1Wastewater reclamation and reuse in China:Opportunities and challenges显示文摘The growing water stress both in terms of water scarcity and quality deterioration promotes the development of reclaimed water as a new water resource use. This paper reviewed wastewater reuse practices in China, and the opportunities and challenges of expanding reclaimed water use were analyzed. Rapid urbanization with the increasing of water demand and wastewater discharge provides an opportunity for wastewater reuse. The vast amount of wastewater discharge and low reclaimed water production mean that wastewater reuse still has a great potential in China. Many environmental and economic benefits and successful reclamation technologies also provide opportunities for wastewater reuse. In addition, the overall strategy in China is also encouraging for wastewater reuse. In the beginning stage of wastewater reclamation and reuse, there are many significant challenges to expand wastewater reuse in China including slow pace in adopting urban wastewater reuse programs, the establishment of integrated water resources management framework and guidelines for wastewater reuse programs, incoherent water quality requirements, the limited commercial development of reclaimed water and the strengthening of public awareness and cooperation among stakeholders.Sidan Lyu Weiping Chen Weiling Zhang Yupeng Fan Wentao Jiao 2016Journal of Environmental Sciences2016,28,1:15
2Effects of environmental factors on sulfamethoxazole photodegradation under simulated sunlight irradiation: Kinetics and mechanism显示文摘To advance the knowledge of the environmental fate of sulfamethoxazole(SMX),we systematically investigated the effects of natural water constituents and synthetic substances(i.e.,TiO2 nanoparticles(nTiO2) and Ti-doped β-Bi2O3(NTB)) on the photodegradation kinetics of SMX under xenon lamp irradiation.The photolysis of SMX in aqueous solution followed first-order kinetics.Our results showed that higher concentrations of SMX,fulvic acid,suspended sediments,NTB and higher pH value decreased the photodegradation rates of SMX,whereas H2O2 improved the SMX photodegradation.TiO2 nanoparticles had a dual effect on photodegradation due to their photocatalytic activity and photoabsorption of photons.No intermediates more toxic toward Vibrio fischeri than SMX were produced after direct photolysis and photocatalytic degradation for 3 hr.The photolysis of SMX involved three pathways:hydroxylation,cleavage of the sulfonamide bond,and fragmentation of the isoxazole ring.This study lays the groundwork for a better understanding of the environmental fate of SMX.Junfeng Niu Lilan Zhang Yang Li Jinbo Zhao Sidan Lv Keqing Xiao 2013Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,6:14

4Nonlinear short-term heart rate variability prediction of spontaneous ventricular tachyarrhythmia显示文摘As malign ventricular tachyarrhythmias triggering sudden cardiac death (SCD), both ventricular tachycardia (VT) and ventricular fibrillation (VF) are major causes of mortality. The most efficient ther- apy for SCD prevention is implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD). The ICD can accurately and ef- fectively identify the forthcoming of fatal ventricular tachyarrhythmias and deliver a shock in order to restore patients’ normal sinus rhythm. In this study, two nonlinear complexity measures based on en- tropy: approximate entropy (ApEn) and sample entropy (SampEn) as well as two time linear indices: the mean RR interval (the average of time intervals between consecutive R-waves) and the standard devia- tion of RR intervals were used for short-term forecasting of VT-VF occurrence. The last small sections of interbeat intervals preceding 135 VT-VF episodes from 78 patients stored by the ICD were analyzed and compared with individually acquired control time series (CON series) from the same patients, which are normally intrinsic sinus rhythms. The results demonstrate that in addition to an obvious in- crease in heart rates of the patients, the values of two entropy measures are significantly smaller for VT-VF episodes than those for CON series. Conclusions can be drawn that when a ventricular tach- yarrhythmia approaches, the sympathetic tone of the patients is increased, and the complexity of their RR intervals immediately before the onset of VT-VF events is obviously lower than that of RR intervals recorded during sinus rhythms. For a better separation, the optimal range of threshold r is determined for two algorithms. 6Haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for pediatric patients with chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection:a retrospective analysis of a single center显示文摘Background This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and clinical effect of haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(haplo-HSCT)for the treatment of pediatric patients with chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection(CAEBV).Methods Children with CAEBV who did not have matched donors and underwent haplo-HSCT in Beijing Children's Hospital,Capital Medical University,from October 2016 to June 2020 were analyzed retrospectively.Data relating to the clinical manifestations,engraftment,and prognosis of the children were extracted from medical records.Results Twenty-five patients,including 16 males and 9 females,with an onset age of 5.0±2.6 years and a transplantation age of 6.9±2.9 years,were enrolled irnhis study.The mean time from diagnosis to transplantation was 3.8(2.0-40.2)months.The mean observation time was 19.0±12.0 months.Three patients received the reduced intensity conditioning regimen,and the remaining patients all received the modified myeloablative conditioning regimen.By the end of the follow-up,23 patients were characterized by disease-free survival(DFS),22 were characterized by event-free survival(EFS).and two died.One of the patients died of thrombotic microangiopathy(TMA),and another died of graft versus host disease(GVHD);this patient discontinued the treatment for economic reasons.The 3-year overall survival(OS)rate was estimated to be 92.0%±5.4%,and the 3-year EFS rate was estimated to be 87.4%±6.8%.All active patients survived after HSCT event-free.Acute GVHD degrees 1-3 were observed in ten patients(40.0%),and degree IV was observed in six(24.0%),who were all cured except for one patient.Chronic GVHD was observed in nine(36.0%),and most of these cases were mild.The incidence of TMA and veno-occlusive disease(VOD)was 28.0%and 4.0%.Conclusions Haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is safe and effective in the treatment of pediatric CAEBV and can be used as an alternative therapy without matched donors or emergency transplantation.Patients with active disease before HSCT also benefited from haplo-HSCT.Haplo-HSCT requires careful monitoring for complications,such as GVHD and TMA.Early detection of TMA and timely treatment can reduce mortality and can improve the survival rate.Yan-Hui Luo Jun Yang Ang Wei© Guang-Hua Zhu Bin Wang Rui Zhang Chen-Guang Jia Yan Yan Kai Wang Sidan Li Xuan Zhou Mao-Quan Qin Tian-You Wang 2021World Journal of Pediatrics2021,17,6:1

13Framing climate strategy of the oil industry of China:A tailored approach to ecological modernization显示文摘China has announced its ambitious targets of attaining a carbon peak before 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.Although China is a developing country,its oil sector plays a key role in carbon emissions and thus has a responsibility toward climate change.It is very important to understand the role of the oil industry of China in climate governance.This raises the following question:how have oil companies in China framed and tailored their climate strategies?By employing the concept of ecological modernization as a theoretical framework,this study observes the driving forces of climate policies,low-carbon energy,advanced technologies,and market mechanisms by collecting and analyzing reports published by three oil companies.The main findings are that state-owned oil companies in China have adopted the ideas and institutions of national climate strategies,low-carbon energy systems,and emerging financial and market tools.The analysis of the reports reveals that the main motives for the climate strategies of the companies are China’s administrative system,international climate cooperation,the transformation of the energy mix,and emerging market mechanisms.Sidan Wang Süleyman Orhun Altiparmak 2022Chinese Journal of Population,Resources and Environment2022,20,4:0
14The protection of CoronaVac against the infection of wild-type SARS-CoV-2(WH-09)or Omicron variant in nude-hACE2 mice显示文摘Background:Immunocompromised individuals have an increased risk of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection and severe outcomes,but we pay less attention to these people.Athymic nude mice are a murine strain with a spontaneous deficiency of the Foxn1 gene,which can result in thymic degeneration or its absence,leading to immunosuppression and a decrease in the number of T cells,and are widely used in preclinical evaluations of disease in immunocompromised populations.Methods:We investigated the protection of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)inactivated vaccine(CoronaVac)against the infection of wild-type SARS-CoV-2(WH-09)or Omicron variant utilizing a hybrid-type nude-hACE2 mouse model.Results:Compared with nude-hACE2/W mice,the viral load in the brain and lung tissue of nude-hACE2 mice(nude-hACE2/WV)infected with WH-09 after vaccination significantly decreased,and the histopathological changes were also reduced.The viral load in the brain and lung tissue of nude-hACE2 mice(nude-hACE2/OV)infected with the Omicron variant after vaccination was lower than that in nude-hACE2/O,but histopathological symptoms did not improve significantly.Conclusion:CoronaVac provides some protection against infection of both WH-09 and the Omicron variant in the nude-hACE2 mice.Our findings aimed to provide a reference for vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 in immunocompromised populations.Kaili Lin Meixuan Liu Lu Sun Hanjun Fu Hongwei Qiao Shunyi Wang Sidan Pan Hong Gao 2023Animal Models and Experimental Medicine2023,6,4:0

18Intracontinental lithospheric delamination:Constraints from imaging the mantle transition zone beneath the southwestern part of the Sichuan Basin显示文摘The southwestern part of the Sichuan Basin(SW-SCB)is adjacent to the eastern Himalayan syntaxis.Affected by the Indo-Eurasian collision and subsequent intrusion of the Indian plate into the Eurasian plate during the Cenozoic,this region is ideal for the study of the tectonic evolution of the intracontinental lithosphere and the dynamic processes of deep and shallow structures.In this study,we applied the receiver function technique to the data obtained from a recently deployed high-density broadband seismic array across the Sichuan Basin and Sichuan-Yunnan block(SCB-SYB).We conducted a multi-frequency and multi-model correction analysis to image the structure of the mantle transition zone beneath this region.The results showed the660-km discontinuity gradually increasing in depth by 10-30 km beneath the western side of the Anninghe-Xiaojiang Fault,suggesting the presence of thermal anomalies caused by the subducted Indian plate from west to east.At the junction of the SCBSYB,the 410-km discontinuity exhibited a slight uplift of 5-10 km,while the 660-km discontinuity showed a significant depression of~30 km over a lateral range of~150 km.Based on previous surface GPS observation and dynamic numerical simulation studies,we suggest that the sharp lateral small-scale topography of this 660-km discontinuity beneath the SW-SCB may have resulted from dripping delamination of the lithosphere within the strain localization area.Furthermore,the aggregation of delaminated lithospheric material at the base of the 660-km discontinuity determines the regional topography of mantle transition zone discontinuities.In this study,we provided seismological evidence for the challenging detection of small-scale intracontinental lithosphere dripping delamination.Moreover,it provides a new view for studying deep and shallow dynamic processes in intracontinental regions with stress concentration resulting from plate/continental subduction and collision.Fan YANG Juan LI Sidan CHEN Yun CHEN Long LI Yinshuang AI 2023Science China Earth Sciences2023,66,10:0

20An optical slot-antenna-coupled cavity (SAC) framework towards tunable free-space graphene photonic surfaces显示文摘The optical conductivity of single layer graphene (SLG) can be significantly and reversibly modified when the Fermi level is tuned by electrical gating. However, so far this interesting property has rarely been applied to free-space two-dimensional (2D) photonic devices because the surface-incident absolute absorption of SLG is limited to 1%–2%. No significant change in either reflectance or transmittance would be observed even if SLG is made transparent upon gating. To achieve significantly enhanced surface-incident optical absorption in SLG in a device structure that also allows gating, here we embed SLG in an optical slot-antenna-coupled cavity (SAC) framework, simultaneously enhancing SLG absorption by up to 20 times and potentially enabling electrical gating of SLG as a step towards tunable 2D photonic surfaces. This framework synergistically integrates near-field enhancement induced by ultrahigh refractive index semimetal slot-antenna with broadband resonances in visible and infrared regimes, ~ 3 times more effective than a vertical cavity structure alone. An example of this framework consists of self-assembled, close-packed Sn nanodots separated by ~ 10 nm nanogaps on a SLG/SiO2/Al stack, which dramatically increases SLG optical absorption to 10%-25% at λ = 600–1,900 nm. The enhanced SLG absorption spectrum can also be controlled by the insulator thickness. For example, SLG embedded in this framework with a 150 nm-thick SiO2 insulating layer displays a distinctive red color in contrast to its surrounding regions without SLG on the same sample under white light illumination. This opens a potential path towards gate-tunable spectral reflectors.
