1Should multi-gene panel testing replace limited BRCA1/2 testing? A review of genetic testing for hereditary breast and ovarian cancers显示文摘Clinical testing of patients for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndromes began in the mid-1990s with the identification of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes.Since then,mutations in dozens of other genes have been correlated to increased breast,ovarian,and other cancer risk.The following decades of data collection and patient advocacy allowed for improvements in medical,legal,social,and ethical advances in genetic testing.Technological advances have made it possible to sequence multiple genes at once in a panel to give patients a more thorough evaluation of their personal cancer risk.Panel testing increases the detection of mutations that lead to increased risk of breast,ovarian,and other cancers and can better guide individualized screening measures compared to limited BRCA testing alone.At the same time,multi-gene panel testing is more time-and cost-efficient.While the clinical application of panel testing is in its infancy,many problems arise such as lack of guidelines for management of newly identified gene mutations,high rates of variants of uncertain significance,and limited ability to screen for some cancers.Through on-going concerted efforts of pooled data collection and analysis,it is likely that the benefits of multi-gene panel testing will outweigh the risks in the near future.Nimmi S Kapoor Kimberly C Banks 2016World Journal of Surgical Procedures2016,6,1:2

10Validation of Foreground Emission Model using GALEX Medium Observations显示文摘The study of diffuse ultraviolet(UV)background radiation is vital in the investigation of stellar and galactic evolution.Space-based UV observations are comprised of both foreground and background radiations.The foreground emission in an observation is a result of solar contamination in the direction of observation.In our previous work,we modeled airglow(one of the major constituents of the foreground emission)as a function of10.7 cm Solar Flux and Sun Angle with great accuracy using GALEX deep observations.We adopt a similar methodology to validate the obtained model and run equivalent experiments here using far-UV(FUV)and nearUV(NUV)GALEX medium imaging surveys(MIS)with a total exposure time greater than 3300 s.We obtained a predictive model having excellent compatibility with the earlier model.Our analysis shows that the total foreground emission varies between 59 and 295 photon units in FUV whereas in NUV,it varies between 671 and1195 photon units depending upon the date and time of observation.We also noticed a strong correlation between the background emission and optical depth both in FUV and NUV,especially in the low density regions.This clearly indicates that the major contributor in diffuse background radiation is the starlight scattered by interstellar dust grains.Nimmi Narayanan Shivashankar S.Menon N.V.Sujatha 2023Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics2023,23,6:0
