17Effects of Dietary Intake of Arsenosugars and Other Organic Arsenic Species on Studies of Arsenic Methylation Efficiency in Humans显示文摘Extensive research has used dimethylarsinic acid(DMA)in urine as a marker of arsenic methylation.The premise is that humans methylate inorganic arsenicals to monomethylarsonic acid(MMA)and DMA and excrete these arsenic species into the urine.However,DMA in urine not only comes from the methylation of inorganic arsenic but also could be a result of metabolism of other arsenic species,such as arsenosugars and arsenolipids.Most environmental health and epidemiological studies of arsenic methylation might have overlooked confounding factors that contribute to DMA in urine.Here we critically evaluate reported studies that used methylation indexes,concentration ratios of methylated arsenicals,or the percentage of DMA in urine as markers of arsenic methylation efficiency.Dietary intake of arsenosugars potentially confounds the calculation and interpretation of the arsenic methylation efficiencies.Many studies have not considered incidental dietary intake of arsenosugars,arsenolipids,and other organic arsenic species.Future studies should consider the dietary intake of diverse arsenic species and their potential effect on the urinary concentrations of DMA.Tetiana Davydiuk Jeffrey Tao Xiufen Lu X.Chris Le 2023Environment & Health2023,1,4:0

19Fixing the reference frame for PPMXL proper motions using extragalactic sources显示文摘We quantify and correct systematic errors in PPMXL proper motions using extragalactic sources from the first two LAMOST data releases and the Ve`ron-Cetty& Ve`ron Catalog of Quasars. Although the majority of the sources are from the Ve`ron catalog, LAMOST makes important contributions in regions that are not well-sampled by previous catalogs, particularly at low Galactic latitudes and in the south Galactic cap. We show that quasars in PPMXL have measurable and significant proper motions,which reflect the systematic zero-point offsets present in the catalog. We confirm the global proper motion shifts seen by Wu et al., and additionally find smaller-scale fluctuations of the QSO-derived corrections to an absolute frame. 20Multispectral light scattering endoscopic imaging of esophageal precancer显示文摘Esophageal adenocarcinoma is the most rapidly growing cancer in America.Although the prognosis after diagnosis is unfavorable,the chance of a successful outcome increases tremendously if detected early while the lesion is still dysplastic.Unfortunately,the present standard-of-care,endoscopic surveillance,has major limitations,since dysplasia is invisible,often focal,and systematic biopsies typically sample less than one percent of the esophageal lining and therefore easily miss malignancies.To solve this problem we developed a multispectral light scattering endoscopic imaging system.It surveys the entire esophageal lining and accurately detects subcellular dysplastic changes.The system combines light scattering spectroscopy,which detects and identifies invisible dysplastic sites by analyzing light scattered from epithelial cells,with rapid scanning of the entire esophageal lining using a collimated broadband light beam delivered by an endoscopically compatible fiber optic probe.Here we report the results of the first comprehensive multispectral imaging study,conducted as part of routine endoscopic procedures performed on patients with suspected dysplasia.In a double-blind study that characterized the system’s ability to serve as a screening tool,55 out of 57 patients were diagnosed correctly.In addition,a smaller double-blind comparison of the multispectral data in 24 patients with subsequent pathology at locations where 411 biopsies were collected yielded an accuracy of 90%in detecting individual locations of dysplasia,demonstrating the capability of this method to serve as a guide for biopsy.Le Qiu Ram Chuttani Douglas K Pleskow Vladimir Turzhitsky Umar Khan Yuri N Zakharov Lei Zhang Tyler M Berzin Eric U Yee Mandeep S Sawhney Yunping Li Edward Vitkin Jeffrey D Goldsmith Irving Itzkan Lev T Perelman 2017Light(Science & Applications)2017,6,1:0
