| 1 | Dietary modulation of endogenous host defense peptide synthesis as an alternative approach to in-feed antibiotics显示文摘Traditionally, antibiotics are included in animal feed at subtherapeutic levels for growth promotion and disease prevention.However, recent links between in-feed antibiotics and a rise in antibiotic-resistant pathogens have led to a ban of all antibiotics in livestock production by the European Union in January 2006 and a removal of medically important antibiotics in animal feeds in the United States in January 2017.An urgent need arises for antibiotic alternatives capable of maintaining animal health and productivity without triggering antimicrobial resistance.Host defense peptides(HDP) are a critical component of the animal innate immune system with direct antimicrobial and immunomodulatory activities.While in-feed supplementation of recombinant or synthetic HDP appears to be effective in maintaining animal performance and alleviating clinical symptoms in the context of disease, dietary modulation of the synthesis of endogenous host defense peptides has emerged as a cost-effective,antibiotic-alternative approach to disease control and prevention.Several different classes of smallmolecule compounds have been found capable of promoting HDP synthesis.Among the most efficacious compounds are butyrate and vitamin D.Moreover, butyrate and vitamin D synergize with each other in enhancing HDP synthesis.This review will focus on the regulation of HDP synthesis by butyrate and vitamin D in humans, chickens, pigs, and cattle and argue for potential application of HDP-inducing compounds in antibiotic-free livestock production. | Kelsy Robinson Xi Ma Yulan Liu Shiyan Qiao Yongqing Hou Guolong Zhang | 2018 | Animal Nutrition2018,,2: | 9 |
| 2 | The uplifting process of the Bogda Mountain during the Cenozoic and its tectonic implication显示文摘The Tianshan Mountains have undergone its initial orogeny, extension adjusting and re-orogeny since the Late Paleozoic. The re-orogeny and uplifting process of the orogeny in the Mesozoic and Cenozoic are two of most important events in the geological evolution of Euro-Asian continent, which resulted in the formation of the present range-and-basin pattern in topography of the Tianshan Mountains and its adjacent areas. Thermochronology results by the method of fission-track dating of apatite suggest three obvious uplifting stages of the Bogad Mountain Chain re-orogeny during the Cenozoic, i.e. 5.6-19 Ma, 20-30 Ma, and 42-47 Ma. The strongest uplifting stage of the mountain is the second one at 20 -30 Ma, when the mountain uplifted as a whole, and the beginning of re-orogeny was no less than 65 Ma. Furthermore, our studies also show that the uplifting types of the mountain are variable in the dif-ferent time periods, including uplifting of mountain as a whole and differential uplifting. | 3 | Surgical Therapeutic Strategy for Non-small Cell Lung Cancer with Mediastinal Lymph Node Metastasis (N2)显示文摘Background and objective Approximately 30% of patients who are diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are classified as N2 on the basis of metastasis to the mediastinal lymph nodes. The effectiveness of surgery for these patients remains controversial. Although surgeries in recent years are proved to be effective to some extent,yet due to many reasons,5-year survival rate after surgery varies greatly from patient to patient. Thus it is necessary to select patients who have a high probability of being be cured through an operation,who are suitable to receive surgery and the best surgical methods so as to figure out the conditions under which surgical treatment can be chosen and the factors that may influence prognosis. Methods 165 out of 173 patients with N2 NSCLC were treated with surgery in our department from January 1999 to May 2003,among whom 130 were male,43 female and the sex ratio was 3:1,average age 53,ranging from 29 to 79. The database covers the patients’ complete medical history including the information of their age,sex,location and size of tumor,date of operation,surgical methods,histologic diagnosis,clinical stage,post-operative TNM stage,neoadjuvant treatment and chemoradiotherapy. The methods of clinical stage verification include chest X-ray,chest CT,PET,mediastinoscopy,bronchoscope (+?),brain CT or MRI,abdominal B ultrasound (or CT),and bone ECT. The pathological classification was based on the international standard for lung cancer (UICC 1997). Survival time was analyzed from the operation date to May 2008 with the aid of SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) program. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis,Log-rank test and Cox multiplicity were adopted respectively to obtain patients’ survival curve,survival rate and the impact possible factors may have on their survival rate. Results The median survival time was 22 months,with 3-year survival rate reaching 28.1% and 5-year survival rate reaching 19.0%. Age,sex,different histological classification and postoperative chemoradiotherapy seem to have no correlation with 5-year survival rate. In all N2 subtypes,5-year survival rate is remarkably higher for unexpected N2 discovered at thoractomy and proven N2 stage before preoperative work-up and receive a mediastinal down-staging after induction therapy (P<0.01),reaching 30.4% and 27.3% respectively. 5-year survival rate for single station lymph node metastasis were 27.8%,much higher compared with 9.3% for multiple stations (P<0.001). Induction therapy which downstages proven N2 in 73.3% patients gains them the opportunity of surgery. The 5-year survival rate were 23.6% and 13.0% for patients who had complete resection and those who had incomplete resection (P<0.001). Patients who underwent lobectomy (23.2%) have higher survival rate,less incidence rate of complication and mortality rate,compared with pneumonectomy (14.8%) (P<0.01). T4 patients has a 5-year survival rate as low as 11.1%,much less than T1 (31.5%) and T2 (24.3%) patients (P=0.01). It is noted through Cox analysis that completeness of resection,number of positive lymph node stations and primary T status have significant correlativity with 5-year survival rate. Conclusion It is suggested that surgery (lobectomy preferentially) is the best solution for T1 and T2 with primary tumor have not invaded pleura or the distance to carina of trachea no less than 2 cm,unexpected N2 discovered at thoractomy when a complete resection can be applied,and proven N2 discovered during preoperative work-up and is down-staged after induction therapy. Surgical treatment is the best option,lobectomy should be prioritized in operational methods since ite rate of complication and morality are lower than that of pneumonectomy. Patients’ survival time will not benefit from surgery if they are with lymph nodes metastasis of multiple stations (Bulky N2 included) and T4 which can be partially removed. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy increases long-term survival rate of those with N2 proven prior to surgery. | 5 | Induction of seed germination in Orobanche spp.by extracts of traditional Chinese medicinal herbs显示文摘The co-evolution of Orobanche spp.and their hosts within the same environment has resulted in a high degree of adaptation and effective parasitism whereby the host releases parasite germination stimulants,which are likely to be unstable in the soil.Our objective was to investigate whether extracts from non-host plants,specifically,Chinese medicinal plants,could stimulate germination of Orobanche spp.Samples of 606 Chinese medicinal herb species were extracted with deionized water and methanol.The extracts were used to induce germination of three Orobanche species;Orobanche minor,Orobanche cumana,and Orobanche aegyptiaca.O.minor exhibited a wide range of germination responses to the various herbal extracts.O.cumana and O.aegyptiaca exhibited an intermediate germination response to the herbal extracts.O.minor,which has a narrow host spectrum,showed higher germination rates in response to different herbal extracts compared with those of O.cumana and O.aegyptiaca,which have a broader host spectrum.Methanolic extracts of many Chinese herbal species effectively stimulated seed germination among the Orobanche spp.,even though they were not the typical hosts.The effective herbs represent interesting examples of potential trap crops.Different countries can also screen extracts from indigenous herbaceous plants for their ability to induce germination of Orobanche spp.seeds.The use of such species as trap plants could diminish the global soil seed bank of Orobanche. | MA YongQing ZHANG Wei DONG ShuQi REN XiangXiang AN Yu LANG Ming | 2012 | Science China(Life Sciences)2012,55,3: | 6 |
| 6 | Functional assembly of root-associated microbial consortia improves nutrient efficiency and yield in soybean显示文摘Root-associated microbes are critical for plant growth and nutrient acquisition. However, scant information exists on optimizing communities of beneficial root-associated microbes or the mechanisms underlying their interactions with host plants. In this report, we demonstrate that rootassociated microbes are critical influencers of host plant growth and nutrient acquisition. Three synthetic communities(SynComs) were constructed based on functional screening of 1,893 microbial strains isolated from root-associated compartments of soybean plants. Functional assemblage of SynComs promoted significant plant growth and nutrient acquisition under both N/P nutrient deficiency and sufficiency conditions.Field trials further revealed that application of SynComs stably and significantly promoted plant growth, facilitated N and P acquisition, and subsequently increased soybean yield. Among the tested communities, SynCom1 exhibited the greatest promotion effect, with yield increases of up to 36.1% observed in two field sites. Further RNA-seq implied that SynCom application systemically regulates N and P signaling networks at the transcriptional level, which leads to increased representation of important growth pathways, especially those related to auxin responses. | 7 | Tracheal Carinal Reconstruction and Bronchovasculoplasty in Central Type Bronchogenic Carcinoma显示文摘Background and objective Because radical resection for lung cancer invading the initial borderline of different lobes and carina is difficult,we tried to analyse the variables of successful tracheal carinoplasty and bronchovasculoplasty to discover a proper approach for appropriate early and long term results. Methods Of 1 399 lung resections for primary lung cancer performed in our hospital from April 1985 to December 2006,133 underwent bronchoplastic surgeries,including 15 carinoplasty cases and 118 sleeve lobectomy (SL) cases,and 118 pneumoectomy (PN) cases were compared at the same time. Results Complications occurred in 18 cases,with no operative related mortality. For all patients,the 1 year,3 year,and 5 year survival rates were 79.8%,56.7% and 31.2%,respectively. The 5 year survival rate by cancer stage was 69.2% for Ib,40.6% for IIb,19.6% for IIIa,and 16.6% for IIIa (N2). | 8 | Dynamic changes of phosphatidylinositol and phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate levels modulate H^(+)-ATPase and Na^(+)/H^(+) antiporter activities to maintain ion homeostasis in Arabidopsis under salt stress显示文摘Plant metabolites are dynamically modified and distributed in response to environmental changes.How-ever,it is poorly understood how metabolic change functions in plant stress responses.Maintaining ion ho-meostasis under salt stress requires coordinated activation of two types of central regulators:plasma membrane(PM)H^(+)-ATPase and Na^(+)/H^(+) antiporter.In this study,we used a bioassay-guided isolation approach to identify endogenous small molecules that affect PM H^(+)-ATPase and Na^(+)/H^(+) antiporter activities and identified phosphatidylinositol(PI),which inhibits PM H^(+)-ATPase activity under non-stress conditions in Arabidopsis by directly binding to the C terminus of the PM H^(+)-ATPase AHA2.Under salt stress,the phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate-to-phosphatidylinositol(PI4P-to-PI)ratio increased,and PI4P bound and activated the PM Na^(+)/H^(+) antiporter.PI prefers binding to the inactive form of PM H^(+)-ATPase,while PI4P tends to bind to the active form of the Na^(+)/H^(+) antiporter.Consistent with this,pis1 mutants,with reduced levels of PI,displayed increased PM H^(+)-ATPase activity and salt stress toler-ance,while the pi4kβ1 mutant,with reduced levels of PI4P,displayed reduced PM Na^(+)/H^(+) antiporter activity and salt stress tolerance.Collectively,our results reveal that the dynamic change between PI and PI4P in response to salt stress in Arabidopsis is crucial for maintaining ion homeostasis to protect plants from un-favorable environmental conditions. | Yongqing Yang Xiuli Han Liang Ma Yujiao Wu Xiao Liu Haiqi Fu Guoyong Liu Xiaoguang Lei Yan Guo | 2021 | Molecular Plant2021,14,12: | 4 |
| 9 | An SEU-Tolerant Approach for Space-Borne Viterbi Decoders显示文摘In the space environment, Viterbi decoder implemented on SRAM-based FPGA is sensitive to Single event upsets(SEUs), which may lead to functional failure of the decoder. Conventional SEU mitigation techniques like modular redundancy could not exploit the characters of Viterbi decoders,therefore could not provide optimized SEU tolerance when the device resource utilization cost is a constraint. Leveraging the properties of the decoding algorithm, three effective mitigation techniques are adopted, including structure optimization, Error detection and correction(EDAC) for Block RAM(BRAM) protection, and Partial triple-modular redundancy(PTMR), which are applied to the modules of the decoder in accordance with their characteristics. | 11 | Extracts from cotton over the whole growing season induce Orobanche cumana(sunflower broomrape) germination with significant cultivar interactions显示文摘Five cotton cultivars and their parents were tested for induction of germination of Orobanche cumana Wallr.(sunflower broomrape) seeds in pot and field experiments. Germination rates induced by cotton root extracts were the highest followed by stem extracts then leaf extracts. Cotton seedlings at the six-leaf stage induced higher germination than seedling at the two-and four-leaf stage, in all five cotton cultivars and their parents. In the field, the highest concentration of cotton root extracts gave the highest germination rate of O. cumana, and the lowest concentration of cotton root extracts gave the lowest germination rate. Methanol extracts of cotton rhizosphere soil gave the highest germination of O. cumana. In general,the root, stem and leaf extracts were more active at the sixleaf stage than other seedling stages. In conclusion,extracts of cotton rhizosphere soil and tissues have high activity in the seedling stage. | 13 | Study on the most early glass eye-beads in China unearthed from Xu Jialing Tomb in Xichuan of Henan Province,China显示文摘The eye-beads dating to the early Warring States Period unearthed from Xu Jialing Tomb in Xichuan County of Henan Province, China are studied. The structure and the chemical composition of the sam- ples are analysed by the undestructive methods of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the Proton Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE) technique. The results show that these eye-beads are of glass state. Its chemical composition indicates that they belong to the glass of soda lime silicate system (Na2O-CaO-SiO2). | 14 | Photocatalytic and Luminescent Properties of SrMoO_4 Phosphors Prepared via Hydrothermal Method with Different Stirring Speeds显示文摘To probe the potential utilities in the photocatalyst and luminescent materials,a series of SrMoO_4 samples have been prepared via the hydrothermal preparation with different stirring speeds.These SrMoO_4 samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction analysis,scanning electron microscopy,UV–diffuse reflection spectroscopy(UV–vis).It has been found that the lattice parameters and [Mo O4] tetrahedron distortion of SrMoO_4 samples are increased with the increased stirring speed in the process of hydrothermal preparation.By changing the stirring speeds,spindle and succulent-like morphologies have been obtained.UV–vis results show that the band gaps of SrMoO_4 samples are sensitive to the stirring speed.As for the luminescent and photocatalytic properties,our experimental results clearly suggest that,compared with those samples without stirring,the luminescent and photocatalytic activities are enhanced with stirring in the hydrothermal preparation.The photodegradation of methyl blue(MB) over SrMoO_4 system increases from 30% to 50% with stirring,which may be related to small band gaps and porous surfaces.Our results indicate that stirring may be one important technique to improve the photocatalytic properties,especially in the process of hydrothermal method. | Yanan Zhu Ganhong Zheng Zhenxiang Dai Lingyun Zhang Yongqing Ma | 2017 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2017,33,1: | 2 |
