| 1 | Polyethylene glycol functionalized carbon nanotubes/gelatin-chitosan nanocomposite: An approach for significant drug release显示文摘This research work blooms the new idea of developing a safe and controlled drug releasing matrix using multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs).In aqueous solution,uniform and highly stable dispersion of MWCNTs was obtained after secondary functionalization with polyethylene glycol(PEG)which was studied by Fourier transmission infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA).Solution casting method was used to prepare MWCNTs/gelatin-chitosan nanocomposite films and the effect of MWCNTs on physico-mechanical,thermal and water uptake properties of the nanocomposites were evaluated.Incorporation of MWCNTs into the porous gelatin-chitosan matrix showed interesting stiffness and dampness along with developed microfibrillar structures within the pore walls intended at being used in tissue engineering of bone or cartilage.A common antibiotic drug,ciprofloxacin was incorporated into nanocomposite matrix.The evaluation of the effect of MWCNTs on drug release rate by dissolution test and antimicrobial susceptibility test was performed.Sharp release of the drug was found at early stages(~1 h),but the rate was reduced afterwards,showing a sustained release.It was observed that for all microorganisms,the antibacterial activities of drug loaded MWCNTs/gelatin-chitosan nanocomposites were higher than that of drug loaded gelatin-chitosan composite films containing no MWCNTs.Comparative statistical studies by ANOVA techniques also showed remarkable difference between the antibacterial activities,exhibited by MWCNTs-incorporated and non-incorporated composite films. | Sadia Sharmeen A.F.M.Mustafizur Rahman Mostakima M.Lubna Kh Samaher Salem Rafiqul Islam Mubarak A.Khan | 2018 | Bioactive Materials2018,3,3: | 3 |

| 17 | A comparative study of the ATC-40 recommended and numerically derived M-φ relationship显示文摘Nonlinear static analysis procedures are key tools in evaluating the performance of existing buildings and verifying the design of seismic retrofits in seismically active regions. In this procedure, nonlinear force-displacement or moment-curvature (M-φ) behavior needs to be defined. In the ATC-40 document, values of M-φ have been proposed to model elements in a nonlinear procedure. However, these values need to be investigated to determine if they are representative of actual values. In this paper, an attempt has been made to numerically derive M-φ curves to simulate actual performance. Then, these curves are compared with the ATC-40 recommended curves with respect to various parameters. | 19 | Rural-urban differences in distributions and determinants of facility delivery among women in Bangladesh显示文摘Introduction:The utilization of facility delivery is crucial to achieve sustainable development goals by reducing maternal and neonatal deaths.This study aimed to compare the distributions and determinants of childbirth in health facilities in urban and rural regions of Bangladesh.Methods:Cross-sectional data from the 2017-2018 Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey were analyzed.Multilevel logistic regression was applied.Results:A total of 4751 women were included in the analyses.Only 50%of childbirths took place in health facilities,63.4%and 44.6%in urban and rural regions,respectively.Overall,the odds of the association between facility delivery and the studied factors were similar.Multiparous women had significantly lower odds of facility delivery in both rural(adjusted odds ratio[AOR]=0.3,95%confidence interval[CI]:0.2 to 0.5)and urban(AOR=0.2,95%CI:0.1 to 0.5)regions.In both regions,women with higher education levels,highly educated husbands,antenatal care(ANC),and higher wealth indexes had significantly higher odds of facility delivery.Conclusion:Several common associated factors were identified.However,differences were observed regarding distributions of these factors.The differences in facility delivery utilization could result from lower ANC utilization,socioeconomic status,and transportation facilities in rural regions than urban regions;therefore,improving these conditions could increase facility delivery in these regions. | Jannatun Nayeem Christina Stennett Atia Sharmeen Md Mahbub Hossain Gulam Muhammed Al Kibria | 2023 | Global Health Journal2023,7,4: | 0 |
