Multi-area Generation-reserve Joint Dispatch Approach Considering Wind Power Cross-regional Accommodation显示文摘This paper presents a study on how to accommodate wind power into multiple regions, while simultaneously implementing economic and reliable dispatch for multi-area power system operation. The focus is on quantifying the operational risk brought by wind power uncertainty and at the same time accommodating wind power by coordinating multi-area generation and reserve resources. The reserve requirement of each area is calculated based on two indexes, namely, loss of load probability and wind spillage probability. Then,a generation-reserve cooptimization dispatch model that factors cross-regional wind power accommodation is proposed. The transmission margin and network security constraints of tie-lines are considered to systematically allocate reserve resources for all areas. Finally, optimality condition decomposition is used to decompose the dispatching model to achieve relatively independent regional scheduling, and to get the global optimization result. The reasonableness and effectiveness of the proposed approach is validated by a 6-bus 2-area test system and a 236-bus interconnected system. | Ming Zhou Mu Wang Jianfeng Li Gengyin Li | 2017 | CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2017,3,1: | 12
Coordinated Planning of Large-Scale Wind Farm Integration System and Transmission Network显示文摘Large-scale centralized exploitation of intermittent wind energy resources has become popular in many countries. However,as a result of the frequent occurrence of largescale wind curtailment, expansion of corresponding transmission projects has fallen behind the speed at which installed wind capacity can be developed. In this paper,a coordinated planning approach for a large-scale wind farm integration system and its related regional transmission network is proposed.A bilevel programming model is formulated with the objective of minimizing cost.To reach the global optimum of the bi-level model, this work proposes that the upper-level wind farm integration system planning problem needs to be solved jointly with the lower-level regional transmission planning problem. The bi-level model is expressed in terms of a linearized mathematical problem with equilibrium constraints(MPEC)by Karush-KuhnTucker conditions. It is then solved using mixed integer linear programming solvers.Numerical simulations are conducted to show the validity of the proposed coordinated planning method. | Lei Gan Gengyin Li Ming Zhou | 2016 | CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2016,2,1: | 9
Role of optimal transmission switching in accommodating renewable energy in deep peak regulation-enabled power systems显示文摘Due to the shortage of fossil energy and the pollution caused by combustion of fossil fuels, the proportion of renewable energy in power systems is gradually increasing across the world.Accordingly, the capacity of power systems to accommodate renewable energy must be improved. However, integration of a large amount of renewable energy into power grids may result in network congestion.Hence,in this study, optimal transmission switching(OTS)is considered as an important method of accommodating renewable energy. It is incorporated into the operation of a power grid along with deep peak regulation of thermal power units, forming an interactive mode of coordinated operation of source and network.A stochastic unit commitment model consider!ng deep peak regulation and OTS is established, and the role of OTS in promoting the accommodation of renewable energy is analyzed quantitatively. The results of case studies involving the IEEE 30-bus system demonstrate that OTS can enable utilization of the potential of deep peak regulation and facilitate the accommodation of renewable energy. | Qi An Jianxiao Wang Gengyin Li Ming Zhou | 2020 | Global Energy Interconnection2020,3,6: | 5
Power System Transient Stability Analysis with Integration of DFIGs Based on Center of Inertia显示文摘As power systems experience increased wind penetration,an effective analysis and assessment of the influence of wind energy on power system transient stability is required. This paper presents a novel center of inertia(COI)approach to understand how integrated doubly fed induction generators(DFIGs)affect the transient dynamics of a power system.Under the COI coordinate, the influence of integrated DFIGs is separated into the COI related and individual synchronous generator related parts.Key factors that affect the COI’s dynamic motion as well as the rotor dynamics of each individual synchronous generator with respect to the DFIG integration are investigated. To further validate the analysis, comparative simulations of three different scenarios with varying DFIG capacities, access locations, and the replacement of synchronous generators are conducted. The results show that the dynamics of the COI and the individual generators are affected by the integrated DFIGs via different mechanisms, and are sensitive to different variables in the DFIG’s integration condition. | Siwei Liu Gengyin Li Ming Zhou | 2016 | CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2016,2,2: | 5
Generation-expansion planning with linearized primary frequency response constraints显示文摘As renewable energy resources increasingly penetrate the electric grid, the inertia capability of power systems has become a developmental bottleneck.Nevertheless, the importance of primary frequency response(PFR)when making generation-expansion plans has been largely ignored. In this paper,we propose an optimal generation-expansion planning framework for wind and thermal power plants that takes PFR into account. The model is based on the frequency equivalent model. It includes investment,startup/shutdown,and typical operating costs for both thermal and renewable generators. The linearization constraints of PFR are derived theoretically.Case studies based on the modified IEEE 39-bus system demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed method.Compared with methods that ignore PFR,the method proposed in this paper can effectively reduce the cost of the entire planning and operation cycle, improving the accommodation rate of renewable energy. | Zihan Wang Jianxiao Wang Gengyin Li Ming Zhou | 2020 | Global Energy Interconnection2020,3,4: | 4
Constructing a V2G-enabled Regional Energy Internet for Cost-efficient Carbon Trading显示文摘The increasing penetration of plug-in electric ve- hicles (PEVs) has highlighted the importance of coordinating ubiquitous distributed energy resources (DERs) via the internet of things (IoT).With the help of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, PEVs can be aggregated to behave as a storage system, yielding both economic and environmental benefits. In this paper, we propose an optimal bidding framework for a V2G-enabled re- gional energy internet (REI) to participate in day-ahead markets considering carbon trading. The REI operator aims to maximize the net profits from day-ahead markets while anticipating real- time adjustments. A detailed battery model is developed to depict the charging and discharging capability of V2G-enabled PEVs. A two-stage stochastic optimization model is formulated to schedule the operation of PEV fleets against various sources of uncertainties, e.g., the arrival and departure time of PEVs, solar power and real-time prices. Case studies undertaken based on realistic datasets demonstrate that the coordination of the V2G- enabled PEVs and other DERs can facilitate the accommodation of renewable energy, thus improving the REI’s revenues in energy and carbon markets. | Jianxiao Wang Zhaoyuan Wu Ershun Du Ming Zhou Gengyin Li Yining Zhang Le Yu | 2020 | CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2020,6,1: | 4
Soft Open Point Planning in Renewable-dominated Distribution Grids with Building Thermal Storage显示文摘With an increasing integration of intermittent distributed energy resources(DERs),the consequent voltage excursion and thermal overloading issues limit the self-sufficiency of distribution networks(DNs).The concept of soft open point(SOP)has been proposed as a promising solution to improve the hosting capacity of DNs.In this paper, considering the ability of building thermal storage(BTS)to increase the penetration of renewable energy in DNs,we provide an optimal planning framework for SOP and DER.The optimal planning model is aimed at minimizing the investment and operational costs while respecting various constraints, including the self-sufficiency requirement of the DN,SOP,building thermal storage capacity and DER operations, etc.A steady-state SOP model is formulated and linearized to be incorporated into the planning framework. To make full use of the BTS flexibility provided by ubiquitous buildings,a differential equation model for building thermal dynamics is formulated.A hybrid stochastic/robust optimization approach is adopted to depict the uncertainties in renewable energy and market prices.IEEE 33-bus feeder and a realistic DN in the metropolitan area of Caracas are tested to validate the effectiveness of the proposed framework and method.Case studies show that SOP/BTS plays a complementary and coordinated coupling role in the thermo-electric system, thereby effectively improving the hosting capacity and self-sufficiency of DNs. | Tiance Zhang Jianxiao Wang Haiwang Zhong Gengyin Li Ming Zhou Dejie Zhao | 2023 | CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2023,9,1: | 3
Model and application of renewable energy accommodation capacity calculation considering utilization level of inter-provincial tie-line显示文摘At present, the problem of abandoning wind and PV power in “Three North” region of China is particularly significant, and how to alleviate this problem has become the focus of universal attention. Calculation of renewable energy accommodation capacity is the basis to solve the problem of abandoning wind and PV power. Main problems of Chinese renewable energy accommodation is analyzed from power supply, power grid and load side aspects, and it focuses on the effect of inter-provincial tie-line to renewable energy accommodation capacity. At present, the inter-provincial tie-line utilization level is limited, which affected renewable energy accommodation to a certain extent. Based on the sequential production simulation model, a new kind of renewable energy accommodation capacity model is put forward considering the utilization level of inter-provincial tie-line. According to different system stability constraints and different electricity constraints of inter-provincial tie-line, 4 schemes are designed for comparative analysis, and the evaluation model is used to calculate renewable energy accommodation capacity of “Three North” region of China in 2020. Example analysis results verify validity of the model that releasing curve constraints, electricity constraints and stability constraints in turn can significantly enhance renewable energy accommodation capacity through effective use of inter-provincial tie-line transmission capacity. Research work in this paper can provide strong support for the planning and scheduling control of power grid. | Guodong Li Gengyin Li Ming Zhou | 2019 | Protection and Control of Modern Power Systems2019,4,1: | 2
Comprehensive evaluation model of wind power accommodation ability based on macroscopic and microscopic indicators显示文摘This article explores and establishes comprehensive evaluation index system of wind power accommodation ability considering microscopic index and macroscopic index, and the index system includes conventional evaluation indexes such as forecast deviation, simultaneity factor and anti-peak rate, also newly introduced evaluation indexes such as installed capacity, power adequacy and accommodation space. Bayesian weight modified method is used for solving index weights of 8 wind power accommodation indexes. The paper puts forward a comprehensive evaluation model of wind power accommodation ability based on improved radar chart method, and this model changes traditional radar chart fan-shaped sector to quadrilateral evaluation region, and increasing angle bisector can solve the problem that evaluation results are not unique. It constructs new area and perimeter vectors of radar chart, which make the evaluation results give consideration to level of aggregation and balance degree of evaluation objectives, and case study results show that this model has a certain practical value. | Gengyin Li Guodong Li Ming Zhou | 2019 | Protection and Control of Modern Power Systems2019,4,1: | 2

On the Consistency of Renewable-to-Hydrogen Pricing显示文摘With the proposal of carbon neutrality goals and hydrogen energy development strategies in various countries, the development and construction of hydrogen supply chains have become important priorities. However, existing research has paid little attention to the hydrogen market and pricing. Therefore,a hydrogen pricing method based on marginal pricing theory is proposed in this paper, which adapts to hydrogen systems with renewable-to-hydrogen as a major source,in the future.A hydrogen energy market is established to define the industrial chain of hydrogen and the hydrogen trading process. The hydrogen market-clearing model is formulated considering a dynamic line pack.Due to its nonconvexity, the model is equivalently converted into mixed-integer second-order cone programming, and the optimality gap is minimized by introducing a penalty term.Based on the clearing solution, the concept and calculation method of the locational marginal hydrogen price(LMHP)are proposed with respect to the locational marginal price(LMP)in electricity markets.Case studies based on a modified Belgium 20-node gas network and Pennsylvania,New Jersey, and Maryland(PJM)market operation data demonstrate the consistency between LMHP and LMP. | Litao Zheng Jianxiao Wang Yang Yu Gengyin Li Ming Zhou Qing Xia Guizhi Xu | 2022 | CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2022,8,2: | 1
Sharing Economy in Local Energy Markets显示文摘With an increase in the electrification of end-use sectors, various resources on the demand side provide great flexibility potential for system operation, which also leads to problems such as the strong randomness of power consumption behavior, the low utilization rate of flexible resources, and difficulties in cost recovery. With the core idea of“access over ownership”,the concept of the sharing economy has gained substantial popularity in the local energy market in recent years. Thus,we provide an overview of the potential market design for the sharing economy in local energy markets(LEMs)and conduct a detailed review of research related to local energy sharing, enabling technologies, and potential practices. This paper can provide a useful reference and insights for the activation of demand-side flexibility potential.Hopefully, this paper can also provide novel insights into the development and further integration of the sharing economy in LEMs. | Zhaoyuan Wu Jianxiao Wang Haiwang Zhong Feng Gao Tianjiao Pu Chin-Woo Tan Xiupeng Chen Gengyin Li Huiru Zhao Ming Zhou Qing Xia | 2023 | Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy2023,11,3: | 1
