| 1 | Making structured metals transparent for broadband electromagnetic waves显示文摘In this review,we present our recent work on making structured metals transparent for broadband electromagnetic waves by surface plasmons(SPs)or spoof surface plasmons(SSPs).First,we demonstrate that the interference between the localized and propagating SPs plays an important role in the optical transmission through arrays of sub-wavelength holes.The observed phenomena belong to the category of plasmonic Fano efects.Second,we show that the transmission enhancement originates not only from the coupling between the incident light and the excited SPs but also from the coupling among these SPs in multiple nano-aperture stacks.Finally,we demonstrate that metallic plates with narrow slit arrays can become transparent within extremely broad spectral bandwidths,and high transmission efciency is insensitive to the thickness of the metal.This phenomenon explicitly demonstrates the conversion between light and SPs.These investigations provide guidelines to develop many novel materials and devices,such as transparent conducting panels,antireflective solar cells,and other broadband metamaterials. | MENG Chong PENG RuWen FAN RenHao HUANG XianRong WANG Mu | 2013 | Science China(Information Sciences)2013,56,12: | 3 |
| 2 | Impacts of exercise intervention on various diseases in rats显示文摘Background:Exercise is considered as an important intervention for treatment and prevention of several diseases,such as osteoarthritis,obesity,hypertension,and Alzheimer's disease.This review summarizes decadal exercise intervention studies with various rat models across 6 major systems to provide a better understanding of the mechanisms behind the effects that exercise brought.Methods:PubMed was utilized as the data source.To collect research articles,we used the following terms to create the search:(exercise[Title]OR physical activity[Title]OR training[Title])AND(rats[Title/Abstract]OR rat[Title/Abstract]OR rattus[Title/Abstract]).To best cover targeted studies,publication dates were limited to'within 11 years.'The exercise intervention methods used for different diseases were sorted according to the mode,frequency,and intensity of exercise.Results:The collected articles were categorized into studies related to 6 systems or disease types:motor system(17 articles),metabolic system(110 articles),cardiocerebral vascular system(171 articles),nervous system(71 articles),urinary system(2 articles),and cancer(21 articles).Our review found that,for different diseases,exercise intervention mostly had a positive effect.However,the most powerful effect was achieved by using a specific mode of exercise that addressed the characteristics of the disease.Conclusion:As a model animal,rats not only provide a convenient resource for studying human diseases but also provide the possibility for exploring the molecular mechanisms of exercise intervention on diseases.This review also aims to provide exercise intervention frameworks and optimal exercise dose recommendations for further human exercise intervention research. | Ruwen Wang Haili Tian Dandan Guo Qianqian Tian Ting Yao Xingxing Kong | 2020 | Journal of Sport and Health Science2020,9,3: | 3 |

| 5 | Breakdown of Maxwell Garnett theory due to evanescent fields at deep-subwavelength scale显示文摘Deep-subwavelength all-dielectric composite materials are believed to tightly obey the Maxwell Garnett effective medium theory. Here, we demonstrate that the Maxwell Garnett theory could break down due to evanescent fields in deep-subwavelength dielectric structures. By using two-and three-dimensional dielectric composite materials with inhomogeneities at a scale of λ∕100, we show that local evanescent fields generally occur near the dielectric inhomogeneities. When tiny absorptive constituents are placed there, the absorption and transmission of the whole composite will show strong dependence on the positions of the absorptive constituents. The Maxwell Garnett theory fails to predict such position-dependent characteristics because it averages out the evanescent fields. By taking the distribution of the evanescent fields into consideration, we have made a correction to the Maxwell Garnett theory so that the position-dependent characteristics become predictable. We reveal not only the breakdown of the Maxwell Garnett theory, but also a unique phenomenon of 'invisible' loss induced by the prohibition of electric fields at deep-subwavelength scales. | 6 | Ultra-broadband reflectionless Brewster absorber protected by reciprocity显示文摘The Brewster’s law predicts zero reflection of p-polarization on a dielectric surface at a particular angle.However,when loss is introduced into the permittivity of the dielectric,the Brewster condition breaks down and reflection unavoidably appears.In this work,we found an exception to this long-standing dilemma by creating a class of nonmagnetic anisotropic metamaterials,where anomalous Brewster effects with independently tunable absorption and refraction emerge.This loss-independent Brewster effect is bestowed by the extra degrees of freedoms introduced by anisotropy and strictly protected by the reciprocity principle.The bandwidth can cover an extremely wide spectrum from dc to optical frequencies.Two examples of reflectionless Brewster absorbers with different Brewster angles are both demonstrated to achieve large absorbance in a wide spectrum via microwave experiments.Our work extends the scope of Brewster effect to the horizon of nonmagnetic absorptive materials,which promises an unprecedented wide bandwidth for reflectionless absorption with high efficiency. | Jie Luo Hongchen Chu Ruwen Peng Mu Wang Jensen Li Yun Lai | 2021 | Light(Science & Applications)2021,10,5: | 0 |

| 8 | Lower serum magnesium concentration and higher 24-h urinary magnesium excretion despite higher dietary magnesium intake in athletes:a systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘Magnesium plays a critical role in the human's life activities and energy metabolism. This study aimed to evaluate the magnesium status of athletes via a systematic review of cross-sectional studies. A comprehensive systematic search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, SPORTDiscus, Cochrane Library electronic databases, and other sources before April 5, 2021. Fourteen studies were included in the systematic review, involving 855 athletes and 521 control subjects. Serum magnesium concentration was significantly lower in athletes(mean difference(MD):-0.04 mmol/L;95% confidence interval(CI):-0.06 to-0.01;P = 0.02)in spite of significantly higher dietary magnesium intake(MD: 51.72 mg/day;95% CI: 14.62 to 88.83;P = 0.006). Meta-analysis showed that 24-h urinary magnesium excretion in athletes was significantly higher than that in the untrained population(MD: 0.76 mmol/day;95% CI: 0.11 to 1.41;P = 0.02). Despite higher total dietary magnesium intake, athletes generally have lower serum magnesium concentration and higher 24-h urinary magnesium excretion, demonstrating that the magnesium requirement of athletes is higher than the untrained population.
