2Role of bile acids in colon carcinogenesis显示文摘Bile acids(BAs)are cholesterol derivatives synthesized in the liver and then secreted into the intestine for lipid absorption.There are numerous scientific reports describing BAs,especially secondary BAs,as strong carcinogens or promoters of colon cancers.Firstly,BAs act as strong stimulators of colorectal cancer(CRC)initiation by damaging colonic epithelial cells,and inducing reactive oxygen species production,genomic destabilization,apoptosis resistance,and cancer stem cells-like formation.Consequently,BAs promote CRC progression via multiple mechanisms,including inhibiting apoptosis,enhancing cancer cell proliferation,invasion,and angiogenesis.There are diverse signals involved in the carcinogenesis mechanism of BAs,with a major role of epidermal growth factor receptor,and its down-stream signaling,involving mitogen-activated protein kinase,phosphoinositide 3-kinase/Akt,and nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells.BAs regulate numerous genes including the human leukocyte antigen class I gene,p53,matrix metalloprotease,urokinase plasminogen activator receptor,Cyclin D1,cyclooxygenase-2,interleukin-8,and miRNAs of CRC cells,leading to CRC promotion.These evidence suggests that targeting BAs is an efficacious strategies for CRC prevention and treatment.Thi Thinh Nguyen Trong Thuan Ung Nam Ho Kim Young Do Jung 2018World Journal of Clinical Cases2018,6,13:10
3Resting heart rate control and prognosis in coronary artery disease patients with hypertension previously treated with bisoprolol:a subgroup analysis of the BISO-CAD study显示文摘Background:Resting heart rate(RHR)is considered as a strong predictor of total mortality and hospitalization due to heart failure in hypertension patients.Bisoprolol fumarate,a second-generation beta-adrenoreceptor blockers(β-blocker)is commonly prescribed drug to manage hypertension.The present study was to retrospectively evaluate changes in the average RHR and its association with cardiovascular outcomes in bisoprolol-treated coronary artery disease(CAD)patients from the CAD treated with bisoprolol(BISO-CAD)study who had comorbid hypertension.Methods::We performed ad-hoc analysis for hypertension sub-group of the BISO-CAD study(n=866),which was a phase IV,multination,multi-center,single-arm,observational study carried out from October 2011 to July 2015 across China,South Korea,and Vietnam.Multivariate regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with incidence of composite cardiac clinical outcome(CCCO),the results were presented as adjusted odds ratio(OR)along with 95%confidence interval(CI)and adjusted P value.Results::A total of 681 patients(mean age:64.77±10.33 years)with hypertension from BISO-CAD study were included in the analysis.Bisoprolol improved CCCOs in CAD patients with comorbid hypertension,with RHR<65 and<70 beats/min compared with RHR≥65 and≥75 beats/min,respectively,in the efficacy analysis(EA)set.In addition,it lowered RHR in both intent-to-treat(ITT)and EA groups after 6,12,and 18 months of treatment.Further,RHR 70 to 74 beats/min resulted in significantly higher risk of CCCOs EA set of patients(adjusted OR:4.34;95%CI:1.19-15.89;P=0.03).Also,events of hospitalization due to acute coronary syndrome were higher when RHR 69 to 74 beats/min compared to RHR<69 beats/min in ITT patients.Conclusion::Bisoprolol can effectively reduce RHR in Asian CAD patients with comorbid hypertension and hence,improve CCCO without affecting their blood pressure.Yun-Dai Chen Xin-Chun Yang Vinh Nguyen Pham Shi-An Huang Guo-Sheng Fu Xiao-Ping Chen Binh Quang Truong Yu Yang Shao-Wen Liu Tian-Rong Ma Dong-Soo Kim Tae-hoon Kim 2020Chinese Medical Journal2020,,10:10

5Progress in development of electrocatalyst for CO2 conversion to selective CO2 production显示文摘The conversion of carbon dioxide(CO2)to valuable fuels and chemicals offers a new pathway for sustainable and clean carbon fixation.Recently,the focus has been on electrochemical CO2 reduction on heterogeneous electrode catalysts,leading to remarkable achievements in the reaction performance.To date,CO2 to carbon monoxide(CO)conversion is considered as the most promising candidate reaction for the industrial market,owing to its high efficiency and reasonable technoeconomic feasibility.Moreover,CO has been proposed as a key intermediate species for further reduced hydrocarbons,which can pave the way for various fuel production.This study sets out to describe recent progress on the electrochemical CO2 reduction to CO in a heterogeneously catalyzed system.The review includes understanding of the catalytic material employed and engineering strategies implemented by adjusting the binding energy of key adsorbates.These material design approaches,such as nanostructuring,alloying,doping,and so forth,have pioneered breakouts in the intrinsic catalytic nature of transition metal elements.Moreover,recent advances in systematic design are summarized,with focus on practical industrial applications.Finally,perspectives on the design of electrocatalyst materials for CO production by electrochemical CO2 reduction are presented.Dang Le Tri Nguyen Younghye Kim Yun Jeong Hwang Da Hye Won 2020Carbon Energy2020,2,1:7
6Fecal lactoferrin accurately reflects mucosal inflammation in inflammatory bowel disease显示文摘BACKGROUND Studies have demonstrated a potential role for fecal biomarkers such as fecal calprotectin(FC)and fecal lactoferrin(FL)in monitoring inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD)-Crohn's disease(CD)and ulcerative colitis(UC).However,their correlation to endoscopic scores,disease severity and affected intestinal surface has not been extensively investigated.AIM To correlate FL,and for comparison white blood cell(WBC)and C-reactive protein(CRP),with endoscopic scores,disease extent and location in CD and UC.METHODS Retrospective analysis in 188 patients who had FL,CRP and WBC determined within 30 d of endoscopy.Disease location,disease extent(number of intestinal segments involved),disease severity(determined by endoscopic scores),timing of FL testing in relation to colonoscopy,as well as the use of effective fast acting medications(steroids and biologics)between colonoscopy and FL measurement,were recorded.RESULTS In 131 CD and 57 UC patients,both CRP and FL-but not WBC-distinguished disease severity(inactive,mild,moderate,severe).In patients receiving fastacting(steroids or biologics)treatment in between FL and colonoscopy,FL showed a higher correlation to endoscopic scores when tested before vs after the procedure(r=0.596,P<0.001,vs r=0.285,P=0.15 for the Simple Endoscopic Score for CD;and r=0.402,P=0.01 vs r=0.054 P=0.84 for Disease Activity Index).Finally,FL was significantly correlated with the diseased mucosal surface(colon-ileocolon>small bowel)and the number of inflamed colon segments.CONCLUSION FL and CRP separated disease severity categories with FL showing lower discriminating P-values.FL showed a close correlation with the involved mucosal surface and with disease extent and was more closely correlated to endoscopy when determined before the procedure–this indicating that inflammatory activity changes associated with therapy might be rapidly reflected by FL levels.FL can accurately and timely characterize intestinal inflammation in IBD.Marrieth G Rubio Kofi Amo-Mensah James M Gray Vu Q Nguyen Sam Nakat Douglas Grider Kim Love James H Boone Dario Sorrentino 2019World Journal of Gastrointestinal Pathophysiology2019,10,5:4
7Ethanol extracts of Scutellaria baicalensis protect against lipopolysaccharide-induced acute liver injury in mice显示文摘Objective: To investigated the protective potential of ethanol extracts of Scutellaria baicalensis(S. baicalensis) against lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced liver injury. Methods: Dried roots of S. baicalensis were extracted with ethanol and concentrated to yield a dry residue. Mice were administered 200 mg/kg of the ethanol extracts orally once daily for one week. Animals were subsequently administered a single dose of LPS(5 mg/kg of body weight, intraperitoneal injection). Both protein and m RNA levels of cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor alpha, interleukin-1β, and interleukin-6 in liver tissues were evaluated by ELISA assay and quantitative PCR. C yclooxygenase-2, inducible nitric oxide synthase, and nuclear factor-κB protein levels in liver tissues were analyzed by western blotting. Results: Liver injury induced by LPS signifi cantly increased necrosis factor alpha, interleukin-1β, interleukin-6, cyclooxygenase-2, inducible nitric oxide synthase, and nuclear factor-κB in liver tissues. 8Genome-wide association study identifies QTL for eight fruit traits in cultivated tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.)显示文摘Genome-wide association study(GWAS)is effective in identifying favorable alleles for traits of interest with high mapping resolution in crop species.In this study,we conducted GWAS to explore quantitative trait loci(QTL)for eight fruit traits using 162 tomato accessions with diverse genetic backgrounds.The eight traits included fruit weight,fruit width,fruit height,fruit shape index,pericarp thickness,locule number,fruit firmness,and brix.Phenotypic variations of these traits in the tomato collection were evaluated with three replicates in field trials over three years.We filtered 34,550 confident SNPs from the 51K Axiom®tomato array based on<10%of missing data and>5%of minor allele frequency for association analysis.The 162 tomato accessions were divided into seven clusters and their membership coefficients were used to account for population structure along with a kinship matrix.To identify marker-trait associations(MTAs),four phenotypic data sets representing each of three years and combined were independently analyzed in the multilocus mixed model(MLMM).A total of 30 significant MTAs was detected over data sets for eight fruit traits at P<0.0005.The number of MTA per trait ranged from one(brix)to seven(fruit weight and fruit width).Two SNP markers on chromosomes 1 and 2 were significantly associated with multiple traits,suggesting pleiotropic effects of QTL.Furthermore,16 of 30 MTAs suggest potential novel QTL for eight fruit traits.These results facilitate genetic dissection of tomato fruit traits and provide a useful resource to develop molecular tools for improving fruit traits via marker-assisted selection and genomic selection in tomato breeding programs.Minkyung Kim Thuy Tien Phan Nguyen Joon-Hyung Ahn Gi-Jun Kim Sung-Chur Sim 2021Horticulture Research2021,8,1:3

11Orange G degradation by heterogeneous peroxymonosulfate activation based on magnetic MnFe_(2)O_(4)/α-MnO_(2) hybrid显示文摘Wastewater containing an azo dye Orange G(OG)causes massive environmental pollution,thus it is critical to develop a highly effective,environmental-friendly,and reusable catalyst in peroxymonosulfate(PMS)activation for OG degradation.In this work,we successfully applied a magnetic MnFe_(2)O_(4)/α-MnO_(2) hybrid fabricated by a simple hydrothermal method for OG removal in water.The characteristics of the hybrid were investigated by Xray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,Brunauer–Emmett–Teller method,vibrating sample magnetometry,electron paramagnetic resonance,thermogravimetric analysis,and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.The effects of operational parameters(i.e.,catalytic system,catalytic dose,solution pH,and temperature)were investigated.The results exhibited that 96.8% of OG degradation was obtained with MnFe_(2)O_(4)/α-MnO2(1:9)/PMS system in 30 min regardless of solution pH changes.Furthermore,the possible reaction mechanism of the coupling system was proposed,and the degradation intermediates of OG were identified by mass spectroscopy.The radical quenching experiments and EPR tests demonstrated that SO_(4)•̶,O_(2)•̶,and 1O2 were the primary reactive oxygen species responsible for the OG degradation.The hybrid also displayed unusual stability with less than 30%loss in the OG removal after four sequential cycles.Overall,magnetic MnFe2O4/α-MnO2 hybrid could be used as a high potential activator of PMS to remove orange G and maybe other dyes from wastewater.Le Thi Thao To Van Nguyen Van Quy Nguyen Ngoc Man Phan Ki Jae Kim Nguyen Nhat Huy Nguyen Trung Dung 2023Journal of Environmental Sciences2023,,2:3

13Three-dimensional simulation of horseshoe vortex and local scour around a vertical cylinder using an unstructured finite-volume technique显示文摘A Large Eddy Simulation model is developed to simulate the hydrodynamics and scour process around a circular cylinder.The Navier-Stokes solver is based on the projection method and a second-order unstructured finite-volume method.A sigma-coordinate system is used to obtain an accurate representation of the evolution of the sediment-water interface.Bed erosion is simulated by solving the sediment continuity equation using a mass-conservating sand-slide algorithm and a bedload transport rate,which is based on a description of physical processes(Engelund&Freds?e,1976).Simulations of flow around a vertical cylinder for free-slip bed,rigid bed,and live-bed cases are done.The mean velocity profile and shear stress validate the accuracy of this model.Horseshoe vortex and lee-wake vortex shedding structure are simulated,and the results are thoroughly discussed in depth.The formation and the temporal development of the scour hole and other topographic bed features are successfully reproduced.The current paper reports the first known investigation of both scour evolution and coherent structure using large-eddy simulation.Wei Zhang Miguel Uh Zapata Xin Bai Damien Pham-Van-Bang Kim Dan Nguyen 2020International Journal of Sediment Research2020,35,3:3

15Anticancer effects of saponin and saponin–phospholipid complex of Panax notoginseng grown in Vietnam显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the antitumor activity both in vitro and in vivo of saponin–phospholipid complex of Panax notoginseng.Methods:The in vitro cytotoxic effect of saponins extract and saponin–phospholipid complex against human lung cancer NCI-H460 and breast cancer cell lines BT474 was examined using MTS assay.For in vivo evaluation of antitumor potential,saponin and saponin–phospholipid complex were administered orally in rats induced mammary carcinogenesis by 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene,for 30 days.Results:Our data showed that saponin–phospholipid complex had stronger anticancer effect compared to saponin extract.The IC50 values of saponin–phospholipid complex and saponin extract for NCI-H460 cell lines were 28.47 mg/m L and 47.97 mg/mL,respectively and these values for BT474 cells were 53.18 mg/mL and 86.24 mg/mL,respectively.In vivo experiments,administration of saponin,saponin–phospholipid complex and paclitaxel(positive control) effectively suppressed 7,12-dimethylbenz(a) anthracene-induced breast cancer evidenced by a decrease in tumor volume,the reduction of lipid peroxidation level and increase in the body weight,and elevated the enzymatic antioxidant activities of superoxide dismutase,catalase,glutathione peroxidase in rat breast tissue.Conclusions:Our study suggests that saponin extract from Panax notoginseng and saponin–phospholipid complex have potential to prevent cancer,especially breast cancer.Thu Dang Kim Hai Nguyen Thanh Duong Nguyen Thuy Loi Vu Duc Thu Vu Thi Hung Vu Manh Patcharee Boonsiri Tung Bui Thanh 2016Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2016,6,9:2

17Effects of transcranial ultrasound stimulation pulsed at 40 Hz on Aβplaques and brain rhythms in 5×FAD mice显示文摘Background:Alzheimer's disease(AD)is the most common cause of dementia,and is characterized by amyloid-β(Aβ)plaques and tauopathy.Reducing Aβhas been considered a major AD treatment strategy in pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches.Impairment of gamma oscillations,which play an important role in perception and cognitive function,has been shown in mouse AD models and human patients.Recently,the therapeutic effect of gamma entrainment in AD mouse models has been reported.Given that ultrasound is an emerging neuromodulation modality,we investigated the effect of ultrasound stimulation pulsed at gamma frequency(40 Hz)in an AD mouse model.Methods:We implanted electroencephalogram(EEG)electrodes and a piezo-ceramic disc ultrasound transducer on the skull surface of 6-month-old 5×FAD and wild-type control mice(n=12 and 6,respectively).Six 5×FAD mice were treated with two-hour ultrasound stimulation at 40 Hz daily for two weeks,and the other six mice received sham treatment.Soluble and insoluble Aβlevels in the brain were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.Spontaneous EEG gamma power was computed by wavelet analysis,and the brain connectivity was examined with phase-locking value and cross-frequency phase-amplitude coupling.Results:We found that the total Aβ42 levels,especially insoluble Aβ42;in the treatment group decreased in pre-and infra-limbic cortex(PIL)compared to that of the sham treatment group.A reduction in the number of Aβplaques was also observed in the hippocampus.There was no increase in microbleeding in the transcranial ultrasound stimulation(tUS)group.In addition,the length and number of microglial processes decreased in PIL and hippocampus.Encel-phalographic spontaneous gamma power was increased,and cross-frequency coupling was normalized,implying functional improvement after tUS stimulation.Conclusion:These results suggest that the transcranial ultrasound-based gamma-band entrainment technique can be an effective therapy for AD by reducing the Aβload and improving brain connectivity.Mincheol Park Gia Minh Hoang Thien Nguyen Eunkyung Lee Hyun Jin Jung Youngshik Choe Moon Hwan Lee Jae Youn Hwang Jae Gwan Kim Tae Kim 2021Translational Neurodegeneration2021,10,4:2
18Synthesis and characterization of core/shell structured nanophosphors CePO_4:Tb@LaPO_4 by solvothermal method显示文摘Core/shell structured CePO4:Tb(III) @LaPO4 and CePO4:Tb(III) were successfully synthesized in tris(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate(TEHP) and diethylene glycol(DEG) solvents for comparison of the two techniques in open air and closed reaction vessel.Morphology and crystal structure of the core/shell nanophosphors were determined by using X-ray diffraction(XRD) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM) ,which showed that nanophosphors had diameter of about 5-10 nm with the monoclinic monazite phase.The nanophosphors obtained by close vessel procedure showed smaller size,more homogeneity and pure crystallite.The luminescent measurements were done upon the different excitation wavelengths in ultraviolet region and at room temperature to elucidate the influences of the used solvents and the reaction temperatures.It was found that CePO4:Tb@LaPO4 prepared by the close vessel synthesis showed the intensity of green band of the transfer from 5D4 to 7F5 energy level,which was strongly increased,and the luminescent decay time was 3.2 ms,which was longer than that of naked CePO4:Tb phosphor.Dinh Xuan Loc Tran Thi Kim Chi Tran Thu Huong Nguyen Vu Tran Kim Anh Wieslaw Strek Le Quoc Minh 2011Journal of Rare Earths2011,29,12:2

20Response surface method for modeling the removal of carbon dioxide from a simulated gas using water absorption enhanced with a liquid-film-forming device显示文摘This paper presents the results from using a physical absorption process to absorb gaseous CO_2mixed with N_2using water by producing tiny bubbles via a liquid-film-forming device(LFFD)that improves the solubility of CO_2in water.The influence of various parameters—pressure,initial CO_2concentration,gas-to-liquid ratios,and temperature—on the CO_2removal efficiency and its absorption rate in water were investigated and estimated thoroughly by statistical polynomial models obtained by the utilization of the response surface method(RSM)with a central composite design(CCD).Based on the analysis,a high efficiency of CO_2capture can be reached in conditions such as low pressure,high CO_2concentration at the inlet,low gas/liquid ratio,and low temperature.For instance,the highest removal efficiency in the RSM–CCD experimental matrix of nearly 80%occurred for run number 20,which was conducted at 0.30 MPa,CO_2concentration of 35%,gas/liquid ratio of 0.71,and temperature of 15°C.Furthermore,the coefficients of determination,R^2,were 0.996 for the removal rate and 0.982 for the absorption rate,implying that the predicted values computed by the constructed models correlate strongly and fit well with the experimental values.The results obtained provide essential information for implementing this method properly and effectively and contribute a promising approach to the problem of CO_2capture in air pollution treatment.Diem-Mai Kim Nguyen Tsuyoshi Imai Thanh-Loc Thi Dang Ariyo Kanno Takaya Higuchi Koichi Yamamoto Masahiko Sekine 2018Journal of Environmental Sciences2018,30,3:2
