4Does black hole spin play a key role in the FSRQ/BL Lac dichotomy?显示文摘Blazars are characterized by large intensity and spectral variations across the electromagnetic spectrum It is believed that jets emerging from them are almost aligned with the line-of-sight. The majority of identified extragalactic sources in γ-ray catalogs of EGRET and Fermi are blazars. Observationally,blazars can be divided into two classes: flat spectrum radio quasars(FSRQs) and BL Lacs. BL Lacs usually exhibit lower γ-ray luminosity and harder power law spectra at γ-ray energies than FSRQs. We attempt to explain the high energy properties of FSRQs and BL Lacs from Fermi γ-ray space telescope observations. It was argued previously that the difference in accretion rates is mainly responsible for the large mismatch in observed luminosity in γ-ray. However, when intrinsic luminosities are derived by correcting for beaming effects, this difference in γ-ray luminosity between the two classes is significantly reduced. In order to explain this difference in intrinsic luminosities, we propose that spin plays an important role in the luminosity distribution dichotomy of BL Lacs and FSRQs. 9Characterization and Selection of Phosphorus Deficiency Tolerant Rice Genotypes in Sri Lanka显示文摘Phosphorus(P) deficiency in soil is a major constrain for rice production. An important set of rice genotypes(landraces, old improved and new improved varieties) were screened for P deficiency tolerance in two major cropping seasons of Sri Lanka, in 2012. The Ultisol soil, which was collected from a plot cultivated with rice without fertilizer application for past 40 years(P_0) at the Rice Research and Development Institute(RRDI), Bathalagoda, Sri Lanka, was used as the potting medium for greenhouse trials. Two field trials were conducted in the same plots at RRDI. Both P_0 and P_(30)(30 mg/kg P_2O_5) conditions were used in the two greenhouse trials. At the early vegetative(three weeks after transplanting), late vegetative(six weeks after transplanting) and flowering stages, plant height and number of tillers per plant were recorded. At the flowering stage, shoots were harvested and shoot dry weight, shoot P concentration, shoot P uptake and P utilization efficiency were measured. All data were statistically analyzed using analysis of variance, regression and cluster procedures. The measured parameters were significantly different between P_0 and P_(30) conditions(P < 0.05). Higher shoot dry weight was reported by the rice genotypes H4 and Marss under P_0 conditions. The regression analysis between shoot dry weight and P utilization efficiency revealed that the studied rice genotypes could be categorized to three P deficiency tolerance classes. A total of 13 genotypes could be considered as highly tolerant and 4 genotypes as sensitive for P deficiency. These results could be used to select parental genotypes for breeding and genetic studies and also to select interesting varieties or landraces for organic rice production.Y. C. ALUWIHARE M. ISHAN M. 20Unusual presentation of extramedullary blast crisis in chronic myeloid leukemia:A case report显示文摘BACKGROUND Extramedullary blast crisis in chronic myeloid leukemia(CML)is an uncommon occurrence of leukemic blast infiltration in regions other than the bone marrow.Malignant infiltration of the serosal membranes should be considered in cases where CML presents with ascites or pleural effusion.CASE SUMMARY A 23-year-old female with CML presented with progressively worsening ascites and pleural effusion despite first-line tyrosine kinase inhibitor treatment.Her blood work indicated leukocytosis with myelocyte bulge and 2%blasts.Analysis of the patient’s bone marrow confirmed the chronic phase of CML.Abdominal ultrasound revealed hepatosplenomegaly with ascites.The fluid investigation of both ascites and pleural effusion revealed a predominance of neutrophils with exudate.However,no acid-fast bacilli or growth was observed after culturing.Although hydroxyurea reduced cell counts,there was no observed effect on ascites or pleural effusion.Repeat investigation of the ascitic and pleural fluid revealed a polymorphous myeloid cell population consisting of myelocytes,metamyelocytes,band forms,neutrophils and a few myeloblasts.Extramedullary blast crisis was suspected,and mutation analysis was performed.We switched the patient to dasatinib.The patient’s symptoms were relieved,and ascites and pleural effusion diminished.CONCLUSION Serosal membrane involvement in CML is extremely rare.In this case,the patient responded well to dasatinib treatment.Rashmi Mishra Sandeep Garg Praveen Bharti Deepak Ranjan Malla Ishan Rohatgi Sachin Gautam 2023World Journal of Hematology2023,10,4:0
