| 1 | Mycoplasma infections and different human carcinomas显示文摘AIM To explore relationships between human carcinomas and mycoplasma infection.METHODS Monoclonal antibody PD4, which specifically recognizes a distinct protein from mycoplasma hyorhinis, was used to detect mycoplasma infection in different paraffinembedded carcinoma tissues with immunohistochemistry. PCR was applied to amplify the mycoplasma DNA from the positive samples for confirming immunohistochemistry.RESULTS Fifty of 90 cases (56%) of gastric carcinoma were positive for mycoplasma hyorhinis. In other gastric diseases, the mycoplasma infection ratio was 28% (18/49) in chronic superficial gastritis, 30% (14/ 46) in gastric ulcer and 37% (18/ 49) in intestinal metaplasia. The difference is significant with gastric cancer (X2=12.06, P<0.05). In colon carcinoma, the mycoplasma infection ratio was 55.1% (32/58), but it was 20.9% (10/49) in adenomarous polyp (X2=13.46, P<0.005).Gastric and colon cancers with high differentiation had a higher mycoplasma infection ratio than those with low differentiation (P< 0.05). Mycoplasma infection in esophageal cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer and glioma was 50.9% (27/53), 52.6% (31/ 59), 39.7%(25/63) and 41% (38/91), respectively. The mycoplasma DNA was successfully amplified with the DNA extracted from the cancer tissues that were positive for mycoplasma infection (detected with antibody PD4).CONCLUSION There was high correlation between mycoplasma infection and different cancers, which suggests the possibility of an association between the two. The mechanism involved in oncogenesis by mycoplasma remains unknown. | Su Huang Ji You Li Jan Wu Lin Meng Cheng Chao Shou Beijing Institute for Cancer Research, Peking University School of Oncology, Beijing 100034. | 2 | Caveolin-1 gene silencing promotes the activation of PI3K/AKT dependent on Erα36 and the transformation of MCF10A^(CE)显示文摘ERα36,a variant of estrogen receptor-α,acts as a dominant-negative factor in both estrogen-dependent and estrogen-independent transactivation signaling pathways, and is a key factor in the promotion, progression and prognosis of breast cancers.Caveolin-1,a 22-to 24-kD integral membrane protein, may function as a tumor suppressor in inhibiting of many growth-promoting signaling pathways. It was shown that downregulation of Caveolin-1 strengthens the interaction of ERα and Caveolin-1.In conclusion,Caveolin-1 gene silencing activated the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway in an ERα36-dependent way.Our finding may provide a promising therapeutic target of breast cancer. | FENG Shuang1,WANG Yang1,WANG Xi1,WANG ZhaoYi3,CUI YuYing1,LIU Jing4,ZHAO ChunHui1,JIN Mei1,2 & ZOU Wei1,2 1 College of Life Science,Liaoning Normal University,Dalian 116029,China 2 Liaoning Key Laboratory of Biotechnology and Molecular Drug R&D,Dalian 116029,China 3 Cancer Center,Creighton University,2500 California Plaza,Omaha,NE 68178,USA 4 First Clinical Hospital of Dalian Medical University,Dalian 116011,China | 2010 | Science China(Life Sciences)2010,53,5: | 16 |
| 3 | Clostridium difficile infections in China显示文摘Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) infection has become one of the major hospital-associated infections in West-ern countries in the last two decades. However, there is limited information on the status of C. difficile infection inChinese healthcare settings. Given the large and increasing elderly population and the well-recognized problem ofover-prescribing of broad spectrum antibiotics in China, it is critical to understand the epidemiology and potentialrisk factors that may contribute to C. difficile infection in China. A literature review of available published studies, including those in Chinese language-based journals, was conducted. A review of the currently available literaturesuggested the presence of C. difficile infections in China, but also suggested that these infections were not particu-larly endemic. This finding should lead to better designed and greatly expanded studies to provide a more reliableepidemiologically-based conclusion on the actual status of C. difficile infection in China, including the identifica-tion of any associated risk factors. Such information is ultimately valuable to develop appropriate strategies to pre-vent C. difficile infection and the vast negative impact of such infections in China and other developing countries. | Ke Jin a,b,c,Shixia Wang c,d,Zuhu Huang a,b,c,Shan Lu b,c,daDepartment of Infectious Diseases,bJiangsu Province Key Laboratory in Infectious Diseases,cChina-US Vaccine ResearchCenter, the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University,Nanjing,Jiangsu 210029,China d Department of Medicine,University of Massachusetts Medical School,Worcester,MA 01655,USA. | 2010 | The Journal of Biomedical Research2010,24,6: | 14 |
| 4 | A draft sequence of the rice (Oryza sativa ssp. indica) genome显示文摘The sequence of the rice genome holds fundamental information for its biology, including physiology, genetics, development, and evolution, as well as information on many beneficial phenotypes of economic significance. Using a 'whole genome shotgun' approach, we have pro-duced a draft rice genome sequence of Oryza sativa ssp. in-dica, the major crop rice subspecies in China and many other regions of Asia. The draft genome sequence is constructed from over 4.3 million successful sequencing traces with an accumulative total length of 2214.9 Mb. The initial assembly of the non-redundant sequences reached 409.76 Mb in length, based on 3.30 million successful sequencing traces with a total length of 1797.4 Mb from an indica variant cultivar 93-11, giving an estimated coverage of 95.29% of the rice genome with an average base accuracy of higher than 99%. | 5 | Effects of disinhibition on spatiotemporal pattern of neuronal first recruitment in neuronal networks显示文摘The propagation of neuronal activities is a key feature to understanding information processing in networks. The analysis based on first-spikes of bursts in turn plays an important role in the research of neuronal activity propagation. Our focus here is to investigate how spatiotemporal patterns of neuronal first-spikes are affected by disinhibition. Multi-electrode arrays were used to record stimulation-evoked bursts of multiple neurons in randomly cultured neuronal networks. Both the precise timing of and the rank relationships between first-spikes were analyzed. Compared with evoked bursts in the network's native state, the precise first-spike latencies in its dis-inhibited state are more consistent and the propagation of its bursting activities is much faster. Additional points of interest are that disinhibited neuronal networks can be evoked to generate stable and distinguishable neuronal first recruitment spatiotemporal patterns specific to the stimulation site, and that the disinhibition may cause the original spatiotemporal patterns to change in a heterogeneous manner with regards to different propagation pathways. | Liangbin Pana,b,c,1, Xindong Songa,b,c,1, Guangxin Xiang a,b,c, Jing Zhua,b,c, Jing Cheng a,b,c,d,a Medical Systems Biology Research Center, Tsinghua University School of Medicine, Beijing 100084, China b Department of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, China c National Engineering Research Center for Beijing Biochip Technology, 18 Life Science Parkway, Beijing 102206, China d State Key Laboratory of Biomembrane and Membrane Biotechnology, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, China | 2009 | Progress in Natural Science:Materials International2009,19,5: | 6 |
| 6 | Magnetic resonance imaging of hepatocellular carcinoma induced by diethylnitrosamine in Sprague-Dawley rats显示文摘Diethylnitrosamine (DENA) is able to induce various benign and malignant liver lesions in rats with a high success rate and a low mortality rate. It provides a more appropriate model that better simulates the various lesions occurring in humans than the usual model of tumor implantations. The aim of the present study was to evaluate MRI liver examination in Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats as a routine method to detect hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) nodules induced by DENA and to follow up their growth. METHODS:Hepatic carcinogenesis was induced in 80 male SD rats using oral DENA solution. All animals were imaged for liver tumor detection with a 1.5 Tesla magnet (Siemens Sonata,Erlangen, Germany) using correspondence scan parameters and a radio-frequency knee coil. Macroscopic examinations were performed along the axial MRI sections to evaluate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings, and histopathological assessment was also performed. RESULTS:No false negative results were obtained on MR images. Hepatic tumors in 72 rats were confirmed macro-scopically and 68 rats were detected by MRI till the 20th week. The smallest and the largest nodules detected by MRI were 2 mm and 37 mm in diameter respectively. The agreement rate of MRI with macroscopic observation was 39. 1% and 97. 4% respectively for 2 mm to 5 mm and more than 5 mm nodules. CONCLUSIONS:The hepatic tumor induced by DENA provides a more representative range of tumors for imaging diagnosis and interventional treatment. MRI is the best approach for scrutinizing pathological changes of rat livers in the period of observation. | Department of Radiology, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu 610041, China (Li X, Zhou XP and Guan YS) Department of Radiology, Ruijin Hospieal. | 7 | Impact of virus genotype on interferon treatment of patients with chronic hepatitis C: a multicenter controlled study显示文摘BACKGROUND: Some factors have been reported to besassociated with a greater likelihood of sustained viral re-sponse ( SVR) in the interferon (IFN) treatment of chronichepatitis C. The factors include HCV genotype, HCVRNA level in serum, state of liver disease, baseline bodyweight, age, sex, and race. The aim of this trial was to in-vestigate the influence of HCV genotype on the IFN treat-ment of patients with chronic hepatitis C.METHODS: The genotypes of HCV virus were determinedin the patients with chronic hepatitis C from several hospi-tals of China enrolled into the randomized, opened andcontrolled trial of Peg-IFN alpha-2a (pegasys) treatment, controlled with IFN-α-2a (roferon-A). The serum ALTlevels and HCV RNA concentrations of the patients weredetected before and at the end of treatment and during thefollow-up. The influence of HCV genotype on the IFNtreatment of patients with chronic hepatitis C was analyzedin intention-to-treat (ITT) population.RESULTS: The HCV genotypes of 202 patients were deter-mined. Of these patients, 158(78.22%) were infected withgenotype 1 HCV and 44(21.78%) with genotype non-1.The viral response at the end of treatment (ETVR) andsustained viral response (SVR) rates were 53.80% and25.32% respectively in patients with genotype 1 HCV, butthey were 61.36% and 43.18% in patients with genotypenon-1. The difference of SVR between patients with geno-type 1 HCV and those with genotype non-1 was significant(P =0.021). After being grouped by the used drugs, theETVR rates of patients infected with genotype 1 and non-1HCV were 76.83% and 80.95% in the patients treated withpegasys (P =0.686); but their SVR rates were 35.37% and66.67% (P =0. 01). The viral relapse rate of genotype 1HCV (55.56%) was significantly higher than that of geno-type non-1 HCV (23.53%) (P=0.02). In roferon-A group, the ETVR and SVR rates of patients with genotype 1 HCVwere 28.95% and 14.47% respectively, which were lowerbut not more significant than those of patients with geno-type non-1 HCV (43.48% and 21.74%). Moreover, the vi-ral relapse rate of genotype 1 HCV (72.73%) was higherbut not more significant than that of genotype non-1 HCV(50.00%) (P=0.21).CONCLUSION: HCV genotype could affect the efficacies, mainly sustained responses, of IFN treatment in patientswith chronic hepatitis C, and the effects of IFN are relatedto drugs and therapeutic course. | Yao Xie, Dao-Zhen Xu, Zhi-Meng Lu, Kang-Xian Luo, Ji-Dong Jia, Yu-Ming Wang,Gui-Zhen Zhao, Shu-Lin Zhang and Da-Zhi Zhang Department of Infeetious Diseases , Beijing Ditan Hos-pital, Beijing 100011 , China Department of Infec-tious Diseases, Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai 200025, China De-partment of Infectious Diseases, Naifang Hospital, First Military Medical U-niversity, Guangzhou 510515, China (Luo KX) Center of Liver Disease,Beijing Friendship Hospital, Beijing 100050, China (Jia J D ) Institute ofInfectious Disease, Southwest Hospital, Third Military Medical University,Chongqing 410032, China Department of Infectious Disea-ses, Second Hospital, China Medical University, Shenyang 110004, China Department of Infectious Diseases, First Hospital, Xi’ an Jiao-tong University, Xi’ an 710061 , China ) Liver Disease Centerof Chongqing, Second Hospital, Chongqing Medical University,Chongqing 410010, China | 2004 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2004,3,3: | 2 |
