| 1 | Lessons in bridge damage learned from the Wenchuan earthquake显示文摘A strong earthquake occurred in Wenchuan County,Sichuan Province,China,on May 12,2008.Shortly after the earthquake,the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center of the Federal Highway Administration,in partnership with the Research Institute of Highways,the Ministry of Communication of China,led a reconnaissance team to conduct a post-earthquake bridge performance investigation of the transportation system in the earthquake affected areas.The U.S.transportation system reconnaissance team visited the area during July 20-24,2008.This paper presents the fi ndings and lessons learned by the team. | W. | 2 | Suboptimal Rayleigh damping coefficients in seismic analysis of viscously-damped structures显示文摘An optimization method for the consistent evaluation of two Rayleigh damping coefficients is proposed. By minimizing an objective function such as an error term of the peak displacement of a structure, the two coefficients can be determined with response spectral analysis. The optimization method degenerates into the conventional method used in current practices when only two modes of vibration are included in the objective function. Therefore, the proposed method with all significant modes included for simplicity in practical applications results in suboptimal damping coefficients. The effects of both spatial distribution and frequency content of excitations as well as structural dynamic characteristics on the evaluation of Rayleigh damping coefficients were investigated with a five-story building structure. | 4 | Pretreatment AKR1B10 expression predicts the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma development after hepatitis C virus eradication显示文摘AIM To clarify the association between aldo-keto reductase family 1 member B10(AKR1B10) expression and hepatocarcinogenesis after hepatitis C virus eradication.METHODS In this study,we enrolled 303 chronic hepatitis C patients who had achieved sustained virological response(SVR) through interferon-based antiviral therapy. Pretreatment AKR1B10 expression in the liver was immunohistochemically assessed and quantified as a percentage of positive staining area by using image-analysis software. A multivariate Cox analysis was used to estimate the hazard ratios(HRs) of AKR1B10 expression for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) development after achieving SVR. The cumulative incidences of HCC development were evaluated using Kaplan-Meier analysis and the log-rank test.RESULTS Of the 303 chronic hepatitis C patients,153(50.5%) showed scarce hepatic AKR1B10 expression,quantified as 0%,which was similar to the expression in control normal liver tissues. However,the remaining 150 patients(49.5%) exhibited various degrees of AKR1B10 expression in the liver,with a maximal AKR1B10 expression of 73%. During the median follow-up time of 3.6 years(range 1.0-10.0 years),8/303 patients developed HCC. Multivariate analysis revealed that only high AKR1B10 expression(≥ 8%) was an independent risk factor for HCC development(HR = 15.4,95%CI: 1. 8- 1 3 2. 5,P = 0. 0 1 2). T h e 5- y e a r c u m u l a t i v e incidences of HCC development were 13.7% and 0.5% in patients with high and low AKR1B10 expression,respectively(P < 0.001). | 6 | Seismic response control with density-variable tuned liquid dampers显示文摘In this paper,the seismic effectiveness of a density-variable tuned liquid damper(DVTLD) with a sloping bottom is experimentally investigated through a series of shake table tests on a 1/4-scale,3-story frame structure and numerically simulated by a new semi-analytical model.Special attention was given to reducing the fi rst peak and maximum response under near-and far-fi eld ground motions,and the robustness of a density-variable control system consisting of multiple DVTLDs with closely-spaced frequencies.Adaptable to earthquake excitations,the density-variable control system has been demonstrated to be more effective and more robust than its corresponding traditional tuned liquid damper in suppressing story drift and floor acceleration of the structure.Numerical simulations of the DVTLD-controlled structure agreed very well in phase with experimental results but somewhat overestimated the amplitude of the structural response. | Yuxiang Xin Genda Chen Lou Menglin | 2009 | Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2009，8，4： | 2 |
| 7 | Corrosion Resistance of Transmission Pipeline Steel Coated with Five Types of Enamels显示文摘Corrosion is one of the main causes of incidents occurred in hazardous liquid and gas transmission pipelines in the USA,resulting in a loss of over $12 billion per year.In this study,the corrosion resistance of pipeline steel coated with five types of enamel was investigated in 3.5 wt%NaCl solution with Unear polarization resistance and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests.Steel coupons were cut from API 5L X65 pipeline steel and coated with five types of enamels using the wet process.The microstructures of all enamel samples were examined by scanning electron microscopy.Experimental results indicate that all enamel coatings increase the corrosion resistance of pipeline steel,and pure enamel PE2,mixed enamels ME1 and ME2 have higher corrosion resistances than pure enamel PE1 and mixed enamel ME3. | Liang Fan Fujian Tang Signo T.
