| 4 | Association between Selenium in Soil and Diabetes in Chinese Residents Aged 35–74 Years:Results from the 2010 National Survey of Chronic Diseases and Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance显示文摘Objective To explore the association between soil selenium levels and the risk of diabetes in Chinese adults aged 35–74 years.Methods Data for this study were derived from the China Chronic Diseases and Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance 2010 survey.Selenium concentrations in soil were obtained from the Atlas of Soil Environmental Background Values in China.A two-level binary logistic regression model was used to determine the association between soil selenium concentrations and the risk of diabetes,with participants nested within districts/counties.Results A total of 69,332 participants aged 35–74 years,from 158 districts/counties were included in the analysis.Concentrations of selenium in soil varied greatly across the 158 districts/counties,with a median concentration of 0.219 mg/kg(IQR:0.185–0.248).The results showed that both Quartile 1(0.119–0.185 mg/kg)and Quartile 4(0.249–0.344 mg/kg)groups were positively associated with diabetes compared to a soil selenium concentration of 0.186–0.219 mg/kg(Quartile 2),crude odds ratios(ORs)(95%CI)were 1.227(1.003–1.502)and 1.280(1.048–1.563).The P values were 0.045 and 0.013,for Quartile 1 and Quartile 4 groups,respectively.After adjusting for all confounding factors of interest,the Quartile 1 group became non-significant,and the Quartile 4 group had an adjusted OR(95%CI)of 1.203(1.018–1.421)relative to the reference group(Quartile 2),the P values was 0.030.No significant results were seen for the Quartile 3 group(0.220–0.248 mg/kg)compared to the reference group.Conclusion Excessive selenium concentrations in soil could increase the risk of diabetes among Chinese adults aged 35–74 years. | WANG Qi Qi YU Shi Cheng XU Cheng Dong LIU Jian Jun LI Yuan Qiu ZHANG Man Hui LONG Xiao Juan LIU Yun Ning BI Yu Fang ZHAO Wen Hua YAO Hong Yan | 2020 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2020,33,4: | 3 |
| 5 | Lupeol protects against cardiac hypertrophy via TLR4-PI3K-Akt-NF-κB pathways显示文摘Inflammation and apoptosis are main pathological processes that lead to the development of cardiac hypertrophy.Lupeol,a natural triterpenoid,has shown anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic activities as well as potential protective effects on cardiovascular diseases.In this study we investigated whether lupeol attenuated cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis induced by pressure overload in vivo and in vitro,and explored the underlying mechanisms.Cardiac hypertrophy was induced in mice by transverse aortic constriction(TAC)surgery,and in neonatal rat cardiomyocytes(NRCMs)by stimulation with phenylephrine(PE)in vitro.We showed that administration of lupeol(50 mg·kg^(-1)·d^(-1),i.g.,for 4 weeks)prevented the morphological changes and cardiac dysfunction and remodeling in TAC mice,and treatment with lupeol(50μg/mL)significantly attenuated the hypertrophy of PE-stimulated NRCMs,and blunted the upregulated hypertrophic markers ANP,BNP,andβ-MHC.Furthermore,lupeol treatment attenuated the apoptotic and inflammatory responses in the heart tissue.We revealed that lupeol attenuated the inflammatory responses including the reduction of inflammatory cytokines and inhibition of NF-κB p65 nuclear translocation,which was mediated by the TLR4-PI3K-Akt signaling.Administration of a PI3K/Akt agonist 740 Y-P reversed the protective effects of lupeol in TAC mice as well as in PE-stimulated NRCMs.Moreover,pre-treatment with a TLR4 agonist RS 09 abolished the protective effects of lupeol and restored the inhibition of PI3K-Akt-NF-κB signaling by lupeol in PE-stimulated NRCMs.Collectively,our results demonstrate that the lupeol protects against cardiac hypertrophy via anti-inflammatory mechanisms,which results from inhibiting the TLR4-PI3K-Akt-NF-κB signaling. | Dan Li Ying-ying Guo Xian-feng Cen Hong-liang Qiu Si Chen Xiao-feng Zeng Qian Zeng Man Xu Qi-zhu Tang | 2022 | Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2022,43,8: | 3 |

However, a series of geological and geochemical properties investigated by authors of this paper are contrary to these models. | 8 | Gradual upregulation of OCI-5 expression during occurrence and progression of rat hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘BACKGROUND: OCI-5, the rat homologene of human glypican 3 ( GPC3), is confirmed upregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The present study was undertaken to detect gene expression change of OCI-5 during occurrence and progression of rat HCC. METHODS: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were given diethyl-nitrosamine ( DENA) to induce HCC. Three DENA-induced rats and one control rat were sacrificed every week for 18 weeks during the development of HCC. Tissues specimens were snap-frozen in liquid nitrogen and total RNA was isolated. Sk-Hepl cells were treated with DENA at different concentrations. The gene expression levels of OCI-5 and GPC3 were detected with the RT-PCR method. RESULTS: OCI-5 was not expressed in normal rat liver tissues. When HCC occurred and aggravated, OCI-5 expression was gradually elevated to a very high level. GPC3 was not expressed in the DENA-treated Sk-Hepl cells. CONCLUSIONS: OCI-5 was not expressed in normal rat liver tissues but in rat HCC tissues. High-expression of OCI-5 in DENA-induced rat HCC model was the gene expression change of HCC not the DENA-induced gene expression.
