| 1 | Evidence of insecticide resistance selection in wildmosquitoes due to agricultural pesticide use显示文摘Background:The wetlands used for some agricultural activities constitute productive breeding sites for many mosquito species.Thus,the agricultural use of insecticide targeting other pests may select for insecticide resistance in malaria mosquitoes.The purpose of this study is to clarify some knowledge gaps on the role of agrochemicals in the development of insecticide resistance in malaria vectors is of utmost importance for vector control.Methods:Using the CDC bottle test and the log-probit analysis,we investigated for the first time the resistance levels ofAnopheles coluzzii mosquitoes to neonicotinoids,insecticides used exclusively for crop protection in C?te d’Ivoire.The study was conducted in two agricultural regions(Tiassale and Gagnoa)and one non-agricultural region(Vitre)between June and August 2017 using clothianidin,acetamiprid and imidacloprid.Results:Mosquito populations from Tiassale and Gagnoa(agricultural settings)were determined to be resistant to acetamiprid with mortality rates being<85%at 24 h post-exposure.In Vitre(non-agricultural area)however,the mosquito population was susceptible to acetamiprid.In all three localities,mosquito populations were resistant to imidacloprid(mortality rates were 60%in Vitre,37%in Tiassale,and 13%in Gagnoa)and completely susceptible to clothianidin(100%mortality).An.coluzzii represented 100%of mosquito collected in Gagnoa,86%in Tiassale and 96%in Vitre.Conclusions:This study provides strong evidence that agricultural use of insecticides can cause insecticide resistance in malaria vector populations.Insecticide resistance driven by agrochemical usage should be considered when vector control strategies are developed. | Chouaibou Seidou Mouhamadou Sarah Souline de Souza Behi Kouadio Fodjo Marius Gonse Zoh Nestor Kesse Bli Benjamin Guibehi Koudou | 2019 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2019，8，4： | 3 |
| 2 | Indolent lung opacity: Ten years follow-up of pulmonary inflammatory pseudo-tumor显示文摘Inflammatory pseudotumor(IPT) has always been considered a diagnostic challenge. Its rarity and resemblance to other more common pathological entities imposes that neither clinical nor radiological characteristics can lead to a definitive diagnosis. The surgical excision of the lesion is the ultimate approach for accurate diagnosis and cure. Moreover the true nature of IPT, its origin as a neoplastic entity or an overreactive inflammatory reaction to an unknown trigger, has been a long debated matter. Surgery remains the treatment of choice. IPT is mostly an indolent disease with minimal morbidity and mortality. Local invasion and metastasis predict a poor prognosis. We hereby present a unique case of pulmonary IPT that was surgically excised, but recurred contralaterally, shortly thereafter. | 3 | Design of high-strength refractory complex solid-solution alloys显示文摘Nickel-based superalloys and near-equiatomic high-entropy alloys containing molybdenum are known for higher temperature strength and corrosion resistance.Yet,complex solid-solution alloys offer a huge design space to tune for optimal properties at slightly reduced entropy.For refractory Mo-W-Ta-Ti-Zr,we showcase KKR electronic structure methods via the coherent-potential approximation to identify alloys over five-dimensional design space with improved mechanical properties and necessary global(formation enthalpy)and local(short-range order)stability.Deformation is modeled with classical molecular dynamic simulations,validated from our first-principle data.We predict complex solid-solution alloys of improved stability with greatly enhanced modulus of elasticity(3×at 300 K)over near-equiatomic cases,as validated experimentally,and with higher moduli above 500 K over commercial alloys(2.3×at 2000 K).We also show that optimal complex solid-solution alloys are not described well by classical potentials due to critical electronic effects. | Prashant Singh Aayush Sharma A.V.Smirnov Mouhamad S.Diallo Pratik K.Ray Ganesh Balasubramanian Duane D.Johnson | 2018 | npj Computational Materials2018，，1： | 2 |

| 17 | Distribution of Plasmodium spp.infection in asymptomatic carriers in perennial and low seasonal malaria transmission settings in West Africa显示文摘countries in West Africa remain a hotspot for malaria with all age groups at risk.Asymptomatic carriers of Plasmodium spp.are important sources of infections for malaria vectors and thus contribute to the anchoring of the disease in favourable eco-epidemiological settings.The objective of this study was to assess the asymptomatic malaria case rates in Korhogo and Kaedi,two urban areas in northern Côte d’Ivoire and southern Mauritania,respectively.Methods:Cross-sectional surveys were carried out during the rainy season in 2014 and the dry season in 2015 in both settings.During each season,728 households were randomly selected and a household-based questionnaire was implemented to collect demographic and epidemiological data,including of malaria preventive methods used in communities.Finger-prick blood samples were obtained for biological examination using microscopy and rapid diagnostic tests(RDTs).Results:Overall,2672 households and 15858 consenting participants were surveyed.Plasmodium spp.infection was confirmed in 12.4%(n=832)and 0.3%(n=22)of the assessed individuals in Korhogo and Kaedi,respectively.In Korhogo,the prevalence of asymptomatic malaria was 10.5%(95%CI:9.7-11.2)as determined by microscopy and 9.3%(95%CI:8.6-10.0%)when assessed by RDT.In Kaedi,asymptomatic malaria prevalence was 0.2%(95%CI:0.1-0.4%)according to microscopy,while all RDTs performed were negative(n=8372).In Korhogo,asymptomatic malaria infection was significantly associated with age and season,with higher risk within the 5-14 years-old,and during the rainy season.In Kaedi,the risk of asymptomatic malaria infection was associated with season only(higher during the dry season;crude OR(cOR):6.37,95%CI:1.87-21.63).P.falciparum was the predominant species identified in both study sites representing 99.2%(n=825)in Korhogo and 59.1%(n=13)in Kaedi.Gametocytes were observed only in Korhogo and only during the rainy season at 1.3%(95%CI:0.7-2.4%).Conclusions:Our findings show a low prevalence of clinical malaria episodes with a significant proportion of asymptomatic carriers in both urban areas.National policies for malaria infections are focused on treatment of symptomatic cases.Malaria control strategies should be designed for monitoring and managing malaria infections in asymptomatic carriers.Additional measures,including indoor residual spraying,effective use of long-lasting insecticidal nets is strongly needed to reduce the number of Plasmodium spp.infections in Korhogo and Kaedi. | Constant G.N.Gbalegba Hampate Ba Kigbafori D.Silue Ousmane Ba Emmanuel Tia Mouhamadou Chouaibou Nathan T.Y.Tian-Bi Gre goire Y.Yapi Brama Kone Jurg Utzinger Benjamin G.Koudou | 2018 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2018，7，1： | 1 |
