1Effects of chronic exposure to nonylphenol on locomotor activity and social behavior in zebrafish(Danio rerio)显示文摘Nonylphenol(NP),a xenoestrogen ubiquitously found in aquatic ecosystems,is of high environmental concern.The present work assessed the effects of exposure to NP on locomotor activity and social behavior in male and female zebrafish(Danio rerio),to evaluate the possible hazard of NP to fish behavior and to pursue a potential biomarker of NP contamination.Fish were randomly divided into six groups.Five groups were receiving 0.1,1,10,50 and 100 μg/L nominal concentrations of NP for 60 days,respectively.A sixth control group was given the same treatment as the other five groups,but no NP.Locomotor activity,aggressive behavior,group preference and leaving shoal were examined.NP exposure showed marked influence on locomotor activity of the male zebrafish,whereas that of the female was not significantly affected by NP.Aggressive behavior and group preference were significantly affected by NP exposure in both male and female groups.Locomotor activity and aggressive behavior of the male and group preference of both male and female zebrafish were clearly inhibited at 100 μg/L NP.No significant alteration in leaving shoal was observed under NP exposure.The results suggested that changes in locomotor activity and aggressive behavior of the male and group preference of both male and female may be used as an ecologically relevant integrative biomarker of NP contamination.Jigang Xia,Cuijuan Niu ,Xuejiao Pei Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Biodiversity Science and Ecological Engineering,College of Life Sciences,Beijing Normal University,100875 Beijing,China. 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,9:13
2Increased Tim-3 expression alleviates liver injury by regulating macrophage activation in MCD-induced NASH mice显示文摘As an immune checkpoint,Tim-3 plays roles in the regulation of both adaptive and innate immune cells including macrophages and is greatly involved in chronic liver diseases.However,the precise roles of Tim-3 in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)remain unstated.In the current study,we analyzed Tim-3 expression on different subpopulations of liver macrophages and further investigated the potential roles of Tim-3 on hepatic macrophages in methionine and choline-deficient diet(MCD)-induced NASH mice.The results of flow cytometry demonstrated the significantly increased expression of Tim-3 on all detected liver macrophage subsets in MCD mice,including F4/80^(+)CD11b^(+),F4/80^(+)CD68^(+),and F4/80^(+)CD169^(+)macrophages.Remarkably,Tim-3 knockout(KO)significantly accelerated MCD-induced liver steatosis,displaying higher serum ALT,larger hepatic vacuolation,more liver lipid deposition,and more severe liver fibrosis.Moreover,compared with wild-type C57BL/6 mice,Tim-3 KO MCD mice demonstrated an enhanced expression of NOX2,NLRP3,and caspase-1 p20 together with increased generation of IL-1βand IL-18 in livers.In vitro studies demonstrated that Tim-3 negatively regulated the production of reactive oxygen species(ROS)and related downstream pro-inflammatory cytokine secretion of IL-1βand IL-18 in macrophages.Exogenous administration of N-Acetyl-L-cysteine(NAC),a small molecular inhibitor of ROS,remarkably suppressed caspase-1 p20 expression and IL-1βand IL-18 production in livers of Tim-3 KO mice,thus significantly reducing the severity of steatohepatitis induced by MCD.In conclusion,Tim-3 is a promising protector in MCD-induced steatohepatitis by controlling ROS and the associated pro-inflammatory cytokine production in macrophages.Xianhong Du Zhuanchang Wu Yong Xu Yuan Liu Wen Liu Tixiao Wang Chunyang Li Cuijuan Zhang Fan Yi Lifen Gao Xiaohong Liang Chunhong Ma 2019Cellular & Molecular Immunology2019,16,11:9

5Highly nitrogen and sulfur dual-doped carbon microspheres for supercapacitors显示文摘Heteroatom doping, especially dual-doped carbon materials have attracted much attention for the past few years, and have been regarded as one of the most efficient strategies to enhance the capacitance behavior of porous carbon materials. In this work, a facile two-step synthetic route was developed to fabricate nitrogen and sulfur co-doped carbon microsphere(NSCM) by using thiourea as dopant. The N/S doping content is controlled via varying the carbonization temperature. It has been proved that a suitable quantity of N and S groups could not only provide pseudo-capacitance but also promote the electron transfer for carbon materials, which ensures the further utilization of the exposed surfaces for charge storage. The optimized NSCM prepared at a carbonization temperature of 800 °C(NSCM-800) achieves a capacitance of 277.1 Fg^(-1)at a current density of 0.3 Ag^(-1)in 6.0 mol L^(-1)KOH electrolyte, which is71% higher than that of undoped carbon microsphere. 6Sensitivity of the Arctic sea ice concentration forecasts to different atmospheric forcing: a case study显示文摘A regional Arctic configuration of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology general circulation model(MITgcm) is used as the coupled ice-ocean model for forecasting sea ice conditions in the Arctic Ocean at the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center of China(NMEFC), and the numerical weather prediction from the National Center for Environmental Prediction Global Forecast System(NCEP GFS) is used as the atmospheric forcing. To improve the sea ice forecasting, a recently developed Polar Weather Research and Forecasting model(Polar WRF) model prediction is also tested as the atmospheric forcing. Their forecasting performances are evaluated with two different satellite-derived sea ice concentration products as initializations:(1) the Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder(SSMIS) and(2) the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer for EOS(AMSR-E). Three synoptic cases, which represent the typical atmospheric circulations over the Arctic Ocean in summer 2010, are selected to carry out the Arctic sea ice numerical forecasting experiments. 7Effects of acute cold exposure on oxidative balance and total antioxidant capacity in juvenile Chinese soft-shelled turtle,Pelodiscus sinensis显示文摘Acute cold exposure may disturb the physiological homeostasis of the body in ectotherms.To date,there has been no information on the effects of cold exposure on homeostasis of reactive oxygen species(ROS)or antioxidant defense response in the Chinese soft-shelled turtle,Pelodiscus sinensis.In this study,P.sinensis juveniles were acclimated at 28℃,transferred to 8℃ as cold exposure for 12 h,then moved back to 28℃ rewarming for 24 h.We measured the ROS level and total antioxidant capacity(TAC)in the brain,liver,kidney and spleen at 2 and 12 h cold exposure,and at the end of the rewarming period.Malonaldehyde(MDA)and carbonyl protein were used as markers of oxidative damage.Turtles being maintained simultaneously at 28℃ were used as the control group.Cold exposure did not disturb the ROS balance in all 4 tissues,while rewarming raised the ROS level in the brain and kidney of P.sinensis.Cold exposure and rewarming decreased the TAC in the brain,liver and spleen but did not change the TAC in the kidney.MDA and carbonyl protein levels did not increase during the treatment,indicating no oxidative damage in all 4 tissues of P.sinensis.Our results indicated that extreme cold exposure did not impact the inner oxidative balance of P.sinensis,but more ROS was produced during rewarming.P.sinensis showed good tolerance to the harsh temperature change through effective protection of its antioxidant defense system to oxidative damage.This study provides basic data on the stress biology of P.sinensis.Wenyi ZHANG Cuijuan NIU Hui JIA Xutong CHEN 2017Integrative Zoology2017,12,5:3
8Enlarged perivascular spaces and lacunar infarction Cerebral magnetic resonance evaluation显示文摘BACKGROUND: Previous studies have demonstrated that enlarged perivascular spaces (EPVS) are a result of microvascular disease. To date, there are few reports about the relationship between EPVS and lacunar infarction. OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether EPVS is associated with lacunar infarction on the basis of cerebral magnetic resonance (MR) examination, clinical symptoms and signs, and past medical history of patients. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Case contrast analysis was performed at the Department of Neurology, Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital from January 2007 to January 2008. PARTICIPANTS: Sixty-eight patients with lacunar infarction were admitted to the Department of Neurology of Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital, including 37 cases with first-ever infarction, and 31 with infarction recurrence. In addition, 53 healthy people were selected as controls. METHODS: All participants underwent past medical history investigation, nervous system examination, and cranial MR. The subjects were assessed using the JMW rating scale to identify the EPVS grade. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: EPVS scores of patients and controls; risk factors for cerebral vascular disease in patients with first-ever or recurrence of lacunar infarction. RESULTS: The EPVS grade from lacunar infarction patients was significantly higher than of the control group (P < 0.05). The EPVS grade in patients with recurring lacunar infarction was significantly higher than in patients with first-ever infarction (P < 0.05). In addition, hypertension incidence in patients with recurring lacunar infarction was significantly higher than in patients with first-ever infarction (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Results indicate that EPVS is related to the incidence of lacunar infarction. 9Anticorrosion Coatings from Poly(Aniline-co-2-Ethylaniline) Micro/Nanostructures显示文摘PANI copolymer micro/nanostructures with different surface wettability were obtained from the chemical oxidation copolymerization of aniline(Ani)with 2-ethyl aniline(EA)at diverse[EA]/[Ani+EA]molar ratios,by employing ammonium persulfate as an oxidant.The results revealed that the poly(aniline-co-2-ethyl aniline)(PANI-EA)copolymer micro/nanostructures exhibited satisfactory anticorrosion performance for carbon steel,and the corrosion protection efficiency increased with the increase of water repellent property.Poly(2-ethyl aniline)(PEA)showed the largest contact angle(CA=145°)and show the best corrosion protection for the carbon steel(h=87.29%).It is found that the superior anticorrosion property of PEA is attributed to its high hydrophobicity,low conductivity and low porosity.XING Cuijuan SONG Xinling ZHANG Zhiming JIANG Xiaohui YU Liangmin 2019Journal of Ocean University of China2019,18,6:2
10Acclimatory responses to high-salt stress in Chlamydomonas (Chlorophyta, Chlorophyceae) from Antarctica显示文摘Antarctic ice microalga can survive and thrive in channels or pores containing high salinity in Antarctic ice layer. In this study, it was found that cell membrane permeability of green microalga Chlamydomonas sp. L4 from Antarctic sea ice was high in cells treated with hypersalinity due to the induction of active oxygen and radicals. However, increased super oxide dismutase (SOD) scavenged harmful free radicals effectively to keep cell membrane integrity. Also, the analysis of membrane fatty acids demonstrated the content of saturated fatty acids and monounsaturated fatty acids increased and polyunsaturated fatty acids decreased under the high-salt treatment for 14 d, which effectively reduced the membrane fluidity and minimized the injury to cell membrane. The morpho- logical changes showed that hypersalinity induced the increase of cell volume and the consumption of starch granules. However, because of the increase in detoxification of vacuoles, electron-dense deposits and SOD activity under high-salt stress, the complete noninterference thylakoids, mitochondria and cell nucleus maintained cellular fundamental metabolism. Global-expression profiling of proteins showed eight protein spots disappeared, 18 protein spots decreased and 18 protein spots were enhanced after the high-salt shock obviously (P <0.05). One new peptide (pI 6.90; MW 51 kDa) was primarily confirmed as the processor of light reaction center protein CP43 in photosystem II, which increased photosynthesis ability of Chlamydomonas sp. 11Sensitivity and nonlinearity of Eurasian winter temperature response to recent Arctic sea ice loss显示文摘The recent decline in the Arctic sea ice has coincided with more cold winters in Eurasia.It has been hypothesized that the Arctic sea ice loss is causing more mid-latitude cold extremes and cold winters,yet there is lack of consensus in modeling studies on the impact of Arctic sea ice loss.Here we conducted modeling experiments with Community Atmosphere Model Version 5(CAM5) to investigate the sensitivity and linearity of Eurasian winter temperature response to the Atlantic sector and Pacific sector of the Arctic sea ice loss.Our experiments indicate that the Arctic sea ice reduction can significantly affect the atmospheric circulation by strengthening the Siberian High,exciting the stationary Rossby wave train,and weakening the polar jet stream,which in turn induce the cooling in Eurasia.The temperature decreases by more than 1°C in response to the ice loss in the Atlantic sector and the cooling is less and more shifts southward in response to the ice loss in the Pacific sector.More interestingly,sea ice loss in the Atlantic and Pacific sectors together barely induces cold temperatures in Eurasia,suggesting the nonlinearity of the atmospheric response to the Arctic sea ice loss.SUI Cuijuan ZHANG Zhanhai YU Lejiang LI Yi SONG Mirong 2017Acta Oceanologica Sinica2017,36,8:2

15Changes of proteins in the Antarctic ice microalga Chlamydomonas sp. cultured under UV-B radiation stress显示文摘Antarctic ice microalga Chlamydomonas sp. can thrive undisturbed under high UV radiation in the Antarctic ice layer. However, it is unknown that the initial adaptation mechanisms in protein level occurring in response to high UV radiation. Global-expression profiling of proteins in response to stress was analyzed by two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE) and image analysis. In the 2-DE analysis, protein preparation is the key step. Three different protein extract methods were compared, and the results showed that the trichloroacetic acid (TCA)-acetone fractional precipitation method was the fittest one. At the same time, the proteins in Chlamydomonas sp. were compared in 2-DE way, and the synthesis of seven protein spots was found disappeared and 18 decreased after exposed to UV-B radiation. In addition, 14 protein spots were enhanced or induced, among which two new peptides (20 and 21 kDa) appeared whose isoelectric point (pI) was 7.05 and 4.60 respectively. 17Ultrafine molybdenum carbide nanoparticles supported on nitrogen doped carbon nanosheets for hydrogen evolution reaction显示文摘Molybdenum carbides(Mo_xC)/nitrogen doped carbon nanosheets(NCS) composites are synthesized via simple mixing melamine and ammonia molybdate, followed by a high-temperature treatment. Metal carbide nanoparticles with ultra-small size(13nm) are uniformly supported on nitrogen doped carbon nanosheets. The hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) is investigated in both 0.5 mol/L H_2SO_4 and 1 mol/L KOH media. Mo_2C/NCS-10(melamine/ammonia molybdate weight ratio of 10:1) exhibits excellent performance with a low overpotential of 130 mV in 0.5 mol/L H_2SO_4 solution and 108 mVin 1mol/L KOH solution at the current density of 10 mA/cm^2.
