1Applications of Electrical Capacitance Tomography in Two Phase Flow Visualization显示文摘The successful application of Electrical Capacitance Tomography (ECT) depends heavily on the image reconstruction speed and quality. The two requirements usually cannot be satisfied simultaneously. Also, for a large number of acquired 2D ECT images, a 3D presentation of them is much desired to track the variations of the material distribution in a third dimension. To facilitate ECT for practical flow analyses in process engineering, the authors have recently developed algorithms for 3D image presentation and for online iterative image reconstruction that only takes the same time as a linear back projection method but yields good image qualities as the Landweber iterative method does. The new methods have been successfully applied to visualize several classes of two phase flows, namely fluidization, cyclone separation, circulating rate determination in circulating fluidized beds, pneumatic conveying, rotating drum mixing. 3Experimental Study on Measurement of Flame Temperature Distribution Using the Two-Color Method显示文摘A novel optical instrumentation system for flame characterization was developed and tested. The two-color system is capable of performing on-line measurement of flame and temperature distribution, providing temporal and spatial characterization of the combustion process. In addition, the system has the advantage of being non-intrusive. The on-line measurement of temperature distribution on a methane-air combustor revealed some interesting characteristics. When air flow rate was kept constant, an increase in CH4 flow rate would enhance the combustion intensity and elevate the flame temperature. While under constant CH4 flow rate, the increase of air flow rate would lead the measured flame temperature first to increase and then decrease. The drop of temperature might partially be caused by the heat losses due to excessive air. 4The air flow and heat transfer in gravel embankment in permafrost areas显示文摘A comparative numerical investigation of transient temperature profile and pore-air velocities in horizontal rock block embankments are conducted using the 'gravels model', in which the embankment is composed of stones and air, and the 'porous media model' respectively. As the velocities from the 'gravels model' directly reflect the true flow of air and winter-time convection, in this paper it can be concluded that computational results from the 'gravels model'are superior to the 'porous media model'. In addition, the 'gravels model' has the advantages of reflecting the effect of the dimensions and collocation of gravels upon the temperature fields.Therefore, the computation of the gravels embankment is mainly based on the gravels model.Simulation results show that in summer, a clockwise circulation of the pore-air extends throughout most of the embankment. However its motion is very weak that results in relatively straight horizontal isotherm lines. And heat transfer is mainly maintained through conduction. But in winter, the pore-air velocities are higher and multiple vortexes are formed in the embankment.Natural convection then becomes the dominant influence on the isotherm shapes within the embankment. The isotherms are complex and alternative upward and downward flowing plumes exist. The winter-time convection can further reduce the temperature of the foundation soil beneath the gravel embankment. In addition, the effects of the gravel dimensions within the embankment have been analyzed and compared in the gravels model. It shows that in winter, large stones, e.g. 200 mm, lead to stronger vortexes than those of small stones, say 60 mm. 5Expansion of the South China Sea basin:Constraints from magnetic anomaly stripes,sea floor topography,satellite gravity and submarine geothermics显示文摘The widely distributed E-W-trending magnetic anomaly stripes in the central basin and the N-Etrending magnetic anomaly stripes in the southwest sub-basin provide the most important evidence for Neogene expansion of the South China Sea.The expansion mechanism remains,however,controversial because of the lack of direct drilling data,non-systematic marine magnetic survey data,and irregular magnetic anomaly stripes with two obvious directions.For example,researchers have inferred different ages and episodes of expansion for the central basin and southwest sub-basin.Major controversy centers on the order of basinal expansion and the mechanism of expansion for the entire South China Sea basin.This study attempts to constrain these problems from a comprehensive analysis of the seafloor topography,magnetic anomaly stripes,regional aeromagnetic data,satellite gravity,and submarine geothermics.The mapped seafloor terrain shows that the central basin is a north-south rectangle that is relatively shallow with many seamounts,whereas the southwest sub-basin is wide in northeast,gradually narrows to the southwest,and is relatively deeper with fewer seamounts.Many magnetic anomaly stripes are present in the central basin with variable dimensions and directions that are dominantly EWtrending,followed by the NE-,NW- and NS-trending.Conversely such stripes are few in the southwest sub-basin and mainly NE-trending.Regional magnetic data suggest that the NW-trending Ailaoshan-Red River fault extends into the South China Sea,links with the central fault zone in the South China Sea,which extends further southward to Reed Tablemount.Satellite gravity data show that both the central basin and southwest sub-basin are composed of oceanic crust.The Changlong seamount is particularly visible in the southwest sub-basin and extends eastward to the Zhenbei seamount.Also a low gravity anomaly zone coincides with the central fault zone in the sub-basin.The submarine geothermic distribution demonstrates that the southwest sub-basin has a higher geothermal value than the central basin,and that the central fault zone is defined by a low thermal anomaly.This study suggests that NW-SE expansion of the southwest subbasin is later than the N-S expansion of the central basin with the sub-basin extending into the central basin and with both expansions ending at the same time.The expansion of southwestern sub-basin,similar to the Japanese Sea,is likely caused by left-lateral strike slip on the central fault zone in the South China Sea,which may have significance for finding oil and gas in this region.Xuezhong Yu Chunji Xue Haigang Shi Weiping Zhu Yinghui Liu Hang Yin 2017Geoscience Frontiers2017,8,1:3
6Perfectly Matched Layer for an Elastic Parabolic Equation Model in Ocean Acoustics显示文摘The perfectly matched layer(PML) is an effective technique for truncating unbounded domains with minimal spurious reflections. A fluid parabolic equation(PE) model applying PML technique was previously used to analyze the sound propagation problem in a range-dependent waveguide(Lu and Zhu, 2007). However, Lu and Zhu only considered a standard fluid PE to demonstrate the capability of the PML and did not take improved one-way models into consideration. They applied a [1/1] Padé approximant to the parabolic equation. The higher-order PEs are more accurate than standard ones when a very large angle propagation is considered. As for range-dependent problems, the techniques to handle the vertical interface between adjacent regions are mainly energy conserving and single-scattering. In this paper, the PML technique is generalized to the higher order elastic PE, as is to the higher order fluid PE. The correction of energy conserving is used in range-dependent waveguides. Simulation is made in both acoustic cases and seismo-acoustic cases. Range-independent and range-dependent waveguides are both adopted to test the accuracy and efficiency of this method. 8Inversion of oceanic chlorophyll concentrations by neural networks显示文摘Neural networks (NNs) for the inversion of chlorophyll concentrations from remote sensing reflectance measurements were designed and trained on a subset of the SeaBAM data set. The remaining SeaBAM data set was then applied to evaluating the performance of NNs and compared with those of the SeaBAM empirical algorithms. NNs achieved better inversion accuracy than the empirical algorithms in most of chlorophyll concentration range, especially in the intermediate and high chlorophyll regions and Case II waters. 12The Effect of Water Spray upon Incineration Flue Gas Clean-up显示文摘The existence of liquid water was found very important in incineration flue gas clean-up systems for enhancing the absorption of acid components contained. In a newly developed incineration flue gas clean-up tower, which works in a semi-dry mode, the water is injected in the form of spray to maximum its contact surface with the gas. The criteria for the design of the water nozzles would be nigh water concentration but no liquid impinging on the solid wall and complete evaporation inside the tower. In order to optimize the atomizer design, the effects of the spray type (hollow or solid cone), their initial droplet she distribution and water flow rate on the performance of the acid gas absorption were investigated. The liquid behaviour was studied with a fluid dynamic simulation code, and the overall performance was checked experimentally. This paper presents the use of a commercial CFD code, FLUENT, and some modifications made during such investigation. The modification includes the viscosity of the flue gas defined as a function of the temperature, and the initial mass fraction of different droplet size group described with an exponential distribution formula of Rosin-Rammler. The investigation results (the optimal spray parameters) were used to guide the water nozzle design. 13Experimental Studies on Combustion Characteristics of Mixed Municipal Solid Waste显示文摘In our country, municipal solid wastes (MSW) are always burnt in their original forms and only a few pretreatments are taken. Therefore it is vital to study the combustion characteristics of mixed waste. In this paper, thermogravimetric analysis and a lab scale fluidized bed facility were used as experimental means. The data in two different experimental systems were introduced and compared. It took MSW 3-3.5 min to burn out in FB, but in thermogravimetric analyzer, the time is 20-25 min. It can be concluded that, in general, the behavior of a mixture of waste in TGA can be expressed by simple combination of individual components of the waste mixtures. Only minor deviations from the rule were observed. 16A Bayesian based quasianalytical algorithm for retrieval of inherent optical properties from ocean color显示文摘The recently developed quasi-analytical algo-rithm (QAA) is a promising algorithm for deriving inherentoptical properties from ocean color. Unlike the conventionalsemi-analytical algorithm, QAA does not need a prioriknowledge of the spectral shape of chlorophyll absorption.However, several empirical relations, which may not be uni-versally applicable and can result in low noise tolerance, areinvolved in QAA. In this study, the Bayesian inversion theoryis introduced to improve the performance of QAA. In theestimation of total absorption coefficient at the referencewavelength, instead of empirical algorithms used in the QAAthe Bayesian approach is employed in combination with anoptical model that uses separate parameters to account ex-plicitly for the contribution of molecular and particle scat-terings to remote sensing reflectance, a priori knowledgeproduced by the QAA, the Akaike’s Bayesian informationcriterion (ABIC) for choosing the optimal regularizationparameter, and genetic algorithms for global optimization.Coefficients at other wavelengths are then derived using anempirical estimate of particle backscattering spectral shape.When applied to a simulated dataset synthesized by IOCCG,the Bayesian algorithm outperforms QAA algorithm, espe-cially in higher chlorophyll concentration waters. The rootmean square errors (RMSEs) between the true and the de-rived a(440) and bb(440) are reduced from 0.918 and 0.039m–1 for QAA-555 to 0.367 and 0.023 m–1 for Bayes-555, 0.205and 0.007 m–1 for QAA-640 to 0.092 and 0.005 m–1 forBayes-640, and 0.207 and 0.007 m–1 for QAA-blending to0.096 and 0.005 m–1 for Bayes-blending. 19Is there any amphidromic point of S_2 constituent around the Natuna Islands in the southern South China Sea?显示文摘The discrepancies that if there is any amphidromic point of S2 constituent and its location if there is around the Natuna Islands in the southern South China Sea have suspended for a long time, however, there is always no convincing research to settle them up to now. The TOPEX/Poseidon and Jason-1 altimeters have been providing a long-term sea surface height data, which can be used to calculate the constants of tidal constituents along the satellite footprint with the harmonic analysis method. Based on more than 12 years altimetry data from T/P and Jason-1, the character of phase lags from harmonic analysis is used to identify if there is a S2 am-phidromic point around the Natuna Islands. 20Long-range correlations in remotely sensed chlorophyll in the South China Sea显示文摘A 8-year time series of 8-day Seaviewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) data, which spans from Oct 1997 to Oct 2005, was used to study the temporal correlations and scaling behaviour of ocean chlorophyll fluctuations in the South China Sea (SCS) by means of detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA). Long-range correlations in chlorophyll fluctuations were detected in almost all the SCS. The scaling exponents vary over a wide range from 0.5 to 1.14, with an average value of 0.79. High values are found in the upwelling regions, such as the northwest of Luzon and the north of Sunda Shelf. Low values occur in the southwest of Luzon, the east of Hainan Island and a majority of the southern SCS. This spatial pattern is considerably different from that of the scaling exponents of the sea surface temperature (SST) time series.
