1Ultrafast synthesis and sintering of materials in a single running experiment approach by using electric fields显示文摘Processing of materials in the form of ceramics normally involves several steps including calcination at a relatively low temperature for synthesis of the end-product powder and sintering at a high temperature for densification.The work we have been developing introduces a novel approach enabling synthesis plus sintering of materials in a single running experiment by using electric fields,ending with dense ceramics that display grains noticeably finer than in conventional processing.This new paradigm is fully illustrated with experiments conducted on amorphous CaCu3Ti4O12 precursor powder,shown to experience,on heating,crystallization through intermediate phases,followed by chemical reaction leading to synthesis of the end-product powder,plus densification depending on field adjustment.The processing time and furnace temperature are considerably reduced,demonstrating that enhanced synthesis and sintering rates applied under field input.Similar results found in Bi2/3Cu3Ti4O12are also shown.The different factors that may contribute to this unique scenario,including Joule heating,defect generation,and reduction of free energy for nuclei formation promoted by the applied field,are briefly discussed.Overall,the findings we bring here are exclusive as they show an exploitable way that allows rapid processing of materials with good control over particle and grain coarsening.Lílian M.JESUS Ronaldo S.SILVA Jean-Claude M’PEKO 2019Journal of Advanced Ceramics2019,8,2:2

5Multi-mechanical waves against Alzheimer’s disease pathology:a systematic review显示文摘Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is the most common cause of dementia,afecting approximately 40 million people worldwide.The inefectiveness of the available pharmacological treatments against AD has fostered researchers to focus on alternative strategies to overcome this challenge.Mechanical vibrations delivered in diferent stimulation modes have been associated with marked improvements in cognitive and physical performance in both demented and nondemented elderly.Some of the mechanical-based stimulation modalities in eforts are earlier whole-body vibration,transcranial ultrasound stimulation with microbubble injection,and more recently,auditory stimulation.However,there is a huge variety of treatment specifcations,and in many cases,conficting results are reported.In this review,a search on Scopus,PubMed,and Web of Science databases was performed,resulting in 37 papers.These studies suggest that mechanical vibrations delivered through diferent stimulation modes are efective in attenuating many parameters of AD pathology including functional connectivity and neuronal circuit integrity defcits in the brains of AD patients,as well as in subjects with cognitive decline and non-demented older adults.Despite the evolving preclinical and clinical evidence on these therapeutic modalities,their translation into clinical practice is not consolidated yet.Thus,this comprehensive and critical systematic review aims to address the most important gaps in the reviewed protocols and propose optimal regimens for future clinical application.Francisca Monteiro Ioannis Sotiropoulos Óscar Carvalho Nuno Sousa Filipe S.Silva 2021Translational Neurodegeneration2021,10,3:0

8Non-aerated liquid culture promotes shoot organogenesis in Eucalyptus globulus Labill显示文摘Eucalyptus is very recalcitrant to in vitro culture.In this research, an efficient shoot organogenesis system was developed using 60-day-old plants of Eucalyptus globulus grown in vitro and non-aerated liquid medium to improve shoot proliferation. Cultures were initiated with hypocotyls and leaf segments from plantlets cultivated on semisolid 1/2 MS modified medium supplemented with 4.44 μM 6-Benzyladenine(BA) and 16.1 μM 1-Naphthaleneacetic acid(NAA). Calli were transferred to shoot induction medium, with either 0.5 or 2.7 μM NAA. Shoot multiplication was carried out on 4.44 μM BA + 0.5 μM NAA medium, and semisolid and non-aerated liquid systems were compared for improving shoot proliferation.Rooting of adventitious shoots was evaluated on medium containing NAA or Indole-3-butyric acid-IBA(5 and16 μM). Callogenesis was obtained from both types of explants, although shoot formation was only obtained from leaf-derived calli. Shoot proliferation on 4.44 μM BA+0.5 μM NAA resulted in the most shoots/callus.Non-aerated liquid medium was more efficient in promoting shoot multiplication(53.5 shoots/callus) than was semisolid medium(28.5 shoots/callus). Levels of phenolic compounds were significantly reduced in the shoots cultivated in liquid medium. 9QUASILINEAR EQUATIONS USING A LINKING STRUCTURE WITH CRITICAL NONLINEARITIES显示文摘It is to establish existence of a weak solution for quasilinear elliptic problems assuming that the nonlinear term is critical.The potential V is bounded from below and above by positive constants.Because we are considering a critical term which interacts with higher eigenvalues for the linear problem,we need to apply a linking theorem.Notice that the lack of compactness,which comes from critical problems and the fact that we are working in the whole space,are some obstacles for us to ensure existence of solutions for quasilinear elliptic problems.The main feature in this article is to restore some compact results which are essential in variational methods.Recall that compactness conditions such as the Palais-Smale condition for the associated energy functional is not available in our setting.This difficulty is overcame by taking into account some fine estimates on the critical level for an auxiliary energy functional.Edcarlos D.SILVA Jefferson S.SILVA 2022Acta Mathematica Scientia2022,42,3:0
