1New-found link between microbiota and obesity显示文摘Due to the grave pathological role of obesity, worldwide research is being continued to find out the causative factors involved in it. Recent advances in this field reveal a possible relationship between the compositional pattern of gut microbiota and genesis of obesity. Several study results have shown that short-chain fatty acids(SCFAs, microbiota-induced fermentation products) and lipopolysaccharides(LPS, an integral component of Gram negative microorganisms) play the key role in linking the two. Though several SCFAs are produced as microbiota-fermentation products, three of them, i.e., butyrate, propionate and acetate have been found to be definitely involved in obesity; though individually they are neither purely obesogenic nor antiobesogenic. Out of these, butyrate and propionate are predominantly antiobesogenic. Butyrate, though a major energy source for colonocytes, has been found to increase mitochondrial activity, prevent metabolic endotoxemia, improve insulin sensitivity, possess antiinflammatory potential, increase intestinal barrier function and protect against diet-induced obesity without causing hypophagia. Propionate has been found to inhibit cholesterol synthesis, thereby antagonizing the cholesterol increasing action of acetate, and to inhibit the expression of resistin in adipocytes. Moreover, both these SCFAs have been found to cause weight regulation through their stimulatory effect on anorexigenic gut hormones and to increase the synthesis of leptin. Unlike butyrate and propionate, acetate, which is substantially absorbed, shows more obesogenic potential, as it acts as a substrate for hepatic and adipocyte lipogenesis. High fat diet increases the absorption of LPS, which, in turn, has been found to be associated with metabolic endotoxemia and to induce inflammation resulting in obesity. 2Role of adiponectin and some other factors linking type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity显示文摘Because of the intimate association of obesity with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM), during the last two decades, extensive research work is being conducted to find out whether the coexistence of the two is a simple association or there is a positive correlating link between the two. In this article, an attempt has been made to collect and analyse the recent developments in this field and to arrive at a conclusion on the subject. The possible role of several important factors(obtained from adipocytes/not of adipocyte origin) in linking the two has been discussed in detail. Some of the agents, specifically adiponectin, are beneficial(i.e., reduce the incidence of both), while others are harmful(i.e., increase their incidence). 3Expression of HER2 and bradykinin B_1 receptors in precursor lesions of gallbladder carcinoma显示文摘AIM:To determine the expression of HER2 and bradykinin B 1 receptors(B 1 R) in the two pathogenic models of gallbladder cancer:the metaplasia-dysplasia-carcinoma and the adenoma-carcinoma pathways.METHODS:Receptor proteins were visualized by immunohistochemistry on 5-μm sections of paraffin-embedded tissue.Expression of both receptors was studied in biopsy samples from 92 patients(6 males and 86 females;age ranging from 28 to 86 years,mean 56 years).High HER2 expression in specimens was additionally investigated by fluorescence in situ hybridiza-tion.Cell proliferation in each sample was assessed by using the Ki-67 proliferation marker.RESULTS:HER2 receptor protein was absent in adenomas and in normal gallbladder epithelium.On the contrary,there was intense staining for HER2 on the basolateral membrane of epithelial cells of intestinal metaplasia(22/24;91.7%) and carcinoma in situ(9/10;90%),the lesions that displayed a significantly high proliferation index.Protein up-regulation of HER2 in the epithelium with metaplasia or carcinoma in situ was not accompanied by HER2 gene amplification.A similar result was observed in invasive carcinomas(0/12).The B 1 R distribution pattern mirrored that of HER2 except that B 1 R was additionally observed in the adenomas.The B 1 R appeared either as cytoplasmic dots or labeling on the apical cell membrane of the cells composing the epithelia with intestinal metaplasia(24/24;100%) and carcinoma in situ(10/10;100%) and in the epithelial cells of adenomas.In contrast,both HER2(4/12;33%) and B 1 R(1/12;8.3%) showed a low expression in invasive gallbladder carcinomas.CONCLUSION:The up-regulation of HER2 and B1R in precursor lesions of gallbladder carcinoma suggests cross-talk between these two receptors that may be of importance in the modulation of cell proliferation in gallbladder carcinogenesis.Cesar Toledo Carola E Matus Ximena Barraza Pamela Arroyo Pamela Ehrenfeld Carlos D Figueroa Kanti D Bhoola Maeva del Pozo Maria T Poblete 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,11:6
4Antitumor activity and antioxident role of Bauhinia racemosa against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma in Swiss albino mice显示文摘AIM: To study the antitumor effect and antioxidant role of Bauhinia racemosa. METHODS: Antitumor activity and antioxidant status of methanol extract (50, 100, and 200 mg/kg) of Bauhinia racemosa stem bark was evaluated against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) tumor in mice. Acute and short-term toxicity studies were performed initially in order to ascertain the safety of methanol extract of Bauhinia racemosa (MEBR). After 24 h of tumor inoculation, the extract was administered daily for 14 d. After administration of the last dose followed by 18 h fasting, mice were then sacrificed for observation of antitumor activity. The effect of MEBR on the growth of transplantable murine tumor, life span of EAC bearing hosts and simultaneous alterations in the hematological profile and liver biochemical parameters (lipid peroxidation, antioxidant enzymes) were estimated. RESULTS: The MEBR showed decrease in tumor volume, packed cell volume and viable cell count, and increased the nonviable cell count and mean survival time thereby increasing life span of EAC tumor bearing mice. Hematological profile reverted to more or less normal levels in extract treated mice. Treatment with MEBR decreased the levels of lipid peroxidation and increased the levels of glutathione, superoxide dismutase and catalase. 9Catalyst activation: Surface doping effects of group Ⅵ transition metal dichalcogenides towards hydrogen evolution reaction in acidic media显示文摘Two-dimensional(2D) transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDs) have emerged as promising alternatives to the platinum-based catalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER). The edge site of these2D materials exhibits HER-active properties, whereas the large-area basal plane is inactive.Therefore, recent studies and methodologies have been investigated to improve the performance of TMD-based materials by activating inactive sites through elemental doping strategies. In this review,we focus on the metal and non-metal dopant effects on group VI TMDs such as MoS_(2) MoSe_(2) WS_(2)and WSe_(2) for promoting HER performances in acidic electrolytes. A general introduction to the HER is initially provided to explain the parameters in accessing the catalytic performance of dopedTMDs. Then, synthetic methods for doped-TMDs and their HER performances are introduced in order to understand the effect of various dopants including metallic and non-metallic elements. 10人胎盘提取液的抗炎和抗血小板聚集作用显示文摘AIM:To find the anti-inflammatory and anti-platelet aggregatory acivity of human placental extract(HPE,Placentrex),METHODS:The HPE was studied for anti-inflammatory effect in wistar rats on carrageenin,serotonin(5-HT),and prostaglandin E1(PGE1) induced edema in acute model and cotton pellet induced granuloma on sub-acute model.Anti-platelet aggregation was studied against protection of adinosine diphosphate (ADP)-induced aggregation of human platelet through in vitro study,RESULTS:HPE showed positive results both in acute and sub-acute models of inflammation.Highly significant(P<0.01),results were obtained against 5-HT induced acute inflammation and cotton pellet induced sub-acute inflammation in comparison with standard (diclofenac sodium)and control (normal saline) drugs.The anti-inflammatory property of HPE in animal model was well supported with clincal study of platelet aggregation.There was highly significant (P<0.01) inhibition of platelet aggregation with HPE at different doses against ADP.CONCLUSION:Our data suggest that human placental extract may be useful in suppressing inflammation and platelet aggregation.SUR Tapas Kumar BISWAS Tuhin Kanti ALI Liaquat MUKHERJEE Biswapati 2003Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2003,24,2:2
