| 1 | The spatial variation of soil bacterial community assembly processes affects the accuracy of source tracking in ten major Chinese cities显示文摘Urban soils harbor billions of bacterial cells and millions of species.However,the distribution patterns and assembly processes of bacterial communities remain largely uncharacterized in urban soils.It is also unknown if we can use the bacteria to track soil sources to certain cities and districts.Here,Illumina MiSeq sequencing was used to survey soil bacterial communities from 529 random plots spanning 61 districts and 10 major cities in China.Over a 3,000 km range,community similarity declined with increasing geographic distance(Mantel r=0.62),and community composition was clustered by city(R^(2)=0.50).Within cities(<100 km),the aforementioned biogeographic patterns were weakened.Process analysis showed that homogenizing dispersal and dispersal limitation dominated soil bacterial assembly at small and large spatial scales,respectively.Accordingly,the probabilities of accurately tracking random soil sources to certain cities and districts were 90.0% and 66.7%,respectively.When the tested samples originated from cities that were more than 1,265 km apart,the soil sources could be identified with nearly 100% accuracy.Overall,this study demonstrates the strong distance-decay relationship and the clear geographic zoning of urban soil bacterial communities among cities.The varied importance of different community assembly processes at multiple spatial scales strongly affects the accuracy of microbial source tracking. | Teng Yang Yu Shi Jun Zhu Chang Zhao Jianmei Wang Zhiyong Liu Xiao Fu Xu Liu Jiangwei Yan Meiqing Yuan Haiyan Chu | 2021 | Science China(Life Sciences)2021,64,9: | 4 |

| 4 | Strategic design and fabrication of MXenes-Ti_(3)CNCl_(2)@CoS_(2) core-shell nanostructure for high-efficiency hydrogen evolution显示文摘CoS_(2) is considered to be a promising electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).However,its further widespread applications are hampered by the unsatisfactory activity due to relatively high chemisorption energy for hydrogen atom.Herein,theoretical predictions of first-principles calculations reveal that the introduction of a Cl-terminated MXenes-Ti_(3)CNCl_(2) can significantly reduce the HER potential of CoS_(2)-based materials and the Ti_(3)CNCl_(2)@CoS_(2) core–shell nanostructure has Gibbs free energy of hydrogen adsorption(|ΔGH|)close to zero,much lower than that of the pristine CoS_(2) and Ti_(3)CNCl_(2).Inspired by the theoretical predictions,we have successfully fabricated a unique Ti_(3)CNCl_(2)@CoS_(2) core–shell nanostructure by ingeniously coupling CoS_(2) with a Cl-terminated MXenes-Ti_(3)CNCl_(2).Interface-charge transfer between CoS_(2) and Ti_(3)CNCl_(2) results in a higher degree of electronic localization and a formation of chemical bonding.Thus,the Ti_(3)CNCl_(2)@CoS_(2) core–shell nanostructure achieves a significant enhancement in HER activity compared to pristine CoS_(2) and Ti_(3)CNCl_(2).Theoretical calculations further confirm that the partial density of states of CoS_(2) after hybridization becomes more non-localized,and easier to interact with hydrogen ions,thus boosting HER performance.In this work,the success of oriented experimental fabrication of high-efficiency Ti_(3)CNCl_(2)@CoS_(2) electrocatalysts guided by theoretical predictions provides a powerful lead for the further strategic design and fabrication of efficient HER electrocatalysts. | Jizhou Jiang Saishuai Bai Meiqing Yang Jing Zou Neng Li Jiahe Peng Haitao Wang Kun Xiang Song Liu Tianyou Zhai | 2022 | Nano Research2022,15,7: | 2 |
| 5 | A biogeographic map of soil bacterial communities in wheats field of the North China Plain显示文摘The vast diversity of soil bacteria provides essential ecosystem services that support agricultural production.Variation in the diversity and composition of soil biota may have predictive values for soil nutrient cycling and resilience of ecosystem services,thus providing valuable insights to improve food production.The North China Plain(NCP)is one of the world’s key agricultural regions,supplying more than 50% of the cereal consumed in Asia.However,it is unknown whether soil microbial diversity is predictable across the NCP.Using the MiSeq Illumina platform,we examined bacterial community variation in relation to spatial and environmental factors from 243 soils in wheat-maize double cropping rotation fields across the NCP,which cover nearly 0.3 million km^(2).Based on observed bacterial communities and their relationships with environmental factors,we generated a map of bacterial communities across the NCP.The highest bacterial diversity was found in the middle part of the NCP,with most of the variation in diversity attributable to differences in the community similarity of Actinobacteria and Alphaproteobacteria.These findings provide important baseline information for analyzing the relationships between microbial community,soil functionality and crop yields. | Yu Shi Yuntao Li Meiqing Yuan Jonathan M.Adams Xianzhang Pan Yunfeng Yang Haiyan Chu | 2019 | Soil Ecology Letters2019,1,1: | 2 |

| 7 | Rapid and simple spectrophotometric determination of persulfate in water by microwave assisted decolorization of Methylene Blue显示文摘A rapid and simple method for determination of persulfate in aqueous solution was developed. The method is based on the rapid reaction of persulfate with Methylene Blue(MB) via domestic microwave activation, which can promote the activation of persulfate and decolorize MB quickly. The depletion of MB at 644 nm(the maximum absorption wavelength of MB) is in proportion to the increasing concentration of persulfate in aqueous solution. Linear calibration curve was obtained in the range 0–1.5 mmol/L, with a limit of detection of 0.0028 mmol/L. The reaction time is rapid(within 60 sec), which is much shorter than that used for conventional methods. | 9 | Edge reconstruction of layer-dependentβ-In2Se3/MoS2 vertical heterostructures for accelerated hydrogen evolution显示文摘The layer-dependent properties are still unclarified in two-dimensional(2D)vertical heterostructures.In this study,we layer-bylayer deposited semimetalβ-In2Se3 on monolayer MoS2 to form verticalβ-In2Se3/MoS2 heterostructures by chemical vapor deposition.The defect-mediated nucleation mechanism inducesβ-In2Se3 nanosheets to grow on monolayer MoS2,and the layer number of stackedβ-In2Se3 can be precisely regulated from 1 layer(L)to 13 L by prolonging the growth time.Theβ-In2Se3/MoS2 heterostructures reveal tunable type-Ⅱband alignment arrangement by altering the layer number ofβ-In2Se3,which optimizes the internal electron transfer.Meanwhile,the edge atomic structure ofβ-In2Se3 stacking on monolayer MoS2 shows the reconstruction derived from large lattice mismatch(~29%),and the presence ofβ-In2Se3 also further increases the electrical conductivity ofβ-In2Se3/MoS2 heterostructures.Attributed to abundant layer-dependent edge active sites,edge reconstruction,improved hydrophilicity,and high electrical conductivity ofβ-In2Se3/MoS2 heterostructures,the edge ofβ-In2Se3/MoS2 heterostructures exhibits excellent electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution performance.Lower onset potential and smaller Tafel slope can be observed at the edge of monolayer MoS2 coupled with 13-Lβ-In2Se3.Hence,the outstanding conductive layers coupled with edge reconstruction in 2D vertical heterostructures play decisive roles in the optimization of electron energy levels and improvement of layer-dependent catalytic performance. | Gonglei Shao Meiqing Yang Haiyan Xiang Song Luo Xiong-Xiong Xue Huimin Li Xu Zhang Song Liu Zhen Zhou | 2023 | Nano Research2023,16,1: | 0 |
| 10 | Naturally occurring spike mutations influence the infectivity and immunogenicity of SARS-CoV-2显示文摘Mutations in SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern(VOCs)have enhanced transmissibility and immune evasion with respect to current vaccines and neutralizing antibodies(NAbs).How naturally occurring spike mutations affect the infectivity and antigenicity of VOCs remains to be investigated.The entry efficiency of individual spike mutations was determined in vitro using pseudotyped viruses.BALB/c mice were immunized with 2-dose DNA vaccines encoding B.1.1.7,B.1.351,B.1.1.529 and their single mutations.Cellular and humoral immune responses were then compared to determine the impact of individual mutations on immunogenicity.In the B.1.1.7 lineage,Del69–70 and Del 144 in NTD,A570D and P681H in SD1 and S982A and D1118H in S2 significantly increased viral entry,whereas T716I resulted in a decrease.In the B.1.351 lineage,L18F and Del 242–244 in the NTD,K417N in the RBD and A701V in S2 also increased viral entry.S982A weakened the generation of binding antibodies.All sera showed reduced cross-neutralization activity against B.1.351,B.1.617.2(Delta)and B.1.1.529(Omicron BA.1).S982A,L18F,and Del 242–244 hindered the induction of cross-NAbs,whereas Del 69–70,Del144,R246I,and K417N showed the opposite effects.B.1.351 elicited adequate broad cross-NAbs against both B.1.351 and B.1.617.2.All immunogens tested,however,showed low neutralization against circulating B.1.1.529.In addition,T-cell responses were unlikely affected by mutations tested in the spike.We conclude that individual spike mutations influence viral infectivity and vaccine immunogenicity.Designing VOC-targeted vaccines is likely necessary to overcome immune evasion from current vaccines and neutralizing antibodies. | Qiaoli Peng Runhong Zhou Na Liu Hui Wang Haoran Xu Meiqing Zhao Dawei Yang Ka-Kit Au Haode Huang Li Liu Zhiwei Chen | 2022 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2022,19,11: | 0 |
| 11 | Efficacy of comprehensive cognitive health management for Shanghai community older adults with mild cognitive impairment显示文摘Background The management of modifiable risk factors and comorbidities may impact the future trajectory of cognitive impairment,but easy-to-implement management methods are lacking.Aims This study investigated the effects of simple but comprehensive cognitive health management practices on the cognitive function of older adults in the community with normal cognition(NC)and mild cognitive impairment(MCI).Methods The comprehensive cognitive health management programme included a psychiatric assessment of the cognitive risk factors for those in the intervention groups and individualised recommendations for reducing the risks through self-management supported by regular medical professional follow-up.The intervention groups for this study included 84 elderly participants with NC and 43 elderly participants with MCI who received comprehensive cognitive health management.The control groups included 84 elderly participants with NC and 43 elderly participants with MCI who matched the intervention group’s general characteristics and scale scores using the propensity matching score analysis.The Montreal Cognitive Assessment(MoCA)scale and Geriatric Depression Scale(GDS)scores were compared after a 1-year follow-up.Results For older adults with MCI in the intervention group,MoCA scores were higher at the 1-year followup than at baseline(24.07(3.674)vs 22.21(3.052),p=0.002).For the MoCA subscales,the intervention group’s abstract and delayed memory scores had significantly increased during the 1-year follow-up.Furthermore,in a generalised linear mixed model analysis,the interaction effect of group×follow-up was statistically significant for the MCI group(F=6.61,p=0.011;coefficients=5.83).Conclusions After the comprehensive cognitive health management intervention,the older adults with MCI in the community showed improvement at the 1-year follow-up.This preliminary study was the first to demonstrate an easy-to-implement strategy for modifying the cognitive risk factors of elderly individuals with MCI in the community,providing new insight into early-stage intervention for dementia. | Jiayuan Qiu Lu Zhao Shifu Xiao Shaowei Zhang Ling Li Jing Nie Li Bai Shixing Qian Yang Yang Michael Phillips Meiqing Sheng Yuan Fang Xia Li | 2022 | General Psychiatry2022,35,4: | 0 |
| 12 | High expression of BCL6 inhibits the differentiation and development of hematopoietic stem cells and affects the growth and development of chickens显示文摘Background:B-cell CLL/lymphoma 6(BCL6)is a transcriptional master regulator that represses more than 1200 potential target genes.Our previous study showed that a decline in blood production in runting and stunting syndrome(RSS)affected sex-linked dwarf(SLD)chickens compared to SLD chickens.However,the association between BCL6 gene and hematopoietic function remains unknown in chickens.Methods:In this study,we used RSS affected SLD(RSS-SLD)chickens,SLD chickens and normal chickens as research object and overexpression of BCL6 in hematopoietic stem cells(HSCs),to investigate the effect of the BCL6 on differentiation and development of HSCs.Results:The results showed that comparison of RSS-SLD chickens with SLD chickens,the BCL6 was highly expressed in RSS-SLD chickens bone marrow.The bone marrow of RSS-SLD chickens was exhausted and red bone marrow was largely replaced by yellow bone marrow,bone density was reduced,and the levels of immature erythrocytes in peripheral blood were increased.At the same time,the hematopoietic function of HSCs decreased in RSS-SLD chickens,which was manifested by a decrease in the hematopoietic growth factors(HGFs)EPO,SCF,TPO,and IL-3,as well as hemoglobinα1 and hemoglobinβexpression.Moreover,mitochondrial function in the HSCs of RSS-SLD chickens was damaged,including an increase in ROS production,decrease in ATP concentration,and decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential(ΔΨm).The same results were also observed in SLD chickens compared with normal chickens;however,the symptoms were more serious in RSS-SLD chickens.Additionally,after overexpression of the BCL6 in primary HSCs,the secretion of HGFs(EPO,SCF,TPO and IL-3)was inhibited and the expression of hemoglobinα1 and hemoglobinβwas decreased.However,cell proliferation was accelerated,apoptosis was inhibited,and the HSCs entered a cancerous state.The function of mitochondria was also abnormal,ROS production was decreased,and ATP concentration andΔΨm were increased,which was related to the inhibition of apoptosis of stem cells.Conclusions:Taken together,we conclude that the high expression of BCL6 inhibits the differentiation and development of HSCs by affecting mitochondrial function,resulting in impaired growth and development of chickens.Moreover,the abnormal expression of BCL6 might be a cause of the clinical manifestations of chicken comb,pale skin,stunted growth and development,and the tendency to appear RSS in SLD chickens. | Hongmei Li Bowen Hu Shang Hu Wen Luo Donglei Sun Minmin Yang Zhiying Liao Haohui Wei Changbin Zhao Dajian Li Meiqing Shi Qingbin Luo Dexiang Zhang Qinghua Nie Xiquan Zhang | 2021 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2021,12,3: | 0 |

(Orobanchaceae) in Tianshan Mountains of Xinjiang:morphological, anatomical and molecular evidence显示文摘Weedy plants affect the biodiversity and ecosystem function as well as the crop and fodder plant production. However, adequate management requires detailed knowledge of the taxonomic identity of these plants. Here, we focused on a hemiparasitic Pedicularis species(Orobanchaceae), which occurs at high densities and results in significant biomass reductions in forage grasses in Bayanbulak Grassland of Xinjiang. The identity of this target species is not clear, with conflicting reports in publications and in herbarium collections. Hence, clear and management-relevant information on demography and reproductive ecology is difficult to be obtained from the literature. Therefore, we analyzed field and archival materials collected from Xinjiang in order to clarify the identity and distribution of the target species. Morphological analyses suggested that the populations at Bayanbulak Grassland should be Pedicularis kansuensis Maxim. rather than P. verticillata L. which has been accepted in the available literature. Phylogenetic analysis with a combination of three barcodes(mat K, rbc L and trn H-psb A) uniting a clade of P. kansuensis and individuals from Bayanbulak Grassland populations with 100% bootstrap support, confirmed the target species to be P. kansuensis. Anatomical investigations and field observations showed that the target species is an annual or biennial herb, which also fits with the life cycle as P. kansuensis.
