| 1 | Source-to-sink of Late carboniferous Ordos Basin: Constraints on crustal accretion margins converting to orogenic belts bounding the North China Block显示文摘The Upper Carboniferous Benxi Formation of the Ordos Basin is the lowest strata overlying Middle Ordovician above the major ca.150-Myr sedimentary gap that characterizes the entire North China Block(NCB).We apply an integrated analysis of stratigraphy,petrography,and U-Pb dates and Hf isotopes on detrital zircons to investigate its provenance and relationships to the progressive collisions that formed the Xing’an-Mongolia Orogenic Belt to the north and the Qinling Orogenic Belt to the south.The results show that,in addition to regional patterns of siliciclastic influx from these new uplifted sources,the Benxi Formation is composed of two sequences corresponding to long-term glacial-interglacial cycles during the Moscovian to lower Gzhelian stages which drove global changes of eustatic sea level and weathering.The spatio-temporal distribution of sediment isopachs and facies indicate there were two sediment-infilling pulses,during which the southern and the northern Ordos Basin developed tidal-reworked deltas.The age spectra from detrital zircons,trace element patterns and εNd(t)values reveal that the siliciclastics forming the southern delta was sourced in the Qinling Orogenic Belt,whereas the northern delta was derived from the Xing’an-Mongolia Orogenic Belt.The source-to-sink evolution of this Upper Paleozoic system records the progressive development of orogenic belts and uplifts forming on the southern and northern margins of the NCB prior to its collisions with the South China and the Siberian plates,respectively. | Anqing Chen Hao Zou James G.Ogg Shuai Yang Mingcai Hou Xiuwei Jiang Shenglin Xu Xiaoxing Zhang | 2020 | Geoscience Frontiers2020,11,6: | 3 |

| 3 | GhKT2: a novel K^+ transporter gene in cotton(Gossypium hirsutum)显示文摘Potassium is an essential nutrient for plant growth and productivity of crops. K+transporters are important for K+uptake and transport in plants. However,information on the function of K+transporters and K+channels in cotton is limited. The KT/KUP/HAK protein family is essential for a variety of physiological processes in plants, including nutrient acquisition and regulation of development. This study, identified a K+transporter gene,Gh KT2, expressed in the roots of cotton(Gossypium hirsutum) cv. Liaomian17. The deduced transcript of Gh KT2 is highly homologous to Cluster II of KUP/HAK/KT K+transporters and is predicted to contain 11 transmembrane domains. Gh KT2 has been localized to the plasma membrane, and its transcripts were detected in roots, stems, leaves and shoot apices of cotton seedlings.Consistently, b-glucuronidase(GUS) expression driven by the Gh KT2 promoter could be detected in roots, mesophyll cells, and leaf veins in transgenic Arabidopsis. In addition,the expression of Gh KT2 was induced by low K+stress in cotton roots and p Gh KT2::GUS-transgenic Arabidopsis seedlings. The Gh KT2-overexpression Arabidopsis lines plants were larger and showed greater K+accumulation than the wild type(WT) regardless of K+concentration supplied. The net K+influx rate, measured by the noninvasive micro-test technique, in root meristem zone of Gh KT2-transgenic Arabidopsis lines was significantly greater than that of WT. | 6 | Construction of a fluvial facies knowledge graph and its application in sedimentary facies identification显示文摘Lithofacies paleogeography is a data-intensive discipline that involves the interpretation and compilation of sedimentary facies.Traditional sedimentary facies analysis is a labor-intensive task with the added complexity of using unstructured knowledge and unstandardized terminology.Therefore,it is very difficult for beginners or non-geology scholars who lack a systematic knowledge and experience in sedimentary facies analysis.These hurdles could be partly alleviated by having a standardized,structured,and systematic knowledge base coupled with an efficient automatic machine-assisted sedimentary facies identification system.To this end,this study constructed a knowledge system for fluvial facies and carried out knowledge representation.Components include a domain knowledge graph for types of fluvial facies(meandering,braided and other fluvial depositional environments)and their characteristic features(bedforms,grain size distribution,etc.)with visualization,a method for query and retrieval on a graph database platform,a hierarchical knowledge tree-structure,a data-mining clustering algorithm for machineanalysis of publication texts,and an algorithm model for this area of sedimentary facies reasoning.The underlying sedimentary facies identification and knowledge reasoning system is based on expert experience and synthesis of publications.For testing,17 sets literature publications data that included details of sedimentary facies data(bedforms,grain sizes,etc.)were submitted to the artificial intelligence model,then compared and validated.This testing set of automated reasoning results yielded an interpretation accuracy of about 90%relative to the published interpretations in those papers.Therefore,the model and algorithm provide an efficient and automated reasoning technology,which provides a new approach and route for the rapid and intelligent identification of other types of sedimentary facies from literature data or direct use in the field. | Lei Zhang Mingcai Hou Anqing Chen Hanting Zhong James G.Ogg Dongyu Zheng | 2023 | Geoscience Frontiers2023,14,2: | 1 |

| 13 | Increase in root density induced by coronatine improves maize drought resistance in North China显示文摘Drought stress caused by insufficient irrigation or precipitation impairs agricultural production worldwide.In this study,a two-year field experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of coronatine(COR),a functional analog of jasmonic acid(JA),on maize drought resistance.The experiment included two water treatments(rainfed and irrigation),four COR concentrations(mock,0μmol L^(-1);A1,0.1μmol L^(-1);A2,1μmol L^(-1);A3,10μmol L^(-1))and two maize genotypes(Fumin 985(FM985),a drought-resistant cultivar and Xianyu 335(XY335),a drought-sensitive cultivar).Spraying 1μmol L^(-1)COR at seedling stage increased surface root density and size,including root dry matter by 12.6%,projected root area by 19.0%,average root density by 51.9%,and thus root bleeding sap by 28.2%under drought conditions.COR application also increased leaf area and SPAD values,a result attributed to improvement of the root system and increases in abscisic acid(ABA),JA,and salicylic acid(SA)contents.The improvement of leaves and roots laid the foundation for increasing plant height and dry matter accumulation.COR application reduced anthesis and silking interval,increasing kernel number per ear.COR treatment at 1μmol L^(-1)increased the yield of XY335 and FM985 by 7.9%and 11.0%,respectively.Correlation and path analysis showed that grain yields were correlated with root dry weight and projected root area,increasing maize drought resistance mainly via leaf area index and dry matter accumulation.Overall,COR increased maize drought resistance mainly by increasing root dry weight and root area,with 1μmol L-^(-1)COR as an optimal concentration. | Yuling Guo Guanmin Huang Qing Guo Chuanxi Peng Yingru Liu Mingcai Zhang Zhaohu Li Yuyi Zhou Liusheng Duan | 2023 | The Crop Journal2023,11,1: | 1 |

| 15 | Exogenous application of glycine betaine improved water use efficiency in winter wheat(Triticum aestivum L.) via modulating photosynthetic efficiency and antioxidative capacity under conventional and limited irrigation conditions显示文摘Improving water use efficiency(WUE)is an important subject in agricultural irrigation for alleviating the scarcity of water resources in semiarid regions of the North China Plain.Moreover,glycine betaine(GB)is one of the most effective compatible solutes synthesized naturally in plants for enhancing stress tolerance under abiotic stress,but little information is available on the involvement of GB in regulating crop WUE under field conditions.This study was conducted to explore the role of exogenously applied GB in improving WUE and plant physiological and biochemical responses inwinterwheat subjected to conventional or limited irrigation during the 2015–2016 and 2016–2017 growing seasons.Exogenous application of GB significantly enhanced antioxidant enzyme activities and reduced the accumulation ofmalondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide under limited irrigation conditions.Furthermore,GB-treated plantsmaintained higher leaf relative water content andmembrane stability,which led to higher chlorophyll content and gas exchange attributes for better intrinsic and instantaneouswater use efficiencies compared to control plants under limited irrigation conditions.GB-treated plants had higher indole-acetic acid and zeatin riboside levels but lower ABA levels compared to control plants under conventional and limited irrigation conditions.Additionally,GB enhanced the grain filling rate and duration,grain number per spike,and final grainweight,which resulted in higher grain yield compared to the control.Interestingly,GB significantly improved the integrative and photosynthetic WUE under conventional and limited irrigation conditions,although GB treatment did not markedly affect total water consumption.These results suggest the involvement of GB in improving WUEs in winter wheat by modulating hormonal balance,membrane stability,photosynthetic performance and antioxidant systems to maintain higher grain yield under conventional and limited irrigation conditions. | Nazir Ahmed Yushi Zhang Ke Li Yuyi Zhou Mingcai Zhang Zhaohu Li | 2019 | The Crop Journal2019,7,5: | 1 |
| 16 | Geological Characteristics and Metallogenic Setting of Representative Magmatic Cu-Ni Deposits in the Tianshan-Xingmeng Orogenic Belt, Central Asia显示文摘A great number of magmatic Cu-Ni deposits(including Kalatongke in Xinjiang and Hongqiling in Jilin) are distributed over a distance of almost 3000 km across the Tianshan-Xingmeng Orogenic Belt, from Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang in the west, to Jilin in eastern China in the east. These deposits were formed during a range of magmatic episodes from the Devonian to the Triassic. Significant magmatic Cu-Ni-Co-PGE deposits were formed from the Devonian period in the Nalati arc(e.g. Jingbulake Cu-Ni in Xinjiang), Carboniferous period in the Puerjin-Ertai arc(e.g. Kalatongke Cu-Ni-Co-PGE in Xinjiang), Carboniferous period in the Dananhu-Touquan arc(e.g. Huangshandong, Xiangshan and Tulaergen in estern Tianshan, Xinjiang) to Triassic period in the Hulan arc(e.g. Hongqiling Cu-Ni in Jilin). In addition to the overall tectonic, geologic and distribution of magmatic Cu-Ni deposits in the Tianshan-Xingmeng Orogenic Belt, the metallogenic setting, deposit geology and mineralization characteristics of each deposit mentioned above are summarized in this paper. Geochronologic data of Cu-Ni deposits indicate that, from west to east, the metallogenic ages in the Tianshan-Xingmeng Orogenic Belt changed with time, namely, from the Late Caledonian(~440 Ma), through the Late Hercynian(300-265 Ma) to the Late Indosinian(225-200 Ma).
