| 1 | Ideotype root architecture for efficient nitrogen acquisition by maize in intensive cropping systems显示文摘The use of nitrogen(N) fertilizers has contributed to the production of a food supply sufficient for both animals and humans despite some negative environmental impact.Sustaining food production by increasing N use efficiency in intensive cropping systems has become a major concern for scientists,environmental groups,and agricultural policymakers worldwide.In high-yielding maize systems the major method of N loss is nitrate leaching.In this review paper,the characteristic of nitrate movement in the soil,N uptake by maize as well as the regulation of root growth by soil N availability are discussed.We suggest that an ideotype root architecture for efficient N acquisition in maize should include(i) deeper roots with high activity that are able to uptake nitrate before it moves downward into deep soil;(ii) vigorous lateral root growth under high N input conditions so as to increase spatial N availability in the soil;and(iii) strong response of lateral root growth to localized nitrogen supply so as to utilize unevenly distributed nitrate especially under limited N conditions. | MI GuoHua,CHEN FanJun,WU QiuPing,LAI NingWei,YUAN LiXing & ZHANG FuSuo* Key Laboratory of Plant Nutrition,MOA Key Laboratory of Plant-Soil Interaction,MOE College of Resources and Environmental Science,China Agricultural University,Beijing 100193,China | 2010 | Science China(Life Sciences)2010,53,12: | 35 |
| 2 | Seasonal variation in surface ozone and its regional characteristics at global atmosphere watch stations in China显示文摘We investigated the seasonal and spatial ozone variations in China by using three-year surface ozone observation data from the six Chinese Global Atmosphere Watch(GAW)stations and tropospheric column ozone data from satellite retrieval over the period2010–2012. It is shown that the seasonal ozone variations at these GAW stations are rather different, particularly between the western and eastern locations. Compared with western China, eastern China has lower background ozone levels. However, the Asian summer monsoon(ASM) can transport photochemical pollutants from the southern to the northern areas in eastern China, leading to a northward gradual enhancement of background ozone levels at the eastern GAW stations. Over China, the tropospheric column ozone densities peak during spring and summer in the areas that are directly and/or indirectly affected by the ASM, and the peak time lags from the south to the north in eastern China. We also investigated the regional representativeness of seasonal variations of ozone at the six Chinese GAW stations using the yearly maximum tropospheric column month as indicator.The results show that the seasonal variation characteristics of ozone revealed by the Chinese GAW stations are typical, with each station having a considerable large surrounding area with the ozone maximum occurring at the same month. | 3 | Comparison of Two Air Pollution Episodes over Northeast China in Winter 2016/17 Using Ground-Based Lidar显示文摘This study analyzes and compares aerosol properties and meteorological conditions during two air pollution episodes in 19–22(E1) and 25–26(E2) December 2016 in Northeast China. The visibility, particulate matter(PM) mass concentration, and surface meteorological observations were examined, together with the planetary boundary layer(PBL) properties and vertical profiles of aerosol extinction coefficient and volume depolarization ratio that were measured by a ground-based lidar in Shenyang of Liaoning Province, China during December 2016–January 2017.Results suggest that the low PBL height led to poor pollution dilution in E1, while the high PBL accompanied by low visibility in E2 might have been due to cross-regional and vertical air transmission. The PM mass concentration decreased as the PBL height increased in E1 while these two variables were positively correlated in E2. The enhanced winds in E2 diffused the pollutants and contributed largely to the aerosol transport. Strong temperature inversion in E1 resulted in increased PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations, and the winds in E2 favoured the southwesterly transport of aerosols from the North China Plain into the region surrounding Shenyang. The large extinction coefficient was partially attributed to the local pollution under the low PBL with high ground-surface PM mass concentrations in E1,whereas the cross-regional transport of aerosols within a high PBL and the low PM mass concentration near the ground in E2 were associated with severe aerosol extinction at high altitudes. | 4 | Atmospheric extinction properties in Shenyang,China显示文摘Atmospheric visibility impairment due to human activities is becoming increasingly significant in metropolitan Shenyang,China.In this study,hourly data of relevant factors throughout the year 2010 in Shenyang were used to evaluate the local atmospheric extinction properties.The results show that the average coefficient of total extinction and aerosol single-scattering albedo in 2010 were 622.72 Mm^(-1)and 0.87,respectively,values that are characteristic of the 'municipal pollution type'.Visibility is most impaired during winter and especially in January.The coefficient of total extinction exhibits a single daily cycle with a maximum at 5-6 am and a minimum at 3 pm.The mean extinction contributions of the constituents,from high to low,were particle scattering(87.49%),particle absorption,gas absorption,and gas scattering.The extinction contribution of gas molecules was little more than 4.5%,far smaller than that of particles.Scattering by particles was the main contributor to extinction,especially in the morning and around midnight. | Ningwei Liu Yanjun Ma Jianzhong Ma Yangfeng Wang Suying Yang Liguang Li | 2015 | Particuology2015,13,1: | 3 |
| 5 | Studies on Tomato Seedling Quality Indices Under Simulated Shipping and Storage Conditions显示文摘Indices of the tomato seedling quality maintenance level after production before field planting were studied through simulated experiments, small—scale operation, indoor analyses and measurements, and field observation. The results showed that under simulated shipping and storage conditions, seedling quality change following different durations (days) of shipping and storage was correlated significantly or even very significantly with certain physiological and morphological indices. With various measured indices following different periods of shipping and storage treatment subjected to multinomial successive regressive correlation analysis, the principal factors influencing seedling quality maintenance level are identified to be chlorophyll content →dry short weight → leaf freshness index in order of their importance. Starting with the family of spherical catenoids in H^3 found by Mori(1981), we obtain 2-and 3-parameter families of new minimal surfaces in the hyperbolic space, by solving a non trivial integro-differential system. Special choices of the parameters provide minimal surfaces whose parametrizations are defined on connected regions of R^2 minus a disjoint union of Jordan curves. Any connected region bounded by such a Jordan curve, generates a complete minimal surface, whose boundary at infinity of H^3 is a closed curve.
