| 3 | Phytochemical analysis and antioxidant profile of methanolic extract of seed, pulp and peel of Baccaurea ramiflora Lour.显示文摘Objective: To analyze the phytochemical constituents responsible for the plausible antioxidant effect of methanolic extract of the seed, pulp and peel of Baccaurea ramiflora Lour. Methods: Fresh seed, pulp, and peel of Baccaurea ramiflora fruits were extracted with methanol(MEBRse, MEBRpu, MEBRpe) and evaluated by phytochemical analysis for their content of innumerable metabolites(primary and secondary) viz. carbohydrates, alkaloids, glycosides, tannins, phenols, terpenoids, flavonoids, proteins, and fixed oils. The antioxidant efficacy was assessed through different assay methods viz. 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) free radical scavenging activity, total antioxidant capacity(TAC) and reducing power capacity(RPC). Estimation of total phenolic content(TPC), and total flavonoid content(TFC) was also done to confirm the presence of these phytochemicals. Results: It was revealed from the phytochemical analysis of MEBRse that alkaloids, glycosides, carbohydrates, phenols, and flavonoids were present, while that of MEBRpu showed the existence of carbohydrates, proteins, alkaloids, glycosides, phenols, saponins, flavonoids, and fixed oils. Presence of carbohydrates, alkaloids, phenols, tannins, flavonoids, and terpenoids were found in the MEBRpe. A significant antioxidant activity was revealed by the MEBRpu [EC_(50):(27.612 ± 1.375) μg/mL], compared to MEBRpe, and MEBRse in DPPH assay. The ranking order for RPC was MEBRpu > MEBRpe > MEBRse respectively. The EC_(50) value of TAC of the MEBRpu, MEBRpe, and MEBRse were(25.107 ±0.744) μg/mL,(241.127 ± 7.463) μg/mL and(372.364 ± 11.030) μg/mL, respectively. Quantity of TPC and TFC were the highest in the MEBRpu(124.360 ± 2.078 mg GAE/g and 107.527 ±1.900 mg QRE/g extract) rather than MEBRpe and MEBRse extracts. Conclusions: This study suggests that MEBRpu has a significantly higher antioxidant property than MEBRpe and MEBRse. These extracts might be advantageous in prevention or decelerating the progress of different diseases related to oxidative-stress/damage. Moreover, detailed analysis of these extracts is required to identify the presence of promising compound(s) responsible for their antioxidant activity. | Md.Sahab Uddin Md.Sarwar Hossain Abdullah Al Mamun Devesh Tewari Md.Asaduzzaman Md.Siddiqul Islam Mohamed M.Abdel-Daim | 2018 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2018,11,7: | 3 |

| 19 | Production of Biochar for Soil Application:A Comparative Study of Three Kiln Models显示文摘Biochar has potentials for soil fertility improvement, climate change mitigation and environmental reclamation, and charred biomass can be deliberately incorporated into soil for long-term carbon stabilization and soil amendment. Many different methods have been used for biochar production ranging from laboratory to industrial scales. However, in countryside of developing countries, biomass is generally used for cooking but not charred. Biochar production techniques at farmer scale have remained poorly developed. We developed and tested biochar production kilns for farmers with a dimension of 50.8 cm × 38.1 cm(height × diameter), using three different setups for optimizing oxygen(O2) limitation and syngas circulation: airtight with no syngas circulation(Model I),semi-airtight with external syngas circulation(Model II) and semi-airtight with internal syngas circulation(Model III). A comparative assessment of these biochar production kiln models was made considering biochar pyrolysis time, fuel to biomass ratio, biochar to feedstock ratio and thermogravimetric index(TGI). Among the models, the best quality biochar(TGI = 0.15) was obtained from Model I kiln taking the longest time for pyrolysis(12.5 h) and the highest amount of fuel wood(1.22 kg kg-1biomass). Model III kiln produced comparatively good quality biochar(TGI = 0.11), but with less fuel wood requirement(0.33 kg kg-1biomass) and shorter pyrolysis time(8.5 h). We also tested Model III kiln in a three times larger size under two situations(steel kiln and pit kiln). The biochar to feedstock ratio(0.38) and quality(TGI = 0.14) increased slightly for the larger kilns. Quality of biochar was found to be mainly related to pyrolysis time. The costs for the biochar stove and pit kiln were US$ 65–77, while it was US$ 154 for the large size steel kiln. Model III kiln can potentially be used for both cooking and biochar production at farmer scale. | Shamim MIA Nijam UDDIN Shaikh Abdullah Al MAMUN HOSSAIN Ruhul AMIN Fatima Z.METE Tjisse HIEMSTRA | 2015 | Pedosphere2015,25,5: | 1 |
| 20 | A multi-purpose National Forest Inventory in Bangladesh:design, operationalisation and key results显示文摘Background:National forest inventory and forest monitoring systems are more important than ever considering continued global degradation of trees and forests. These systems are especially important in a country like Bangladesh, which is characterised by a large population density, climate change vulnerability and dependence on natural resources. With the aim of supporting the Government’s actions towards sustainable forest management through reliable information, the Bangladesh Forest Inventory(BFI)was designed and implemented through three components:biophysical inventory,socio-economic survey and remote sensing-based land cover mapping. This article documents the approach undertaken by the Forest Department under the Ministry of Environment,Forests and Climate Change to establish the BFI as a multipurpose, efficient, accurate and replicable national forest assessment. The design, operationalization and some key results of the process are presented. Methods:The BFI takes advantage of the latest and most well-accepted technological and methodological approaches.Importantly,it was designed through a collaborative process which drew from the experience and knowledge of multiple national and international entities.Overall,1781 field plots were visited,6400 households were surveyed, and a national land cover map for the year 2015 was produced.Innovative technological enhancements include a semi-automated segmentation approach for developing the wall-to-wall land cover map,an object-based national land characterisation system, consistent estimates between sample-based and mapped land cover areas, use of mobile apps for tree species identification and data collection, and use of differential global positioning system for referencing plot centres. Results:Seven criteria, and multiple associated indicators, were developed for monitoring progress towards sustainable forest management goals, informing management decisions, and national and international reporting needs.A wide range of biophysical and socioeconomic data were collected, and in some cases integrated, for estimating the indicators. Conclusions:The BFI is a new information source tool for helping guide Bangladesh towards a sustainable future.Reliable information on the status of tree and forest resources,as well as land use, empowers evidence-based decision making across multiple stakeholders and at different levels for protecting natural resources. The integrated socioeconomic data collected provides information about the interactions between people and their tree and forest resources, and the valuation of ecosystem services. The BFI is designed to be a permanent assessment of these resources, and future data collection will enable monitoring of trends against the current baseline. However, additional institutional support as well as continuation of collaboration among national partners is crucial for sustaining the BFI process in future. | Matieu Henry Zaheer Iqbal Kristofer Johnson Mariam Akhter Liam Costello Charles Scott Rashed Jalal Md.Akhter Hossain Nikhil Chakma Olaf Kuegler Hossain Mahmood Rajib Mahamud Mohammad Raqibul Hasan Siddique Khaled Misbahuzzaman Mohammad Main Uddin Mohammed Al Amin Farid Uddin Ahmed Gael Sola Md.Baktiar Siddiqui Luca Birigazzi Mahmudur Rahman Ilias Animon Saimunnahar Ritu Laskar Muqsudur Rahman Aminul Islam Heather Hayden Frida Sidik Mondal Falgoonee Kumar Rakibul Hassan Mukul Hossain Nishad Ariful Hoque Belal Asif Reza Anik Abdul Khaleque Md.Shaheduzzaman Syed Shahadat Hossain Tariq Aziz Md.Tauhidor Rahaman Ruhul Mohaiman Patrick Meyer Purnata Chakma A.Z.M.Manzoor Rashid Sourav Das Shrabanti Hira Mohammed Jashimuddin Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman Karl Wurster Sarder Nasir Uddin Abul Kalam Azad S.M.Zahirul Islam Laurent Saint-André | 2021 | Forest Ecosystems2021,8,1: | 0 |
