4Silencing transformer and transformer-2 in Zeugodacus cucurbitae causes defective sex determination with inviability of most pseudomales显示文摘transformer is a switch gene for sex determination in many insects, which cooperates with transformer-2 that is expressed in both sexes to regulate female differentiation, particularly in dipterans. Zeugodacus cucurbitae(Coquillett) is a very destructive pest worldwide, however, its sex determination pathway remains largely uncharacterized. Here, we show that the female sex ratio is sharply reduced with knockdown of either transformer or transformer-2 by RNA interference in early embryos of Z. cucurbitae. Most of the males grown from the embryos with transient transformer and transformer-2 suppression mated with wild-type females and produced mixed sex progeny, with one exception that produced only female progeny, and all of the few remaining males failed to mate with wild-type females and produced no progeny. The exceptional male and those males with mating failure were XX pseudomales as determined by the detection of Y chromosome-linked Maleness-on-the-Y, indicating that most XX pseudomales are not viable. The phenotypes of transformer and transformer-2 suggest that they play a key role in regulating sex determination and are required for female sexual development of Z. cucurbitae. 5Structural Control of Sand Bodies and Deep Exploration for Oil and Gas显示文摘The structural styles can be used to analyses and predict developments and distributions of sand bodies in a rift basin. The dynamic process of faulting and sedimentation can be expressed as follow: the basin topography controlled by fault activity can control water dynamics; which in turn affect the transport and sedimentation of sediments. The corresponding analysis between structural styles and sand depositional types includes the following aspects: (1) in section, the corresponding between development of fault terraces and sand depositional types; (2) in plane, the relationship between faults' association and distributions of sand bodies. There are four types of terrace styles to be identified. They are Steep Slope Single Fault Terrace (SSSFT), Steep Slope Multiple Fault Terrace (SSMFT), Gentle Slope (GS) and Gentle Slope Multiple Fault Terrace (GSMFT), which also can be divided into six subtypes by the timing of the faults activities and the directions of their activity migrations (basinward and landward or marginward). They correspond to the following sand depositions such as alluvial fan, fan delta and turbidite fan etc.. The analysis of structure-sedimentation is a discussion on the rank Ⅲ sequence evolution under the condition of pulsing or episodic fault activities. It has been recognized four plane fault associations such as the comb, the broom, the fork and the fault-fold association as well as the corresponding sand distributions. Structural-sedimentary models above mentioned are significant for the deep oil and gas exploration when lacking of the drill data. It may reduce multiple resolutions in the interpretation of seismic-sedimentary facies and promote sand predictions through the constraints of the structural styles of the basin units. 6Value of neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio,N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide,urea,and creatinine for the prediction of acute kidney injury in acute heart failure:a retrospective observational study显示文摘Objective:Early identification of acute kidney injury(AKI)is essential to improve the prognosis of patients with acute heart failure(AHF).We aimed to determine the utility of neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio(NLR),N-terminal prohormone of brain natriuretic peptide(NT-proBNP),urea,and creatinine(Cr),as well as combinations of these,for the prediction of AKI in patients with AHF.Methods:A total of 153 patients with AHF under the care of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital,Sun Yat-sen University from October 2009 to October 2019 were included in this retrospective observational study.Their NLR,NT-proBNP,urea,and Cr concentrations were measured on admission.AKI was defined using the Acute Kidney Injury Network criteria.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves,the areas under the curves(AUCs),sensitivity,and specificity were employed to evaluate the ability of each biomarker and their combinations to identify AKI.This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital,Sun Yat-sen University(approval No.SYSEC-KY-KS-2021-126)on June 22,2021.Results:Forty-six(30.1%)participants developed AKI during hospitalization.The NLR and NT-proBNP of the participants with AKI were higher than those without(NLR:median 7.886 vs 4.717,P<0.0001;NT-proBNP,median 6774 vs 2786pg/mL,P<0.0001).ROC analyses demonstrated that high NLR and NT-proBNP were associated with higher incidences of AKI(NLR:cut-off 5.681,AUC 0.716,sensitivity 58.9%,specificity 80.4%;NT-proBNP:cut-off 5320pg/mL,AUC 0.700,sensitivity 72.9%,specificity 65.2%).Moreover,a combination of NLR,NT-proBNP,urea,and Cr yielded an AUC of 0.815,sensitivity 80.4%,and specificity of 74.8%.In addition,the AUCs for the prediction of AKI in the participants with New York Heart Association(NYHA)classes II,III,and IV were 0.936,0.860,and 0.772,respectively,using this combination.Conclusion:A combination of NLR,NT-proBNP,urea,and Cr,measured at admission,may represent a promising tool for the prediction of AKI in patients with AHF.This method performs best for AKI risk assessment in patients with NYHA II,followed by those with NYHA III or IV.Lisi Huang Jian He Xianghua Lin Ling Luo Rihui Zhong Xiaoying Xie Xiaodan Peng Chaohui Duan 2021Journal of Bio-X Research2021,4,4:0
