2The first all-season sample set for mapping global land cover with Landsat-8 data显示文摘We report the world's first all-season training and validation sample sets for global land cover classification with Landsat-8 data.Prior to this,such samples were only available at a single date primarily from the growing season.It is unknown how much limitation such a single-date sample has to mapping global land cover in other seasons of the year.To answer this question,we selected available Landsat-8 images from four seasons and collected training and validation samples from them.We compared the performances of training samples in different seasons using Random Forest algorithm.We found that the use of training samples from any individual season would result in the best overall classification accuracy when validated by samples in the same season.The global overall accuracy from combined best seasonal results was 67.2% when classifying the 11 Level-1 classes in the Finer Resolution Observation and Monitoring of Global Land Cover(FROM-GLC) classification system.The use of training samples from all seasons(named all-season training sample set hereafter) produced an overall accuracy of 67.0%.We also tested classification within 10° latitude 60° longitude zones using all-season training subsample within each zone and obtained an overall accuracy of 70.2%.This indicates that properly grouped subsamples in space can help improve classification accuracies.All the results in this study seem to suggest that it is possible to use an all-season training sample set to reach global optimality with universal applicability in classifying images acquired at any time of a year for global land cover mapping.Congcong Li Peng Gong Jie Wang Zhiliang Zhu Gregory S. 3Effect of microporosity on scaffolds for bone tissue engineering显示文摘Microporosity has a critical role in improving the osteogenesis of scaffolds for bone tissue engineering.Although the exact mechanism,by which it promotes new bone formation,is not well recognized yet,the related hypothesis can be found in many previous studies.This review presents those possible mechanisms about how the microporosity enhances the osteogenic-related functions of cells in vitro and the osteogenic activity of scaffolds in vivo.In summary,the increased specific surface areas by microporosity can offer more protein adsorption sites and accelerate the release of degradation products,which facilitate the interactions between scaffolds and cells.Meanwhile,the unique surface properties of microporous scaffolds have a considerable effect on the protein adsorption.Moreover,capillary force generated by the microporosity can improve the attachment of bone-related cells on the scaffolds surface,and even make the cells achieve penetration into the micropores smaller than them.This review also pays attention to the relationship between the biological and mechanical properties of microporous scaffolds.Although lots of achievements have been obtained,there is still a lot of work to do,some of which has been proposed in the conclusions and perspectives part.Ke Zhang Yubo Fan Nicholas Dunne Xiaoming Li 2018Regenerative Biomaterials2018,5,2:15

11Multi-functional bismuth-doped bioglasses: combining bioactivity and photothermal response for bone tumor treatment and tissue repair显示文摘Treatment of large bone defects derived from bone tumor surgery is typically performed in multiple separate operations,such as hyperthermia to extinguish residual malignant cells or implanting bioactive materials to initiate apatite remineralization for tissue repair;it is very challenging to combine these functions into a material.Herein,we report the first photothermal(PT)effect in bismuth(Bi)-doped glasses.On the basis of this discovery,we have developed a new type of Bi-doped bioactive glass that integrates both functions,thus reducing the number of treatment cycles.We demonstrate that Bi-doped bioglasses(BGs)provide high PT efficiency,potentially facilitating photoinduced hyperthermia and bioactivity to allow bone tissue remineralization.The PT effect of Bi-doped BGs can be effectively controlled by managing radiative and non-radiative processes of the active Bi species by quenching photoluminescence(PL)or depolymerizing glass networks.In vitro studies demonstrate that such glasses are biocompatible to tumor and normal cells and that they can promote osteogenic cell proliferation,differentiation,and mineralization.Upon illumination with near-infrared(NIR)light,the bioglass(BG)can efficiently kill bone tumor cells,as demonstrated via in vitro and in vivo experiments.This indicates excellent potential for the integration of multiple functions within the new materials,which will aid in the development and application of novel biomaterials.Liping Wang Nicholas J.Long Lihua Li Yao Lu Mei Li Jiangkun Cao Yu Zhang Qinyuan Zhang Shanhui Xu Zhongmin Yang Chuanbin Mao Mingying Peng 2018Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1:6

13Melanopsin-expressing retinal ganglion cell loss and behavioral analysis in the Thy1-CFP-DBA/2J mouse model of glaucoma显示文摘In this study,the role of melanopsin-expressing retinal ganglion cells(mRGCs) in the glaucoma-induced depressive behavioral response pattern was investigated.The CFP-D2 transgenic glaucoma animal model from five age groups was used in this study.Immunohistochemical labeling,quantitative analysis of mRGC morphology,open field test(OFT),and statistical analysis were used.In comparison with C57 BL/6 mice,the age-matched CFP-D2 mice had significantly elevated intraocular pressure(IOP).We observed parallel morphological changes in the retina,including a reduction in the density of cyan fluorescent protein(CFP) expressing cells(cells mm 2 at 2 months of age,1309±26;14 months,878±30,P<0.001),mRGCs(2 months,48±3;14 months,19±4,P<0.001),Brn3b-expressing RGCs(2 months,1283±80;14 months,950±31,P<0.001),Brn-3b expressing mRGCs(5 months,50.17%±5.5%;14 months,12.61%±3.8%,P<0.001),and reduction in the dendritic field size of mRGCs(mm2 at 2 months,0.077±0.015;14 months,0.065±0.015,P<0.05).CFP-D2 mice had hyperactive locomotor activity patterns based on OFT findings of the total distance traveled,number of entries into the center,and time spent in the center of the testing apparatus.The glaucoma induced hyperactive response pattern could be associated with dysfunctional mRGCs,most likely Brn-3b-positive mRGCs in CFP-D2 mice.ZHANG Qi VUONG Helen HUANG Xin WANG YanLing BRECHA Nicholas C. 15Burgeoning study of sentinel-node analysis on management of early gastric cancer after endoscopic submucosal dissection显示文摘Endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD)represents an organ-preserving alternative to surgical resection of early gastric cancer.However,even with ESD yielding en-bloc resection specimens,there are concerns regarding tumor spread such as with larger lesions,ulcerated lesions,undifferentiated pathology and submucosal invasion.Sentinel node navigational surgery(SNNS)when combined with ESD offers a minimally invasive alternative to the traditional extended gastrectomy and lymphadenectomy if lack of lymph node spread can be confirmed.This would have a clear advantage in terms of potential complications and quality of life.However,SNNS,though useful in other malignancies such as breast cancer and melanoma,may not have a sufficient sensitivity for malignancy and negative predictive value in EGC to justify this as standard practice after ESD.The results of SNNS may improve with greater standardization and more involved dissection,technological innovations and more experience and validation such that the paradigm for post-ESD resection of EGC may change and include SNNS.David Friedel Xiaocen Zhang Stavros Nicholas Stavropoulos 2020World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy2020,12,4:3

17Effect of Horizontal Resolution on the Representation of the Global Monsoon Annual Cycle in AGCMs显示文摘The sensitivity of the representation of the global monsoon annual cycle to horizontal resolution is compared in three AGCMs:the Met Office Unified Model-Global Atmosphere 3.0;the Meteorological Research Institute AGCM3;and the Global High Resolution AGCM from the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory.For each model,we use two horizontal resolution configurations for the period 1998–2008.Increasing resolution consistently improves simulated precipitation and low-level circulation of the annual mean and the first two annual cycle modes,as measured by the pattern correlation coefficient and equitable threat score.Improvements in simulating the summer monsoon onset and withdrawal are region-dependent.No consistent response to resolution is found in simulating summer monsoon retreat.Regionally,increased resolution reduces the positive bias in simulated annual mean precipitation,the two annual-cycle modes over the West African monsoon and Northwestern Pacific monsoon.An overestimation of the solstitial mode and an underestimation of the equinoctial asymmetric mode of the East Asian monsoon are reduced in all high-resolution configurations.Systematic errors exist in lower-resolution models for simulating the onset and withdrawal of the summer monsoon.Higher resolution models consistently improve the early summer monsoon onset over East Asia and West Africa,but substantial differences exist in the responses over the Indian monsoon region,where biases differ across the three low-resolution AGCMs.This study demonstrates the importance of a multi-model comparison when examining the added value of resolution and the importance of model physical parameterizations for simulation of the Indian monsoon.Lixia ZHANG Tianjun ZHOU Nicholas P.KLINGAMAN Peili WU Malcolm ROBERTS 2018Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2018,35,8:3

19Comparison of Two Dose-response Relationship of Noise Exposure Evaluation Results with High Frequency Hearing Loss显示文摘Background: Complex noise and its relation to hearing loss are difficult to measure and evaluate. In complex noise measurement, individual exposure results may not accurately represent lifetime noise exposure. Thus, the mean LAcq.8h values of individuals in the same workgroup were also used to represent LAcq.8h in our study. Our study aimed to explore whether the mean exposure levels of workers in the same workgroup represented real noise exposure better than individual exposure levels did. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted to establish a model for cumulative noise exposure (CNE) and hearing loss in 205 occupational noise-exposed workers who were recruited from two large automobile manufacturers in China. We used a personal noise dosimeter and a questionnaire to determine the workers' occupational noise exposure levels and exposure times, respectively. A qualified audiologist used standardized audiometric procedures to assess hearing acuity after at least 16 h of noise avoidance. Results: We observed that 88.3% of workers were exposed to more than 85 dB(A) of occupational noise (mean: 89.3 ± 4.2 dB(A)). The personal CNE (CNEp) and workgroup CNE (CNEg) were 100.5 ± 4.7 dB(A) and 100.5 ± 2.9 dB(A), respectively. In the binary logistic regression analysis, we established a regression model with high-frequency hearing loss as the dependent variable and CNE as the independent variable. The Wald value was 5.014 with CNEp as the independent variable and 8.653 with CNEg as the independent variable. Furthermore, we found that the figure for CNEg was more similar to the stationary noise reference than CNEp was. The CNEg model was better than the CNEp model. In this circumstance, we can measure some subjects instead of the whole workgroup and save manpower.
