| 3 | Distribution of polybrominated diphenyl ethers and decabromodiphenylethane in surface sediments from Fuhe River and Baiyangdian Lake,North China显示文摘Nineteen surface sediment samples collected from Baiyangdian Lake and its inflowing river (Fuhe River) in North China were analyzed for polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and decabromodiphenylethane (DBDPE).The concentrations of PBDEs and DBDPE in sediments ranged from 5.5 to 300.7 ng/g dry weight (dw) and 1.1 to 68.2 ng/g dw,respectively.Their levels in sediments in Fuhe River were significantly higher than those in Baiyandian Lake.Compared to data from other regions,the PBDE levels in surface sediments from Baiyangdian Lake and Fuhe River were in the medium to lower range.Among the PBDE congeners,BDE209 was predominant,with contributions to the total PBDEs ranging from 79.4% to 97.3% in sediment samples.For the lowly brominated congeners (tri-to hepta-BDE),BDE47 and BDE99 were the most abundant,which contributed 52.1% and 44.1% to the sum of tri-to hepta-BDEs in the sediments from Baiyangdian Lake and Fuhe River,respectively.The compositional patterns of PBDEs in Baiyangdian Lake sediments indicated that technical deca-BDE mixture was the major pollutant sources with a minor contribution of penta-BDE mixture.The present study suggested that the importance of Fuhe River as a possibly potential sources of PBDEs contamination in Baiyangdian Lake. | Guocheng Hu Zhencheng Xu Jiayin Dai Bixian Mai Hong Cao Jianshe Wang Zhimin Shi Muqi Xu | 2010 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,12: | 18 |
| 4 | Functional traits of tree species with phylogenetic signal co-vary with environmental niches in two large forest dynamics plots显示文摘Aims While using phylogenetic and functional approaches to test the mechanisms of community assembly,functional traits often act as the proxy of niches.However,there is little detailed knowledge regarding the correlation between functional traits of tree species and their niches in local communities.We suggest that the co-varying correlation between functional traits and niches should be the premise for using phylogenetic and functional approaches to test mechanisms of community assembly.Using functional traits,phylogenetic and environmental data,this study aims to answer the questions:(i)within local communities,do functional traits of co-occurring species covary with their environmental niches at the species level?and(ii)what is the key ecological process underlying community assembly in Xishuangbanna and Ailaoshan forest dynamic plots(FDPs)?Methods We measured seven functional traits of 229 and 36 common species in Xishuangbanna and Ailaoshan FDPs in tropical and subtropical China,respectively.We also quantified the environmental niches for these species based on conditional probability.We then analyzed the correlations between functional traits and environmental niches using phylogenetic independent contrasts.After examining phylogenetic signals of functional traits using Pagel’sλ,we quantified the phylogenetic and functional dispersion along environmental gradients within local tree communities.Important Findings For target species,functional traits do co-vary with environmental niches at the species level in both of the FDPs,supporting that functional traits can be used as a proxy for local-scale environmental niches.Functional traits show significant phylogenetic signals in both of the FDPs.We found that the phylogenetic and functional dispersion were significantly clustered along topographical gradients in the Ailaoshan FDP but overdispersion in the Xishuangbanna FDP.These patterns of phylogenetic and functional dispersion suggest that environmental filtering plays a key role in structuring local tree assemblages in Ailaoshan FDP,while competition exclusion plays a key role in Xishuangbanna FDP. | Jie Yang Xiuqin Ci Mengmeng Lu Guocheng Zhang Min Cao Jie Li Luxiang Lin | 2014 | Journal of Plant Ecology2014,7,2: | 16 |
| 5 | Advances in photocatalytic disinfection of bacteria:Development of photocatalysts and mechanisms显示文摘Photocatalysis has attracted worldwide attention due to its potential in solar energy conversion.As a 'green' advanced oxidation technology, it has been extensively used for water disinfection and wastewater treatment. This article provides a review of the recent progress in solar energy-induced photocatalytic disinfection of bacteria, focusing on the development of highly efficient photocatalysts and their underlying mechanisms in bacterial inactivation. The photocatalysts are classified into Ti O2-based and non-Ti O2-based systems, as Ti O2 is the most investigated photocatalyst. The synthesis methods, modification strategies, bacterial disinfection activities and mechanisms of different types of photocatalysts are reviewed in detail.Emphasis is given to the modified Ti O2, including noble metal deposition, non-metal doping,dye sensitization and composite Ti O2, along with typical non-Ti O2-based photocatalysts for bacterial disinfection, including metal oxides, sulfides, bismuth metallates, graphene-based photocatalysts, carbon nitride-based photocatalysts and natural photocatalysts. A simple and versatile methodology by using a partition system combined with scavenging study is introduced to study the photocatalytic disinfection mechanisms in different photocatalytic systems. | 6 | ^(10)Be dating of boulders on moraines from the last glacial period in the Nyainqentanglha mountains,Tibet显示文摘Chronologies of glacial advances during the last glacial period in the Nyainqentanglha mountain range may provide constraints on the past climate in a transition zone of the Asian monsoon.We present 15 new10Be exposure ages from two moraines in the Payuwang valley,on the north slope of the range.The inner moraine has exposure ages ranging from 18.0±1.7 to 30.6±2.8 ka(n=10),with a mean age of 23.8±4.0 ka,corresponding to the global Last Glacial Maximum(LGM).The outer moraine yields exposure ages ranging from 18.0±1.6 to 39.9±3.7 ka(n=5).Evidence for weathering leads us to view the oldest age as a minimum age,placing moraine formation during MIS3.Chronologies from the last glacial period from south slope of the Nyainqentanglha support this interpretation.Thus,there appears to have been a local LGM(LLGM)during MIS3 and a more limited glacial advance during the global LGM.Glacial advances during MIS3 in the Nyainqentanglha may correlate with millennial-scale climate change(Heinrich events). | DONG GuoCheng YI ChaoLu Marc CAFFEE | 2014 | Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,2: | 10 |
| 7 | Generalized gradient projection neural networks for nonsmooth optimization problems显示文摘Generalized gradient projection neural network models are proposed to solve nonsmooth convex and nonconvex nonlinear programming problems over a closed convex subset of R n . By using Clarke’s generalized gradient, the neural network modeled by a differential inclusion is developed, and its dynamical behavior and optimization capabilities both for convex and nonconvex problems are rigorously analyzed in the framework of nonsmooth analysis and the differential inclusion theory. First for nonconvex optimization problems, the quasi convergence results similar to those achieved by previous work are proved. For convex optimization problems, the global convergence results are proved, i.e. any trajectory of the neural network converges to an asymptotically stable equilibrium point, which is an optimal solution of the primal problem whenever it exists. This result remains valid even if the initial condition is chosen outside the feasible set. In addition, an asymptotic control result involving a Tykhonov like regularization shows that any trajectory of the revised neural network can be forced to converge toward a particular optimal solution of the primal problem. | 9 | Characterization and Fine Mapping of a Novel Rice Narrow Leaf Mutant nal9显示文摘A narrow leaf mutant was isolated from transgenic rice(Oryza sativa L.)lines carrying a T-DNA insertion.The mutant is characterized by narrow leaves during its whole growth period,and was named nal9(narrow leaf 9).The mutant also has other phenotypes,such as light green leaves at the seedling stage,reduced plant height,a small panicle and increased tillering.Genetic analysis revealed that the mutation is controlled by a single recessive gene.A hygromycin resistance assay showed that the mutation was not caused by T-DNA insertion,so a map-based cloning strategy was employed to isolate the nal9 gene.The mutant individuals from the F2generations of a cross between the nal9 mutant and Longtepu were used for mapping.With 24 F2mutants,the nal9 gene was preliminarily mapped near the marker RM156 on the chromosome 3.New INDEL markers were then designed based on the sequence differences between japonica and indica at the region near RM156.The nal9 gene was fnally located in a 69.3 kb region between the markers V239B and V239G within BAC OJ1212_C05 by chromosome walking.Sequence and expression analysis showed that an ATP-dependent Clp protease proteolytic subunit gene(ClpP)was most likely to be the nal9 gene.Furthermore,the nal9 mutation was rescued by transformation of the ClpP cDNA driven by the 35S promoter.Accordingly,the ClpP gene was identifed as the NAL9 gene.Our results provide a basis for functional studies of NAL9 in future work. | Wei Li Chao Wu Guocheng Hu Li Xing Wenjing Qian Huamin Si Zongxiu Sun Xingchun Wang Yaping Fu Wenzhen Liu | 2013 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2013,55,11: | 8 |

| 13 | Microbial and molecular fossils from the Permian Zoophycos in South China显示文摘The trace fossil Zoophycos was enriched in the lower part of the Guadalupian Maokou Formation of Permian in Laibin, Guangxi of South China, and characterized by observable lamellae within its spreiten. Associated with these lamellae are the prolific coccus- and spirillum-shaped microbe fossils. These microbes morphologically identified are 0.4―3.0 μm in diameter or length. Molecular fossils, including normal alkanes (dominated by C18, without an odd-over-even predominance), acyclic isoprenoids (such as pristane (Pr) and phytane (Ph)), extended tricyclic terpanes, pentacyclic triterpanes, steranes, al-kylcyclohexanes, dibenzothiophenes, benzonaphthothiophenes, benzobisbenzothiophenes, were in-strumentally identified in the wackestone characterized by the occurrence of abundant Zoophycos (composite ichnofabric indices are 4) and crowded microbial fossils. The value of the Pr/Ph ratio is less than 1, indicative of a dysoxic condition. The identification of abundant sulfur compounds (the thio-phene series) related to the contribution of reductive sulfur favors the occurrence of sulphate-reducing bacteria. The association of abundant microbial colonies with microbial molecular fossils within the spreiten suggests that trace fossils Zoophycos would be a multifunctional garden carefully constructed by the Zoophycos-producer, where different microbial colonies were orderly and carefully planted and cultured in different minor lamellae within spreiten. | 16 | Dynamic control on grain-size distribution of terrigenous sediments in the western South China Sea:Implication for East Asian monsoon evolution显示文摘High-resolution oxygen isotope stratigraphy of Core MD05-2901, which is located off eastern Vietnam in the western South China Sea (SCS), was established and indicated that the core spans a time period of the past 450 ka. Based on the bulk density, fractional porosity and lithogenic content of the sedi-ments, terrigenous mass accumulation rate (TMAR) was obtained, which is 4.9―6.0 g cm?2 ka?1 on average during interglacial stages, higher than that during glacial stages, i.e. 1.9―5.0 g cm-2 ka-1, which is different from northern and southern SCS which show higher TMAR in glacial stages. By principle component analysis of grain size distribution of all the samples, two main control factors (F1 and F2) were obtained, which are responsible for about 80% variance of granularity. The contents of grain size population 1.26―2.66 μm% and 10.8―14.3 μm% which are sensible to F1 show high-frequency fluctuation, and correlate well with the summer insolation at 15oN. They exhibit a dis-tinct cyclicity with frequencies near 23 ka and 13 ka, in contrast to a strong frequency peak near 100 ka obtained in proxies 4.24―7.42 μm% and 30.1―43.7 μm% controlled mainly by F2. The sedimentary character of this part of the SCS was controlled by variations of input flux from two main source areas, namely the southwest and north SCS, which were transported by different circulations of surface current forced by East Asian summer monsoon and winter monsoon respectively. | 17 | A comparative study on different regeneration processes of Pt-Sn/γ-Al2O3 catalysts for propane dehydrogenation显示文摘Three different regeneration processes including hydrogen or nitrogen purging and coke-burning treatment were used to restore the Pt-Sn/γ-Al_2O_3 catalysts, through which propane dehydrogenation reaction was performed in a consecutive reaction-regeneration mode. It was found that the catalyst using hydrogen regeneration showed the best stability compared with those regenerated by nitrogen purging and coke-burning treatment, suggesting that hydrogen regeneration is an effective approach for maintaining the performance of Pt-Sn/γ-Al_2O_3 catalysts in propane dehydrogenation reaction. The effect of different regeneration atmospheres on the metal active center and the coke deposition was investigated by XRD,TEM, N_2-physisorption, TPO, TG and Raman technologies, and the results revealed that hydrogen or nitrogen regeneration resulted in little impact on the size and structure of metal active center, retaining the effective Pt Sn phase over the catalyst. Moreover, hydrogen regeneration not only removed the low dense components of the coke, but also altered the property of the residual coke through hydrogenation, leading to a higher mobility of coke, and thus a higher accessibility of the metal active centers. Whereas nitrogen regeneration only removed the low dense components of the coke. | 19 | The role of China's terrestrial carbon sequestration 2010-2060 in offsetting energy-related CO_(2) emissions显示文摘Energy consumption dominates annual CO_(2) emissions in China.It is essential to significantly reduce CO_(2) emissions from energy consumption to reach national carbon neutrality by 2060,while the role of terrestrial carbon sequestration in offsetting energy-related CO_(2) emissions cannot be underestimated.Natural climate solutions(NCS),including improvements in terrestrial carbon sequestration,represent readily deployable options to offset anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions.However,the extent to which China’s terrestrial carbon sequestration in the future,especially when target-oriented managements(TOMs)are implemented,can help to mitigate energy-related CO_(2) emissions is far from certain.By synthesizing available findings and using several parameter-sparse empirical models that have been calibrated and/or fitted against contemporary measurements,we assessed China’s terrestrial carbon sequestration over 2010-2060 and its contribution to offsetting national energy-related CO_(2) emissions.We show that terrestrial C sequestration in China will increase from 0.375±0.056(mean±standard deviation)Pg C yr^(-1) in the 2010s to 0.458±0.100 Pg C yr^(-1)under RCP2.6 and 0.493±0.108 Pg C yr^(-1) under the RCP4.5 scenario in the 2050s,when TOMs are implemented.The majority of carbon sequestration comes from forest,accounting for 67.8-71.4%of the total amount.China’s terrestrial ecosystems can offset 12.2-15.0%and 13.4-17.8%of energy-related peak CO_(2) emissions in 2030 and 2060,respectively.The implementation of TOMs contributes 11.9%of the overall terrestrial carbon sequestration in the 2020s and 23.7%in the 2050s.The most likely strategy to maximize future NCS effectiveness is a full implementation of all applicable cost-effective NCS pathways in China.Our findings highlight the role of terrestrial carbon sequestration in offsetting energy-related CO_(2) emissions and put forward future needs in the context of carbon neutrality. | Yao Huang Wenjuan Sun Zhangcai Qin Wen Zhang Yongqiang Yu Tingting Li Qing Zhang Guocheng Wang Lingfei Yu Yijie Wang Fan Ding Ping Zhang | 2022 | National Science Review2022,9,8: | 4 |
| 20 | Disordered Translocation is Hastening Local Extinction of the Chinese Giant Salamander显示文摘Biodiversity is declining globally by an unprecedented extinction rate.This is especially true for amphibians,accounting for 24.3%of all threatened vertebrates.As the largest extant amphibian species in the world,wild populations of the Chinese giant salamander(Genus Andrias)(CGS)have decreased dramatically because of overexploitation and habitat degradation.Translocation has become an important strategy for restoring threatened wild populations worldwide.However,disordered tra nsloca tion usually has negative effects on the native populations.We provide an overview of CGS translocation and show that disordered translocation can increase local population extinction.Nearly four times the estimated number of wild individuals have been released across China.There a re three types of translocation used for CGS,namely,reinforcement,reintroduction and ecological replacement,the last of which accounts for over one-third of translocations.Our genetic screening revealed that most released individuals were not from local populations,with one to four lineages detected in every release site(n=6).This disordered translocation can potentially reduce the genetic integrity of original populations.Hence,we suggest suspending current CGS translocation activities immediately,until more robust measures can be developed and implemented to improve the current translocation program,especially with respect to lineage identifica tion a nd the identifica tion of appropriate release sites. | Guocheng SHU Ping LIU Tian ZHAO Cheng LI Yinmeng HOU Chunlin ZHAO Jie WANG Xiaoxiao SHU Jiang CHANG Jianping JIANG Feng XIE | 2021 | Asian Herpetological Research2021,12,3: | 4 |
