Synthesis of zinc-carboxylate metal-organic frameworks for the removal of emerging drug contaminant(amodiaquine)from aqueous solution显示文摘We herein report the removal of amodiaquine, an emerging drug contaminant from aqueous solution using [Zn2(fum)2(bpy)] and [Zn4 O(bdc)3](fum = fumaric acid; bpy =4,4-bipyridine; bdc = benzene-1,4-dicarboxylate) metal–organic frameworks(MOFs) as adsorbents. The adsorbents were characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR) spectroscopy, and powder X-ray diffraction(PXRD). Adsorption process for both adsorbents were found to follow the pseudo-first-order kinetics, and the adsorption equilibrium data fitted best into the Freundlich isotherm with the R^2 values of 0.973 and0.993 obtained for [Zn_2(fum)_2(bpy)] and [Zn_4 O(bdc)_3] respectively. The maximum adsorption capacities foramodiaquine in this study were found to be 0.478 and 47.62 mg/g on the[Zn_2(fum)_2(bpy)] and [Zn_4 O(bdc)_3] MOFs respectively, and were obtained at p H of 4.3 for both adsorbents. FT-IR spectroscopy analysis of the MOFs after the adsorption process showed the presence of the drug. The results of the study showed that the prepared MOFs could be used for the removal of amodiaquine from wastewater. | Adedibu C.Tella Samson O.Owalude Sunday J.Olatunji Vincent O.Adimula Sunday E.Elaigwu Lukman O.Alimi Peter A.Ajibade Oluwatobi S.Oluwafemi | 2018 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2018,30,2: | 1

Anti-inflammatory activity of the essential oils of Cymbopogon validus(Stapf) Stapf ex Burtt Davy from Eastern Cape, South Africa显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the essential oil composition and the anti-inflammatory activity of Cymbopogon validus(C. validus) leaves and flowers. Methods: A total of 300 g of fresh or dry(leaves and flowers) of C. validus were cut into small pieces and subjected to hydro-distillation method for approximately 5 h using the Clevenger apparatus. The extracted essential oils were then used for testing the anti-inflammatory activity. The anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated by using egg-albumin induced paw edema. Results: The extracted oils had the following yields 2.2% for fresh leaves, 2.0% for dry leaves and 2.4% v/w for dry flowers. GCMS results revealed that the oils contained artemisia ketone(37.5%), linalool(3.2%-29.6%), northujane(4.4%-16.8%), verbenone(13.5%), naphthalene(1.7%-9.6%), δ-cadinene(0.5%-8.1%), hedycaryol(5.4%-7.6%) and α-eudesmol(6.5%-6.7%) as the major constituents. C. validus essential oils showed significant(P<0.05) anti-inflammatory effects from the first 30 min after albumin injection compared to aspirin which had a later onset of effect. Conclusions: The findings of this study show that the essential oil extracted from C. validus fresh or dry leaves and flowers have anti-inflammatory properties; that might be associated with the major components and the minor components found in the essential oils. | Pamela Rungqu Opeoluwa Oyedeji Benedicta Nkeh-Chungag Sandile Songca Oluwatobi Oluwafemi Adebola Oyedeji | 2016 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2016,9,5: | 1
Aqueous Extract of Newbouldia laevis Abrogates Cadmium-Induced Ovarian Dysfunction in Adult Wistar Rats Running Title:Newbouldia laevis Ameliorates Ovarian Disruption显示文摘Background:The extract of Newbouldia laevis has been demonstrated to show antioxidant,antimicrobial,sedative,anticonvulsant,analgesic,anti-inflammatory,antinociceptive,hepatoprotective,anticancer,antiulcer,antihypertensive and antidiarrhea properties. However, its reproprotective effect is not well known. The present study was designed to investigate the ameliorative effect of Newbouldia laevis in cadmium-induced ovarian dysfunction.Method:Adult female Wistar rats were randomly allotted into groups;Vehicle(received distilled water),cadmium-treated(received 5 mg/kg b.w.),N.laevis-treated(received 200 mg/kg b.w.)and cadmium+N.laevis-treated groups.Cadmium sulphate was administered for 3 days(i.p.)followed by oral administration of N.laevis for 28 days. The body weight change was monitored using animal weighing balance(Olympia SCL66110 model,Kent Scientific Corporation,Torrington,CT06790,USA),biochemical assay and histology of ovaries were performed as previously described. Results:The results showed weight loss, severe disruption of ovarian follicles and significant reduction of gonadotropic hormones(FSH and LH)in cadmium-treated group compared with vehicle-treated group. These alterations were not associated with inflammatory response. However, concomitant administration of aqueous extract of N.laevis and cadmium sulphate significantly ameliorated ovarian disruption. Conclusion:The study demonstrates that administration of aqueous extract of N.laevis during treatment with cadmium sulphate preserves ovarian function, suggesting that possibly daily intake of aqueous extract of N.laevis prevents the onset of ovarian disorders. | Adeoye O.Oyewopo Kehinde S.Olaniyi Adesola A.Oniyide Olusola A.Sanya Oluwatobi A.Amusa Omosola F.Faniyan Olugbenga O.Eweoya | 2019 | Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology2019,7,3: | 0
Nigerian Women Empowerment and the Entrepreneurial Myth显示文摘The decision usefulness of women empowerment depends on its ability to satisfy the fundamental daily needs of a woman not minding any limitation.Despite Nigeria government efforts on corruption reduction, poverty is still on the increase. This research investigates the relationship between women empowerment and entrepreneurial myth in Nigeria.By means of survey design, the primary data were obtained from sample of National Youth Service Corps(NYSC),marketers, and civil servants. Two hundred copies of questionnaire were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study found correlation of women empowerment and entrepreneurial myth is significant at 0.01 level and no significant difference in Nigerian perception of women in the entrepreneur due to the probability value(0.08).The research concluded entrepreneurial myth is a significant factor in women empowerment,it recommends women should be proactive in addressing the current poverty situation in Nigeria and policy-makers should consider enlightenment programmes because it has a far-reaching implication on national development. | Adewumi Romoke Margaret Shiyanbola Alice Anese Fijabi Oluwatobi Emmanuel | 2019 | Journal of Modern Accounting and Auditing2019,15,9: | 0
Effect of Metabolic Excesses from Dietary Proteins on Blood Profile of Heat-stressed Broilers显示文摘Although, dietary proteins play a crucial role in poultry profit maximization, through the sustenance of birds`welfare, growth and development, yet metabolic excesses from crude protein(CP)degradation is detrimental to broiler chickens(BC)affected by heat stress. This study evaluated the effect of dietary protein levels on blood profile of heat-stressed BC at starter phase(SP)and finisher phase(FP).Arbor Acre BC(n=288)were randomly allotted to four dietary treatments(T1-23%CP;T2-21%CP;T3-19%CP;and T4-17%CP)with six replicate groups in a completely randomized design.Data were subjected to descriptive analysis, analysis of variance(p=0.05)and correlation statistics.Protein intake(PI)was not significantly affected by varying CP in diets at SP,but not at FP,where PI significantly increased with increasing dietary CP.PER had a negative correlation with PCV(r=-0.89,p<0.01),Hb(r=-0.88,p<0.01),RBC(r=-0.93,p<0.01)and PI(r=-0.78,p<0.01).Metabolic excesses including heat dissipation from dietary proteins influenced PCV,Hb,platelets and glucose of heat-stressed broilers. | Ibukun Olukorede Popoola Oluwabukola Rashidat Popoola Ibukun Oluwatobi Busari Ibikunle Funso Olaleru Damilola Deborah Popoola Omobolanle Ayobami David Oluwaseyi Olamide Olajide | 2021 | Journal of Zoological Research2021,3,4: | 0

Correlation and Path Coefficient Analyses of Yield in Cacao(Theobroma cacao L.)显示文摘Cacao(Theobroma cacao L.)is an important commodity tree crop which produces the cocoa bean,a major source of income for most West African countries and many smallholder farmers.Declining yield of cacao is a major limitation to cocoa production in Nigeria. This study aimed at determining the correlations of the phenotypic traits that were related in the yield of the cacao genotypes.Nine cacao hybrids produced from some high-yielding parents in the research farm of Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria,Ibadan,Nigeria were evaluated from 2012 through 2017 in Owena(7°11’N,5°1’E),Ondo state,Nigeria.Character Correlations and Path Coefficient Analysis were used in the description of the performance of the genotypes. The study concluded that significant genotypic and phenotypic correlations existed among many of the pairs of the fruit and bean characters with one another and with pod index, suggesting a complex contribution of these characters either positively or negatively to growth and yield in cacao, and that fruit and bean traits are determinants of yield in cacao. | Omotayo Olalekan Adenuga Abigail Funlayo Adepoju Ibrahim Olalekan Sobowale Olayinka Olufemi Olaniyi Oluwatobi James Areola Terkula Felix Nyamkyume | 2022 | Journal of Botanical Research2022,4,3: | 0

Object Tracking-Based “Follow-Me” Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) System显示文摘The applications of information technology (IT) tools and techniqueshave, over the years, simplified complex problem solving procedures. But thepower of automation is inhibited by the technicality in manning advanced equipment. To this end, tools deliberately combating this inhibition and advancing technological growth are the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). UAVs are rapidlytaking over major industries such as logistics, security, and cinematography.Among others, this is a very efficient way of carrying out missions unconventional to humans. An application area of this technology is the local film industrywhich is not producing quality movies primarily due to the lack of technicalknow-how in utilizing these systems. This study therefore aim to devise an autonomous object tracking UAV system that would eliminate the complex procedureinvolved in stabilizing an aerial camera (aerial bot) midair and promote the creation of quality aerial video shooting. The study adopted Unified Modeling Language (UML) tools in modeling the system’s functionality. The traditionalServer-Client model architecture was adopted. The OpenCV library employedproved highly efficient in aiding the tracking procedure. The system provided ausable web controller which provides easy interaction between the pilot and thedrone. Conclusively, investments in UAVs would enhance creation of quality graphic contents. | Olubukola D.Adekola Onyedikachi Kenny Udekwu Oluwatobi Tolulope Saliu Damilola Williams Dada Stephen O.Maitanmi Victor Odumuyiwa Olujimi Alao Monday Eze Funmilayo Abibat Kasali Ayokunle Omotunde | 2022 | Computer Systems Science & Engineering2022,41,6: | 0
Autonomous Unbiased Study Group Formation Algorithm for Rapid Knowledge Propagation显示文摘Knowledge propagation is a necessity, both in academics and in the industry. The focus of this work is on how to achieve rapid knowledge propaga-tion using collaborative study groups. The practice of knowledge sharing in study groupsfinds relevance in conferences, workshops, and class rooms.Unfortu-nately,there appears to be only few researches on empirical best practices and techniques on study groups formation, especially for achieving rapid knowledge propagation. This work bridges this gap by presenting a workflow driven compu-tational algorithm for autonomous and unbiased formation of study groups. The system workflow consists of a chronology of stages, each made of distinct steps. Two of the most important steps, subsumed within the algorithmic stage, are the algorithms that resolve the decisional problem of number of study groups to be formed,as well as the most effective permutation of the study group participants to form collaborative pairs. This work contributes a number of new algorithmic concepts, such as autonomous and unbiased matching, exhaustive multiplication technique, twisted round-robin transversal, equilibrium summation, among others. The concept of autonomous and unbiased matching is centered on the constitution of study groups and pairs purely based on the participants’performances in an examination, rather than through any external process. As part of practical demon-stration of this work, study group formation as well as unbiased pairing were fully demonstrated for a collaborative learning size of forty(40)participants,and partially for study groups of 50,60 and 80 participants. The quantitative proof of this work was done through the technique called equilibrium summation,as well as the calculation of inter-study group Pearson Correlation Coefficients, which resulted in values higher than 0.9 in all cases.Real life experimentation was carried out while teaching Object-Oriented Programming to forty(40)under-graduates between February and May 2021.Empirical result showed that the per-formance of the learners was improved appreciably. This work will therefore be of immense benefit to the industry, academics and research community involved in collaborative learning. | Monday Eze Charles Okunbor Solomon Esomu Nneka Richard-Nnabu Kayode Oladapo Oghenetega Avwokuruaye Abisola Olayiwola Akpovi Ominike Godwin Odulaja Oluwatobi Akinmerese | 2022 | Computer Systems Science & Engineering2022,42,7: | 0
Proteomics analysis of the phytopathogenic fungus Sclerotinia sclerotiorum:a narrative review显示文摘Sclerotinia sclerotiorum(Lib.)de Bary is a necrotrophic plant pathogen that causes cottony rot, watery soft rot, stem rot, white mold, and other disease symptoms in over 700 plant hosts around the world.Destruction of economically important crops, the lack of resistant cultivars, and the general challenge of controlling diseases caused by this broad-based pathogen call for continued research. However,in recent years, mass spectrometry-based proteomics analyses have been used to acquire a fundamental and in-depth molecular understanding of this fungal pathogen. In this review,we describe the characteristics of the Sclerotinia sclerotiorum pathogen and examine its virulence factors, secreted proteins, and host suppression mechanisms.Furthermore,we review recent proteomics studies and extrapolate their primary findings for the identification and functional characterization of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum proteins. Finally,we discuss key findings that shape the understanding of the virulent factors and pathogenesis of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and outline directions for future proteomic investigations of plant pathogens. | Oluwatobi Sarah Otun Ikechukwu Achilonu Khayalethu Ntushelo | 2022 | Journal of Bio-X Research2022,5,3: | 0
