4The single nucleotide polymorphisms of the chicken myostatin gene are associated with skeletal muscle and adipose growth显示文摘Myostatin, a new member of the TGF-β superfamily, is predominantly expressed in skeletal muscle cells and functions as a negative regulator of skeletal muscle growth in animals. Recently, we have reported three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the chicken myostatin gene. Herein, we investigate the association of those SNPs with the production traits in a F2 chicken line derived from Broilers crossing to Silky with the least square analysis. The results show that the BB and AA genotypes are strongly associated with abdominal fat weight (AFW), abdominal fat percentage (AFP), and birth weight (BW) (P < 0.05). Breast muscle percentage (BMP) of the AA type is higher than that of the AB type. The breast muscle weight and breast muscle percentages of F2 individuals have significant difference between CC and DD genotypes (P < 0.05). Breast muscle weight (BMW) of EF birds is higher than that of EE birds (P < 0.05). 5Atmospheric environmental capacity and urban atmospheric load in China's Mainland显示文摘Daily and annual average atmospheric environmental capacity coefficient(A-value) sequences for China's Mainland are calculated from hourly data recorded at 378 ground stations over 1975–2014. A-values at different recurrence intervals are calculated by fitting the sequences to Pearson type III distribution curves. Based on these A-values and source-sink balance(reference concentration 100 μg m^(-3)), atmospheric environmental capacities at the recurrence intervals are calculated for all of China's Mainland and each provincial administrative region. The climate average atmospheric environmental capacity reference value for the entire mainland is 2.169×10~7 t yr^(-1). An urban atmospheric load index is defined for analyses of the impact of population density on the urban atmospheric environment. 8Enhanced orange emission by doping CeB_6 in CaAlSiN_3:Ce^(3+) phosphor for application in white LEDs显示文摘A series of CeB6-doped and CeO_2-doped Ca_(1-x)SiAlN_3:xCe3+(denoted as CASN:Ce3+@CeB6 and CASN:Ce3+@CeO_2, respectively) were synthesized by alloy-nitridation method under high-purity nitrogen atmosphere. The morphologies, crystal phases, and luminescence properties were investigated in detail.With an increase in the concentration of CeB_6, the unit cell volume of CASN:Ce3+@CeB_6 slightly increases due to the substitution between ions, which leads to a change of micro structure around Ce3+. CASN:Ce3+@CeB6 efficiently emits yellow-orange light with a maximum emission intensity at around 550 nm for the content x of 0.01(being in comparable situation, CASN:Ce3+@CeO_2 is x = 0.04) when excited at460 nm. Compared with CASN:Ce3+@CeO_2, the red emission component of Ce3+ in CASN:Ce3+@CeB6 is much stronger. This is ascribed to energy transfer of intra-Ce3+(within one Ce3+ ion) and inter-Ce3+(between Ce3+ and Ce3+ ions). In addition, the replacements of N3-(0.132 nm for CN = 4) and O^(2-)(0.124 nm for CN = 4) by B^(2-)(0.140 nm for CN = 4), which can lead to a marked expansion of the host lattice and a decrease of the oxidation of samples, are also responsible for the increase of red emission component. Furthermore, CASN:Ce3+@CeB_6 phosphor has an excellent thermal stability because of the partial substitution of Ce-O(Ce-N) bonds by more covalent Ce-B. 11Application of Principal Component Analysis(PCA)to the Evaluation and Screening of Multiactivity Fungi显示文摘Continued innovation in screening methodologies remains important for the discovery of high-quality multiactive fungi,which have been of great significance to the development of new drugs.Mangrove-derived fungi,which are well recognized as prolific sources of natural products,are worth sustained attention and further study.In this study,118 fungi,which mainly included Aspergillus spp.(34.62%)and Penicillium spp.(15.38%),were isolated from the mangrove ecosystem of the Maowei Sea,and 83.1%of the cultured fungi showed at least one bioactivity in four antibacterial and three antioxidant assays.To accurately evaluate the fungal bioactivities,the fungi with multiple bioactivities were successfully evaluated and screened by principal component analysis(PCA),and this analysis provided a dataset for comparing and selecting multibioactive fungi.Among the 118 mangrove-derived fungi tested in this study,Aspergillus spp.showed the best comprehensive activity.Fungi such as A.clavatonanicus,A.flavipes and A.citrinoterreus,which exhibited high comprehensive bioactivity as determined by the PCA,have great potential in the exploitation of natural products and the development of new drugs.This study demonstrated the first use of PCA as a time-saving,scientific method with a strong ability to evaluate and screen multiactive fungi,which indicated that this method can affect the discovery and development of new drugs.YANG Zonglin SHI Yaqi LI Pinglin PAN Kanghong LI Guoqiang LI Xianguo YAO Shuo ZHANG Dahai 2022Journal of Ocean University of China2022,21,3:4

14Biological identity of nanomaterials:Opportunities and challenges显示文摘The emergence of nanoparticles(NPs)has attracted tremendous interest of the scientific community for decades due to their unique properties and potential applications in diverse areas,including drug delivery and therapy.Many novel NPs have been synthesized and used to reduce drug toxicity,improve bio-availability,prolong circulation time,control drug release,and actively target to desired cells or tissues.However,clinical translation of NPs with the goal of treating particularly challenging diseases,such as cancer,will require a thorough understanding of how the NP properties influence their fate in biological systems,especially in vivo.Many efforts have been paid to studying the interactions and mechanisms of NPs and cells.Unless deliberately designed,the NPs in contact with biological fluids are rapidly covered by a selected group of biomolecules especially proteins to form a corona that interacts with biological systems.In this view,the recent development of NPs in drug delivery and the interactions of NPs with cells and proteins are summarized.By understanding the protein-NP interactions,some guidelines for safety design of NPs,challenges and future perspectives are discussed.DENG Jun YU DaHai GAO ChangYou 2013Science China Chemistry2013,56,11:3

17Overexpression of miR-101 suppresses collagen synthesis by targeting EZH2 in hypertrophic scar fibroblasts显示文摘Background:MicroRNA-101(miR-101)is a tumor suppressor microRNA(miRNA)and its loss is associated with the occurrence and progression of various diseases.However,the biological function and target of miR-101 in the pathogenesis of hypertrophic scars(HS)remains unknown.Methods:We harvested HS and paired normal skin(NS)tissue samples from patients and cultured their fibroblasts(HSF and NSF,respectively).We used quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR),fluorescence in situ hybridization(FISH),enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays(ELISA)and Western blot analyses to measure mRNA levels and protein expression of miR-101,enhancer of zeste homolog 2(EZH2),collagen 1 and 3(Col1 and Col3)andα-smooth muscle actin(α-SMA)in different in vitro conditions.We also used RNA sequencing to evaluate the relevant signaling pathways and bioinformatics analysis and dual-luciferase reporter assays to predict miR-101 targets.We utilized a bleomycin-induced fibrosis mouse model in which we injected miR-101 mimics to evaluate collagen deposition in vivo.Results:We found low expression of miR-101 in HS and HSF compared to NS and NSF.Overexpressing miR-101 decreased Col1,Col3 andα-SMA expression in HSF.We detected high expression of EZH2 in HS and HSF.Knockdown of EZH2 decreased Col1,Col3 andα-SMA in HSF.Mechanistically,miR-101 targeted the 3-untranslated region(3UTR)of EZH2,as indicated by the decreased expression of EZH2.Overexpressing EZH2 rescued miR-101-induced collagen repression.MiR-101 mimics effectively suppressed collagen deposition in the bleomycin-induced fibrosis mouse model.Conclusions:Our data reveal that miR-101 targets EZH2 in HS collagen production,providing new insight into the pathological mechanisms underlying HS formation.Jie Li Yan Li Yunchuan Wang Xiang He Jing Wang Weixia Cai Yanhui Jia Dan Xiao Jian Zhang Ming Zhao Kuo Shen Zichao Li Wenbin Jia Kejia Wang Yue Zhang Linlin Su Huayu Zhu Dahai Hu 2021Burns & Trauma2021,9,1:3
18Research progress in artificial upwelling and its potential environmental effects显示文摘Artificial upwelling, as a geoengineering tool, has received worldwide attention because it may actualize ocean fertilization in a sustainable way, which could potentially alleviate the pressures on the fish stocks and human-driven climate change in the ocean. We reviewed the current knowledge on the development of an artificial upwelling system and its potential environmental effects. Special attention was given to the research progress on the air-lift concept artificial upwelling by Zhejiang University. The research on artificial upwelling over the past few decades has generated a range of devices that have been successfully applied in the field for months. Based on field experiments and the associated modeling results, part of them reported positive effects on increasing primary production and enhancing CO2 sequestration. However, as a significant disturbance to the environment, especially for large-scale applications, the uncertainties related to the potential effects on ecosystem remain unsolved. Zhejiang University has overcome the technical challenges in designing and fabricating a robust and high efficiency artificial upwelling device which has been examined in two field experiments in Qiandao Lake and one sea trial in the East China Sea. It was investigated that cold and hypoxic deep ocean water(DOW) could be uplifted to the euphotic layer, which could potentially change the nutrient distribution and adjust the N/P ratio. Both simulation and field experiments results confirmed that utilizing self-powered energy to inject compressed air to uplift DOW was a valid and efficient method.
