| 1 | Prevalence of clonorchiasis in patients with gastrointestinal disease: A Korean nationwide multicenter survey显示文摘AIM: To investigate prevalence of Clonorchis sinensis in patients with gastrointestinal symptoms, and the relation of the infection to hepatobiliary diseases in 26 hospitals in Korea.METHODS: Consecutive patients who had been admitted to the Division of Gastroenterology with gastrointestinal symptoms were enrolled from March to April 2005. Of those who had been diagnosed with clonorchiasis, epidemiology and correlation between infection and hepatobiliary diseases were surveyed by questionnaire.RESULTS: Of 3080 patients with gastrointestinal diseases, 396 (12.9%) had clonorchiasis and 1140 patients (37.2%) had a history of eating raw freshwater fish. Of those with a history of raw freshwater fish ingestion, 238 (20.9%) patients had clonorchiasis. Cholangiocarcinoma was more prevalent in C. sinensis-infected patients than non-infected patients [34/396 (8.6%) vs 145/2684 (5.4%), P = 0.015]. Cholangiocarcinoma and clonorchiasis showed statistically significant positive cross-relation (P = 0.008). Choledocholithiasis, cholecystolithiasis, cholangitis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and biliary pancreatitis did not correlate with clonorchiasis.CONCLUSION: Infection rate of clonorchiasis was still high in patients with gastrointestinal diseases in Korea, and has not decreased very much during the last two decades. | 2 | Therapeutic effect of DA-9601 on chronic reflux gastritis induced by sodium taurocholate in rats显示文摘AIM: To investigate the therapeutic effects of DA-9601 on sodium taurocholate (TCA)-induced chronic reflux gastritis in SD rats.METHODS: In this study, we have investigated the therapeutic effects of DA-9601 on chronic erosive and atrophic gastritis induced by 6 mo of TCA administration (5 mmol/L in drinking water) in SD rats. RESULTS: Four weeks of DA-9601 administration (0.065%, 0.216% in rat chow), following the withdrawal of TCA treatment, resulted in a significant decrease in total length of erosions in rats in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, the indicators of atrophic gastritis, such as reduced mucosal thickness and reduction in the number of parietal cells, were improved by the administration of DA-9601 in a dose-related manner. DA-9601 also attenuated inflammatory cell infiltration and the proliferation of collagenous fiber in the gastric mucosa. The improvement in the reduction of the gastric mucus was observed in the rats receiving a high dose of DA-9601 (0.216%). The therapeutic effect of DA-9601 on experimental chronic erosive gastritis was superior to that of rebamipide (1.08% in rat chow). Biochemical analyses showed increased mucosal prostaglandin E2 and reduced glutathione levels by DA-9601 treatment. CONCLUSION: We suggest that DA-9601 is apromising agent for the treatment of chronic erosive and atrophic gastritis with an etiological factor of bile reflux. | 3 | Analysis on sports and recreation activity-related eye injuries presenting to the Emergency Department显示文摘AIM:To investigate the incidence and general characteristics of sports-related eye injuries in patients visiting the Emergency Department. METHODS: A cross-sectional,multi-center,observational study.Patients with an injured eye who visited the Emergency Department at one of nine hospitals in Korea were enrolled.All data were prospectively collected between March and September 2010 using a questionnaire.Eye injuries that occurred during risky sports were examined by gender and age.Additionally,the rate of open globe injuries that occurred with and without protective eyewear was examined for each activity.Continuous variables were compared using Student's t-test and categorical variables were compared using Chi-square test.RESULTS: A total of 446 patients had sports-related eye injuries.Teenagers(10-19 years old) and young adults(20-29 years old) had the most eye injuries.Eye injuries accounted for 0.2% of Emergency Department patients.Baseball was the most common cause of sports-related eye injuries,followed by soccer and hiking.Protective gear was worn by 9.4% of all patients.Patients that were 30-39 years of age had the highest rate of protective gear use,followed by patients that were 40-49 years of age.The proportion of sports-related eye injuries that were open-globe injuries was highest for soccer and hiking.CONCLUSION: Although injuries were most common in patients below the age of 10 years,these patients had the lowest rate of protective eyewear use.Injuries in adults over 40 years of age most commonly occurred during hiking,but the rate of protective eyewear use was low.Young athletes should be educated on and provided with protective eyewear and policies protective gear use should be established.For older adults,eye protection should be encouraged,especially during hiking. | Sungbae Moon Hyun Wook Ryoo Jae Yun Ahn Jung Bae Park Kang Suk Seo Sang Do Shin Kyoung Jun Song Kang Hyun Lee In Sool Yoo Jin Seong Cho Hyun Ho Ryu Tae Oh Jeong Seok Ran Yeom Young Taek Kim Sung Ok Hong | 2016 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2016,9,10: | 3 |
| 4 | Evaluation of SWAT sub-daily runoff estimation at small agricultural watershed in Korea显示文摘A study was undertaken for the prediction of runoff flow from 0.8 ha field-sized agricultural watershed in South Korea using Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) sub-daily. The SWAT model with sub-daily configuration predicted flow from the watershed within the range of acceptable accuracy. The SWAT sub-daily simulations were carried out for a total of 18 rainfall events, 9 each for calibration and validation. Overall trend and extent of matching simulated flow for the rainfall events in 2007-2008 with measured data during the calibration process were coefficient of determination (R2) value of 0.88 and Nash and Sutcliffe Efficiency (ENs) value of 0.88. For validation, R2 and ENs values were 0.9 and 0.84, respectively. Whereas R2 and ENs values for simulation results using daily rainfall data were 0.79 and -0.01, respectively, that were observed to be out of acceptable limits for the model simulation. The importance of higher time resolution (hourly) precipitation records for flow simulation were evaluated by comparing Ra and ENs with 15 min, 2 h, 6 h and 12 h precipitation data, which resulted in lower statistics with increases in time resolution of precipitation data. The SWAT sub-daily sensitivity analysis was performed with the consideration of hydraulic parameter and was found as in the rank order of CN2 (curve number), ESCO (soil evaporation compensation factor), GW_DELAY (ground water delay time), ALPHA BF (base flow alpha factor), GWQMN (a threshold-minimum depth of water in the shallow aquifer required for return flow to occur), REVAPMN (minimum depth of water in shallow aquifer for re-evaporation to occur), LAT TIME (lateral flow travel time) respectively. These sensit]-ve parameters were evaluated at 10% higher and lower values of the parameters, corresponding to 70.5% higher and 23.2% lower in simulated flow out from the SWAT model. | 5 | Whole-genome,transcriptome,and methylome analyses provide insights into the evolution of platycoside biosynthesis in Platycodon grandiflorus,a medicinal plant显示文摘Triterpenoid saponins(TSs)are common plant defense phytochemicals with potential pharmaceutical properties.Platycodon grandiflorus(Campanulaceae)has been traditionally used to treat bronchitis and asthma in East Asia.The oleanane-type TSs,platycosides,are a major component of the P.grandiflorus root extract.Recent studies show that platycosides exhibit anti-inflammatory,antiobesity,anticancer,antiviral,and antiallergy properties.However,the evolutionary history of platycoside biosynthesis genes remains unknown.In this study,we sequenced the genome of P.grandiflorus and investigated the genes involved in platycoside biosynthesis.The draft genome of P.grandiflorus is 680.1 Mb long and contains 40,017 protein-coding genes.Genomic analysis revealed that the CYP716 family genes play a major role in platycoside oxidation.The CYP716 gene family of P.grandiflorus was much larger than that of other Asterid species.Orthologous gene annotation also revealed the expansion ofβ-amyrin synthases(bASs)in P.grandiflorus,which was confirmed by tissue-specific gene expression.In these expanded gene families,we identified key genes showing preferential expression in roots and association with platycoside biosynthesis.In addition,wholegenome bisulfite sequencing showed that CYP716 and bAS genes are hypomethylated in P.grandiflorus,suggesting that epigenetic modification of these two gene families affects platycoside biosynthesis.Thus whole-genome,transcriptome,and methylome data of P.grandiflorus provide novel insights into the regulation of platycoside biosynthesis by CYP716 and bAS gene families. | Jungeun Kim Sang-Ho Kang Sin-Gi Park Tae-Jin Yang Yi Lee Ok Tae Kim Oksung Chung Jungho Lee Jae-Pil Choi Soo-Jin Kwon Keunpyo Lee Byoung-Ohg Ahn Dong Jin Lee Seung-il Yoo In-Gang Shin Yurry Um Dae Young Lee Geum-Soog Kim Chang Pyo Hong Jong Bhak Chang-Kug Kim | 2020 | Horticulture Research2020,7,1: | 2 |

| 7 | Microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of binary Mg-xBi(x=2,5,and 8 wt%)alloys显示文摘The microstructures and mechanical properties of Mg-x Bi(x=2,5,and 8 wt%)were investigated compared with pure Mg.The ascast Mg-Bi billets consist of dendriticα-Mg grain matrix,divorced eutectic Mg_(3)Bi_(2) phase and secondary precipitated Mg_(3)Bi_(2) phase.After homogenization,secondary precipitated Mg_(3)Bi_(2) particles were all dissolved into the matrix,while most of the divorced eutectic Mg_(3)Bi_(2) intermetallic compounds retained.All the as-extruded samples exhibit fully dynamic recrystallization(DRX)and the average grain size decreases and the amount of nano-scale Mg_(3)Bi_(2) precipitates increases with increasing Bi content.Additionally,Bi alloying has little influence on the texture of the as-extruded pure Mg,with all the samples showing typical basal texture.As the results of grain refinement and precipitation hardening,the strengths of the as-extruded samples increase under both tensile and compressive tests.Besides,the yield asymmetry significantly decreases with Bi content.Moreover,all the as-extruded samples represent similar ductility under compression,while the tensile elongation first increases and then decreases with more Bi added.The as-extruded Mg-5Bi alloy demonstrates good combination of strength and ductility.However,Mg-8Bi alloy displays lower tensile ductility than that of Mg-5Bi alloy due to the presence of abundant undissolved coarse Mg_(3)Bi_(2) particles,which act as cracking sources during tensile test.Furthermore,the strain hardening rate,strain hardening exponent n,and hardening capacity Hc are greatly reduced by Bi addition,mainly owing to the enhanced synergy effects of grain refinement and numerous Mg_(3)Bi_(2) precipitates. | Hui Yu Shaoda Fan Shuaiju Meng Jae Ok Choi Zhongjie Li Yohan Go Young Min Kim Weimin Zhao Bong Sun You Kwang Seon Shin | 2021 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2021,9,3: | 1 |
