NADPH oxidase family proteins:signaling dynamics to disease management显示文摘Reactive oxygen species(ROS)are pervasive signaling molecules in biological systems. In humans,a lack of ROS causes chronic and extreme bacterial infections, while uncontrolled release of these factors causes pathologies due to excessive inflammation.Professional phagocytes such as neutrophils(PMNs),eosinophils, monocytes, and macrophages use superoxide-generating NADPH oxidase(NOX)as part of their arsenal of antimicrobial mechanisms to produce high levels of ROS.NOX is a multisubunit enzyme complex composed of five essential subunits, two of which are localized in the membrane, while three are localized in the cytosol. In resting phagocytes, the oxidase complex is unassembled and inactive;however,it becomes activated after cytosolic components translocate to the membrane and are assembled into a functional oxidase. The NOX isoforms play a variety of roles in cellular differentiation, development, proliferation, apoptosis, cytoskeletal control, migration, and contraction.Recent studies have identified NOX as a major contributor to disease pathologies, resulting in a shift in focus on inhibiting the formation of potentially harmful free radicals. Therefore,a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms and the transduction pathways involved in NOX-mediated signaling is essential for the development of new therapeutic agents that minimize the hyperproduction of ROS.The current review provides a thorough overview of the various NOX enzymes and their roles in disease pathophysiology, highlights pharmacological strategies, and discusses the importance of computational modeling for future NOX-related studies.Rizwana Begum Shilpa Thota Abubakar Abdulkadir Gagandeep Kaur Prathyusha Bagam Sanjay Batra 2022Cellular & Molecular Immunology2022,19,6:2

COVID-19:Effect on gastroenterology and hepatology service provision and training:Lessons learnt and planning for the future显示文摘In late 2019,reports arose of a new respiratory disease in China, identified as a novel coronavirus, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2.The World Health Organisation named the disease caused by the virus‘coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)’.It was declared a pandemic in early 2020,after the disease rapidly spread across the world.COVID-19 has not only resulted in substantial morbidity and mortality but also significantly impacted healthcare service provision and training across all medical specialties with gastroenterology and Hepatology services being no exception.Internationally, most,if not all‘nonurgent’services have been placed on hold during surges of infections. As a result there have been delayed diagnoses, procedures, and surgeries which will undoubtedly result in increased morbidity and mortality.Outpatient services have been converted to remote consultations where possible in many countries.Trainees have been redeployed to help care for COVID-19 patients in other settings, resulting in disruption to their training-particularly endoscopy and outpatient clinics. This has led to significant anxiety amongst trainees, and risks prolongation of training. It is of the utmost importance to develop strategies that continue to support COVID-19-related service provision, whilst also supporting existing and future gastroenterology and Hepatology services and training.Changes to healthcare provision during the pandemic have generated new and improved frameworks of service and training delivery, which can be adopted in the post-COVID-19 world, leading to enhanced patient care.Muhammad Raheel Anjum Jodie Chalmers Rizwana Hamid Neil Rajoriya 2021World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,44:1

DeepCNN:Spectro-temporal feature representation for speech emotion recognition显示文摘Speech emotion recognition(SER)is an important research problem in human-computer interaction systems. The representation and extraction of features are significant challenges in SER systems.Despite the promising results of recent studies, they generally do not leverage progressive fusion techniques for effective feature representation and increasing receptive fields. To mitigate this problem, this article proposes DeepCNN,which is a fusion of spectral and temporal features of emotional speech by parallelising convolutional neural networks(CNNs)and a convolution layer-based transformer. Two parallel CNNs are applied to extract the spectral features(2D-CNN)and temporal features(1D-CNN)representations.A 2D-convolution layer-based transformer module extracts spectro-temporal features and concatenates them with features from parallel CNNs.The learnt low-level concatenated features are then applied to a deep framework of convolutional blocks, which retrieves high-level feature representation and subsequently categorises the emotional states using an attention gated recurrent unit and classification layer. This fusion technique results in a deeper hierarchical feature representation at a lower computational cost while simultaneously expanding the filter depth and reducing the feature map.The Berlin Database of Emotional Speech(EMO-BD)and Interactive Emotional Dyadic Motion Capture(IEMOCAP)datasets are used in experiments to recognise distinct speech emotions. With efficient spectral and temporal feature representation, the proposed SER model achieves 94.2%accuracy for different emotions on the EMO-BD and 81.1%accuracy on the IEMOCAP dataset respectively. The proposed SER system,DeepCNN,outperforms the baseline SER systems in terms of emotion recognition accuracy on the EMO-BD and IEMOCAP datasets.Nasir Saleem Jiechao Gao Rizwana Irfan Ahmad Almadhor Hafiz Tayyab Rauf Yudong Zhang Seifedine Kadry 2023CAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology2023,8,2:0
Exploration of Genetic Pattern of Phenological Traits in Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) under Drought Stress显示文摘Drought is the major detrimental environmental factor for wheat(Triticum aestivum L.)production.The exploration of genetic patterns underlying drought tolerance is of great significance. Here we report the gene actions controlling the phenological traits using the line×tester model studying 27 crosses and 12 parents under normal irrigation and drought conditions. The results interpreted via multiple analysis(mean performance, correlations, principal component, genetic analysis, heterotic and heterobeltiotic potential)disclosed highly significant differences among germplasm. The phenological waxiness traits(glume, boom, and sheath)were strongly interlinked.Flag leaf area exhibits a positive association with peduncle and spike length under drought. The growing degree days(heat-units)greatly influence spikelets and grains per spike, however, the grain yield/plant was significantly reduced(17.44 g to 13.25 g)under drought. The principal components based on eigenvalue indicated significant PCs(first-seven)accounted for 79.9%and 73.9%of total variability under normal irrigation and drought, respectively. The investigated yield traits showed complex genetic behaviour. The genetic advance confronted a moderate to high heritability for spikelets/spike and grain yield/plant.The traits conditioned by dominant genetic effects in normal irrigation were inversely controlled by additive genetic effects under drought and vice versa. The magnitude of dominance effects for phenological and yield traits,i.e.,leaf twist, auricle hairiness, grain yield/plant,spikelets,and grains/spike suggests that selection by the pedigree method is appropriate for improving these traits under normal irrigation conditions and could serve as an indirect selection index for improving yield-oriented traits in wheat populations for drought tolerance. However, the phenotypic selection could be more than effective for traits conditioned by additive genetic effects under drought. We suggest five significant cross combinations based on heterotic and heterobeltiotic potential of wheat genotypes for improved yield and enhanced biological production of wheat in advanced generations under drought.Iqra Ishaaq Muhammad Umer Farooq Syeda Anjum Tahira Rizwana Maqbool Celaleddin Barutçular Muhammad Yasir Saira Bano Zaid Ulhassan Ghassan Zahid Muhammad Ahsan Asghar Sajad Hussain Kocsy Gabor Ulkar Ibrahimova Jianqing Zhu Anshu Rastogi 2022Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2022,91,12:0
Ethnopharmacological Survey of Plants Used for the Treatment of Stomach,Diabetes, and Ophthalmic Diseases in Sudhan Gali,Kashmir,Pakistan显示文摘The present paper represents the ethnopharmacological survey of Sudhan Gali,Kashmir,Pakistan. The study revealed that 12 plant species belonging to 11 families were used for the treatment of stomach, diabetes and ophthalmic diseases by the local people in Sudhan Gali.Achillea millefolium,Aconitum heterophyllum,Berberis lycium,Polygonum amplexicaule,Mentha longifolia,Paeonia emodi,Plantago lanceolata were locally used for stomach related problems treatment;Berberis lycium,Skimmia lareola,Solanum dulcamara for diabetes and Geranium wallichianum,Artemisia vulgaris,Solanum dulcamara, and Corydalis crassifolia used for the treatment of ophthalmic diseases. Two species Berberis lycium and Solanum dulcamara have multipurpose value.Former is used to treat stomach as well as diabetes while latter is used to treat not only to diabetes but also ophthalmic diseases.According to IUCN categories, out of these 12 plant species collected and marketed,Polygonum amplexicaule and Paeonia emodi are endangered,Aconitum heterophyllum;Berberis lycium species are vulnerable while Plantago lanceolata and Skimmia lareola species are rare. The availability of these medicinal plants has decreased during the past 20 years and these are facing a drastic biotic pressure due to their extensive usage and non-scientific methods of collection. It is quite evident that these valuable native medicinal plants species are going to decline in number and ultimately will become extinct if no timely proper conservation strategies are adopted.Muhammad Waseem M.Amin Ullah Shah Rizwana Aleem Qureshi Iqbal Muhammad Rabia Afza Saeeda Yousaf 2006云南植物研究2006,28,5:0
