1Phosphorus recovery from wastewater by struvite crystallization:Property of aggregates显示文摘Struvite crystallization is a promising method to remove and recover phosphorus from wastewater to ease both the scarcity of phosphorus rock resources and water eutrophication worldwide. To date, although various kinds of reactor systems have been developed, supporting methods are required to control the struvite fines flushing out of the reactors. As an intrinsic property, aggregation is normally disregarded in the struvite crystallization process, although it is the key factor in final particle size and therefore guarantees phosphorus recovery efficiency. The present study developed a method to analyze the characteristics of struvite aggregates using fractal geometry, and the influence of operational parameters on struvite aggregation was evaluated. Due to its typical orthorhombic molecular structure, struvite particles are prone to crystallize into needle or rod shapes, and aggregate at the corners or edges of crystals. The determined fractal dimension(Dpf) of struvite aggregates was 1.52–1.31, with the corresponding range of equivalent diameter(d0.5) at 295.9–85.4 μm. Aggregates formed in relatively low phosphorus concentrations(3.0–5.0 mmol/L) and mildly alkaline conditions(pH 9.0–9.5) displayed relatively compact structures, large aggregate sizes and high aggregation strength. Increasing pH values led to continuous decrease of aggregate sizes, while the variation of Dpfwas insignificant. 2Methane emissions from rice fields under continuous straw return in the middle-lower reaches of the Yangtze River显示文摘A three-year experiment was conducted in the middle-lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China to study the influence of continuous wheat straw return during the rice season and continuous rice straw return in wheat on methane (CH 4 ) emissions from rice fields in which, the rice-wheat rotation system is the most dominant planting pattern. The field experiment was initiated in October 2009 and has continued since the wheat-growing season of that year. The analyses for the present study were conducted in the second (2011) and third (2012) rice growing seasons. Four treatments, namely, the continuous return of wheat straw and rice straw in every season (WR), of rice straw but no wheat straw return (R), of wheat straw but no rice straw return (W) and a control with no straw return (CK), were laid out in a randomized split-plot design. The total seasonal CH 4 emissions ranged from 107.4 to 491.7 kg/ha (2011) and 160.3 to 909.6 kg/ha (2012). The increase in CH 4 emissions for treatments WR and W were 289% and 230% in the second year and 185% and 225% in the third year, respectively, in relation to CK. We observed less methane emissions in the treatment R than in CK by 14%-43%, but not statistically significant. Treatment R could increase rice productivity while no more CH 4 emission occurs. 3Selection of cost-effective magnesium sources for fluidized struvite crystallization显示文摘Struvite crystallization has been considered a promising approach to recover phosphorus from wastewater. However, its practical application is limited, probably because of the high cost of magnesium(Mg). In this study, a comprehensive economic analysis was conducted using five Mg sources(MgCl_2, MgSO_4, MgO, Mg(OH)_2, and bittern) during the operation of a pilot-scale fluidized bed reactor(FBR), using swine wastewater as the case matrix. First, the economic operating conditions were investigated, and subsequently, the performance and the costs of the five Mg sources were compared. The results indicated that the FBR could be operated most economically at pH of 8.5 and Mg to phosphorus(Mg/P) molar ratio of 1.5. Under these conditions, no significant differences in phosphorus removal and product quality could be found between the five Mg sources. Selecting the most economical Mg source was thus highly dependent on the prices of the reagents and Mg sources. Low-solubility Mg sources were preferable when NaOH was priced higher, while high-solubility Mg sources proved more economical when HNO_3 was expensive. The bittern was the most economical choice only when the distances for total inorganic orthophosphate removal and struvite recovery were shorter than 40 and 270 km, respectively. 5Wearable wireless real-time cerebral oximeter for measuring regional cerebral oxygen saturation显示文摘Monitoring regional cerebral oxygen saturation throughout the perioperative clinical process is important for successful patient outcomes.Cerebral oximeters based on near-infrared spectroscopy(NIRS)have already been used for monitoring brain oxygenation and hemodynamics to avoid intraoperative ischemic stroke and reduce postoperative cognitive dysfunction.The current devices are all designed to be used as a bedside monitor,limiting their use to situations that center around a hospital bed.There is a current lack of wearable,miniaturized,wireless equipment that can extend brain oxygenation monitoring to motion tasks or tight spaces.We design a head-mounted wearable wireless oxygen saturation monitoring on head(WORTH)band based on NIRS for monitoring regional cerebral oxygen saturation.The band is embedded with a highly integrated central block,which comprises an optical module,a microprocessor unit,a wireless communication module,and a power management module.The performance of the WORTH band is evaluated by a controlled hypoxia experiment and a squat-to-stand experiment.The results confirm that the WORTH band can record cerebral oxygen saturation with an accuracy comparable to that of a clinical monitor and demonstrate that it is also effective during motion tasks.Juanning SI Xin ZHANG Meng LI Jian YU Zhiyong ZHANG Qing HE Shaohua CHEN Lianqing ZHU Tianzi JIANG 2021Science China(Information Sciences)2021,64,1:4
6Numerical simulation of flow hydrodynamics of struvite pellets in a liquid–solid fluidized bed显示文摘Phosphorus recovery in the form of struvite has been aroused in recent decades for its dual advantages in eutrophication control and resource protection.The usage of the struvite products is normally determined by the size which is largely depended on the hydrodynamics.In this study,flow behavior of struvite pellets was simulated by means of Eulerian–Eulerian two-fluid model combining with kinetic theory of granular flow in a liquid–solid fluidized bed reactor(FBR).A parametric study including the mesh size,time step,discretization strategy,turbulent model and drag model was first developed,followed by the evaluations of crucial operational conditions,particle characteristics and reactor shapes.The results showed that a cold model with the mesh resolution of 16 × 240,default time step of 0.001 sec and first order discretization scheme was accurate enough to describe the fluidization.The struvite holdup profile using Syamlal–O'Brien drag model was best fitted to the experimental data as compared with other drag models and the empirical Richardson–Zaki equation.Regarding the model evaluation,it showed that liquid velocity and particle size played important roles on both solid holdups and velocities.The reactor diameter only influenced the solid velocity while the static bed height almost took no effect.These results are direct and can be applied to guide the operation and process control of the struvite fluidization.Moreover,the model parameters can also be used as the basic settings in further crystallization simulations.Xin Ye Dongyuan Chu Yaoyin Lou Zhi-Long Ye Ming Kuang Wang Shaohua Chen 2017Journal of Environmental Sciences2017,29,7:3
7Sorption behavior of tetracyclines on suspended organic matters originating from swine wastewater显示文摘Tetracyclines(TCs) discharged from livestock wastewater have aroused public concerns due to their pharmacological threats to ecosystems and human health. As an important medium in the wastewater, suspended organic matters(SOMs) play vital roles in antibiotics transport and degradation. However, limited information has been reported in the relevant literature. This study investigated TCs sorption behavior on SOM, withdrawn from swine wastewater. High TCs sorption capacities were detected, with the maximum values ranging from 0.337 to 0.679 mg/g. Increasing p H and temperature led to the decline of sorption capacity. Results from three-dimensional excitation–emission matrix fluorescence spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry revealed that amide and carboxyl groups were the main functional groups for TCs adsorption. The interactions between SOM and TCs were clarified as predominated by hydrogen-bonding and cation-exchange in acid conditions, and electrostatic repulsion in neutral or alkaline conditions. Adsorption kinetics modeling was conducted, and a satisfactory fitting was achieved with the Freundlich equation. These results indicated that the adsorption process was a rather complex process, involving a combination of cation-exchange and hydrogen-bonding. 8Comparative metabolic profiling of Vitis amurensis and Vitis vinifera during cold acclimation显示文摘Vitis amurensis is a wild Vitis plant that can withstand extreme cold temperatures.However,the accumulation of metabolites during cold acclimation(CA)in V.amurensis remains largely unknown.In this study,plantlets of V.amurensis and V.vinifera cv.Muscat of Hamburg were treated at 4℃ for 24 and 72 h,and changes of metabolites in leaves were detected by gas chromatography coupled with time-of-flight mass spectrometry.Most of the identified metabolites,including carbohydrates,amino acids,and organic acids,accumulated in the two types of grape after CA.Galactinol,raffinose,fructose,mannose,glycine,and ascorbate were continuously induced by cold in V.amurensis,but not in Muscat of Hamburg.Twelve metabolites,including isoleucine,valine,proline,2-oxoglutarate,and putrescine,increased in V.amurensis during CA.More galactinol,ascorbate,2-oxoglutarate,and putrescine,accumulated in V.amurensis,but not in Muscat of Hamburg,during CA,which may be responsible for the excellent cold tolerance in V.amurensis.The expression levels of the genes encodingβ-amylase(BAMY),galactinol synthase(GolS),and raffinose synthase(RafS)were evaluated by quantitative reverse transcription-PCR.The expression BAMY(VIT_02s0012 g00170)and RafS(VIT_05s0077 g00840)were primarily responsible for the accumulation of maltose and raffinose,respectively.The accumulation of galactinol was attributed to different members of GolS in the two grapes.In conclusion,these results show the inherent differences in metabolites between V.amurensis and V.vinifera under CA.Fengmei Chai Wenwen Liu Yue Xiang Xianbin Meng Xiaoming Sun Cheng Cheng Guotian Liu Lixin Duan Haiping Xin Shaohua Li 2019Horticulture Research2019,6,1:3
9Glucagon-like peptide 1 reverses myocardial hypertrophy through cAMP/PKA/RhoA/ROCK2 signaling显示文摘Myocardial hypertrophy is a major pathological and physiological process during heart failure.Glucagon-like peptide 1(GLP-1)is a glucagon incretin hormone released from the gut endocrine L-cells that has protective effects on various cardiovascular diseases,in eluding hyperte nsion,atherosclerosis,and myocardial hypertrophy.However,the protective mechanisms of GLP-1 in myocardial hypertrophy remain unclear.Here,we showed that the GLP-1 agonist liraglutide and dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitor alogliptin decreased heart weight and cardiac muscle cell volume in spontaneously hypertensive rats(SHR).In H9C2 cell hypertensive models induced by angiotensin II,GLP-1 treatment reduced myocardial cell volume,inhibited the expressions of atrial natriuretie peptide,brain/B-type natriuretic peptide,p-myosin heavy chain,RhoA,and ROCK2,and decreased MLC and MYPT1 phosphorylation.When H9C2 cells were treated with H89,a PKA inhibitor,the inhibitory effect of GLP-1 disappeared,while the inhibitory role was enhaneed under the treatment of Y-27632,a ROCK2 inhibitor.These results suggested that GLP-1 might reverse myocardial hypertrophy through the PKA/RhoA/ROCK2 signaling pathway.Shaohua Fan Qianfeng Xiong Xin Zhang Lihui Zhang Yawei Shi 2020Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2020,52,6:2
10Construction of mesoporous ceria-supported gold catalysts with rich oxygen vacancies for efficient CO oxidation显示文摘Bearing unique redox nature and high oxygen storage capacity,ceria(CeO_(2))has always been a promising CO oxidation catalyst support for gold(Au)catalysts and the like.Herein,a series of Au-CeO_(2)-P(P stands for pH value)samples was prepared by a co-precipitation method with the assistance of an alkaline environment and amino groups functionalized ordered mesoporous polymer(OMP-NH_(2)).Afterward,all samples described above were characterized that the Au-CeO_(2)-P catalysts are made of Au-Ce-O solid solution and Au nanoparticles(NPs)supported on CeO_(2).It turns out that OMP-NH_(2) is not just a simple sacrificial template for mesoporous structure,but also plays an important role as an amino source,explaining the presence of rich oxygen vacancies.Due to the concentration of oxygen vacancies in Au-Ce-O solid solution is the key factor for the oxygen mobility of CO oxidation,the catalytic results also demonstrate that the catalytic activity of Au-CeO_(2)-P catalysts is related to the concentration of their oxygen vacancies.Moreover,Au-CeO_(2)-9.6 with a highest concentration of oxygen vacancies(as high as 13.98%)in Au-CeO_(2)-P catalysts exhibits the best catalytic activity(complete conversion at 10℃).Xin Shen Wang Li Shunmin Ding Xiaohua Ma Shaohua Wu Weiming Xiao Rong Zeng Sanguo Hong Chao Chen 2022Journal of Rare Earths2022,40,3:2

13Glucagon-like peptide-1 attenuates cardiac hypertrophy via the AngII/AT1R/ACE2 and AMPK/mTOR/p70S6K pathways显示文摘Glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1),a novel type of glucose-lowering agent,has been reported to exert cardioprotective effects.However,the cardioprotective mechanism of GLP-1 on spontaneous hypertension-induced cardiac hypertrophy has not been fully elucidated.In this study,we revealed that liraglutide or alogliptin treatment ameliorated spontaneous hypertension-induced cardiac hypertrophy,as evidenced by decreased levels of cardiac hypertrophic markers(atrial natriuretic peptide,brain natriuretic peptide,andβ-myosin heavy chain),as well as systolic blood pressure,diastolic blood pressure,mean arterial pressure,and histological changes.Both drugs significantly reduced the levels of angiotensin II(AngII)and AngII type 1 receptor(AT1R)and upregulated the levels of AngII type 2 receptor(AT2R)and angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2),as indicated by a reduced AT1R/AT2R ratio.Simultaneously,treatment with liraglutide or alogliptin significantly increased GLP-1 receptor expression and adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase(AMPK)phosphorylation and downregulated the phosphorylation of mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR),p70 ribosomal S6 protein kinase,and eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E binding protein 1 in spontaneous hypertension rats.Furthermore,our data demonstrated that the AMPK inhibitor compound C or mTOR activator MHY1485 inhibited the anti-hypertrophic effect of GLP-1.In summary,our study suggests that liraglutide or alogliptin protects the heart against cardiac hypertrophy by regulating the expression of AngII/AT1R/ACE2 and activating the AMPK/mTOR pathway,and GLP-1 agonist can be used in the treatment of patients with cardiac hypertrophy.Jing Wang Shaohua Fan Qianfeng Xiong Yu Niu Xin Zhang Junnan Qin Yawei Shi Lihui Zhang 2021Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2021,53,9:1

18Construction of Ad-EGFP-BDNF vector and its expression in neural stem cells显示文摘BACKGROUND:Brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) provides nourishment to injured neurons.Neural stem cells can differentiate into neurons to repair neuronal injury in vivo.It has been hypothesized that continuous secretion of BDNF from neural stem cells could benefit brain injury repair.OBJECTIVE:To transfect BDNF and enhanced green fluorescent protein(EGFP) into neural stem cells with adenovirus vector and to observe expression of BDNF and EGFP in transfected neural stem cells.DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:Observational,cellular,molecular study was performed at the Biochemistry Laboratory,Tongji University School of Medicine,China from July 2004 to September 2006.MATERIALS:Neural stem cells were provided by the Anatomy and Histoembryology Laboratory of Fudan University Medical School,China.METHODS:BDNF cDNA was extracted by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction from the rat hippocampus.Following gene cloning and packaging by HEK293.BDNF,the EGFP gene was transfected into cultured neural stem cells with the Ad-EGFP-BDNF vector.BDNF-expressing neural stem cell clones were selected by G418 selection.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:EGFP expression and cell morphology were observed by fluorescent microscopy;neural stem cell expressing BDNF mRNA was examined by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction;BDNF expression was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay from supernatant of infected neural stem cells.RESULTS:High transfection efficiency was obtained using 5 × 108 virus titers to transfect neural stem cells.G418-resistant neural stem cell clones integrated BDNF mRNA fragments.Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay results showed that BDNF expression in the supernatant increased with increasing culture time and peaked at 72 hours.CONCLUSION:Adenovirus-mediated BDNF and EGFP genes were successfully transfected into neural stem cells and were expressed in neural stem cells for a long period of time.Shaohua Li Zhenhua Li Huilong Wen Xin Gu Yinjiang Cui Yang Wang Lixia Lu Yanna Li Manli Na 2010Neural Regeneration Research2010,5,13:1
