1Flavonoid content and radical scavenging activity in fruits of Chinese dwarf cherry(Cerasus humilis) genotypes显示文摘The Chinese dwarf cherry(Cerasus humilis(Bge.) Sok.) is a small shrub with edible fruits. It is native to northern and western China. This species was included as a medicinal plant in the ‘‘Chinese Pharmacopeia'' and has emerged as an economically important crop for fresh fruit consumption, processing into juice and wine and nutraceutical products as well. To gain a better understanding of flavonoid biosynthesis and help develop value added products and better cultivars with greater health benefits, we analyzed total flavonoid content(TFC), composition, and radical scavenging activities in fruit extracts of 16 Chinese dwarf cherry genotypes. Fruit peel TFC ranged from 33.5 to72.8 mg/g REáFW(RE: rutin equivalent, FW: fresh weight)while fruit flesh TFC ranged from 4.3 to 16.9 mg/g REáFW.An HPLC analysis revealed that fruit extracts contained 14 flavonoids with considerable variation in their profiles across genotypes. The most abundant flavonoids in most genotypes were proanthocyanidin B1(PA-B1), proanthocyanidin B2(PA-B2), phloretin 20-O-glucoside(PG), and phloretin 20,40-O-diglucoside(PDG). Principal component analysis showed that PG, PA-B1, and PA-B2 had large,positive factor loading values in the first principal component for each genotype. Increased scavenging activity of2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) radicals was apparent in genotypes ‘Nongda 4', ‘Nongda 3', ‘Nongda 6',‘Wenfenli', and '10-32', suggesting promising applications in the production of nutraceutical products. 2Fishbone-like platinum-nickel nanowires as an efficient electrocatalyst for methanol oxidation显示文摘Platinum(Pt)-based electrocatalyst with low Pt content and high electrocatalytic performance is highly desired in fuel cell applications.Herein,we demonstrated that platinum-nickel(Pt-Ni)nanowires with an average composition of PtNi3 and a fishbone structure can be readily synthesized and used as an efficient electrocatalyst toward methanol oxidation reaction(MOR).The PtNi3 fishbone-like nanowires(PtNi3-FBNWs)present features such as richer Pt on the surface than in the bulk,high-index facets on the rough surface,and polyhedral facets at the ends of side chains.Such compositional and structural features could be determinative to the enhanced performance in the electrocatalysis of MOR.Compared with commercial 20%Pt/carbon black(Pt/C),the specific activity and mass activity of the PtNi3-FBNWs are enhanced by approximately 4.76 and 3.02 times,respectively.The stability of electrocatalysis is significantly improved as well.Such comprehensive enhancement indicates that the PtNi3-FBNWs would be a promising candidate toward MOR in fuel cells.Jinquan Chang Luting Song Yuanqing Xu Yanhong Ma Cheng Liang Wenyu Jiang Yong Zhang 2020Nano Research2020,13,1:3

8High performance streaked X-ray spectrometer for research of laser-produced plasmas显示文摘In order to mitigate the effect of the strong electromagnetic pulse, which produces laser-plasma interactions, we designed a new streaked X-ray spectrometer (SXS) enclosed within a well-sealed, electromag- netic interference-free cavity. The SXS can cover a wide selection of spectral windows using interchangeable Bragg crystals and by appropriate adjustment of the Bragg angle. The SXS has been used to observe time-re- solved X-ray spectrum in the 2.5 keV to 3.5 keV photon-energy range, resulting in a demonstrated spectral res- olution of about 13 at 2960 eV with a time resolution of 10 ps. 9Soft-sensing modeling of chemical oxygen demand in photo-electro-catalytic oxidation treatment of papermaking wastewater显示文摘Photo-electro-catalytic(PEC)oxidation has been widely recognized as an effective technology for advanced treatment of papermaking wastewater.To optimize the oxidation process,it is important of monitor continuously the chemical oxygen demand(COD)of inflow and outflow wastewater.However,online COD sensors are expensive difficult to maintain,and therefore COD is usually analyzed off-line in laboratories in most cases.The objective of this study is to develop an inexpensive method for on-line COD measurement.The oxidation-reduction potential(ORP),pH,and dissolved oxygen(DO)of wastewater were selected as the key parameters,which consists of four different types of artificial neural network(ANNs)methods:multi-layer perceptron neural network(MLP),back propagation neural network(BPNN),radial basis neural network(RBNN)and generalized regression neural network(GRNN).These parameters were applied in the development of COD soft-sensing models.Six batches of papermaking wastewater with different pollution loads were treated with PEC technology over a period of 90 minutes,and a total of 546 data points was collected,including the on-line measurements of ORP,pH and DO,as well as off-line COD data.The 546 data points were divided into training set(410 data,75%of total)and validation set(136 data,25%of total).Four statistical criteria,namely,root mean square error(RMSE),mean absolute error(MAE),mean absolute relative error(MARE),and determination coefficient(R2)were used to assess the performance of the models developed with the training set of data.The comparison of results for the four ANN models for COD soft-sensing indicated that the RBNN model behaved most favorably,which possessed precise and predictable results with R2=0.913 for the validation set.Lastly,the proposed RBNN model was applied to a new batch of PEC oxidation of papermaking wastewater,and the results indicated that the model could be applied successfully for COD soft-sensing for the wastewater.Xuewen Zhang Yuefei Zhu Xiaoquan Chen Wenhao Shen Ryan Lutes 2018Journal of Bioresources and Bioproducts2018,3,2:0
10Genome-wide identification of the mitogen-activated protein kinase kinases in pear and their functional analysis in response to black spot显示文摘The mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)cascade is crucial to plant growth,development,and stress responses.MAPK kinases(MAPKK)play a vital role in linking upstream MAPKK kinases(MAPKKK)with the downstream MAPK.Black spot is one of the most serious fungal diseases of pear which is an important part of the fruit industry in China.The MAPKK genes have been identified in many plants,however,none has been reported in pear(Pyrus bretschneideri).In order to explore whether MAPK gene of pear is related to black spot disease,we designed this experiment.The present study investigated eight putative PbrMAPKK genes obtained from the Chinese white pear genome.The phylogenetic analysis revealed that PbrMAPKK genes were divided into A,B,C,and D groups.These PbrMAPKK genes are randomly distributed on 7 out of 17 chromosomes and mainly originated from the whole-genome duplication(WGD)event.The expression analysis of PbrMAPKK genes in seven pear tissues and the leaves of susceptible and resistant varieties after Alternaria alternata infection by quantitative real-time PCR(qRT-PCR)identified seven candidate genes associated with resistance.Furthermore,virus-induced gene silencing(VIGS)indicated that PbrMAPKK6 gene enhanced resistance to pear black spot disease in pear.Zan Zhang Qiming Chen Luting Jia Ming Qian Qinghai Qiao Xiaosan Huang Shaoling Zhang 2023Horticultural Plant Journal2023,9,4:0
11Integrated hetero-nanoelectrodes for plasmon-enhanced electrocatalysis of hydrogen evolution显示文摘Hetero-nanostructures of plasmonic metals and semiconductors have attracted increasing attention in the field of photocatalysis.However,most of the hetero-nanostructured catalysts are randomly arranged and therefore require comprehensive structural design for optimizing their properties.Herein,we report the robust construction of hierarchical hetero-nanostructures where gold(Au)nanorods and molybdenum disulfide(Mo S_(2))quantum sheets(QSs)are integrated in highly ordered arrays.Such construction is achieved through porous anodic alumina(PAA)template-assisted electrodeposition.The as-fabricated hetero-nanostructures demonstrate exciting electrocatalysis towards hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).Both plasmon-induced hot-electron injection and plasmonic scattering/reabsorption mechanisms are determinative to the enhanced electrocatalytic performances.Notably,broadband photoresponses of HER activity in the visible range are observed,indicating their superiority compared with random systems.Such integrated hetero-nanoelectrodes could provide a powerful platform for conversion and utilization of solar energy,meanwhile would greatly prompt the production and exploration of ordered nanoelectrodes.Wenyu Jiang Xianxin Wu Jinquan Chang Yanhong Ma Luting Song Zhexue Chen Cheng Liang Xinfeng Liu Yong Zhang 2021Nano Research2021,14,4:0
12Waterborne sub-lethal exposure to perfluorobutanesulfonate causes intestinal dysbiosis in tadpoles of Lithobates catesbeianus显示文摘Perfluorobutanesulfonate (PFBS) is a ubiquitous pollutant in the aquatic environment, but its toxic effects andmechanisms on amphibian species remain largely unknown. In the present study, tadpoles (Lithobates catesbeianus) were exposed to various concentrations of PFBS (0, 1, 3, 10, and 30 μg/L) for 14 days, with the goal ofunveiling the impairment of intestinal health. Histopathological examination showed that sub-lethal exposure oftadpoles to PFBS at concentrations as low as 3 μg/L could result in the injury of intestinal structures. In a clearconcentration-dependent manner, the expressions of epithelial barrier components (i.e., Claudin 1 gene and tightjunction protein 2) were significantly decreased in PFBS-exposed intestines, while the intestinal content oflipopolysaccharide (LPS) and transcriptions of downstream responsive genes (e.g., TLR4, MyD88, and NF-κB) wereconcurrently significantly increased by exposure to 3, 10, and 30 μg/L of PFBS. As a consequence, the number ofeosinophils and expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (e.g., IL-1β and TNF-α) were increased therein.Furthermore, PFBS exposure induced oxidative stress in intestinal tissues by increasing the level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and suppressing antioxidant capacity. The transcriptional levels of CytoC and Bax genes aswell as activities of caspase 9 and caspase 3 enzymes were remarkably increased, while the transcript abundanceof Bcl-2 was down-regulated significantly after PFBS exposure, thereby favoring apoptosis in tadpole intestines.PFBS sub-lethal exposure also drove the composition of intestinal microbiota to a dysbiosis status. Correlationanalysis further revealed that the relative abundance of members of the genus Bosea was positively related withthe contents of LPS and IL-1β. 15The effect of urbanization and exposure to multiple environmental factors on life-history traits and breeding success of Barn Swallows(Hirundo rustica)across China显示文摘In addition to landscape changes,urbanization also brings about changes in environmental factors that can affect wildlife.Despite the common referral in the published literature to multiple environmental factors such as light and noise pollution,there is a gap in knowledge about their combined impact.We developed a multidimensional environmental framework to assess the effect of urbanization and multiple environmental factors(light,noise,and temperature)on life-history traits and breeding success of Barn Swallows(Hirundo rustica)across rural to urban gradients in four locations spanning over 2500 km from North to South China.Over a single breeding season,we measured these environmental factors nearby nests and quantified landscape urbanization over a 1km~2radius.We then analysed the relationships between these multiple environmental factors through a principal component analysis and conducted spatially explicit linear-mixed effects models to assess their effect on lifehistory traits and breeding success.We were particularly interested in understanding whether and how Barn Swallows were able to adapt to such environmental conditions associated with urbanization.The results show that there is significant variation in the exposure to environmental conditions experienced by Barn Swallows breeding across urbanization gradients in China.These changes and their effects are complex due to the behavioural responses ameliorating potential negative effects by selecting nesting sites that minimize exposure to environmental factors.However,significant relationships between landscape urbanization,exposure to environmental factors,and life-history traits such as laying date and clutch size were pervasive.Still,the impact on breeding success was,at least in our sample,negligible,suggesting that Barn Swallows are extremely adaptable to a wide range of environmental features.Yanyan Zhao Emilio Pagani-Nú~nez Yu Liu Xiaoying Xing Zhiqiang Zhang Guangji Pan Luting Song Xiang Li Zhuoya Zhou Yanqiu Chen Donglai Li Yang Liu Rebecca J.Safran 2022Avian Research2022,13,3:0
