Modelling of multi-bodies in close proximity under water waves——Fluid resonance in narrow gaps显示文摘Viscous fluid model and potential flow model with and without artificial damping force(f=-μV,μ the damping coefficient and V the local averaging flow velocity) are employed in this work to investigate the phenomenon of fluid resonance in narrow gaps between multi-bodies in close proximity under water waves. The numerical results are compared with experimental data available in the literature. The comparison demonstrates that both the viscous fluid model and the potential flow model are able to predict the resonant frequency reasonably well. However the conventional potential flow model(without artificial damping term) significantly over-predicts the wave height in narrow gaps around the resonant frequency. In order to calibrate the appropriate damping coefficient used for the potential model and make it work as well as the viscous fluid model in predicting the resonant wave height in narrow gaps but with little computational efforts, the dependence of damping coefficient μ on the body geometric dimensions is examined considering the parameters of gap width Bg,body draft D,body breadth ratio Br and body number n(n = 2,3),where Br = BB/BA for the case of two bodies(Body A and Body B) with different breadths of BA and BB,respectively. It was confirmed that the damping coefficient used for the potential flow model is not sensitive to the geometric dimensions and spatial arrangement. It was found that μ∈ [0.4,0.5] may guarantee the variation of Hg/H0 with kh to be generally in good agreement with the experimental data and the results of viscous fluid model, where Hg is the excited wave height in narrow gaps under various dimensionless incident wave frequencies kh,H0 is the incident wave height,k = 2π/L is the wave number and h is the water depth.LU Lin1,2,TENG Bin3,CHENG Liang 4,SUN Liang5 & CHEN XiaoBo6 1 Center for Deepwater Engineering,Dalian University of Technology,Dalian 116024,China 2 State Key Laboratory of Structural Analysis for Industrial Equipment,Dalian University of Technology,Dalian 116024,China 3 State Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering,Dalian University of Technology,Dalian 116024,China 4 School of Civil and Resource Engineering,The University of Western Australia,Crawly 6003,Australia 5 Centre for Offshore Research and Engineering,Department of Civil Engineering,National University of Singapore,117576,Singapore 6 Research Department,Bureau Veritas,Neuilly-Sur-Seine,92570,France 2011Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2011,54,1:29

On linking climate to Chinese dynastic change: Spatial and temporal variations of monsoonal rain显示文摘The causal correlation or linkage between the East Asian Monsoon (EAM) intensity and rise/fall of Chinese dynasties recently proposed by high-resolution paleoclimate reconstructions is examined in detail. Aside from many exceptions to the correlation, both instrumental and historical climate records show strong spatial variations of rainfall on annual-to-decadal scales over eastern China. The relationship between rainfall and EAM intensity also exhibits regional disparity. These observations suggest: (1) Tak-ing paleo-proxy records from a single locality in eastern China to imply changes in drought/wetness as to affect the cultural and political history of China is fraught with uncertainty. (2) On annual-to-decadal scales, the thesis that δ18O in speleothems can be used as a proxy for the EAM strength lacks empirical underpinnings.ZHANG DeEr1, LI Hong-Chun2,3, KU Teh-Lung2,4 & LU LongHua5 1 National Climate Center, Beijing 100081, China 2 Department of Earth Sciences & Research Center of Ocean Environment and Technology, Cheng-Kung University, Tainan 70101, Taiwan, China 3 School of Geographical Sciences, Southwest University of China, Chongqing 400715, China 4 Department of Earth Sciences, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA 90089, USA 5 Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, Beijing 100081, China 2010Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,1:19
Symmetric-key cryptosystem with DNA technology显示文摘DNA cryptography is a new field which has emerged with progress in the research of DNA computing. In our study, a symmetric-key cryptosystem was designed by applying a modern DNA biotechnology, microarray, into cryptographic technologies. This is referred to as DNA symmetric-key cryptosystem (DNASC). In DNASC, both encryption and decryption keys are formed by DNA probes, while its ciphertext is embedded in a specially designed DNA chip (microarray). The security of this system is mainly rooted in difficult biology processes and problems, rather than conventional computing technology, thus it is unaffected by changes from the attack of the coming quantum computer. The encryption process is a fabrication of a specially designed DNA chip and the decryption process is the DNA hybridization. In DNASC, billions of DNA probes are hybridized and identified at the same time, thus the decryption process is conducted in a massive, parallel way. The great potential in vast parallelism computation and the extraordinary information density of DNA are displayed in DNASC to some degree.LU MingXin1,2*, LAI XueJia3*, XIAO GuoZhen4,2 & QIN Lei5 1 Department of Information Management, Nanjing University, Nanjing 210093, China 2 State Key Lab of Information Security, Institute of Software of Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing 100049, China 3 Department of Computer Science & Engineer, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai 200030, China 4 State Key Lab of ISN, Xidian University, Xi’an 710071, China 5 Cancer Research Institute, Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, K7L3N6, Canada 2007Science in China(Series F)2007,50,3:14
Implementation of a multiple round quantum dense coding using nuclear magnetic resonance显示文摘A multiple round quantum dense coding scheme based on the quantum phase estimation algorithm is proposed and implemented in a three qubit nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) quantum computer. Using an m + 1 qubit system, Bob can transmit one of 2m+1 messages to Alice, through manipulating only one qubit and exchanging it between Alice and Bob for m rounds. The information capacity is enhanced to m + 1 bits as compared to m bits in a classical scheme. The scheme has been demonstrated in NMR system, and the experimental results show a good agreement between theory and experiment.ZHANG Jingfu1, XIE Jingyi2, WANG Chuan1, DENG Zhiwei3, LU Zhiheng4, & LONG Guilu1,5 1. 6Geochemical characteristics and origin of gases from the Upper,Lower Paleozoic and the Mesozoic reservoirs in the Ordos Basin,China显示文摘The Ordos Basin, the second largest sedimentary basin in China, contains the broad distribution of natural gas types. So far, several giant gas fields have been discovered in the Upper and Lower Paleozoic in this basin, each having over 1000×10 8 m 3 of proven gas reserves, and several gas pools have also been discovered in the Mesozoic. This paper collected the data of natural gases and elucidated the geochemical characteristics of gases from different reservoirs, and then discussed their origin. For hydrocarbons preserved in the Upper Paleozoic, the elevatedδ13C values of methane, ethane and propane indicate that the gases would be mainly coal-formed gases;the singular reversal in the stable carbon isotopes of gaseous alkanes suggests the mixed gases from humic sources with different maturity. In the Lower Paleozoic,theδ13C 1 values are mostly similar with those in the Upper Paleozoic, but theδ13C 2 andδ13C 3 values are slightly lighter, suggesting that the gases would be mixing of coal-type gases as a main member and oil-type gases. There are multiple reversals in carbon isotopes for gaseous alkanes, especially abnormal reversal for methane and ethane(i.e.δ13C 1 >δ13C 2 ),inferring that gases would be mixed between high-mature coal-formed gases and oil-type gases. In the Mesozoic, the δ13Cvalues for gaseous alkanes are enriched in 12C,indicating that the gases are mainly derived from sapropelic sources;the carbon isotopic reversal for propane and butane in the Mesozoic is caused by microbial oxidation and mixing of gases from sapropelic sources with different maturity. In contrast to the Upper Paleozoic gases, the Mesozoic gases are characterized by heavier carbon isotopes of iso-butane than normal butane, which may be caused by gases generated from different kerogen types. Finally, according toδ13C 1 -Ro relationship and extremely low total organic carbon contents, the Low Paleozoic gases would not be generated from the Ordovician source as a main gas source, bycontrast, the Upper Paleozoic source as a main gas source is contributed to the Lower Paleozoic gases.HU AnPing 1 ,Li Jian 2 ,ZHANG WenZheng 3 ,LI ZhiSheng 2 ,HOU Lu 4 &LIU QuanYou 5 1 Department of Earth Sciences,Zhejiang University,Hangzhou 310027,China 2 Langfang Branch,Reasearch Institute of Petroleum Exploration and Development,PetroChina,Langfang 065007,China 3 Institute of Exploration and Development,PetroChina Changqing Oilfield Company,Xi’an 710021,China 4 University of Petroleum,Beijing102249,China 5 PetroChina Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration and Development,Beijing 100083,China 2008Science China Earth Sciences2008,51,S1:6
CHEN Qing-xuan,REN Xi-fei,LU Gu-xian: ( Institute of Geomechanics,CAGS,Beijing 1 0 0 0 81 ,China) ( 2 ) DONG Shen-bao,LIU Rui-xun,CHEN Jing: ( Departmentof Geology,Peking University,Beijing 1 0 0 871 ,China) ( 3 ) WANG Fang-zheng:( Chinese University of Geosciences,Wuhan 4 3 0 0 74 ,China) ( 4) REN Ji-shun,LITing-dong,LIU Dun-yi: ( Institute of Geology,CAGS,Beijing 1 0 0 0 3 7,China) ( 5) ZHAIYu-sheng:( Chinese University of Geosciences,Beijing1 0 0 0 83 ,China) ( 6) ZHANG Bing-xi:( Ministry of Land and Resources,Beijing1 0 0 0 3 5,China) ( 7) SHAO Li-qin:( Ministry of Science and Technology,Beijing 1 0 0 0 3 8,China) 2000地质力学学报2000,6,3:6
A first-principles study of the size-dependent electronic properties of SiC nanotubes显示文摘We investigate the structural and electronic properties of SiC nanotubes(NTs) with hexagonal cross sections by a first-principles calculation using plane-wave ultra-soft pseudo-potential technology based on the density-functional theory. Our results reveal that surface-layer C and Si atoms relax significantly upon decreasing the tube-wall thickness because of surface-size and quantum-size effects. We also find that all relaxed SiC NTs stay stably on the nanoscale because of an admixture of sp2 and sp3 hybridization between C and Si atoms and a strong covalent, and that the band gap tends to decrease with increasing tube-wall thickness. Our calculations further indicate that both C and Si atoms on the inner and outer surface of SiC NTs contribute to defect states at the top of the valence band and at the bottom of the conduction band. These results provide reference information for a thorough understanding of the properties of SiC nanostructures and also enable more precise monitoring and control of the growth of SiC nanostructures.ZHANG WeiHu 1,2,3,ZHANG FuChun 3,ZHANG ZhiYong 4*,LU ShuYuan 5 & YANG YanNing 3 1 Xi’an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Xi’an 710068,China 2 Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100049,China 3 College of Physics and Electronic Information,Yan’an University,Yan’an 716000,China 4 College of Information Science and Technology,Northwest University,Xi’an 710127,China 5 Department of Telecommunications,Xi’an Institute of Posts and Telecommunications,Xi’an 710121,China 2010Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2010,53,7:4
Electronic structure and magnetism of Fe-doped SiC nanotubes显示文摘The electronic structure and magnetic properties of Fe-doped SiC nanotubes are investigated by using the first-principles method based on density functional theory(DFT) in the local spin density approximation(LSDA).The calculation results indicate that the SiC nanotube of Fe substitution for C exhibits antiferromagnetism while ferromagnetism features prominently when Fe substitutes Si.This is a kind of half-metal magnetic material. The formation energy calculation results show that the formation energy of ferromagnetic structure is 3.2 eV lower than that of antiferromagnetic structure.Fe atoms are more likely to replace Si atoms.Spin-orbit coupling induces electron spin polarization in the ground state. Also, the doping Fe atoms make relaxation towards the outside of the tube to some extent and larger geometric distortion occurs when Fe substitutes C,but the whole geometric structure of SiC nanotubes is not damaged due to the doping. It is revealed in the calculation of energy band structure and density of states that more dispersed distribution of energy levels is produced near the Fermi level. For Fe substitution for Si,obviously there are spin-split and intense p-d hybrid effects by Si 3p electron spins and Fe 3d electron spins localized at the exchanging interactions between magnetic transitional metal(TM) impurities.Spin electronic density results indicate that system magnetic moments are mainly generated by the unpaired 3d electrons of Fe atoms. All these results show that the transition metal doping SiC nanotube could be a potential route to fabricating the promising magnetic materials.ZHANG WeiHu1,2,3,ZHANG FuChun3,ZHANG ZhiYong4,LU ShuYuan5 & YANG YanNing3 1 Xi’an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Xi’an 710068,China 2 Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100049,China 3 College of Physics and Electronic Information,Yan’an University,Yan’an 716000,China 4 Information Science and Technology Institution,Northwest University,Xi’an 710127,China 5 Department of Telecommunications,Xi’an Institute of Posts and Telecommunications,Xi’an 710121,China 2010Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2010,53,9:3

Helium isotope investigation on magnetic reversal boundaries of loess-paleosol sequence at Luochuan, central Chinese Loess Plateau显示文摘Extraterrestrial particles have higher 3He/4He ratios than those of terrestrial sediments ( > 100 Ra versus < 0.03 Ra, where Ra is the 3He/4He ratio normalized to the atmospheric value of 1.4×10?6). The inter- planetary dust particles (IDPs), which are very rich in 3He, continuously bombard the Earth and can accumulate in deposits. IDPs sedimentation rate changes can significantly influence 3He concentration in the Earth surface sediments. Since IDPs are not easy to detect in terrestrial deposits, measuring helium isotopes is a helpful approach to examine changes in IDPs. Helium concentration and helium isotopic composition magnetic substances and the quartz particles were examined for helium concen- tration and helium isotopic ratio. Results show that the 3He/4He ratio and the 3He concentrations of the magnetic substances are clearly higher than those of the bulk samples and the quartz particles, and, the 3He/4He ratio of the extracted magnetic substances is also higher than that of the average level of the Earth’s crust. The higher helium content in the magnetic fractions can be explained by an influx of IDPs.DU XueQing1,6, WANG YongHong2, REN JianGuo3, YE XianRen4 & LU HuaYu5,1 1 State Key Laboratory of Loess and Quaternary Geology, Institute of Earth Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xi’an 710075, China 2 College of Marine Geosciences, Ocean University of China, Qingdao 266003, China 3 National Natural Science Foundation of China, Beijing 100085, China 4 Lanzhou Research Center for Petroleum and Natural Gas Resources, Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Lanzhou 730000, China 5 Key Laboratory of Coast and Island Development, School of Geographic and Oceanographic Sciences, Nanjing University, Nanjing 210093, China 6 Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100049, China 2007Chinese Science Bulletin2007,52,17:1

Study of proton resonances in ^(18)Ne via resonant elastic scattering of ^(17)F+p and its astrophysical implication显示文摘The proton resonant properties in 18Ne, which determine the reaction rate of the key stellar 14O(α,p)17F reaction, have been studied by using a technique of proton resonant elastic scattering of 17F+p. A 4.22 MeV/nucleon 17F radioactive ion (RI) beam was produced via a projectile-fragmentation reaction, and separated by a Radioactive Ion Beam Line in Lanzhou (RIBLL). By bombarding a thick (CH2)n target, the energy spectra of the recoiled protons were measured by two ΔE-E silicon telescopes at the center-of-mass scattering angles of θc.m.≈175°±5°, θc.m.≈152°±8°, respectively. Several proton resonances in 18Ne were ob served clearly. A further R-matrix analysis of the experimental data is under way to determine the resonant parameters. The present work reports the preliminary results briefly.HE JianJun1, HU Jun1,2, XU ShiWei1, CHEN ZhiQiang1, ZHANG XueYing1, WANG JianSong1, YU XiangQing1, ZHANG LiYong1,2, LI Long1,2, YANG YanYun1,2, MA Peng1,2, ZHANG XueHeng1, HU ZhengGuo1, GUO ZhongYan1, XU Xing1,2, YUAN XiaoHua1, LU Wan1,2, YU YuHong1, ZANG YongDong1,2, TANG ShuWen1,2, YE RuiPing1,2, CHEN JinDa1,2, JIN ShiLun1,2, DU ChengMing1,2, WANG ShiTao1,2, MA JunBing1,2, LIU LongXiang1,2, BAI Zhen1,2, LEI XiangGuo1, SUN ZhiYu1, ZHANG YuHu1, ZHOU XiaoHong1, XU HuShan1, SU Jun3, LI ErTao3, WANG HongWei4, TIAN WenDong4 & LI XiangQing5 1 Institute of Modern Physics (IMP), Chinese Academy of Sciences, Lanzhou 730000, China 2 Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100049, China 3 China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE), Beijing 102413, China 4 Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics (SINAP), Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai 201800, China 5 School of Physics and State Key Laboratory of Nuclear Physics and Technology, Peking University, Beijing 100871, China 2011Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2011,54,S1:0
