| 1 | Phosphogypsum stabilization of bauxite residue:Conversion of its alkaline characteristics显示文摘Reduction of the high alkalinity of bauxite residue is a key problem to solve to make it suitable for plant growth and comprehensive utilization. In this study, phosphogypsum, a waste product from the phosphate fertilizer industry, was used to drive the alkaline transformation of the bauxite residue. Under optimal water washing conditions(liquid/solid ratio of 2 mL/g, 30°C, 24 hr), the impact of quantity added, reaction time and reaction mechanism during phosphogypsum application were investigated. Phosphogypsum addition effectively lowered p H levels and reduced the soluble alkalinity by 92.2%. It was found that the concentration of soluble Na and Ca ions in the supernatant increased gradually, whilst the exchangeable Na+and Ca^(2+)in solid phase changed 112 mg/kg and 259 mg/kg, respectively. Ca^(2+)became the dominant element in the solid phase(phosphogypsum addition of 2%, liquid/solid ratio of 2 mL/g, 30°C, 12 hr). X-ray diffraction data indicated that cancrinite and hydrogarnet were the primary alkaline minerals. SEM images suggested that phosphogypsum could promote the formation of stable macroaggregates, whilst the content of Ca^(2+)increased from 5.6% to 18.2% and Na reduced from 6.8% to 2.4%. | 2 | Changes in distribution and microstructure of bauxite residue aggregates following amendments addition显示文摘Bauxite residue is a highly alkaline byproduct which is routinely discarded at residue disposal areas. Improving soil formation process to revegetate the special degraded lands is a promising strategy for sustainable management of the refining industry. A laboratory incubation experiment was used to evaluate the effects of gypsum and vermicompost on stable aggregate formation of bauxite residue. Aggregate size distribution was quantified by fractal theory, whilst residue microstructure was determined by scanning electron microscopy and synchrotron-based X-ray micro-computed tomography. Amendments addition increased the content of macro-aggregates(> 250 μm) and enhanced aggregate stability of bauxite residue. Following gypsum and vermicompost addition, fractal dimension decreased from 2.84 to 2.77, which indicated a more homogeneous distribution of aggregate particles. Images from scanning electron microscopy and three-dimensional microstructure demonstrated that amendments stimulate the formation of improved structure in residue aggregates. Pore parameters including porosity, pore throat surface area, path length, and path tortuosity increased under amendment additions. | 3 | Arsenic dynamics in the rhizosphere and its sequestration on rice roots as affected by root oxidation显示文摘A pot experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of root oxidation on arsenic(As) dynamics in the rhizosphere and As sequestration on rice roots. There were significant differences(P < 0.05) in pH values between rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere soils, with pH 5.68–6.16 in the rhizosphere and 6.30–6.37 in non-rhizosphere soils as well as differences in redox potentials(P < 0.05). Percentage arsenite was lower(4%–16%) in rhizosphere soil solutions from rice genotypes with higher radial oxygen loss(ROL) compared with genotypes with lower ROL(P < 0.05). Arsenic concentrations in iron plaque and rice straw were significantly negatively correlated(R =-0.60, P < 0.05). Genotypes with higher ROL(TD71 and Yinjingruanzhan) had significantly(P < 0.001) lower total As in rice grains(1.35 and 0.96 mg/kg, respectively) compared with genotypes with lower ROL(IAPAR9, 1.68 mg/kg; Nanyangzhan 2.24 mg/kg) in the As treatment, as well as lower inorganic As(P < 0.05). The present study showed that genotypes with higher ROL could oxidize more arsenite in rhizosphere soils, and induce more Fe plaque formation, which subsequently sequestered more As. This reduced As uptake in aboveground plant tissues and also reduced inorganic As accumulation in rice grains. | 6 | Study on growth of coarse grains of diamond with high quality under HPHT显示文摘The growth of coarse grains of diamond was observed with graphite as carbon source and Fe80Ni20 alloy powder as catalyst at HPHT in a China-type SPD 6×1670T cubic high-pressure apparatus with highly exact control system. To synthesize coarse grains of diamond crystal with high quality,ad-vanced indirect heat assembly,powder catalyst technology and catalyst with optimal granularity were used. Especially the nucleation of diamond and the growth rate were strictly controlled by the opti-mized synthesis craft. At last,diamond crystals (about 0.85 mm) in the perfect hex-octahedron shape were successfully synthesized at ~5.4 GPa and ~1360℃ in 60 min. The characteristic of crystal growth with powder catalyst technology under HPHT was discussed. | 7 | Design and Analysis of Gecko-like Robot显示文摘Gecko-like robot(Geckobot),an important branch of bionic robotics,is a robot that simulates gecko's capacity to climb walls and ceilings.The work environment of the traditional wall-climbing robot is greatly limited as the moving structure and adsorption principle of the robot have nothing to do with the real gecko.However,the adsorption principle and moving mode of the real gecko can provide a new way to break through the restrictions of the traditional wall-climbing robot.Inspired by the moving mechanism of geckos, this paper develops the Geckobot with motile body.Two types of Geckobots are addressed:one with compliant flat bar as the body,and the other with prismatic joint as the body.The compliant body not only resembles the moving mode of the real gecko body,but also simplifies the Geckobot's structure.The prismatic joint body is used to adapt the change of body length in ground-to-wall transition. | 8 | Optimizing Mechanical Properties of AlCoCrFeNiTi_x High-Entropy Alloys by Tailoring Microstructures显示文摘The effects of Ti addtions and the heat treatment on the mechanical properties of AlCoCrFeNiTix (x = 0, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5) high-entropy alloys (HEAs) were studied. The results show that the dendrite phase with a body-centered-cubic (bcc) structure transforms into the interdendrite phase with a new bcc structure. With the increase of the Ti contents and heat-treatment temperature, the average hardness and yield strengths are greatly improved, and the highest hardness and yielding strength are 583 HV and 2.07 GPa, respectively in the investigated HEA system. The as-cast and annealed HEAs exhibit excellent mechanical properties, combining with high yielding strength and plasticity. | 11 | Soil heavy metal pollution from Pb/Zn smelting regions in China and the remediation potential of biomineralization显示文摘Smelting activities pose serious environmental problems due to the local and regional heavy metal pollution in soils they cause. It is therefore important to understand the pollution situation and its source in the contaminated soils. In this paper, data on heavy metal pollution in soils resulting from Pb/Zn smelting(published in the last 10 years) in China was summarized. The heavy metal pollution was analyzed from a macroscopic point of view. The results indicated that Pb, Zn, As and Cd were common contaminants that were present in soils with extremely high concentrations. Because of the extreme carcinogenicity, genotoxicity and neurotoxicity that heavy metals pose, remediation of the soils contaminated by smelting is urgently required. The primary anthropogenic activities contributing to soil pollution in smelting areas and the progressive development of accurate source identification were performed. Due to the advantages of biominerals, the potential of biomineralization for heavy metal contaminated soils was introduced. | 13 | High rumen degradable starch decreased goat milk fat via trans-10,cis-12 conjugated linoleic acid-mediated downregulation of lipogenesis genes,particularly,INSIG1显示文摘Background:Starch is an important substance that supplies energy to ruminants.To provide sufficient energy for high-yielding dairy ruminants,they are typically fed starch-enriched diets.However,starch-enriched diets have been proven to increase the risk of milk fat depression(MFD)in dairy cows.The starch present in ruminant diets could be divided into rumen-degradable starch(RDS)and rumen escaped starch(RES)according to their different degradation sites(rumen or intestine).Goats and cows have different sensitivities to MFD.Data regarding the potential roles of RDS in milk fat synthesis in the mammary tissue of dairy goats and in regulating the occurrence of MFD are limited.Results:Eighteen Guanzhong dairy goats(day in milk=185±12 d)with similar parity,weight,and milk yield were selected and randomly assigned to one of three groups(n=6),which were fed an LRDS diet(Low RDS=20.52%),MRDS diet(Medium RDS=22.15%),or HRDS diet(High RDS=24.88%)for 5 weeks.Compared with that of the LRDS group,the milk fat contents in the MRDS and HRDS groups significantly decreased.The yields of short-,mediumand long-chain fatty acids decreased in the HRDS group.Furthermore,increased RDS significantly decreased ruminal B.fibrisolvens and Pseudobutyrivibrio abundances and increased the trans-10,cis-12 conjugated linoleic acid(CLA)and trans-10 C18:1 contents in the rumen fluid.A multiomics study revealed that the HRDS diet affected mammary lipid metabolism down-regulation of ACSS2,MVD,AGPS,SCD5,FADS2,CERCAM,SC5D,HSD17B7,HSD17B12,ATM,TP53RK,GDF1 and LOC102177400.Remarkably,the significant decrease of INSIG1,whose expression was depressed by trans-10,cis-12 CLA,could reduce the activity of SREBP and,consequently,downregulate the downstream gene expression of SREBF1.Conclusions:HRDS-induced goat MFD resulted from the downregulation of genes involved in lipogenesis,particularly,INSIG1.Specifically,even though the total starch content and the concentrate-to-fiber ratio were the same as those of the high-RDS diet,the low and medium RDS diets did not cause MFD in lactating goats. | Lixin Zheng Shengru Wu Jing Shen Xiaoying Han Chunjia Jin Xiaodong Chen Shengguo Zhao Yangchun Cao Junhu Yao | 2020 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2020,11,3: | 4 |
| 14 | Establishment and cryopreservation of liver, heart and muscle cell lines derived from the Chinese alligator (Alligator sinensis)显示文摘The Chinese alligator, Alligator sinensis, is a critically endangered species. A conservation project of gene resources for an endangered species first involves the preservation of organs, tissues, gametes, genomic DNA libraries and cell lines. The present study is the first to establish and cryopreserve cell lines of liver, heart and muscle tissues from the Chinese alligator. The study revealed that there was a large discrepancy in cell migration time in primary cultures among liver (11-12 d), heart (13-14 d) and muscle (17-18 d) tissue pieces. The differences in time in primary cell culture suggested that it was relatively easy to build visceral-derived cell lines for reptiles. Biological analysis showed that the population doubling time for thawed cells was approxi- mately 36 h. Karyotyping revealed that the frequency of Chinese alligator cells showing chromosome number as 2n=32 was 88.6%-93.4%. Chinese alligator cell lines established here provide a vital resource for research and are likely to be useful for protection of this rare and critically endangered species. | 17 | A family net of giant pandas in the Tangjiahe Natural Reserve:Assessment of current individual migration显示文摘In the present study, formalin-fixed feces, oli-gonucleotide fingerprinting and SRY-gene based sexing were used to construct a family net for giant pandas in the Tang-jiahe Natural Reserve and to assess contemporary gene flow (migration) in this population. A total of 124 fecal samples were attributed to 37 individuals (22 females and 15 males) that were then analyzed for family relationships. | 18 | Large electrocaloric effect in BaTiO_3 based multilayer ceramic capacitors显示文摘The electrocaloric effect(ECE) of multilayer ceramic capacitor(MLCC) of Y5 V type was directly measured via a differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) method and a reference resistor was used to calibrate the heat flow due to the heat dissipation. The results are compared with those calculated from Maxwell relations by using the polarization data obtained from the polarization–electric field hysteresis loops. The direct method shows a larger ECE temperature change, which is accounted for the situation approaches an ideal condition. For the indirect method using Maxwell relations, only the polarization projection along the electric field was taken into account, which will be less than the randomly distributed real polarizations that contribute to the ECE. | 19 | Urea transport and hydrolysis in the rumen: A review显示文摘Inefficient dietary nitrogen(N)conversion to microbial proteins,and the subsequent use by ruminants,is a major research focus across different fields.Excess bacterial ammonia(NH3)produced due to degradation or hydrolyses of N containing compounds,such as urea,leads to an inefficiency in a host’s ability to utilize nitrogen.Urea is a non-protein N containing compound used by ruminants as an ammonia source,obtained from feed and endogenous sources.It is hydrolyzed by ureases from rumen bacteria to produce NH_(3) which is used for microbial protein synthesis.However,lack of information exists regarding urea hydrolysis in ruminal bacteria,and how urea gets to hydrolysis sites.Therefore,this review describes research on sites of urea hydrolysis,urea transport routes towards these sites,the role and structure of urea transporters in rumen epithelium and bacteria,the composition of ruminal ureolytic bacteria,mechanisms behind urea hydrolysis by bacterial ureases,and factors influencing urea hydrolysis.This review explores the current knowledge on the structure and physiological role of urea transport and ureolytic bacteria,for the regulation of urea hydrolysis and recycling in ruminants.Lastly,underlying mechanisms of urea transportation in rumen bacteria and their physiological importance are currently unknown,and therefore future research should be directed to this subject. | Samson Hailemariam Shengguo Zhao Yue He Jiaqi Wang | 2021 | Animal Nutrition2021,,4: | 3 |
| 20 | Improvements on physical conditions of bauxite residue following application of organic materials显示文摘Soil formation and ecological rehabilitation is the most promising strategy to eliminate environmental risks of bauxite residue disposal areas. Its poor physical structure is nevertheless a major limitation to plant growth. Organic materials were demonstrated as effective ameliorants to improve the physical conditions of bauxite residue. In this study, three different organic materials including straw(5% W/W), humic acid(5% W/W), and humic acidacrylamide polymer(0.2% and 0.4%, W/W) were selected to evaluate their effects on physical conditions of bauxite residue pretreated by phosphogypsum following a 120-day incubation experiment. The proportion of 2-1 mm macro-aggregates, mean weight diameter(MWD) and geometric mean diameter(GWD) increased following organic materials addition, which indicated that organic materials could enhance aggregate stability. Compared with straw, and humic acid, humic acid-acrylamide polymer application had improved effects on the formation of water-stable aggregates in the residues. Furthermore, organic materials increased the total porosity, total pore volume and average pore diameter, and reduced the micropore content according to nitrogen gas adsorption(NA) and mercury intrusion porosimetry(MIP)analysis, whilst enhancing water retention of the residues based on water characteristic curves. Compared with traditional organic wastes, humic acid-acrylamide polymer could be regarded as a candidate according to the comprehensive consideration of the additive amount and the effects on physical conditions of bauxite residue.
