1Comparative Study on Growth Performance of Transgenic(Over-Expressed OsNHX1) and Wild-Type Nipponbare under Different Salinity Regimes显示文摘Transgenic Nipponbare which over-expressed a Na+/H+ antiporter gene OsNHX1 was used to compare its growth performance, water status and photosynthetic efficiency with its wild type under varying salinity regimes. Chlorophyll content, quantum yield and photosynthetic rate were measured to assess the impact of salinity stress on photosynthetic efficiency for transgenic and wild-type Nipponbare. Effects of salinity on water status and gas exchange to both lines were studied by measuring water use efficiency, instantaneous transpiration rate and stomatal conductance. Dry shoot weight and leaf area were determined after three months of growth to assess the impacts of salinity on the growth of those two lines. Our study showed that both lines were affected by salinity stress, however, the transgenic line showed higher photosynthetic efficiency, better utilization of water, and better growth due to low transpiration rate and stomatal conductance. 2Safety considerations in laparoscopic surgery: A narrative review显示文摘Laparoscopic surgery has many advantages over open surgery.At the same time,it is not without its risks.In this review,we discuss steps that could enhance the safety of laparoscopic surgery.Some of the important safety considerations are ruling out pregnancy in women of the childbearing age group;advanced discussion with the patient regarding unexpected intraoperative situations,and ensuring appropriate equipment is available.Important perioperative safety considerations include thromboprophylaxis;antibiotic prophylaxis;patient allergies;proper positioning of the patient,stack,and monitor(s);patient appropriate pneumoperitoneum;ergonomic port placement;use of lowest possible intra-abdominal pressure;use of additional five-millimetre(mm)ports as needed;safe use of energy devices and laparoscopic staplers;low threshold for a second opinion;backing out if unsafe to proceed;avoiding hand-over in the middle of the procedure;ensuring all planned procedures have been performed;inclusion of laparoscopic retrieval bags and specimens in the operating count;avoiding 10-15 mm ports for placement of drains;appropriate port closures;and use of long-acting local anaesthetic agents for analgesia.Important postoperative considerations include adequate analgesia;early ambulation;careful attention to early warning scores;and appropriate discharge advice.Brij Madhok Kushan Nanayakkara Kamal Mahawar 2022World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy2022,14,1:1

5Post-COVID-19 cholangiopathy:Current understanding and management options显示文摘Post-coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)cholangiopathy(PCC)is a rare but lifethreatening complication of COVID-19 infection.PCC typically presents when patients recovering from the contagion and manifests as cholestasis in patients with no history of pre-existing liver disease.The pathogenesis of PCC is little understood.Hepatic injury in PCC could be mediated by the predilection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 for cholangiocytes.Though PCC shows some resemblance to secondary sclerosing cholangitis in critically ill patients,it is considered as a separate and unique entity in the literature.Various treatment options like ursodeoxycholic acid,steroids,plasmapheresis,and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography guided interventions have been tried but with limited success.We have noticed significant improvement in liver function with antiplatelet therapy in a couple of patients.PCC can progress to end-stage liver disease necessitating liver transplantation.In this article,we discuss the current knowledge of PCC focusing on its pathophysiology,clinical manifestations,and management strategies.Fadl H Veerankutty Kushan Sengupta Mukul Vij Ashwin Rammohan Dinesh Jothimani Ananthavadivelu Murali Mohamed Rela 2023World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2023,15,5:0
6Use of solar PV inverters during night-time for voltage regulation and stability of the utility grid显示文摘Photovoltaic(PV)inverters are vital components for future smart grids.Although the popularity of PV-generator installations is high,their effective performance remains low.Certain inverters are designed to operate in volt-ampere reactive(VAR)mode during the night.Yet,this approach is ineffective due to the consumption of active power from the grid(as internal losses)and the regulation necessity of the direct-current(DC)bus.This paper will demonstrate the operation of a PV inverter in reactive power-injection mode when solar energy is unavailable.The primary focus is on the design of the inverter controller with respect to the synchronous rotating frame control method.The proposed novel method enables an inverter to inject the required level of reactive power to regulate the voltage levels of the utility grid within specified limits.In the process,the inverter does not absorb active power from the grid for its internal operation.The presented model has the ability to inject≤2 kVAR of reactive power at zero power factor without absorbing active power from the grid.Simulation and hardware models of the inverter were developed and tested for different reactive loads in which the hardware model represented the real-world application.The reactive power injection of the two models ran at zero power factor and produced the expected outcomes for their corresponding independent reactive loads.Henceforth,it was evident that the proposed method can enhance the efficiency of an inverter and ensure the stability of the utility grid to which it is connected.Kushan Tharuka Lulbadda Udayanga Hemapala 2022Clean Energy2022,6,4:0
7Electrical and electronic waste (e-waste) recycling and management strategies in South Asian region: a systematic review from Sri Lankan context显示文摘Electrical and electronic waste(e-waste)has become a global crisis.Managing this ever-growing problem has become very critical and yet challenging,especially in the South Asian region;otherwise,it may undermine the sustainability of development and growth of numerous industries.Hence,to explore the current context of e-waste management,recycling,and strategies in Sri Lanka,we conducted a systematic literature review process using peer-reviewed research articles retrieved from Google Scholar Database.We searched for articles containing keywords such as“e-waste”,“management strategies and recycling”,and“Sri Lanka”.We screened out papers(n=20)selected from papers(n=327)initially retrieved over a 17 period of time(2005–2022).The analysis of the screened articles showed that the main challenges to successful e-waste management were a lack of management strategies,policies,and inadequate recycling practices as well as identifying the potential and opportunities to actively enhance the comprehensive awareness,collection,storage,proper disposal,and other e-waste management steps in Sri Lanka.Further,the study identified technological,financial,socio-economic,and institutional sectors as fundamental sectors to formulate a strategic plan for e-waste management.Also,the study suggests that enacting laws to practice and adopt e-waste management,establishing central command and management institutes to control all e-waste management bodies,providing financial assistance to informal e-waste collectors and recyclers,and introducing e-waste management to school curricula are some of the possible actions that can be taken along with enhancing the awareness of e-waste management.Shakya Widanapathirana Iddamalgoda Jayawardanage Judi Udari Nisansala Perera Bellanthudawage Kushan Aravinda Bellanthudawa 2023Waste Disposal and Sustainable Energy2023,5,4:0
