Essential role of monocytes and macrophages in the progression of acute pancreatitis显示文摘Acute pancreatitis(AP) is an inflammatory condition of the pancreas caused by an imbalance in factors involved in maintaining cellular homeostasis.Earliest events in AP occur within acinar cells accompanied by other principal contributors to the inflammatory response i.e.the endothelial cells,immunocytes(granulocytes,monocytes/macrophages,lymphocytes) and neutrophils.Monocytes/macrophages are important inflammatory mediators, involved in the pathophysiology of AP,known to reside in the peritoneal cavity(in the vicinity of the pancreas) and in peripancreatic tissue.Recent studies suggested that impaired clearance of injured acini by macrophages is associated with an altered cytokine reaction which may constitute a basis for progression of AP.This review focuses on the role of monocytes/macrophages in progression of AP and discusses f indings on the inflammatory process involved.Pratima Shrivastava Madhav Bhatia 2010World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,32:33
Sperm membrane modulation by Sapindus mukorossi during sperm maturation显示文摘Aim:TO observe the alterations in the biochemical and biophysical changes in the sperm membrane during sperm maturation in male rats treated with the water extract of the fruit pericarp of S.mukorossi.Methods:Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were gavaged the aqueous extract of the fruit pericarp of S.mukorossi at a dose of 50mg/kg/dfor45days.On day46,the sperm parameters were observed in idfferent sections of the epididymis and the sperm superoxide dismutase and the lipid peroxidation was edtermined and compared with the controls. The testis and epidiymis were routinely prepared for histological examination under the light microscope. Results:No significant differences in the sperm number and morphology were observed between the control and reated groups. However,a significant inhibition(P<0.05-0.01)of sperm motility in the caput, corpus and cauda regions of the epididymis was seen in the treated group. No significant histopathological changes were found in the testis and epididymis.Theimportant finding was that in the treated animals, the spermatozoa showed an abnormal distribution of the superoxide dismutase activity, being minimum in the caput and maximum in the corpus, which was just opposite to that of the controls. Conclusion:The study provides a unique observation where the plant extract alters the sperm membrane physiology without change the testicular and epididymal morphology.Manish Nivsarkar Neeta Shrivastava Manoj Patel Harish Padh Cherian Bapu 2002Asian Journal of Andrology2002,4,3:14
Euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis:A missed diagnosis显示文摘Euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis(DKA)is an acute life-threatening metabolic emergency characterized by ketoacidosis and relatively lower blood glucose(less than 11 mmol/L).The absence of hyperglycemia is a conundrum for physicians in the emergency department and intensive care units;it may delay diagnosis and treatment causing worse outcomes.Euglycemic DKA is an uncommon diagnosis but can occur in patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus. With the addition of sodium/glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors in diabetes mellitus management, euglycemic DKA incidence has increased. The other causes of euglycemic DKA include pregnancy, fasting, bariatric surgery, gastroparesis, insulin pump failure, cocaine intoxication, chronic liver disease and glycogen storage disease. The pathophysiology of euglycemic DKA involves a relative or absolute carbohydrate deficit, milder degree of insulin deficiency or resistance and increased glucagon/insulin ratio.Euglycemic DKA is a diagnosis of exclusion and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of a sick patient with a history of diabetes mellitus despite lower blood glucose or absent urine ketones. The diagnostic workup includes arterial blood gas for metabolic acidosis, serum ketones and exclusion of other causes of high anion gap metabolic acidosis.Euglycemic DKA treatment is on the same principles as for DKA with correction of dehydration, electrolytes deficit and insulin replacement. The dextrosecontaining fluids should accompany intravenous insulin to correct metabolic acidosis, ketonemia and to avoid hypoglycemia.Prashant Nasa Sandeep Chaudhary Pavan Kumar Shrivastava Aanchal Singh 2021World Journal of Diabetes2021,12,5:11
Effect of rock joint roughness on its cyclic shear behavior显示文摘Rock joints are often subjected to dynamic loads induced by earthquake and blasting during mining and rock cutting. Hence, cyclic shear load can be induced along the joints and it is important to evaluate the shear behavior of rock joint under this condition. In the present study, synthetic rock joints were prepared with plaster of Paris(Po P). Regular joints were simulated by keeping regular asperity with asperity angles of 15°-15° and 30°-30°, and irregular rock joints which are closer to natural joints were replicated by keeping the asperity angles of 15°-30° and 15°-45°. The sample size and amplitude of roughness were kept the same for both regular and irregular joints which were 298 mm×298 mm×125 mm and 5 mm, respectively. Shear test was performed on these joints using a large-scale direct shear testing machine by keeping the frequency and amplitude of shear load under constant cyclic condition with different normal stress values. As expected, the shear strength of rock joints increased with the increases in the asperity angle and normal load during the first cycle of shearing or static load. With the increase of the number of shear cycles, the shear strength decreased for all the asperity angles but the rate of reduction was more in case of high asperity angles. Test results indicated that shear strength of irregular joints was higher than that of regular joints at different cycles of shearing at low normal stress. Shearing and degradation of joint asperities on regular joints were the same between loading and unloading, but different for irregular joints. Shear strength and joint degradation were more significant on the slope of asperity with higher angles on the irregular joint until two angles of asperities became equal during the cycle of shearing and it started behaving like regular joints for subsequent cycles.S.M.Mahdi Niktabar K.Seshagiri Rao Amit Kumar Shrivastava 2017Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2017,9,6:10

Hepatitis C virus infection, microRNA and liver disease progression显示文摘Hepatitis C virus(HCV) is a global health problem with an estimated 170-200 million peoples(approximately3% of world population) are chronically infected worldwide and new infections are predicted to be on rise in coming years. HCV infection remains categorized as a major risk factor for chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma worldwide. There has been considerable improvement in our understanding of virus life cycle since, the discovery of HCV two-decades ago.MicroRNAs(miRNAs) are important players in establishment of HCV infection and their propagation in infected hepatocytes. They target crucial host cellular factors needed for productive HCV replication and augmented cell growth.Very first anti-miRNA oligonucleotides, miravirsen has been tested in clinical trial and shown promising results as therapeutic agent in treatment against chronic HCV infection.Deregulated expression of miRNAs has been linked to the pathogenesis associated with HCV infection by controlling signaling pathways such as,proliferation, apoptosis and migration. Circulating miRNAs emerging as growing field in identification of biomarkers in disease progression and their potential as a means of communication between cells inside the liver is an exciting area of research in future. This review focuses on recent studies enforcing the contribution of miRNAs in HCV life cycle and coordinated regulation in HCV mediated liver disease progression.Shubham Shrivastava Anupam Mukherjee Ratna B Ray 2013World Journal of Hepatology2013,5,9:6
Label-free colorimetric estimation of proteins using nanoparticles of silver显示文摘Metallic nanoparticles have received considerable attention in bioassays and diagnostics due to their unique surface plasmon resonance(SPR) properties.Gold nanoparticles have been employed for the development of SPR-based colorimetric bioassays. In the present report we have described a sensitive colorimetric approach for estimation of proteins, within a detection limit of 10?80 μg/m L,using unmodified silver nanoparticles.Besides the common advantages of colorimetric assay such as simplicity, high sensitivity, and low cost, our method has a label-free design and provides an important and attractive alternative to classical sensing probes and systems. The present work will contribute to the development of nanotechnology-based diagnostic tools.Siddhartha Shrivastava Debabrata Dash 2010Nano-Micro Letters2010,2,3:5
A comprehensive review on biomarkers associated with painful temporomandibular disorders显示文摘Pain of the orofacial region is the primary complaint for which patients seek treatment.Of all the orofacial pain conditions, one condition that possess a significant global health problem is temporomandibular disorder(TMD).Patients with TMD typically frequently complaints of pain as a symptom.TMD can occur due to complex interplay between peripheral and central sensitization, endogenous modulatory pathways, and cortical processing. For diagnosis of TMD pain a descriptive history, clinical assessment, and imaging is needed. However, due to the complex nature of pain an additional step is needed to render a definitive TMD diagnosis. In this review we explicate the role of different biomarkers involved in painful TMD.In painful TMD conditions, the role of biomarkers is still elusive. We believe that the identification of biomarkers associated with painful TMD may stimulate researchers and clinician to understand the mechanism underlying the pathogenesis of TMD and help them in developing newer methods for the diagnosis and management of TMD.Therefore,to understand the potential relationship of biomarkers, and painful TMD we categorize the biomarkers as molecular biomarkers, neuroimaging biomarkers and sensory biomarkers. In addition,we will briefly discuss pain genetics and the role of potential microRNA(miRNA)involved in TMD pain.Mayank Shrivastava Ricardo Battaglino Liang Ye 2021International Journal of Oral Science2021,13,3:4
Studies on long lasting optical properties of Eu^(2+) and Dy^(3+) doped di-barium magnesium silicate phosphors显示文摘Di-barium magnesium silicate phosphors doped with europium and dysprosium were prepared under a weak reducing atmosphere.X-ray diffraction pattern of the sample was also done that confirmed the proper preparation of the phosphor.Scanning electron microscope(SEM) images confirmed that the sample has regular surface and uniform grain size distribution.Comparative studies of phosphorescence decay of Ba_2MgSi_2O_7:Eu^(2+),Dy^(3+) phosphors with different concentration of Dy^(3+) were done. The phosphor with 0.5/1.5 mol%of Eu/Dy,exhibited optimum green color afterglow properties. This emission is expected to arise due to transition of Eu^(2+) ions from any of the sublevels of 4f^65d^1configuration to ~8S_(7/2) level of the 4f7 configuration. For a suitable trap depth, the trap concentration is expected to be proportional to the concentration of Dy^(3+).These traps are responsible for holding the charge career for a reasonable time, subsequently for increasing the time of afterglow.Hence, optimum Dy3* concentration produces the longer afterglow duration with higher intensity of luminescence signals.Trap depth were also calculated using thermoluminescence glow curve which was indicative of formation of traps suitable for long afterglow.Ravi Shrivastava Jagjeet Kaur 2015Chinese Chemical Letters2015,26,9:4

Antioxidant and hepatoprotective effects of Boswellia ovalifoliolata bark extracts显示文摘Paracetamol(PCM) hepatotoxicity is related to reactive oxygen species(ROS) formation and excessive oxidative stress; natural antioxidant compounds have been tested as an alternative therapy. This study evaluated the hepatoprotective activity of an alcoholic extract of Boswellia ovalifoliolata(BO) bark against PCM-induced hepatotoxicity. BO extract also demonstrated antioxidant activity in vitro, as well as scavenger activity against 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl. Administration of PCM caused a significant increase in the release of transaminases, alkaline phosphatase, and lactate dehydrogenase in serum. Significant enhancement in hepatic lipid peroxidation and marked depletion in reduced glutathione were observed after parac intoxication with severe alterations in liver histology. BO treatment was able to mitigate hepatic damage induced by acute intoxication of PCM and showed a pronounced protective effect against lipid peroxidation, deviated serum enzymatic variables, and maintained glutathione status toward control. The results clearly demonstrate the hepatoprotective effect of BO against the toxicity induced by PCM.Bandari Uma Mahesh Shweta Shrivastava Rajeswara Rao Pragada V.G.M.Naidu Ramakrishna Sistla 2014Chinese Journal of Natural Medicines2014,12,9:3

Hydrochemistry and sediment characteristics of polar periglacial lacustrine environments on Fisher Island and Broknes Peninsula,East Antarctica显示文摘Fisher Island and Broknes Peninsula in the Larsemann Hills constitute part of a polar lowland periglacial environment between marine and glacial ecosystems. The landscape is characterized by gently rolling hills and broad valleys interspersed with lakes formed in glacially scoured basins. We analyzed the physicochemical parameters and the ionic constituents of water samples from 10 lakes in each of these two locations. Our results showed considerable differences between the two regions and demonstrated the influence of lithology and processes including weathering, evaporation, and atmospheric precipitation. All major cations and anions in the lake waters showed positive correlations indicating balanced ionic concentrations.Unconsolidated sediments were sparsely distributed and scattered over glacial deposits, valley fills, and occasional moraine ridges. The type and rate of sedimentation was mainly controlled by surface run-off and aeolian influx. The sediment samples from lake beds and the catchment area on Fisher Island were immature and poorly to very poorly sorted, consisting of gravelly sand with negligible silt and finer fractions.Sediments had a polymodal grain size distribution with the two major populations lying between-2 and-1 phi and between 0 and 1.5 phi.The sediments were lithic arenite to arkosic in composition and the microtextures imprinted over quartz grains were dominated by mechanical textures resulting from several stages of glacial crushing and grinding. The presence of deep dissolution cavities, cryptocrystalline precipitation, and euhedral crystal growth signified the effect of chemical activity after the deposition of grains in the lacustrine environment.Rajesh Asthana Prakash Kumar Shrivastava Hari Bahadur Srivastava Mirza Javed Beg Pradeep Kumar 2013Advances in Polar Science2013,24,4:2

Novel molecular panel for evaluating systemic inflammation and survival in therapy naïve glioma patients显示文摘BACKGROUND Inflammation is crucial to tumor progression.A traumatic event at a specific site in the brain activates the signaling molecules, which triggers inflammation as the initial response within the tumor and its surroundings. The educated immune cells and secreted proteins then initiate the inflammatory cascade leading to persistent chronic inflammation. Therefore, estimation of the circulating inflammatory indicators kynurenine(KYN),interleukin-6(IL-6),tissue-inhibitor of matrix-metalloproteinase-1 and human telomerase reverse transcriptase(hTERT)along with neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio(NLR)has prognostic value.AIM To assess the utility of chosen inflammatory marker panel in estimating systemic inflammation.METHODS The chosen markers were quantitatively evaluated in 90 naive, molecularly subtyped plasma samples of glioma.A correlation between the markers and confounders was assessed to establish their prognostication power.Follow-up on the levels of the indicators was done 3-mo post-surgery.To establish the validity of circulating KYN,it was also screened qualitatively by dot-immune-assay and by immunofluorescence-immunohistochemistry in tumor tissues.RESULTS Median values of circulating KYN,IL-6,hTERT,tissue-inhibitor of matrixmetalloproteinase-1 and NLR in isocitrate-dehydrogenase-mutant/wildtype and within the astrocytic sub-groups were estimated, which differed from controls, reaching statistical significance(P<0.0001).All markers negatively correlated with mortality(P<0.0001).Applying combination-statistics,the panel of KYN,IL-6,hTERT and NLR achieved higher sensitivity and specificity(>90%)than standalone markers,to define survival. The inflammatory panel could discriminate between WHO grades, and isocitrate-dehydrogenase-mutant/wildtype and define differential survival between astrocytic isocitrate-dehydrogenase-mutant/wildtype.Therefore,its assessment for precise disease prognosis is indicated.Association of KYN with NLR,IL-6 and hTERT was significant.Cox-regression described KYN,IL-6,NLR,and hTERT as good prognostic markers, independent of confounders.Multivariate linear-regression analysis confirmed the association of KYN and hTERT with inflammation marker IL-6.There was a concomitant significant decrease in their levels in a 3-mo follow-up.CONCLUSION The first evidence-based study of circulating-KYN in molecularly defined gliomas, wherein the tissue expression was found to be concomitant with plasma levels.A non-invasive model for assessing indicators of chronic systemic inflammation is proposed.Puneet Gandhi Richa Shrivastava Nitin Garg Sandeep K Sorte 2021World Journal of Clinical Oncology2021,12,10:2
Optimisation of laser welding parameters for welding of P92 material using Taguchi based grey relational analysis显示文摘Creep strength enhanced ferritic(CSEF) steels are used in advanced power plant systems for high temperature applications. P92(Cr–W–Mo–V)steel, classified under CSEF steels, is a candidate material for piping, tubing, etc., in ultra-super critical and advanced ultra-super critical boiler applications. In the present work, laser welding process has been optimised for P92 material by using Taguchi based grey relational analysis(GRA).Bead on plate(BOP) trials were carried out using a 3.5 k W diffusion cooled slab CO_2 laser by varying laser power, welding speed and focal position. The optimum parameters have been derived by considering the responses such as depth of penetration, weld width and heat affected zone(HAZ) width. Analysis of variance(ANOVA) has been used to analyse the effect of different parameters on the responses. Based on ANOVA, laser power of 3 k W, welding speed of 1 m/min and focal plane at-4 mm have evolved as optimised set of parameters. The responses of the optimised parameters obtained using the GRA have been verified experimentally and found to closely correlate with the predicted value.? 2016 China Ordnance Society. 20Diagnosis of neurocysticercosis among patients with seizures in northern coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh, India显示文摘Objective: To report cases of neurocysticercosis(NCC) from three neighboring districts of Andhra Pradesh state in India where NCC burden was never explored before. Methods: A total of 160 patients presenting with recent onset seizures were recruited from neurology, general medicine, and pediatric outpatient clinics of a local major tertiary care teaching hospital serving above districts during the period 2011–2014. Brain imaging was performed in all the above cases. A commercial immunoglobulin G-ELISA kit(sensitivity = 85%; specificity = 94%) was employed for the serological diagnosis of NCC.Results: The recruited patients presented with generalized, simple partial, and complex partial seizures(55%, 31.25% and 13.75% respectively). NCC was diagnosed in 44 of160(27.5%) seizure cases based on imaging characteristics, and a positive serum antibody ELISA. No association was detected between seropositivity with the number and location of the lesion(s) in the brain. Conclusions: The possible potentiality of NCC could be identified as an underlying cause of the recent onset of seizures in this region as explored in the present study. It is recommended that NCC should be suspected as one of the major differential in every recent onset seizure with or without a radio imaging supportive diagnosis, especially in areas endemic for taeniasis/cysticercosis.Bala Chandra Sekhar Pappala Jyothi Padmaja Indugula Sateesh Kumar Talabhatula Ramalakshmi Suryakarani Kolli Arpit Kumar Shrivastava Priyadarshi Soumyaranjan Sahu 2016Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2016,6,11:2
