| 1 | Ocular Surface Characteristics and Impression Cytology in Patients with Active versus Inactive Thyroid Eye Disease显示文摘Purpose:To compare the clinical findings, tear film function and impression cytology between patients with active and inactive Thyroid Eye Disease (TED). Methods:.A total of 56 patients with TED and 30 controls were recruited in this prospective observational cohort study. TED patients were divided into active TED and inactive TED types according to a seven-point modified formulation of the Clinical Activity Score (CAS). All participants underwent full eye examinations including Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) score, tear film break-up time (TBUT), fluorescein staining and Schirmer I test. Thirty nine patients with thyroid-associated orbitopathy.(TAO) received Nelson's grade with conjunctival impression cytology. Proptosis, palpebral fissure width and lagophthalmos were assessed. Results:.Ocular surface parameters including proptosis, palpebral fissure width and lagophthalmos did not differ between active and inactive TED patients(P>0.05). Both active and inactive TED patients obtained higher fluorescein staining scores, lower TBUT scores and significantly lower Schirmer test scores than those of controls (P<0.001 for all). Additionally, the TBUT score was significantly lower and the OSDI score significantly higher in the active TED group compared with those in the inactive TED group (P<0.001 for both). Impression cytology revealed a higher proportion of grade 2-3 changes in the active TED group compared with the inactive TED group(P<0.001). | 6 | Biodegradable, Super-Strong, and Conductive Cellulose Macrofibers for Fabric-Based Triboelectric Nanogenerator显示文摘Electronic fibers used to fabricate wearable triboelectric nanogenerator(TENG) for harvesting human mechanical energy have been extensively explored. However, little attention is paid to their mutual advantages of environmental friendliness, mechanical properties, and stability. Here, we report a super-strong, biodegradable, and washable cellulose-based conductive macrofibers, which is prepared by wet-stretching and wet-twisting bacterial cellulose hydrogel incorporated with carbon nanotubes and polypyrrole. The cellulose-based conductive macrofibers possess high tensile strength of 449 MPa(able to lift 2 kg weights), good electrical conductivity(~ 5.32 S cm^(-1)), and excellent stability(Tensile strength and conductivity only decrease by 6.7% and 8.1% after immersing in water for 1 day). The degradation experiment demonstrates macrofibers can be degraded within 108 h in the cellulase solution. The designed fabric-based TENG from the cellulose-base conductive macrofibers shows a maximum open-circuit voltage of 170 V, short-circuit current of 0.8 μA, and output power at 352 μW, which is capable of powering the commercial electronics by charging the capacitors. More importantly, the fabric-based TENGs can be attached to the human body and work as self-powered sensors to effectively monitor human motions. | 13 | Changes in the Urban Surface Thermal Environment of a Chinese Coastal City Revealed by Downscaling MODIS LST with Random Forest Algorithm显示文摘Analysis of the formation and evolution of urban surface thermal environment is crucial for urban planning and improving the environment of a settlement.Qingdao was selected in this study as a typical coastal city undergoing rapid urbanization,and the spatiotemporal dynamic characteristics of its urban surface thermal environment from2010 to 2019 were evaluated.The random forest(RF)algorithm was adopted to obtain its land surface temperature(LST)map with 30-m resolution by downscaling the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS)LST product;the remote sensing indices emphasizing different land cover types,LST calculated by the radiative transfer equation,and elevation were used as input variables in the algorithm.The heat island intensity(HII),urban heat island(UHI)volume,and UHI grade were used to analyze the spatiotemporal dynamic characteristics of the urban surface thermal environment in Qingdao.The results show an increasing trend in average HII between 1.1 and 2.52°C in the study area over the past 10 years.The northern city appeared to have the highest UHI volume,while change of the UHI volume in Huangdao District of southwestern Qingdao was the most significant.The areas with high HII have gradually expanded during the last 10 years,and the areas with a 10-yr persistently high HII are distributed mainly in old urban areas with high building density and a dense population.Different factors may influence UHI,such as artificial heat sources,surface heat sources,and hybrid heat sources.Finally,adjusting the urban structure,increasing the vegetated area,and changing building colors are proposed to mitigate UHI in the areas with continuously high HII. | Nuo XU Fan DENG Bingqi LIU Caixia LI Hancong FU Huan YANG Jiahua ZHANG | 2021 | Journal of Meteorological Research2021,35,5: | 1 |
| 14 | Effects of Leptocybe invasa Damage on Chemical Components of Eucalyptus显示文摘[Objective] The aim was to illustrate the relation between Leptocybe invasa and eucalyptus, so as to provide the basis for scientific control of L. invasa. [Method] The chemical components of eucalyptus were extracted by solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) technique and ethanol extraction method, and detected by gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer. The relative contents of various components were determined by area normalization. [Result] When eucalyptus was damaged by L. invasa, not only some substances disappeared, but also new substances were induced. Among 4 induced volatiles, the content of terpinolene was the highest of 37.66%. | 17 | Polar Gini Curve:A Technique to Discover Gene Expression Spatial Patterns from Single-cell RNA-seq Data显示文摘In this work,we describe the development of Polar Gini Curve,a method for characterizing cluster markers by analyzing single-cell RNA sequencing(scRNA-seq)data.Polar Gini Curve combines the gene expression and the 2D coordinates(“spatial”)information to detect patterns of uniformity in any clustered cells from scRNA-seq data.We demonstrate that Polar Gini Curve can help users characterize the shape and density distribution of cells in a particular cluster,which can be generated during routine scRNA-seq data analysis.To quantify the extent to which a gene is uniformly distributed in a cell cluster space,we combine two polar Gini curves(PGCs)—one drawn upon the cell-points expressing the gene(the“foreground curve”)and the other drawn upon all cell-points in the cluster(the“background curve”).We show that genes with highly dissimilar foreground and background curves tend not to uniformly distributed in the cell cluster—thus having spatially divergent gene expression patterns within the cluster.Genes with similar foreground and background curves tend to uniformly distributed in the cell cluster—thus having uniform gene expression patterns within the cluster.Such quantitative attributes of PGCs can be applied to sensitively discover biomarkers across clusters from scRNA-seq data.We demonstrate the performance of the Polar Gini Curve framework in several simulation case studies.Using this framework to analyze a real-world neonatal mouse heart cell dataset,the detected biomarkers may characterize novel subtypes of cardiac muscle cells.The source code and data for Polar Gini Curve could be found at http://discovery.informatics.uab.edu/PGC/or https://figshare.com/projects/Polar_Gini_Curve/76749. | Thanh Minh Nguyen Jacob John Jeevan Nuo Xu Jake Y.Chen | 2021 | Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2021,19,3: | 1 |
| 18 | Influences of Co-Flow and Counter-Flow Modes of Reactant Flow Arrangement on a PEMFC at Start-Up显示文摘To investigate the influences of co-flowand counter-flowmodes of reactant flowarrangement on a proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC)during start-up,unsteady physical and mathematical models fully coupling the flow,heat,and electrochemical reactions in a PEMFC are established.The continuity equation and momentum equation are solved by handling pressure-velocity coupling using the SIMPLE algorithm.The electrochemical reaction rates in the catalyst layers(CLs)of the cathode and anode are calculated using the Butler-Volmer equation.The multiphase mixture model describes the multiphase transport process of gas mixtures and liquid water in the fuel cell.After validation,the influences of co-flow and counter-flow modes on the PEMFC performance are investigated,including the evolution of the current density,flow field,temperature field,and reactant concentration field during start-up,as well as the steady distribution of the current density,reactant concentration,andmembrane water content when the start-up stabilizes.Co-flow and counter-flow modes influence the current density distribution and temperature distribution.On the one hand,the co-flow mode accelerates the start-up process of the PEMFC and leads to a more evenly distributed current density than the counter-flow mode.On the other hand,the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet sections of the cell is up to 10.1℃ under the co-flow mode,much larger than the 5.0℃ observed in the counter-flow mode.Accordingly,the counter-flowmode results in a more evenly distributed temperature and a lower maximum temperature than the co-flow case.Therefore,in the flow field design of a PEMFC,the reactant flow arrangements can be considered to weigh between better heat management and higher current density distribution of the cell. | Qianqian Shao Min Wang Nuo Xu | 2024 | Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2024,139,5: | 0 |
