Aquatic exercise program-modulated oxidative stress markers in patients with Parkinson's disease显示文摘Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disease.Oxidative stress,i.e.,the imbalance between the generation of reactive oxygen species and the antioxidant defense capacity of the body, plays an important role in the pathogenesis of this disease.Physical exercise can regulate oxidative stress. The purpose of this study was to analyze the short-and long-term effects of an aquatic exercise program on oxidative stress levels in patients with Parkinson's disease. The aquatic exercise program was carried out during 1 month with two sessions per week(1 hour/session).Blood samples were collected at four different time points:pre-intervention,immediately,48 hours, and 30 days after the first session of aquatic exercise program. Our results revealed that water-based programs modulated antioxidant enzyme activity, increased superoxide dismutase activity, reduced catalase activity, and increased the ratio of superoxide dismutase activity to catalase activity in patients with Parkinson's disease.Compared with pre-intervention and 48 hours after the first session of aquatic exercise program, superoxide dismutase activity was higher and catalase activity was lower immediately and 30 days after the first session. Our results demonstrated that aquatic exercise program could modulate oxidative stress, mainly by the effect of antioxidant enzyme activity. These results could better help understand the target of oxidative stress in Parkinson's disease. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Centro Universitário Metodista IPA(approval No.1.373.911)on August 9,2019 and registered with REBEC(registration number:RBR-6 NJ4 MK). | Caroline Dani Isabel Teixeira Proenca Jessica Marinho Pamela Peccin Ivy Reichert Vital da Silva Simone Nique Vera Striebel Daniela Pochmann Viviane Rostirola Elsner | 2020 | Neural Regeneration Research2020,15,11: | 4
Toxicity assessment of polyethylene microplastics in combination with a mix of emerging pollutants on Physalaemus cuvieri tadpoles显示文摘Studies in recent years have shown that aquatic pollution by microplastics(MPs)can be considered to pose additional stress to amphibian populations. However, our knowledge of how MPs affect amphibians is very rudimentary, and even more limited is our understanding of their effects in combination with other emerging pollutants. Thus,we aimed to evaluate the possible toxicity of polyethylene MPs(PE-MPs)(alone or in combination with a mix of pollutants)on the health of Physalaemus cuvieri tadpoles. After 30 days of exposure, multiple biomarkers were measured, including morphological, biometric, and developmental indices, behavioral parameters, mutagenicity, cytotoxicity, antioxidant and cholinesterase responses,as well as the uptake and accumulation of PE-MPs in animals.Based on the results, there was no significant change in any of the parameters measured in tadpoles exposed to treatments, but induced stress was observed in tadpoles exposed to PE-MPs combined with themixture of pollutants, reflecting significant changes in physiological and biochemical responses.Through principal component analysis(PCA)and integrated biomarker response(IBR)assessment, effects induced by pollutants in each test group were distinguished, confirming that the exposure of P.cuvieri tadpoles to the PE-MPs in combination with a mix of emerging pollutants induces an enhanced stress response, although the uptake and accumulation of PE-MPs in these animalswas reduced. Thus, our study provides newinsight into the danger to amphibians of MPs coexisting with other pollutants in aquatic environments. | Amanda Pereira da Costa Araújo Thiarlen Marinho da Luz Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim Ahmed Mir Mohammad Ali Md.Mostafizur Rahman Bojan Nataraj Daniela de Melo e Silva DamiàBarceló Guilherme Malafaia | 2023 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2023,,5: | 2
Dietary approach in the treatment of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease显示文摘Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) has been identified as one of the most prevalent chronic liver disease in adults and children populations. NAFLD is usually associated with the metabolic syndrome(MS), which is chiefly related to insulin resistance and its consequences. Insulin resistance has a crucial role in the pathogenesis of hepatic steatosis and potentially nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH). Because of the contemporary epidemics of MS and obesity, the burden of NAFLD is also expected to rise. Unhealthy diets, such as the so-called western diet, are enriched in fructose, trans-fatty acids and saturated fat and seem to be associated with the development of NAFLD. In human studies, certain dietary sugars, particularly fructose, are used as a substrate for lipogenesis leading to hepatic fatty infiltration, inflammation, and possibly fibrosis. Other investigations have shown that fat consumption especially cholesterol and trans/saturated fatty acids are also steatogenic and seem to increase visceral adiposity. The identification of specific dietary components that favor the development of NASH could be important for the management of this disorder. This review focuses on the effects of different dietary approaches to prevent and treat NAFLD emphasizing the macronutrients and energy composition. | Silvia Marinho Ferolla Luciana Costa Silva Maria de Lourdes Abreu Ferrari Aloísio Sales da Cunha Flaviano dos Santos Martins Cláudia Alves Couto Teresa Cristina Abreu Ferrari | 2015 | World Journal of Hepatology2015,7,24: | 2

Associations between sociodemographic factors and physical activity and sedentary behaviors in adults with chronic diseases during COVID-19 pandemic显示文摘The pandemic of the new coronavirus(COVID-19)may be affecting the physical activity(PA)level in much of the population. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of physical inactivity and sedentary behavior(SB)among adults with chronic diseases and their associations with sociodemographic factors during the COVID-19 pandemic. This cross-sectional study included 249 participants(age:18-91 years;61.4%female)with chronic conditions and attended the Family Health Strategy program in a small town in Brazil.Data were collected between 2020-07-13 and 2020-07-24 by face-to-face interviews.Self-reported PA,sitting time, chronic diseases, medication use, sociodemographic data, and self-isolation adherence were obtained by questionnaire.During this specific time point of the COVID-19 pandemic,71.5%of participants did not meet the PA recommendations(≥500 METs-min/week),and the prevalence of SB risk(≥4 h sitting)was 62.7%.Adjusted logistic regression indicated that male participants(odds ratio[OR]:1.89[95%CI 1.02-3.53]),living alone(OR:2.92[95%CI 1.03-8.30])or in a two-person household(OR:2.32[95%CI 1.16-4.63]),and those who reported sometimes performing self-isolation(OR:3.07[95%CI 1.47-6.40])were more likely to meet the minimum PA recommendations.Current smokers had a lower odds(OR:0.36[95%CI 0.14-0.95])of meeting the PA recommendations.Older participants(OR:2.18[95%CI 1.06-4.50])and those who had multimorbidity(OR:1.92[95%CI 1.07-3.44])were more likely to have a higher degree of SB.There is an urgent need to mitigate physical inactivity and SB,and public health interventions must take into account sociodemographic status. | Jean Marinho da Silva Rozangela Verlengia JoséJonas de Oliveira Anna Gabriela Silva Vilela Ribeiro Carolina Gabriela Reis Barbosa Uliana Sbeguen Stotzer Alex Harley Crisp | 2020 | Sports Medicine and Health Science2020,2,4: | 0
Antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory activities of leaf extracts from Annona tomentosa R.E.Fr显示文摘OBJECTIVE:Annona tomentosa R.E.Fr is a species not endemic to Brazil that belongs to the phytogeographic areas of the Amazon,Cerrado and Pantanal.Popularly known as'araticum rasteiro'or'araticum de moita',A.tomentosa is edible and tea made from the leaves has been used as an antiinflammatory by native communities. There is no scientific evidence for these uses of A.tomentosa, especially those related to the control of pain and inflammation. For this reason,in the present study we evaluatedthe antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory activities of partitions from the methanolic extract of A.tomentosa leaves(A.tomentosa leaf methanolic extract(ATFM)in hexane partition:ATFM-H;ATFM in dichloromethane partition:ATFM-D;ATFM in ethyl acetate partition:ATFM-Ac;ATFM in butanol partition:ATFM-B)in mice.METHODS:The antinociceptive effects of leaf extracts from A.tomentosa were evaluated by abdominal writhing and tail-flick tests, while the anti-inflammatory effects were evaluated by paw oedema and air-pouch tests. The locomotor activity was evaluated with the open-field test.Furthermore,we evaluated the possible action mechanism of A.tomentosa, using naloxone,nitro-L-arginine methyl ester, glibenclamide, atropine, naltrindole and norbinaltorphimine in tail-flick tests. The productions of tumor necrosis factorα(TNF-α)and interleukin(IL)-1βwere also evaluated.RESULTS:The chromatographic fractionation of the partitions of the methanolic extract from the leaves of A.tomentosa revealed the presence of diterpenes, flavonoids, and steroids compounds. From the analysis of the hexane partition kaurenoic acid was identified as the major component.ATFM-H and ATFM-D had a significant antinociceptive effect in acute pain models in mice. The ATFM-H showed central antinociceptive effect from the involvement of theδopioid receptors, without causing alterations in the locomotor activity of the mice, while ATFM-D was effective in decreasing paw oedema and TNF-α and IL-1β production.CONCLUSION:These results demonstrate that leaf extracts from A.tomentosa present antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects that can to be used in relieving algesic and inflammatory conditions. | Lilian Uchoa Carneiro Ilna Gomes da Silva Mirian Eliza Alves de Souza Wellington da Silva Cortes Mário Geraldo de Carvalho Bruno Guimaraes Marinho | 2017 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2017,15,5: | 0
