2).D_(2)/H_(2)separation was exemplified using thermal desorption spectroscopy.D_(2)/H_(2) selectivity increased with Fe loading in Fe/ZSM-5 and a selectivity of 32.1 was obtained with an optimal loading of 7 wt%.The shift of desorption temperature supports the chemical affinity-based quantum sieving of D_(2)over H_(2).This study demonstrates an effective strategy for enhancing D_(2)/H_(2) separation and the high selectivity means that Fe/ZSM-5 has strong potential in hydrogen isotope separation.Jingjing Zhang Yongyan Deng Dongxu Gai Yang Shi Xingwen Feng Peilong Li Yongtao An Xiaoqin Zou 2024Science China Chemistry2024,67,4:0
10Sublayer design and ablation resistance of CVD-TaC alternate coatings with different crystallite morphologies for C/C composites显示文摘Tantalum carbon(TaC)alternate coatings with sublayers comprised of different crystallite morphologies were prepared on carbon/carbon composites by chemical vapor deposition.Their ablative behaviors and defending mechanisms were both investigated.The specimen with the sublayer composed of columnar crystals exhibited a better ablation resistance due to the toughness enhancement induced by the lami-nated structure.However,the mechanical denudation of the sample only containing acicular crystals and the coating spallation caused by superfluous gaseous products of the sample with the sublayer composed of nanocrystals both indicate their inferior anti-ablation properties.It is believed that the results will be helpful for the structural design and practical application of chemical vapor deposition(CVD)alternate coatings.Jing’an Kong Yulei Zhang Hanhui Wang Guohui Chen Wenhan Gai Pengfei Zhang Hejun Li 2023Journal of Materials Science & Technology2023,,10:0
