1Macrobenthic community structure in the Changjiang Estuary and its adjacent waters in summer显示文摘On the basis of data collected in the summer of 2006 from 27 sampling stations in the Changjiang Estuary and its adjacent waters, the ecological characteristics of macrobenthos and the relationship between the macrobenthos and the environmental factors were studied using hierarchical cluster and non-metric multidimensional scaling (MDS).The biomass, abundance, Shannon-Wiener's and Margalef's indices of the macrobenthos were presented. The results showed that a total of 253 macrobenthic species were found in the research region, and most of them belong to mollusks and polychaetes. The dominant species were Cossurella dimorpha, Eocylichna cylindrella, Episiphon kiaochowwanense, Nassarius semiplicatus, Ocstergrenia variabilis and Sternaspis scutata. The average abundance of the macrobenthos was (313.15±233.4) ind./m2, and the average biomass was (15.2±11.2)g/m2.The distribution patterns of the abundance and biomass of the macrobenthos were similar. The abundance and biomass in the area close to the estuary were lower than those from the area more distant to the estuary; the central part of the research region had higher abundance and biomass than other parts of the research region. In accordance with the results, four macrobenthic communities with distinct spatial differences were identified. The low abundance and biomass in the area close to the estuary should be caused by the high sedimentation rate. 2Eutrophication development and its key regulating factors in a water-supply reservoir in North China显示文摘Yanghe Reservoir is an important source of drinking water for Qinhuangdao City,North China;however,in recent decades this water source has been eutrophic with recurrent summer cyanobacterial blooms.The trophic grade of the system in summer was mesotrophiceutrophic in 1990 and became hypertrophic in 2011.The nutrient availability is extremely high during the entire year,and the water temperature should be the primary driver of the summer blooms.In May-October of 2010 and 2011,abrupt variations were observed in the Secchi depth(SD) and chlorophyll a(Chl-a),and both the correlated analysis of Chl-a-SD and trophic status indices(TSI) deviation(TSI Chl-a-TSI SD) showed that algal cell density dominated light attenuation.During the algal bloom outbreak,the microcystin concentration was found to vary between 0.35-2.12 μg/L in 2010 and 0.11-1.86 μg/L in 2011.The maximum microcystin content was more than two times the safety limit required for drinking water.Inflow discharges were most concentrated in the summer,with periods of lower residence time and the largest water level fluctuation over the entire year.When a high availability of nutrients promoted a high Chl-a concentration in the whole system,it appeared that the instability caused by the decrease in residence time could not produce effective changes in the cyanobacterial abundance.The results indicated that nutrient enrichment in the aquatic systems of Yanghe Reservoir is the most serious problem and that the status would not been modified effectively by increasing hydrological fluctuations(e.g.,decreasing the residence time).Therefore,decreasing the nutrient concentrations is the only route to improve the water quality of this reservoir.Liping Wang Lusan Liu Binghui Zheng 2013Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,5:7
3Assessing the benthic quality status of the Bohai Bay(China)with proposed modifications of M-AMBI显示文摘Multivariate AZTI's Marine Biotic Index(M-AMBI) was designed to indicate the ecological status of European coastal areas.Based upon samples collected from 2009 to 2012 in the Bohai Bay,we have tested the response of variations of M-AMBI,using biomass(M-BAMBI) in the calculations,with different transformations of the raw data.The results showed that the ecological quality of most areas in the study indicated by M-AMBI was from moderate to bad status with the worse status in the coastal areas,especially around the estuaries,harbors and outfalls,and better status in the offshore areas except the area close to oil platforms or disposal sites.Despite large variations in nature of the input data,all variations of M-AMBI gave similar spatial and temporal distribution patterns of the ecological status within the bay,and showed high correlation between them.The agreement of new ecological status obtained from all M-AMBI variations,which were calculated according to linear regression,was almost perfect.The benthic quality,assessed using different input data,could be related to human pressures in the bay,such as water discharges,land reclamation,dredged sediment and drilling cuts disposal sites.It seems that M-BAMBI were more effective than M-NABMI(M-AMBI calculated using abundance data) in indicating human pressures of the Bay.Finally,indices calculated with more severe transformations,such as presence/absence data,could not indicate the higher density of human pressures in the coastal areas of the north part of our study area,but those calculated using mild transformation(i.e.,square root) did.CAI Wenqian BORJA Angel LIN Kuixuan ZHU Yanzhong ZHOU Juan LIU Lusan 2015Acta Oceanologica Sinica2015,34,10:5

5Developing nutrient criteria for the Jiulong River Estuary,Southeast China显示文摘One of the key concerns in estuarine and coastal environments is eutrophication, which is known to be closely connected to nutrient enrichment. To control and improve surface water quality, nutrient criteria are recommended in order to provide reference conditions for the environment. However, the current datasets of nutrient criteria in China are either designed for surface water or sea water, and as such these are not suitable for assessing estuarine water quality, especially given the unique ecosystem and dynamic properties of estuaries. To address this issue in current estuarine water management, nutrient criteria have been developed for a local estuary in the southeast of China. Segmentation of the Jiulong River Estuary, China was firstly analysed through field investigations carried out during 2013–2014, which resulted in the delineation of three segments characterized by their distinct properties in relation to salinity, hydrology, ecosystems, etc. Historical records from 1997 to 2014 were then analysed using statistical modelling to develop candidate nutrient criteria for the estuary.This stage of the analysis was undertaken in combination with the study of nutrient status records from the 1980s,which were used to establish a baseline reference condition. The recommended criteria values of dissolved inorganic nitrogen(DIN) in Segments Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅲ of the Jiulong River Estuary are 64, 21 and 14 μmol/L,respectively, and the corresponding values for soluble reactive phosphorus(SRP) are 0.89, 0.76 and 0.89 μmol/L,respectively. It should be emphasised that these values are site-dependent, and that different results may be achieved at other locations depending on the physical and biogeochemical characteristics of an estuary, or even a single site within a catchment. It is hoped that by demonstrating a possible methodological approach and methods of nutrient criteria derivation in the Jiulong River Estuary, the current study will offer researchers some fundamental basis from which to begin to develop more complete nutrient criteria indices for the study of nutrient conditions in other estuaries throughout China.LIU Baoli CAO Wenzhi HUANG Zheng CHEN Wenhui CHEN Huihuang LIU Lusan 2018Acta Oceanologica Sinica2018,37,2:4

13Preliminary Study on Formulating Water Quality Standards for Estuaries of China显示文摘In China,the water quality standards in operation include the Environmental Quality Standard for Surface Water(GB3838-2002)and Water Quality Standards for Seawater(GB3097-1997).However,these two standards are currently not suitable for the estuarial zones of China because of the unique properties of water environment in estuaries.We proposed preliminarily a basic idea and technical workflow in formulating water quality standards for the estuaries of China based on analyzing the water environment properties of estuaries comprehensively and comparing various parameters and their standard values mentioned in these two standards above.Issues pertinent to the formulation of the water quality standards for estuaries,e.g.nutrient,heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants(POPs),are highly concerned.The objective of this paper is to provide technical support for the formulation of scientific water quality standards and the assessment of water quality of the estuaries of China.Wang Liping Liu Lusan Zheng Binghui 2014Meteorological and Environmental Research2014,5,3:0
