1Spatiotemporal vegetation cover variations in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau under global climate change显示文摘Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) analysis and the related Principal Components (PC) analysis are used to extract valuable vegetation cover derived information from the National Oceanic and Atmos- pheric Administration (NOAA-AVHRR)'s Leaf Area Index (LAI) satellite images. Results suggest that from 1982 to 2000 global climate change has contributed to an increase in vegetation cover in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The correlation between rainfall and LAI EOF PC1 and PC2 indicates that rainfall is the major climatic factor influencing interannual variations of average vegetation cover throughout the entire Plateau. However, annual mean vegetation cover trends in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau are mainly out of phase with air temperature increasing, which is primarily responsible for nonsynchro- nous changes of vegetation cover. In the southern ridge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, recent warming trends contribute to humid weather and favorable conditions for vegetation growth. By contrast, higher temperatures have led to arid conditions and insufficient rainfall in the northern part of the Plateau, leading to drought and other climatic conditions which are not conducive to increased vegetation cover.XU XingKui CHEN Hong Jason K LEVY 2008Chinese Science Bulletin2008,53,6:28

3Numerical Analysis of Structural Progressive Collapse to Blast Loads显示文摘After the progressive collapse of Ronan Point apartment in UK in 1968, intensive research effort had been spent on developing guidelines for design of new or strengthening the existing structures to prevent progressive collapse. However, only very few building design codes provide some rather general guidance, no detailed design requirement is given. Progressive collapse of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building in Oklahoma City and the World Trade Centre (WTC) sparked again tremendous research interest on progressive collapse of structures. Recently, US Department of Defence (DoD) and US General Service Administration (GSA) issued guidelines for structure progressive collapse analysis. These two guidelines are most commonly used, but their accuracy is not known. This paper presents numerical analysis of progressive collapse of an example frame structure to blast loads. The DoD and GSA procedures are also used to analyse the same example structure. Numerical results are compared and discussed. 9Microstructure evolution and deformation mechanism of amorphous/crystalline high-entropy-alloy composites显示文摘High-entropy amorphous alloys present high hardness,but low tensile ductility.Here,deformation behavior of the amorphous/crystalline Fe Co Cr Ni high-entropy alloy(HEA)composite prepared by the previous experiment is investigated using atomic simulations.The result shows the partial dislocations in the crystal HEA layer,and the formation of shear bands in the amorphous HEA layer occurs after yielding.The strength of the amorphous/crystalline HEA composite reduces with increasing the thickness of the amorphous layer,agreeing with the previous experiments.The coupled interaction between the crystal plasticity and amorphous plasticity in amorphous/crystalline HEA composites results in a more homogeneous redistribution of plastic deformation to cause interface hardening,due to the complex stress field in the amorphous layer.The current findings provide the insight into the deformation behavior of the amorphous/crystalline HEA composite at the nanoscale,which are useful for optimizing the structure of the HEA composite with high strength and good plasticity.Jia Li Haotian Chen Hui Feng Qihong Fang Yong Liu Feng Liu Hong Wu Peter K Liaw 2020Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,54,19:2
