Patterns of genetic and morphometric diversity in the marbled crab(Pachygrapsus marmoratus, Brachyura, Grapsidae)populations across the Tunisian coast显示文摘The present study reports on population structure analysis of the marbled crab Pachygrapsus marmoratus(Fabricius, 1787) from the Tunisian coast, an appropriate location to study biogeographical processes because of the presence of a well-known discontinuous biogeographic area(the Siculo-Tunisian Strait). Patterns of morphological and genetic variation of this highly dispersive and continuously distributed decapod species were assessed among its geographically close populations which cover almost the entire Tunisian coastline. A total of386 specimens from nine sites were collected and examined for morphometric variability at 14 morphometric traits. The results of multivariate analyses of linear morphometric traits showed the existence of sexual dimorphism in this species by PERMANOVA(Permutational multivariate analysis of variance). In addition, both CDA(Canonical discriminant analysis) and NPMANOVA(Non parametric MANOVA test) analyses revealed statistically significant differences among the studied locations for both sexes. Overall, the outcome of CDA analysis showed that over 87% of individuals could be assigned correctly to three regional groups in both sexes(North, Center and South). Specifically, SIMPER(Similarity Percentages) analysis showed that carapace length, carapace width and merus length were major contributors to the morphometric separation between populations. The pattern of phenotypic variation suggested by morphometric analyses was found to be highly discordant with that suggested by the analysis of a mitochondrial marker(cytochrome oxidase I, COI). Indeed, the results inferred from restriction fragment analysis of the COI in 180 crabs, suggested high genetic homogeneity. Very low levels of haplotype diversity(h) were found in almost all the studied populations, associated with non significant genetic distances for nearly all population comparisons. Explanations to these morphometric and mt DNA patterns as well as the discrepancy between them are discussed. | Temim Deli Hiba Bahles Khaled Said Noureddine Chatti | 2015 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2015,34,6: | 1

Multiphysics simulation of VVER-1200 fuel performance during normal operating conditions显示文摘Nuclear fuel performance modeling and simulation are critical tasks for nuclear fuel design optimization and safety analysis under normal and transient conditions.Fuel performance is a complicated phenomenon that involves thermal, mechanical, and irradiation mechanisms and requires special multiphysics modules. In this study,a fuel performance model was developed using the COMSOL Multiphysics platform. The modeling was performed for a 2D axis-symmetric geometry of a UO2fuel pellet in the E110 clad for VVER-1200 fuel. The modeling considers all relevant phenomena, including heat generation and conduction, gap heat transfer, elastic strain, mechanical contact, thermal expansion, grain growth, densification, fission gas generation and release, fission product swelling,gap/plenum pressure, and cladding thermal and irradiation creep. The model was validated using a code-to-code evaluation of the fuel pellet centerline and surface temperatures in the case of constant power,in addition to validation of fission gas release(FGR)predictions. This prediction proved that the model could perform according to previously published VVER nuclear fuel performance parameters.A sensitivity study was also conducted to assess the effects of uncertainty on some of the model parameters. The model was then used to predict the VVER-1200 fuel performance parameters as a function of burnup, including the temperature profiles, gap width, fission gas release, and plenum pressure.A compilation of related material and thermomechanical models was conducted and included in the modeling to allow the user to investigate different material/performance models.Although the model was developed for normal operating conditions,it can be modified to include off-normal operating conditions. | Khaled M.Yassin Mohamed H.Hassan Mohammad M.Ghoneim Mostafa S.Elkolil Adel Alyan Said A.Agamy | 2023 | Nuclear Science and Techniques2023,34,2: | 1

Genetic and morphological divergence in the purple sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus(Echinodermata,Echinoidea)across the African Mediterranean coast显示文摘The present investigation focuses on population structure analysis of the purple sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus across the African Mediterranean coast, with the main aim of assessing the influence of the Siculo-Tunisian Strait on gene flow disruption in this highly dispersive echinoid species. For this purpose, patterns of morphological and genetic variation were assessed among its populations from the western and eastern Mediterranean coasts. A total of 302 specimens from seven Tunisian sites were collected and examined for morphometric variability at twelve morphometric traits. Concordant results, inferred from CDA(canonical discriminant analyses), pairwise NPMANOVA(non parametric multivariate analysis of variance) comparisons and MDS(multidimensional scaling) plot, unveiled significant inter-population differences in the measured traits among the studied populations. Furthermore, the combined use of the one way ANOSIM(analysis of similarities) and the Discriminant/Hotelling analysis allowed unravelling two morphologically differentiated groups assigned to both western and eastern Mediterranean basins. The SIMPER(similarity percentages) routine analysis showed that total dry weight, test diameter and spine length were major contributors to the morphometric separation between locations and between groups. Pattern of phenotypic divergence discerned in P. lividus across the Siculo-Tunisian Strait is interestingly in congruence with that inferred from the genetic investigation of the purple sea urchin populations from the same region based on the analysis of the mt DNA COI(cytochrome oxidase I) gene in 314 specimens from nineteen locations covering a wider geographic transect, streching westward to the Algerian coast and eastward to the Libyan littoral. The specific haplotypic composition characterizing each Mediterranean basin,as inferred from the minimum spanning network, confirmed the geographic partioning of genetic variation, as revealed by F-statistics and AMOVA(analysis of molecular variance) analyses, yielding significant genetic differentiation between eastern and western Mediterranean populations. The newly detected phylogeographic patterns, observed for the first time in P. lividus throughout the explored distribution range, suggest the involvement of different biotic and abiotic processes in shaping such variation, and provide evidence that a large and geographically exhaustive dataset is necessary to unveil phylogeographic structure within widespread marine species, previously cathegorized as panmictic in part of their distribution range. | Temim Deli Mohamed Hbib Ben Attia Rym Zitari-Chatti Khaled Said Noureddine Chatti | 2017 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2017,36,12: | 1

Turbulent Double-Diffusive Natural Convection and Entropy Generation within an Inclined Square Cavity显示文摘The present study deals with double-diffusive convection within a two-dimensional inclined cavity filled with an air-CO_(2) binary gas mixture. The left and the right vertical walls are differentially heated and subjected to different locations of(CO_(2))contaminants to allow for the variation of the buoyancy strength(N).However, the horizontal walls are assumed adiabatic. The simulations are conducted using the finite volume method to solve the conservation equations of continuity, momentum, energy, and species transport.Good agreement with other numerical results in the literature is obtained. The effect of multiple parameters, namely, buoyancy ratio(N),thermal Rayleigh number(Ra),and inclination angle(α)on entropy generation rate is analyzed and discussed in the postprocessing stage, while considering both laminar and turbulent flow regimes. The computations reveal that these parameters considerably affect both the heat and mass transfer performances of the system. | Khaled Said Ahmed Ouadha Amina Sabeur | 2022 | Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing2022,18,6: | 0
Karyological and morphometric variation of the North African green frog Pelophylax saharicus (Anura) in northeastern Africa显示文摘Morphometric variation of Pelophylax saharicus was analysed using univariate and multivariate statistics, with bothtraditional and geometric morphometries, based on 148 specimens from four different geographical localities in Tunisia and Algeria. The results show the existence of three morphotypes in Tunisia and one in Algeria, and indicate a significant degree of variationin morphometric characters between regions. Specimens from the southernmost region have the smallest body size and thegreatest morphometric divergence from other populations. This pattern of morphometric variation probably results from phenotypicplasticity in response to local environmental factors. The results of our chromosomal study (C-, Ag-NOR-, endonucleasedigestion, DAPI, CMA_3 and Q-banding) reveal this species to exhibit the plesiomorphic Pelophylax karyotype of 2n = 26 biarmedchromosomes and NORs on the eleventh pair. | 19 | Taxonomy of the lesser jerboa Jaculus jaculus (Dipodidae,Rodentia) based on allozymic and morphological variation显示文摘The lesser Egyptian jerboa Jaculus jaculus, is a member of the subfamily Dipodinae, known to have a number ofsubspecies. Previous studies of J. jaculus from North Africa found various morphological forms of unknown taxonomic status, which are frequently grouped into two taxa: J. jaculus and J. deserti. We assessed the taxonomic status of this taxon in Tunisiausing allozymic (phylogenetic analysis of 23 genetic loci encoding 16 enzymatic proteins) and morphological (multivariateanalysis of 13 craniodental characters) analyses of 136 J. jaculus specimens collected from seven localities within its distributionrange. Allozymic analysis clearly indicated the existence of two distinct groups of J. jaculus, with a mean genetic distance (D)value of 0.99 and F_(ST)=0.52. Individuals within the two groups did not show any obvious geographical structuration, even withinthe Matmata locality which represents the meeting point for the two groups where they were found in sympatry. Additionally, morphometric analysis of 13 craniodental characters was clearly separated the two groups. These results were obtained over avery restricted area of the total distribution of J. jaculus and strongly suggest the occurrence of two separate and often sympatricspecies within the currently accepted J. jaculus in Tunisia: J. jaculus and J. deserti . | Abderraouf BEN FALEH Abdelwaheb BEN OTHMEN Khaled SAID | 2010 | Current Zoology2010,56,4: | 0
An Efficient Text Recognition System from Complex Color Image for Helping the Visually Impaired Persons显示文摘The challenge faced by the visually impaired persons in their day-today lives is to interpret text from documents. In this context,to help these people, the objective of this work is to develop an efficient text recognition system that allows the isolation, the extraction, and the recognition of text in the case of documents having a textured background,a degraded aspect of colors, and of poor quality, and to synthesize it into speech. This system basically consists of three algorithms:a text localization and detection algorithm based on mathematical morphology method(MMM);a text extraction algorithm based on the gamma correction method(GCM);and an optical character recognition(OCR)algorithm for text recognition.A detailed complexity study of the different blocks of this text recognition system has been realized.Following this study,an acceleration of the GCM algorithm(AGCM)is proposed. The AGCM algorithm has reduced the complexity in the text recognition system by 70%and kept the same quality of text recognition as that of the original method. To assist visually impaired persons,a graphical interface of the entire text recognition chain has been developed, allowing the capture of images from a camera, rapid and intuitive visualization of the recognized text from this image, and text-to-speech synthesis. Our text recognition system provides an improvement of 6.8%for the recognition rate and 7.6%for the F-measure relative to GCM and AGCM algorithms. | Ahmed Ben Atitallah Mohamed Amin Ben Atitallah Yahia Said Mohammed Albekairi Anis Boudabous Turki MAlanazi Khaled Kaaniche Mohamed Atri | 2023 | Computer Systems Science & Engineering2023,46,7: | 0
