1Contribution of oxidative stress to pulmonary arterial hypertension显示文摘Recent data implicate oxidative stress as a mediator of pulmonary hypertension (PH) and of the associated pathological changes to the pulmonary vasculature and right ventricle (RV). Increases in reactive oxygen species (ROS), altered redox state, and elevated oxidant stress have been demonstrated in the lungs and RV of several animal models of PH, including chronic hypoxia, monocrotaline toxicity, caveolin-1 knock-out mouse, and the transgenic Ren2 rat which overexpresses the mouse renin gene. Generation of ROS in these models is derived mostly from the activities of the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidases, xanthine oxidase, and uncoupled endothelial nitric oxide synthase. As disease progresses circulating monocytes and bone marrow-derived monocytic progenitor cells are attracted to and accumulate in the pulmonary vasculature. Once established, these inflammatory cells generate ROS and secrete mitogenic and fibrogenic cytokines that induce cell proliferation and fibrosis in the vascular wall resulting in progressive vascular remodeling. Deficiencies in antioxidant enzymes also contribute to pulmonary hypertensive states. Current therapies were developed to improve endothelial function, reduce pulmonary artery pressure, and slow the progression of vascular remodeling in the pulmonary vasculature by targeting deficiencies in either NO (PDE-type 5 inhibition) or PGI 2 (prostacyclin analogs), or excessive synthesis of ET-1 (ET receptor blockers) with the intent to improve patient clinical status and survival. New therapies may slow disease progression to some extent, but long term management has not been achieved and mortality is still high. Although little is known concerning the effects of current pulmonary arterial hypertension treatments on RV structure and function, interest in this area is increasing. 2Effects of creep feeding and supplemental glutamine or glutamine plus glutamate (Aminogut) on pre- and post-weaning growth performance and intestinal health of piglets显示文摘Background: Creep feeding is used to stimulate piglet post-weaning feed consumption.L-Glutamine(GLN) is an important source of fuel for intestinal epithelial cells.The objective of this study was to determine the impact of creep feeding and adding GLN or AminoGut(AG;containing glutamine + glutamate) to pre-and post-weaning diets on pig performance and intestinal health.Litters(N = 120) were allotted to four treatments during 14–21 d of lactation: 1) No creep feed(NC,n = 45);2) creep fed control diet(CFCD,n = 45);3) creep fed 1% GLN(CFGLN,n = 15);4) creep fed.88% AG(CFAG,n = 15).After weaning,the NC and CFCD groups were sub-divided into three groups(n = 15 each),receiving either a control nursery diet(NC-CD,CFCD-CD) or a diet supplemented with either GLN(NC-GLN,CFCD-GLN) or with AG(NC-AG,CFCD-AG).Litters that were creep fed with diets containing GLN or AG also were supplemented with those amino acids in the nursery diets(CFGLN-GLN,CFAG-AG).Glutamine was added at 1% in all three post-weaning diet phases and AG was added at.88% in phase 1 and 2 and at.66% in phase 3.Results: Feed conversion(feed/gain) showed means among treatment means close to significance(P = 0.056) and Tukey's test for pairwise mean comparisons showed that Pigs in the CFGLN-GLN group had the best feed conversion(feed/gain) in the first three-week period post-weaning,exceeding(P = 0.044) controls(CFCD-CD) by 34%.The NC-AG group had(P = 0.02) the greatest feed intake in the last three week of the study,exceeding controls(CFCD-CD) by 12%.CFGLN-GLN,CFCD-GLN and sow reared(SR) pigs had the greatest(P = 0.049) villi height exceeding the CFCD-AG group by 18%,20% and 19% respectively.The CFAG-AG group had the deepest(P = 0.001) crypts among all treatments.CFGLN-GLN,CFCD-GLN and SR groups had the greatest(P = 0.001) number of cells proliferating(PCNA) exceeding those in the NC-CD group by 43%,54% and 63% respectively.Sow reared pigs showed the greatest(P = 0.001) intestinal absorption capacity for xylose and mannitol.Conclusion: Supplementation of creep feed and nursery diets with GLN and/or AminoGut in the first three week improved feed conversion possibly due to improved intestinal health.Rafael A Cabrera James L Usry Consuelo Arrellano Eduardo T Nogueira Marianne Kutschenko Adam J Moeser Jack Odle 2013Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2013,4,3:17

7Early gastric cancer:A challenge in Western countries显示文摘Early gastric cancer(EGC)is an invasive carcinoma involving only the stomach mucosa or submucosa,independently of lymph node status.EGC represents over 50%of cases in Japan and in South Korea,whereas it accounts only for approximately 20%of all newly diagnosed gastric cancers in Western countries.The main classification systems of EGC are the Vienna histopathologic classification and the Paris endoscopic classification of polypoid and non-polypoid lesions.A careful endoscopic assessment is fundamental to establish the best treatment of EGC.Generally,EGCs are curable if the lesion is completely removed by endoscopic resection or surgery.Some types of EGC can be resected endoscopically;for others the most appropriate treatment is surgical resection and D2 lymphadenectomy,especially in Western countries.The favorable oncological prognosis,the extended lymphadenectomy and the reconstruction of the intestinal continuity that excludes the duodenum make the prophylactic cholecystectomy mandatory to avoid the onset of biliary complications.Maria Michela Chiarello Valeria Fico Gilda Pepe Giuseppe Tropeano Neill James Adams Gaia Altieri Giuseppe Brisinda 2022World Journal of Gastroenterology2022,28,7:3

9Magnitude of modulation of gene expression in aneuploid maize depends on the extent of genomic imbalance显示文摘Aneuploidy has profound effects on an organism,typically more so than polyploidy,and the basis of this contrast is not fully understood.A dosage series of the maize long arm of chromosome 1(1L)was used to compa re relative global gene expression in diffe rent types and degrees of aneuploidy to gain insights into how the magnitude of genomic imbalance as well as hypoploidy affects global gene expression.While previously available methods require a selective examination of specific genes,RNA sequencing provides a whole-genome view of gene expression in aneuploids.Most studies of global aneuploidy effects have concentrated on individual types of aneuploids because multiple dose aneuploidies of the same genomic region are difficult to produce in most model genetic organisms.The genetic toolkit of maize allows the examination of multiple ploidies and 1-4 doses of chromosome arms.Thus,a detailed examination of expression changes both on the varied chromosome arms and elsewhere in the genome is possible,in both hypoploids and hyperploids,compared with euploid controls.Previous studies observed the inverse trans effect,in which genes not varied in DNA dosage were expressed in a negative relationship to the varied chromosomal region.This response was also the major type of changes found globally in this study.Many genes varied in dosage showed proportional expression changes,though some were seen to be partly or fully dosage compensated.It was also found that the effects of aneuploidy were progressive,with more severe aneuploids producing effects of greater magnitude.Adam F·Johnson Jie Hou Hua Yang Xiaowen Shi Chen Chen Md Soliman Islam Tieming Ji Jianlin Cheng James A·Birchler 2020Journal of Genetics and Genomics2020,47,2:3

11Microwave absorption of magnesium/hydrogen-treated titanium dioxide nanoparticles显示文摘Interactions between materials and electromagnetic irradiations in the microwave frequency are critical for many civil and military applications, such as radar detection, communications, information processing and transport et al. Dipole rotations or magnetic domain resonance are the mainly traditional mechanisms for microwave absorption. The recent finding of the excellent microwave absorption from hydrogenated TiO2 nanoparticles provides us an alternative approach for achieving such absorption, by manipulating the structural defects inside nanoparticles through hydrogenation. In this study, we demonstrate that the microwave absorption can be not only achieved but fine-tuned with TiO2 nanoparticles thermally treated in a Mg/H2 environment. Their position and efficiency can be effectively controlled by the treating temperature. Specifically, the microwave absorption position shifts to the lower frequency region as the treating temperature increases, and there seems to exist an optimal treating temperature to obtain the maximum efficiency, as the absorbing efficiency first increases, and then decreases, with the increase in treatment temperature. 16Equivariant analytical mapping of first principles Hamiltonians to accurate and transferable materials models显示文摘We propose a scheme to construct predictive models for Hamiltonian matrices in atomic orbital representation from ab initio data as a function of atomic and bond environments.The scheme goes beyond conventional tight binding descriptions as it represents the ab initio model to full order,rather than in two-centre or three-centre approximations.We achieve this by introducing an extension to the atomic cluster expansion(ACE)descriptor that represents Hamiltonian matrix blocks that transform equivariantly with respect to the full rotation group.The approach produces analytical linear models for the Hamiltonian and overlap matrices.Through an application to aluminium,we demonstrate that it is possible to train models from a handful of structures computed with density functional theory,and apply them to produce accurate predictions for the electronic structure.The model generalises well and is able to predict defects accurately from only bulk training data.Liwei Zhang Berk Onat Geneviève Dusson Adam McSloy G.Anand Reinhard J.Maurer Christoph Ortner James R.Kermode 2022npj Computational Materials2022,,1:2
