1Synergistic effect between few layer graphene and carbon nanotube supports for palladium catalyzing electrochemical oxidation of alcohols显示文摘Few layer graphene (FLG), multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and a nanotube-graphene composite (CNT-FLG) were used as supports for palladium nanoparticles. The catalysts, which were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction, were used as anodes in the electrooxidation of ethanol, ethylene glycol and glycerol in half cells and in passive direct ethanol fuel cells. Upon Pd deposition, a stronger interaction was found to occur between the metal and the nanotube-graphene composite and the particle size was significantly smaller in this material (6.3 nm), comparing with nanotubes and graphene alone (8 and 8.4 nm, respectively). Cyclic voltammetry experiments conducted with Pd/CNT, Pd/FLG and Pd/CNT-FLG in 10 wt% ethanol and 2 M KOH solution, showed high specific currents of 1.48, 2.29 and 2.51 mA μg-1 Pd , respectively. Moreover, the results obtained for ethylene glycol and glycerol oxidation highlighted the excellent electrocatalytic activity of Pd/CNT-FLG in terms of peak current density (up to 3.70 mA μg-1 Pd for ethylene glycol and 1.84 mA μg-1 Pd for glycerol, respectively). Accordingly, Pd/CNT-FLG can be considered as the best performing one among the electrocatalysts ever reported for ethylene glycol oxidation, especially considering the low metal loading used in this work. Direct ethanol fuel cells at room temperature were studied by obtaining power density curves and undertaking galvanostatic experiments. The power density outputs using Pd/CNT, Pd/FLG and Pd/CNT-FLG were 12.1, 16.3 and 18.4 mW cm2 , respectively. A remarkable activity for ethanol electrooxidation was shown by Pd/CNT-FLG anode catalyst. In a constant current experiment, the direct ethanol fuel cell containing Pd/CNT-FLG could continuously deliver 20 mA cm2 for 9.5 h during the conversion of ethanol into acetate of 30%, and the energy released from the cell was about 574 J.Bruno F. 8Selection of Bacillus thuringiensis strains in citrus and their pathogenicity to Diaphorina citri (Hemiptera: Liviidae) nymphs显示文摘Bacillus thuringiensis(Bt)toxins are effective in controlling insect pests either through the spraying of products or when expressed in transgenic crops.The discovery of endophytic Bt strains opened new perspectives for studies aimed at the control of sap‐sucking insects,such as the Asian citrus psyllid Diaphorina citri Kuwayama(Hemiptera:Liviidae),a vector of“Candidatus Liberibacter spp.,”associated with citrus huanglongbing(HLB).In this study,translocation of endophytic Bt strains in citrus seedlings inoculated with Bt suspension delivered by soil‐drench,and their systemic pathogenicity to D.citri nymphs were investigated.The pathogenicity of three wild‐type Bt strains against D.citri third‐instar nymphs was demonstrated.Among the 10 recombinant strains tested(each of them harboring a single cry or cyt gene),3 can be highlighted,causing 42%–77%and 66%–90%nymphal mortality at 2 and 5 d after inoculation,respectively.The isolation of Bt cells from young citrus shoots and dead nymphs,and PCR performed with specific primers,confirmed the involvement of the Bt strains in the psyllid mortality.This is the first report showing the translocation of Bt strains from citrus seedling roots to shoots and their potential to control D.citri nymphs that fed on these soil‐drench inoculated seedlings.The Bt strains that caused the highest mortality rates have the potential to be used as bioinsecticides to control D.citri and the identified genes can be used for the production of transgenic Bt citrus.Silvia de Oliveira Dorta Juliana Balbinotte Rose Monnerat Joao Roberto Spotti Lopes Tatiane da Cunha Odimar Zanuzo Zanardi Marcelo Pedreira de Miranda Marcos Antonio Machado Juliana de Freitas-Astua 2020Insect Science2020,27,3:1

19Study of the roles of caspase-3 and nuclear factor kappa B in myenteric neurons in a P2X7 receptor knockout mouse model of ulcerative colitis显示文摘BACKGROUND The literature indicates that the enteric nervous system is affected in inflammatory bowel diseases(IBDs)and that the P2X7 receptor triggers neuronal death.However,the mechanism by which enteric neurons are lost in IBDs is unknown.AIM To study the role of the caspase-3 and nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB)pathways in myenteric neurons in a P2X7 receptor knockout(KO)mouse model of IBDs.METHODS Forty male wild-type(WT)C57BL/6 and P2X7 receptor KO mice were euthanized 24 h or 4 d after colitis induction by 2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid(colitis group).Mice in the sham groups were injected with vehicle.The mice were divided into eight groups(n=5):The WT sham 24 h and 4 d groups,the WT colitis 24 h and 4 d groups,the KO sham 24 h and 4 d groups,and the KO colitis 24 h and 4 d groups.The disease activity index(DAI)was analyzed,the distal colon was collected for immunohistochemistry analyses,and immunofluorescence was performed to identify neurons immunoreactive(ir)for calretinin,P2X7 receptor,cleaved caspase-3,total caspase-3,phospho-NF-κB,and total NF-κB.We analyzed the number of calretinin-ir and P2X7 receptor-ir neurons per ganglion,the neuronal profile area(μm^(2)),and corrected total cell fluorescence(CTCF).RESULTS Cells double labeled for calretinin and P2X7 receptor,cleaved caspase-3,total caspase-3,phospho-NF-κB,or total NF-κB were observed in the WT colitis 24 h and 4 d groups.The number of calretinin-ir neurons per ganglion was decreased in the WT colitis 24 h and 4 d groups compared to the WT sham 24 h and 4 d groups,respectively(2.10±0.13 vs 3.33±0.17,P<0.001;2.92±0.12 vs 3.70±0.11,P<0.05),but was not significantly different between the KO groups.The calretinin-ir neuronal profile area was increased in the WT colitis 24 h group compared to the WT sham 24 h group(312.60±7.85 vs 278.41±6.65,P<0.05),and the nuclear profile area was decreased in the WT colitis 4 d group compared to the WT sham 4 d group(104.63±2.49 vs 117.41±1.14,P<0.01).The number of P2X7 receptor-ir neurons per ganglion was decreased in the WT colitis 24 h and 4 d groups compared to the WT sham 24 h and 4 d groups,respectively(19.49±0.35 vs 22.21±0.18,P<0.001;20.35±0.14 vs 22.75±0.51,P<0.001),and no P2X7 receptor-ir neurons were observed in the KO groups.Myenteric neurons showed ultrastructural changes in the WT colitis 24 h and 4 d groups and in the KO colitis 24 h group.The cleaved caspase-3 CTCF was increased in the WT colitis 24 h and 4 d groups compared to the WT sham 24 h and 4 d groups,respectively(485949±14140 vs 371371±16426,P<0.001;480381±11336 vs 378365±4053,P<0.001),but was not significantly different between the KO groups.The total caspase-3 CTCF,phospho-NF-κB CTCF,and total NF-κB CTCF were not significantly different among the groups.The DAI was recovered in the KO groups.Furthermore,we demonstrated that the absence of the P2X7 receptor attenuated inflammatory infiltration,tissue damage,collagen deposition,and the decrease in the number of goblet cells in the distal colon.CONCLUSION Ulcerative colitis affects myenteric neurons in WT mice but has a weaker effect in P2X7 receptor KO mice,and neuronal death may be associated with P2X7 receptor-mediated caspase-3 activation.The P2X7 receptor can be a therapeutic target for IBDs.Henrique Inhauser Riceti Magalhães Felipe Alexandre Machado Roberta Figueiroa Souza Marcos Antônio Ferreira Caetano Vanessa Ribeiro Figliuolo Robson Coutinho-Silva Patricia Castelucci 2023World Journal of Gastroenterology2023,29,22:0
20Does bilioenteric anastomosis impair results of liver resection in primary intrahepatic lithiasis?显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the long-term results of liver resection for the treatment of primary intrahepatic lithiasis.Prognostic factors,especially the impact of bilioenteric anastomosis on recurrence of symptoms were assessed.METHODS:Forty one patients with intrahepatic stones and parenchyma fibrosis/atrophy and/or biliary stenosis were submitted to liver resection.Resection was associated with a Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy in all patients with bilateral stones and in those with unilateral disease and dilation of the extrahepatic biliary duct(>2 cm).Late results and risk factors for recurrence of symptoms or stones were evaluated.RESULTS:There was no operative mortality.After a mean follow-up of 50.3 mo,good late results were observed in 82.9% of patients;all patients submitted to liver resection alone and 58.8% of those submitted to liver resection and hepaticojejunostomy were free of symptoms(P=0.0006).Patients with unilateral and bilateral disease showed good late results in 94.1% and 28.6%,respectively(P<0.001).CONCLUSION:Recurrence of symptoms in patients with hepaticojejunostomy showed that this may not be the ideal solution.Further studies are needed to establish the best treatment for patients with bilateral stones or unilateral disease and a dilated extrahepatic duct.Paulo Herman Marcos V Perini Vincenzo Pugliese Julio Cesar Pereira Marcel Autran C Machado William A Saad Luiz AC D'Albuquerque Ivan Cecconello 2010World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,27:0
